Quick LinksWhat Is Hamster AI? Is Hamster AI Really Free? What Tools Does Hamster AI offer? How Does Hamster AI Compare With Other AI Tools? Key Takeaways Hamster AI is an all-in-one tool offering various AI options for free, accessible via PickAxe. Free plan includes 27 tools with 250 monthly credits, paid plans available for only $2-3/month. Features include image, chat, text, education, DnD, and coding generation tools.
I've tried countless AI tools, and I'm often disappointed, frustrated, or simply don't want to spend money on AI. Hamster AI is a breath of fresh air in the sea of unimaginative AI tools, with many features I've never considered using. From images to coding and lots in between, here's why Hamster AI is the best generative AI tool around.
What Is Hamster AI?
Hamster AI is a browser-based creative AI tool. It provides many AI options, such as image generation, chatbots, and coding generators, and it is more publicly accessible than most similar AI tools. Hamster AI is an open-source tool that allows users to access it for free and access the source code to improve the tool for everyone.
There is a plethora of AI tools online and built into creative software. Most of these are hidden behind subscription paywalls, and if they're free they're usually covered with watermarks or simply too bad in quality to warrant using. Hamster AI merges AI technology with free-to-access platform availability so you can create awesome things with AI, without subscriptions, watermarks, or low-quality output.
Hamster AI is run via PickAxe, an AI storefront that allows creators to be creative with their AI offerings.
Is Hamster AI Really Free?
Open-source software is usually offered for free, with the benefit that the source code -- or changelog -- is accessible to anyone with a developer's mind who wishes to improve the code.
While most open-source programs are either 100% free to all, or eventually become paid-for software, Hamster AI offers both options. Its free plan really is free, and you're not compromising on quality by opting for it.
The free plan limits monthly credits to 250 -- higher than most other free AI tools -- and gets you access to 27 tools within Hamster's offering. Free users are capped at generating 5 items per day through Hamster; however, you can continue through PickAxe once you hit the cap.
There are paid plans, too, which are rare in open-source programs. You won't be breaking the bank if you choose to pay, since the Premium plan is only $3 per month, and the Just Text plan only $2 per month. These plans have unlimited credits and provide superior image generation.
What Tools Does Hamster AI offer?
Hamster AI is an all-in-one AI tool that includes image generation, chatbots and text generation, and coding generation. Each section of tools has a handful of features you can use.
AI Image Generation Tools
There are a few different image generation tools, but the results from each are largely the same. The tools differ in the way of providing or prompting information for the generator.
First, a simple Image Gen tool with a text prompt box. You'll receive an 8-bit 1024 x 1024 px PNG which you can download with no watermark. This AI image generator follows the prompt well and provides fairly good quality output so long as you're not zooming in or enlarging.
There's an integrated chatbot image generator that lets you converse with the AI to improve your image based on previous results. The final image is the same size and quality as the simple image generator.
You can also upload an image and use it within your prompt; however, the upload formats are limited to rare formats -- PDF, TXT, DOCX, CSV, XLSX, JSON, or PPTX -- and the prompt doesn't take much from the uploaded image either. This is the weakest image generator on Hamster.
Finally, there's the Advanced Image Generator. This provides a small form of questions and prompt boxes for your generated image that gives you more control over the result. You can choose a style from the dropdown, as well as include written prompts and elements.
AI Chat and Text Tools
The text-based AI tools are where Hamster really shines. While there are the standard chatbots, like GPT-4 Chatbot and a funny Turtle Chatbot, there's also more in Hamster's toolbox.
Starting with the Story Creator, you can request a main topic or character and a general theme for the generated story. Add an image made with the generator, and you can easily write and self-publish a book.
For those working in online marketing or content creation, there are many helpful text tools: AI Blog Post Generator, Email Creator, Social Media Post Creator, and Help Article Maker.
Hamster AI's Branding Guru tool can help you create your own brand identity. This includes guidance for building a brand with expert assistance. This tool may compete against Microsoft Designer and Canva's brand functions but you'll get expert guidance on what to include, rather than the imagery and visuals.
Another great AI text-based tool is the transcript summarizer. This is helpful for long meeting notes or emails, or any long pieces of text you simply need a quick summary of. The benefit is having a summarizer built in, otherwise you'd have to install other software like Dropbox Dash for summarizing.
There are some specific chatbots on Hamster that can access the web, but not all. The Web AI and No Filter Chatbot can both be used for online research or intelligence uses.
AI Education Tools
While these may straddle the line of text tools, it's rare to see AI tools dedicated to educational use -- and I don't mean they're here to help you cheat on your school essays.
Hamster offers tools to help educators save time in the classroom with a Paper Grader tool as well as a Rubric Generator. The former is in Beta mode at the time of writing, but they are both tools I would've enjoyed and benefitted from using as a college tutor in my first teaching role.
AI DnD Tools
This is a genre I've yet to find elsewhere in AI tools -- DnD AI tools. These specific AI tools make Hamster AI a unique choice compared to all other AI tools I've come across.
With an AI bot as a Dungeon Master or DnD Player Bot, you can play Dungeons and Dragons with AI. That's not all, there are also character and avatar creator AI tools, and the Play an Adventure with an AI DM Bot. Although DnD is a social game to play with friends, Hamster's AI technology is proving that to be unnecessary.
AI Coding Tools
If images, chatbots, education, and Dungeons and Dragons weren't enough, Hamster AI also offers an Intelligent Code Generator.
If coding terrifies or confuses you, then this code generator may be the perfect way to jump into coding with all the information at your fingertips. You can save time on Googling HTML or Java lines, and ask Hamster instead.
There are AI tools specifically to help you with coding, and you can also learn to code with ChatGPT or Gemini, but -- once again -- all these helpful tools being in one place pushes Hamster AI to the top of the list for AI tools.
How Does Hamster AI Compare With Other AI Tools?
Hamster AI is incredibly accessible compared to the likes of Midjourney or ChatGPT and other AI tools. The biggest perk is that Hamster is available completely for free, and you're not blocked with watermarks or terrible quality, as is often the case with other free AI tools.
The image generation is good -- I even got some images without AI gibberish text in them, although you can fix gibberish AI text when using other tools. The quality is high enough for anything I'd use the images for, typically social media or just for fun.
I'm most impressed by Hamster AI's extra AI tools, such as the coding generator, the DnD AI tools, and the educational AI tools. I genuinely would have benefitted from some of these tools if they were options a few years ago.
As an open-source tool, and through its connection to PickAxe, I think Hamster AI has a bright future in the AI scene. I can't compare it to any other tools, since I've never come across a tool that offers all of this for free before.
