The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra was announced last week as the successor to the S24 Ultra, along with the Galaxy S25 and S25+. Samsung's latest flagship smartphone features customized Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy chipset and several AI features, including multimodal AI agents, and aim to deliver highly personalized and context-aware mobile experiences. Here we have the first impressions along with an unboxing. The Galaxy S25 Ultra features a 6.9-inch Quad HD+ Infinity-O-Edge Dynamic AMOLED Display with up to 2600 nits peak brightness. This gets Corning Gorilla Armor 2 protection that uses glass ceramic cover material, offering enhanced drop protection, scratch resistance, and anti-reflection properties. This time, all the models in the Galaxy S25 series are powered by up to 4.47 GHz Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy 3nm Mobile Platform with Adreno 830 GPU. Qualcomm said that it has worked closely with Samsung to customize the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy to deliver premium image quality and power consumption on a Galaxy smartphone display. The company said that the phone features a 40% larger vapour chamber compared to the S24 Ultra and a tailored thermal interface material (TIM) for extra improvement in thermal efficiency. It still has a 12MP front camera. You can see that the bezels are even slimmer than the S24 Ultra. The phone runs Android 15 with One UI 7 on the top bringing multimodal AI agents that can interpret text, speech, images, and videos. There are upgrades to Google's Circle to Search, new Now Brief & Now Bar that proactively offer suggestions based on analyzed data, accessible on the lock screen. All the Galaxy S25 series devices come with 6 months of Gemini Advanced and 2TB of cloud storage at no extra cost. The phone incorporates titanium frame, and the phone has become more curved on the corners and has sharp edges. The power button and the volume rockers are on the right side. The S Pen slot, speaker grill, USB Type-C port, primary microphone and the SIM card slot are on the bottom. The microphone is on the top. The device feels lighter and more compact in the hand compared to the previous generation. Samsung has managed to shave off 15 grams in weight , 0.4 mm in thickness and 1.4 mm in width. The Galaxy S25 Ultra retain the 200MP main sensor, 10MP 3x telephoto camera and a 50MP 5x periscope telephoto camera, similar to the predecessor. This gets a 50MP ultra-wide camera compared to the 12MP ultra-wide camera. Here are a few camera samples. The phone features advanced image processing with ProScaler, Virtual Aperture for depth-of-field control, Galaxy Log for color grading, enhancements to Portrait Studio and Filters and improved low-light video performance. For the battery, the S25 Ultra comes with a 5000mAh cell with 45W fast charging, which is unchanged from its predecessor. It continues to support wireless charging and reverse wireless charging. Where to Preorder the Samsung Galaxy S25 and S25 Ultra Smartphones - IGN
The Galaxy S25 Ultra is Samsung's flagship phone. The 256GB is listed at $1,299.99 with $150 in Samsung credit, the 512GB is on sale for $1,299.99 ($120 discount) with $130 in Samsung credit, and the 1TB is on sale for $1,419.99 ($240 discount) with $110 in Samsung credit. As befits the highest-end phone in the stack, the S25 Ultra is equipped with top-of-the-line hardware. It is also the most updated phone in the lineup, with a lighter body, new Gorilla Armor 2 display glass with a better anti-reflective coating, sharper ultrawide lens, and 10-bit HDR video recording. Towards the end of its Galaxy Unpacked presentation, Samsung teased a quick glimpse of a potential slimmer "Edge" smartphone. Unfortunately, we didn't get any other official information outside of that sizzle reel cameo, so we don't know where it likes in the Galay S25 product stack (if at all), and when we expect this phone to be released. The incorporation of AI has been at the forefront of CES 2025 and Samsung continues to follow suit with its own Galaxy AI algorithm. AI smartphone integration is still in its fledgling state and we expect its utility will continue to improve with updates down the road. That said, unlike Apple, you will not need to upgrade to a new 2025 model to take advantage of Galaxy AI. Many features will be (or are already are) backwards compatible with older models, although, of course, newer models will be able to take better advantage of more demanding features. The Galaxy S24 Ultra was our favorite Android phone of 2024. In our Galaxy S24 Ultra review review, Jacqueline Thomas wrote that "the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is an incredible smartphone. It might look like yet another Galaxy device, but its titanium chassis and powerful processor makes this a durable gaming phone that can outrace the best of them." The less expensive Galaxy S24 Plus was also a solid winner in our books. In our Galaxy S24 Plus review, Mark Knapp wrote that "the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is the best Android phone you can buy right now, but at $1,299, it really needs to be. This is not only the fastest gaming phone you can buy today, but with its premium titanium chassis, it might just be the most durable. Samsung is sweetening the deal a bit by adding a huge variety of AI tools, but many of them will probably be forgotten after you've been using the phone for a while. Still, don't let that get you down: If you want a premium Android phone in 2024, it's hard to imagine getting anything else."
