Google Photos' Ask Photos could soon make searching memories even easier

Ask Photos is a feature within Google Photos that allows you to ask questions to the service to retrieve relevant images from your photo collection. For instance, you can ask "Photos that'd make great phone backgrounds," or "What did I eat on my trip to Barcelona?" to get AI to give you the right results for such complex queries. This feature is currently available in the US only, and can be accessed by tapping on the Ask tab in the Photos app. Google Photos v7.52.0 includes code for a new way to access Ask Photos, and we've managed to activate it before its launch to give you an early look.

What's happened? Google's Ask Photos feature, which uses AI to let users query their photo library with natural language questions, is about to get an interesting update. Currently, the feature is available only in the dedicated Ask tab of the Photos app for users in the United States. However, the folks at Android Authority have spotted a new capability in Google Photos version 7.52.0, which introduces an additional way to access the tool. Soon, Google Photos users will be able to use the Ask Photos feature simply by tapping a new button located below a picture's preview. Why is this important? Alongside the new Ask Photos button, the publication also uncovered code in the latest APK referencing another upcoming feature called "Outfits collection." As the name suggests, this feature should allow users to organize their photos by outfit. According to the report, "users will be able to build a collection of outfits" within the app. There's also speculation that the feature might integrate Google's Doppl virtual try-on technology, which lets users upload a photo and try on outfits using AI-generated images. The new Ask Photos button streamlines access to Google Photos' AI-powered search tool, while the "Outfits collection" feature hints that the app could evolve beyond a passive image gallery and basic editor -- becoming an interactive, AI-enhanced personal archive. The Ask Photos button reduces the effort needed to rediscover memories through natural language queries. Meanwhile, the "Outfits collection" feature could make online clothes shopping more convenient by letting users virtually try on outfits without ordering, waiting for delivery, or visiting a retail store. However, it's worth noting that there's no guarantee these features will make it into a stable Google Photos app update.
