BharatGPT-maker CoRover ties up with ChangeInkk to launch AI-driven help desk for learning disabilities
In India, a country where stigma alongside a lack of resources and capacity often hold back the disabled community from living full and empowered lives, an artificial intelligence tool may now play a role in helping persons with learning disabilities and people in their lives with greater access to information. BharatGPT-maker CoRover and non-profit organisation ChangeInkk on Tuesday announced a collaboration to launch AskPurpleFlame, a multilingual AI-driven help desk for learning disabilities. This is a first-of-its-kind platform in India, the companies said in a statement. Users will be able to interact with the bot using text and voice, in English and Hindi, to begin with. "Additional Indian languages will be rolled out soon, ensuring that diverse communities across the country can benefit," they said. "This launch marks the beginning of a collaboration between CoRover and Changeinkk to develop more AI-driven tools that empower people with disabilities to reach their full potential." The AI application, to roll out soon, was built based on the learnings of sensitising, building capacities and understanding the needs of over 100,000 government school teachers, thousands of employers, higher education institutions, parents and policy makers at the state and central levels, the statement said. It can deliver real-time, accurate information that can be accessed easily from any device, to provide support at every stage, helping bridge capacity gaps by providing essential information and empowering stakeholders -- from students and parents to teachers to employers, civil society to policymakers. Learning disabilities like dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia affect an estimated 200 million people in India, including 35 million students, with social implications such as poor learning outcomes, high dropout rates, and increased mental health issues, including a 46% higher risk of suicide attempts, the statement noted. "AskPurpleFlame is not just a chatbot -- it's a beacon of hope for millions of families who have struggled with stigma, lack of awareness, and inadequate resources for addressing learning disabilities," said Noopur, cofounder, ChangeInkk. "Our mission is to make information and support systems universally accessible and ensure that individuals with learning disabilities have the tools they need to thrive." Besides helping to identify and assist students with learning disabilities, the bot can help parents advocate for their children's needs and provide policymakers with guidance for developing inclusive education strategies. "Our mission is to deliver practical solutions at both individual and systemic levels using a domain-specific LLM model, all aimed at fostering a more inclusive society while generating value for diverse industries to meet their unique needs," said Ankush Sabharwal, CEO, CoRover.AI. AskPurpleFlame is just the beginning, he added. On the economic case for investing in such tools, the statement noted that the global purchasing power of people with disabilities and their families is estimated at $13 trillion, with over 2.5 billion individuals requiring assistive technologies.
