MediaTek Introduces Groundbreaking Dimensity 8400 Chip

MediaTek has unveiled its latest premium smartphone chip, the Dimensity 8400, promising to revolutionize AI and gaming performance in the mobile industry. This new processor brings significant advancements in processing power, energy efficiency, and AI capabilities to the premium smartphone market 1.

Innovative All Big Core Design

The Dimensity 8400 introduces an All Big Core CPU design to the premium smartphone segment for the first time. It features an eight-core Arm Cortex-A725 processor with a peak clock speed of 3.25GHz, delivering a 41% improvement in multi-core performance compared to its predecessor, the Dimensity 8300 2.

Enhanced Gaming Experience

For gaming enthusiasts, the Dimensity 8400 incorporates the Arm Mali-G720 GPU, offering 24% higher peak performance and 42% greater power efficiency than its predecessor. The chip also includes MediaTek Frame Rate Converter (MFRC) for smoother gameplay and MediaTek Adaptive Gaming Technology (MAGT) 3.0 for real-time performance optimization 3.

Advanced AI Capabilities

The Dimensity 8400 features MediaTek's NPU 880, which supports generative AI tasks and mainstream Large Language Models (LLMs). It also introduces the Dimensity Agentic AI Engine (DAE), previously exclusive to flagship chips, enabling developers to create innovative AI applications that can anticipate user needs and adapt to preferences 3.

Improved Camera and Display Support

The built-in MediaTek Imagiq 1080 ISP supports up to 320-megapixel camera sensors and leverages QPD remosaic technology for improved light capture and faster focusing. The chip enables video capture and playback in up to 4K resolution at 60 frames per second and supports displays with WQHD resolution and up to 144Hz refresh rate 2.

Connectivity and Power Efficiency

The Dimensity 8400 includes MediaTek's 5G-A modem with up to 5.17 Gbps performance and support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4. It also features MediaTek UltraSave 3.0+ technology for improved efficiency on 5G networks 2.

Market Availability

MediaTek has announced that smartphones powered by the Dimensity 8400 are expected to be available in the market by the end of 2024. Xiaomi has already confirmed that its upcoming Redmi Turbo 4 in China will feature this chipset 4.
