The new feature works by analysing a combination of past search history, booking patterns, and customer reviews to deliver a tailored and intuitive experience, said the company. Moreover, by aligning the unique appeal of each destination with the traveller's core interests, the AI-driven model ensures that the recommendations match not just the location but also the traveller's specific needs. For example, luxury travellers will be shown high-end hotel options based on their previous bookings, while budget-conscious travellers will be presented with affordable options suited to their price range. "Traditional search filters require travellers to manually refine options from multiple parameters, but 'Collections' takes discovery to the next level by combining deep traveller insights with advanced AI," noted Ankit Khanna, Chief Product Officer - Hotel, Growth & Emerging Businesses at MakeMyTrip. The feature also has the ability to continuously learn from user interactions, offering smarter, more accurate recommendations with every search.

It was reported in September that online booking giants like Booking.com, Expedia and Airbnb were embracing AI to avoid being replaced by AI agents that help travelers arrange trips and lodging. Among the AI-enabled features being developed or already deployed by some of these companies are ones that automate services and launch tools such as trip planners, handle customer queries, search for trip ideas and complete checkout. The PYMNTS Intelligence report "At Your Service: Generative AI Arrives in Travel and Hospitality" found that 52% of hospitality customers expect generative AI to play a role in customer interactions and that 44% believe the technology will be used to improve guest engagement. However, the report added that experts said generative AI should enhance rather than replace human interactions. "Businesses' overreliance on generative AI could lead to artificial-sounding messages that alienate customers," the report said.

New study from Texas A&M College of Agriculture and Life Sciences confirms that hotel booking chatbots are genuinely creeping people out, and it is actually hurting bookings. What is giving hotel chatbots their creep factor? Researchers surveyed 340 adults in the UK who had used chatbots to book hotels and found three main culprits behind the ick factor: inaccuracy, deceptive behavior, and intrusiveness. Inaccuracy was by far the biggest offender, triggering a negative response more than four times stronger than the other flaws. Researchers also recommend making it easier to reach a real human for complex queries and invest in upgrading the AI itself so it can actually handle the basics without fumbling. This research lands at a fascinating moment, because AI travel booking is the hottest thing in tech right now. Google recently added AI trip planning to Search, and Uber just launched hotel booking through Expedia inside its app.
