TikTok Introduces AI-Powered Creator Tools

TikTok announced three significant updates at its US Creator Summit, focusing on artificial intelligence-powered content creation tools and improved monetization options for creators. The social media platform, owned by ByteDance, unveiled these features to over 300 creators attending the in-person gathering

1

.

The new features represent TikTok's continued investment in AI technology to support its creator ecosystem. "At TikTok, we want to empower human creativity with AI-powered tools that make it easier to create, discover, and connect around original content," the company stated

.

Smart Split: Automated Video Editing

Smart Split is an AI-powered editing tool designed to automatically transform longer videos into multiple shorter clips suitable for TikTok's format. The feature works with videos longer than one minute and is particularly useful for podcast recordings or day-long vlogs captured by wearable cameras

1

.

Creators can upload their content to TikTok Studio Web and select which portions they want converted into shorter clips. Smart Split then handles the technical aspects, including choosing optimal video length, generating captions, transcribing content, and reframing videos vertically for mobile viewing

2

.

"If you've ever spent hours trimming down podcasts into clips... this one is for you," said Kim Farrell, TikTok's global head of creators, during the summit

3

. The tool is now available globally through TikTok Studio Web, allowing creators to publish edited content directly to the platform.

AI Outline: Pre-Production Planning Assistant

AI Outline addresses the pre-production phase of content creation by generating comprehensive video outlines based on user prompts or trending topics from Creator Search Insights. The tool creates video titles, hashtags, hooks, and script ideas that creators can customize to match their personal style

1

.

The feature structures content into six customizable parts, allowing creators to adjust elements like title length, refine hooks, and modify script ideas. For example, a creator could input "Baking lessons for beginners" and receive a complete content framework

2

.

Unlike Smart Split's global availability, AI Outline has a more limited initial release. The feature is currently available only to creators aged 18 and older in the United States, Canada, and select markets, with broader rollout planned for coming weeks

4

.

Enhanced Revenue Sharing Program

TikTok also announced improvements to its subscription-based revenue sharing model, allowing qualifying creators to earn up to 90 percent of profit payouts. The updated system builds on TikTok's existing subscription program, which functions similarly to Patreon by enabling creators to offer exclusive content for monthly fees

4

.

Under the new structure, all subscription creators receive 70 percent of TikTok's revenue share after fees. However, creators meeting specific criteria can unlock an additional 20 percent monthly reward. These requirements include having at least 10,000 followers, 100,000 views in the previous month, and posting at least three subscription-only videos within the last month

Industry Context and AI Integration

These announcements reflect TikTok's broader strategy of integrating artificial intelligence into content creation workflows. The platform previously introduced TikTok Symphony, an AI creative suite for businesses, and AI Alive, which transforms static photos into short-form videos

4

.

TikTok's AI integration follows similar moves by other social media platforms. Twitch recently announced AI-powered clip creation tools for livestreams, while Meta has developed various AI features including AI Studio and editing tools

3

. Both new AI tools are designed to comply with TikTok's Community Guidelines, with content undergoing moderation review before publication.
