Given the fact that social media apps these days are full of AI-generated videos, AI-native apps seem keen to cash in on the trend. The latest to jump on that bandwagon is Character.AI, which said on Monday that it is adding a social feed to its mobile apps that allow users to create AI characters and chat with them. The social feed, which first came to the company's web platform in June, lets users share images, videos as well as their chatbots with other users. Users can also share snippets of their chats with characters, post AI-generated images based on their chats with a character, or even have their characters debate topics on a live stream. The feed also lets you use the company's generative video model, AvtarFX, to create video clips with text prompts and images, and share them on the feed. "With our new Feed, the boundary between creator and consumer is disappearing. You can come to Feed for a lean-back experience and watch content from our amazing creators - but you can also take the story forward or create a new epic adventure," said Karandeep Singh, Character.AI's CEO, in a statement. Character.AI isn't the first company of its kind to dip its toes in the social media ocean: Video generation app Pika in July launched an invite-only app that lets users create and post videos using AI tools.

So, now if you want to know how an AI version of Socrates would respond to an anime character, you can, and then post the results for other users to see and interact with. This new social feed lets users lean-forward into storytelling and turn AI into entertainment rather than just productivity. The entertainment aspect gives users a playground where AI personalities can show off, spar or collaborate. One post might be a sassy argument between a Shakespeare bot and an alien CEO. Another might showcase a dating sim character giving life advice. The variety is endless and from what I've seen, most of it is weird, chaotic and surprisingly creative. Character.AI has already become one of the more popular "AI companion" platforms, with users spending over 2 billion minutes per month chatting with virtual characters ranging from historical figures to anime-inspired personalities. The new feed gives those interactions a place to be shared and iterated on by others. This taps into the growing trend of co-creation with AI, turning passive users into remixers. And it positions Character.AI as a new kind of social platform built around synthetic personalities instead of real ones. The move to a more social, public experience raises fresh concerns. The company has faced scrutiny in the past over blurred lines between users and characters, particularly among vulnerable groups like teens. A feed that encourages sharing chat snippets (some of which may contain emotionally intense or suggestive content) puts additional pressure on the platform's Trust & Safety infrastructure. The good news is that users can flag posts and customize their own feed by muting or hiding content, but the company hasn't detailed how aggressively moderation will be enforced or how generative content will be filtered in real time. The launch of the feed marks a key moment for Character.AI, and frankly, for AI-powered platforms in general. As tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude become more utility-driven, Character.AI is carving out a space where AI is less assistant, more entertainer. The shift toward AI-native social media also hints at where tech companies may be headed: platforms where users engage not with other people, but with dynamic, evolving semi-intelligent digital bots.

In a blog post, the company announced the launch of its AI-native social feed on Android and iOS. It is a scrollable content platform where users can post their Characters, Scenes, Streams, and creator-driven videos in a single place. One distinct feature of Character.AI's social feed is that, instead of passively consuming content, users viewing the feed can also interact with the posts and create new content. "You can come to Feed for a lean-back experience and watch content from our amazing creators - but you can also take the story forward or create a new epic adventure. Doomscrolling is dead. We're ushering in the future of AI-powered entertainment," said Karandeep Anand, CEO of Character.AI. The social feed allows users to post the following types of short-form content. First is Chat Snippets, which lets users post a slice of their conversation with an AI chatbot and showcase its personality. Users can also post Character Cards, which are previews of characters, and they allow viewers to directly initiate a chat. The recently launched Streams, where users can give AI personas a topic and let them debate, perform roast battles, and make vlogs, can also be posted on the social stream. Apart from these, the new video generation feature for paid subscribers, Avatar FX, which can generate short videos of any AI character on the platform, can also be used to post to the social feed. AI-generated images based on chats with characters can also be posted. Highlighting the need to maintain a safe environment for all users, the AI firm said that the community feed will be moderated by AI-powered text and video classifiers, as well as the company's Trust & Safety team. Character.AI said the social feed will also be open for community-based moderation, where users can hide and flag inappropriate content.
