One of the standout features is "Select to search with Lens," which brings smartphone-like visual search capabilities to Chromebooks. Users can long-press the launcher icon or use the screenshot tool to select any area of the screen for instant visual search 2. This feature also includes text capture functionality, allowing users to easily add events to Google Calendar or insert text into Google Workspace apps 5.

AI-Powered Productivity Tools

The Quick Insert key, introduced last year, now gains AI image generation capabilities. Users can create images on demand and access AI-powered writing tools directly from their Chromebooks 2. Google has partnered with Lenovo to introduce the Chromebook Plus 14, which boasts exclusive AI features. This device includes Smart grouping, which uses AI to organize tabs and documents into logical groups, and AI image editing in the Gallery app for background removal and sticker creation 4. Google AI Pro Plan and Additional Perks

New Chromebook Plus users will receive a 12-month free trial of the Google AI Pro plan, valued at $240 per year. This plan includes access to advanced AI tools like the Gemini app, video editing tool Flow, and image-to-video creation tool Whisk, along with 2TB of cloud storage 2.

Google is also optimizing third-party applications for Chromebooks. The Luminar AI photo editing app now offers a three-month trial for Chromebook Plus users. Additionally, the Netflix game "Squid Game: Unleashed" has been adapted for Chromebooks with keyboard and mouse input support 5.

Hardware Requirements and Availability

These new AI features are primarily available on Chromebook Plus devices, which require a modern CPU and at least 8GB of RAM 1. The Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14, featuring an OLED touch screen and MediaTek Kompanio Ultra chip, is available in 12GB and 16GB RAM variants, priced at $649 and $749 respectively 2.
