NEW DELHI: As global demand for data analytics rises, companies are increasingly seeking skilled professionals in this area. India stands out as a global hub, with nearly a quarter of its job postings focused on this expertise. India leads with a share of 17.4% of its job postings seeking data analytics skills for the Jan-July period this year, the latest data from Cornerstone's Global State of the Skills Economy Report 2024 said. Over the past five years, the share of data analytics job postings has grown by 52%, highlighting the critical role data plays in shaping business strategies, it adds. The US follows with 8.8% of its job postings focused on data analytics. The emphasis on data analytics is closely linked to advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), which has seen a 65% increase in demand for AI roles over the past five years. The report indicates that countries like India and Germany are leading in relative demand for AI skills, even outpacing the United States. India leads with 4.1% of its job postings focused on AI/ML, which reflects the country's growing stature in the global AI landscape and highlights a strong interest in developing AI/ML capabilities. Germany and Japan follow India with a share of 2.5% and 2.2% respectively. Further, the explosive growth of Generative AI (GenAI), a subset of AI, stands out. There was a 411% surge in GenAI-related job postings, particularly following the launch of ChatGPT-4 in early 2023, highlighting the growing demand for GenAI expertise, it notes. ''This rapid adoption urgently requires a workforce skilled in AI applications. Companies must hire new talent and invest in reskilling their existing workforce to fully capitalize on these advancements'', it adds. Interestingly, despite the technological advancements over the last five years, the persistent need for human skills remains strong, and in fact surpassed the demand for digital skills, across all regions. ''As Gen AI begins to redefine roles across industries, it will be human skills of leadership, creativity, and ethical judgment that will turn technological potential and innovation into real-world success'', Nishchae Suri, managing director of Cornerstone India told TOI. For the report, SkyHive, part of Cornerstone, leveraged its Knowledge Graph covering over 150 countries, including job postings, resumes and government data. Companies can maintain a competitive edge by actively addressing skill gaps and promoting continuous learning, ultimately boosting productivity and profits, the report adds. India leads in demand for data analytics globally: Global State of the Skills Economy Report

India has the highest demand for data analytics skills globally with 17.4% job openings for the profile according to the Global State of the Skills Economy Report from SkyHive by Cornerstone. The country also ranks number one for demand of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) skills with 4.1% job openings accounting for AI/ML skills. "The share of data analytics job postings has grown by 52% over the last five years, highlighting the critical role data plays in shaping business strategies," Cornerstone said in the report. "India leads with 17.4% of its job postings looking for data analytics skills, followed by the US at 8.8%, positioning these countries as global hubs for data analytics expertise," it added. Other markets with high demand for data analytics skills include UK (7.5%), New Zealand (6.7%), and Australia (6.4%). For AI/ML, the share of job listings has grown 65% globally since 2019, with India (4.1%), Germany (2.5%) and Japan (2.2%) leading the country wise demand chart. The adoption of AI/ML has been on the rise globally, with industries using it to automate routine tasks and enhance decision-making. When it comes to GenAI skills, India is ranked second in terms of demand second to Germany, which the report said, implies that GenAI adoption has broadened beyond traditional tech giants. Demand for augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) skills has shown the sharpest growth over the past five years according to Cornerstone, with job listings in the speciality field increasing 154% from 2019. India is ranked second on the list at 0.2% of the total job listings being for AR/VR skills, following the US at 0.4%. "This expansion reflects a strategic shift as industries explore AR/VR applications that extend beyond entertainment, expanding into training simulations, remote collaboration, and customer experience," Cornerstone observed in the report. It added that the increase suggests that organizations are starting to recognize AR/VR's long-term potential to transform traditional workflows and create new business opportunities globally. India however, lags significantly when it comes to demand for flexible or remote working talent. As compared to 22.8% share of demand for flexible and remote workers in Australia, and 21% in Germany, in India, this number stands at just 6.3%. While India fares well in terms of share of job postings promoting diversity, equity and inclusion by country at 1.3% second only to the US at 3.7, when it comes to job listings promoting employee experience, it stands at number 6 behind countries like Australia, New Zealand, US, UK, and Germany.
