Elon Musk's Grok reportedly had an update delayed thanks to its lacklustre Baldur's Gate 3 knowledge
Grok, the generative AI chatbot on X (formerly Twitter), reportedly had an update delay because it wasn't a good enough expert on Baldur's Gate 3. This came from its owner Elon Musk, who apparently was dissatisfied with his non-consentual nude creating, formerly Hitler-praising, tool. This report comes from Business Insider, which published a report into xAI following Musk's shift from head of the US Government's Department of Government Efficiency back to his prior role as CEO at various tech-based companies. Business Insider wrote: "a model release was delayed for several days because Musk was dissatisfied with how the chatbot answered detailed questions about the video game 'Baldur's Gate,' according to people familiar with the matter." Sources also told Business Insider that Musk had requested Grok learning about League of Legends - one of his favourite games - a priority. To achieve this, Musk brought together a group of staff into a "war room", as Business Insider claims he does whenever there's a problem he deems urgent. One of these war room groups was dedicated to getting the impressionable AI chatbot to play perhaps the most toxic game of all time. What is the purpose of having an generative AI chatbot play a game for you, who knows? Years ago, before the generative AI boom, one program was able to beat Dota 2 players after training on 3,500 hours of gameplay. So it's not like this idea is particularly novel either. If you're in the UK, your parliament recently discussed the dissemination of sexually explicit and non-consensual images due to Grok's recent behavior. This may lead to expansions of the Online Safety Act, so that it covers the output of AI chat bots.

A Grok update was apparently delayed because Elon Musk wanted it to be better at answering questions about Baldur's Gate
As well as praising Hitler and banging on about white genocide and creating naked images of actual women and children, apparently Grok can be a resource for answering questions about videogames. According to an investigation by Business Insider into what's been going on at xAI since Elon Musk stopped being the de facto leader of the Department of Government Efficiency and started micromanaging the chatbot, that's been one of Musk's top priorities. Business Insider's sources say that "a model release was delayed for several days because Musk was dissatisfied with how the chatbot answered detailed questions about the video game 'Baldur's Gate,' according to people familiar with the matter." I assume they mean Baldur's Gate 3, unless Musk really did prioritize teaching Grok where to find the Ring of the Princes +1 on the Coast Way. Employees make xAI sound like it's become a hectic place to work, saying, "Because the company is so small, everything is a fire drill". When a problem occurs, it's solved by relocating teams of workers to a "war room" for months at a time until it's solved. Three of Business Insider's sources corroborated that, late last year, there were at least five war rooms running at the same time. "One, they said, was dedicated to teaching Grok how to play one of Musk's favorite video games, 'League of Legends.'" Google's Gemini AI was so bad at playing Pokémon it took more than 813 hours to finish Pokémon Blue, so it can't be easy to teach them how to play videogames. I guess the question is, why bother? Musk's already paying someone to play Path of Exile 2 and Diablo 4 for him, does he really need to work a bunch more people to the bone just so he doesn't have to play League of Legends either?

Musk Delayed Grok Update Over Failing Baldur's Gate 3 Test
Elon Musk, currently on track to become the world's first trillionaire, is apparently obsessed with teaching Grok about video games. The xAI-powered chatbot was reportedly so bad at answering questions about Baldur's Gate 3 last year that Musk actually delayed a major update to its model so the problem could be rectified. That bizarre anecdote comes from a recent deep-dive investigation into xAI by Business Insider. Musk's penchant for chaos and micromanagement was apparently so bad that when confronted with Grok's inability to correctly parse details about Larian Studios' hit 2023 RPG based on Dungeons & Dragons, he pulled top engineers off other projects to get the chatbot sorted. "In one instance last year, a model release was delayed for several days because Musk was dissatisfied with how the chatbot answered detailed questions about the video game 'Baldur's Gate,' according to people familiar with the matter. High-level engineers were pulled from other projects to improve the responses before launch, they said," Business Insider writes. Lest you think this episode was a one off, Musk was also apparently obsessed with teaching Grok how to play League of Legends. Some former xAI employees reportedly compare how the company is run to a never-ending fire drill. There are multiple "war rooms" running at the Palo Alto headquarters to tackle urgent issues, including getting Grok to Challenger rank in Riot Games' popular MOBA. "At the end of 2025, at least five war rooms were running simultaneously, according to three people," writes Business Insider. "One, they said, was dedicated to teaching Grok how to play one of Musk's favorite video games, 'League of Legends.'" That definitely sounds like the unparalleled, no drugs grindset of someone worth a trillion dollars. It's worth noting that all of this was happening the year following Musk exposing himself as a massive cheater in games like Diablo 4 and Path of Exiles 2. Baldur's Gate 3's own publishing head was busy calling out Musk's promises of AI generated video games for missing the point.

Baldur's Gate 3 somehow delays Grok update on Twitter, and Larian feels the same way about that as you: "Can I have just one normal week"
I like to think we've all taken time off work or rearranged our schedules to make room for video games at one point or another, and Elon Musk is reportedly no exception. The multi-multi-multi-billionaire apparently became so engrossed in Baldur's Gate 3, he parlayed a rollout for Grok because its Dungeons and Dragons knowledge left something to be desired. In a report from Business Insider, it's stated Musk literally moved staff around to make sure Grok's responses on Larian's RPG were of better quality. "In one instance last year, a model release was delayed for several days because Musk was dissatisfied with how the chatbot answered detailed questions about the video game Baldur's Gate, according to people familiar with the matter," the piece states. "High-level engineers were pulled from other projects to improve the responses before launch, they said," the outlet adds. The SpaceX, Tesla, and xAI founder is a noted fan of role-playing games, having gotten very into Elden Ring as well as the third Baldur's Gate; however, as far as I'm aware, FromSoftware can't boast of contributing to him altering his company's structure in any way. There's no feedback on whether Grok suddenly became a worthy authority on Larian's blockbuster release, probably because many players don't care to use chatbots for things they can figure out themselves or ask each other about. Given some of the enormous ethical issues surrounding the Twitter-integrated software - and AI chatbots as a whole - I don't think it's a popular tool for navigating the Forgotten Realms. Baldur's Gate 3 isn't the only game that became part of xAI's day-to-day either. Business Insider states Musk also tried to make Grok get good at a certain MOBA from Riot Games. "At the end of 2025, at least five war rooms were running simultaneously, according to three people. One, they said, was dedicated to teaching Grok how to play one of Musk's favorite video games, League of Legends," says the piece. Larian's director of publishing, Michael Douse, responded to these claims appropriately. "Can I have just one normal week," he says on Twitter. It's looking doubtful on that one, I'm afraid. I wonder if employees under Musk are already dreading when the new Divinity arrives.

Elon Musk reportedly delayed a Grok model release for several days because the xAI chatbot couldn't properly answer detailed questions about Baldur's Gate 3. High-level engineers were pulled from other projects to improve Grok's gaming knowledge, while separate teams worked in war rooms to teach Grok to play League of Legends.
