Claude.ai Allows You To Create Your Own Custom Writing Styles
If you're interested in getting more flexibility from your AI writing, ChatGPT-competitor Claude.ai is rolling out new tools that will allow you to customize its text to fit the situation. Claude.ai now offers users different preset "Voices", which mean users can tailor the text they receive based on the style they want. The chatbot now offers three main styles. "Formal" to help you with clear and polished responses, "Concise" for shorter and more direct responses, and "Explanatory" for educational responses to help you learn new concepts. But users will be able to go beyond what the presets offer and create their own Custom Styles. You'll first need to upload sample content that demonstrates the style you want -- for example, a book you're fond of, or an email that captures the style you're going for. You can then save these Custom Styles you create and then return to them later. Claude.ai's parent firm Anthropic, which boasts many former Open AI alumni in its staff, has been raising large sums of money as it continues to roll out new features. Most recently, Amazon agreed to pour $4 billion into the firm earlier in November according to Crunchbase. Anthropic describes the Claude 3.5 Sonnet, which started beta testing in June 2024, as their "most intelligent model yet." Claude.ai also received a desktop app for the first time earlier this month, which is free to download for both Mac and Windows users. Anthropic is also fresh off the rollout of what it called a "computer use" feature. Though it's currently only available to developers who download the API from GitHub as part of the Claude 3.5 Sonnet beta, some developers can now direct Claude to "use computers the way people do." This means the chatbot can move a cursor, click buttons, and type text by itself when directed. However, even Anthropic itself described the new "computer use" feature as "cumbersome and error-prone." Some experts are also worried about the long-term implications of the new feature. Jonas Kgomo, the founder of the AI safety group Equianas Institute, said Claude's computer use was "untested AI safety territory", stressing how features like this could be used by cybercriminals.

You can now ask Claude to mimic your writing style
Anthropic is rolling out new ways for you to change how your Claude AI chatbot communicates with a new range of pre-set and custom writing styles. Instead of explaining in every prompt how you want the AI to respond, you'll be able to tailor its conversation to your needs. That means Claude will be as formal or casual, verbose or concise as you wish. It's a major step to making talking to an AI feel more natural and more like talking to a person, in this case, a person who speaks in a way you prefer. There are three preset options you can pick from right away. The names are pretty much on the nose. Formal style is for professional, precise responses; Concise is for shorter and direct answers; and Explanatory style is more about explaining and teaching, with extra context and details. However, the new custom style option is the real eye-catcher. You can create your own personal communication styles for Claude to mimic by uploading samples in the tone and style you want, along with your own words describing the way you want Claude to write. Over time, you can fine-tune and improve the descriptions to make the AI chatbot a perfect mimic. You can see how it works below. "Whether you're a developer writing technical documentation, a marketer crafting specific brand guidelines, or a product team planning extensive project requirements, Claude can adapt to your preferred way of writing," Anthropic explained in a blog post. "With styles, Claude adapts to your unique context and communication choices, helping you achieve more while working in a way that feels natural to you." For those keen on consistent style, like in business or professional communications, the new feature has obvious appeal. Anthropic pointed to customers like GitHub, which is using the style options to improve internal operations and create marketing copy. It's worth raising questions about how customizable AI might reshape communication in professional and creative spaces. Could this blur the line between human-authored and AI-generated content? And in scenarios where tone and voice are crucial -- like legal documents or sensitive communications -- how much responsibility should fall on the AI versus the user to ensure accuracy and appropriateness? Anthropic's approach is somewhat unique, but customizing AI responses isn't entirely new. ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot all have features for customizing tone and voice. Still, Anthropic's option to infer your preferred style from uploaded content could make it a lot easier to teach the AI how you want it to write.

Claude AI Will Write the Way You Want It to With This Feature
The option to choose styles will be visible in Claude's text field Anthropic introduced a new feature in Claude on Tuesday that will allow the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot to generate responses in users' preferred writing style. Dubbed Custom Style, the new feature is aimed at the chatbot's responses more in tune with how the user generally writes and prefers to read. With this personalisation feature, users can either select from three preset options or add their own writing sample to make the AI adopt that style. The company has rolled out the new feature to all Claude users. While chatbots powered by large language models (LLMs) are capable of generating content on virtually any topic, often the limiter becomes the writing style. The AI can sometimes generate content in an overly formal tone that might not be suited for a message generated for a friend, or use a flowery language that might be too flashy for an academic paper. While some AI tools, such as Google's Gemini in Gmail and Docs or Samsung's Galaxy AI in Notes offer users some presets to control the tonality of the generated output, usually such tools are not available within major AI chatbots. For most cases, the only workaround is to detail the desired writing style manually in every prompt. In a newsroom post, Anthropic announced the release of the Custom Styles feature that will make this process easier. The new feature is available to all users across all platforms. To use it, users can go to Claude and see a new quill icon added at the bottom of the text field, next to the AI model selection button. Once a user taps on the icon, users can see four preset options -- Normal, Concise, Formal, and Explanatory. The Formal style generates clear and polished responses while the Concise style generates shorter and direct responses. Anthropic says the Explanatory style is suitable for "educational responses for learning new concepts." Apart from this, users can also create custom styles. The process is simple. Users can tap on the "Create and Edit Styles" option which opens a new pop-up window. The users can either paste a writing sample of theirs or upload a document. Claude can analyse the content for the writing structure, tonality, word preference, and more. Gadgets 360 staff members were able to test out the feature. The feature appears to be working properly, however, in practical usage, we found the AI was not able to pick up on the writing nuances and resorted to only following the general outlines of the writing style.

Claude gets custom style feature -- makes the AI chatbot write just like you
AI chatbots are so last year -- this year's focus is adding a personal touch, and Claude's latest update might make it the most personal chatbot around. Anthropic is adding a new feature to Claude that will allow users to write in three preset styles, with Concise, Explanatory and Formal options. Perhaps most impressively, these can be trained using a user's own communications and writing to help the model learn how you respond to emails and messages. You can give it messages, documents and more. In a new blog post, the team at Anthropic explained that aside from the preset options, Claude can generate a "custom" style for anyone able to upload a chunk of their writing into the model. Doing so will describe the user. My editor, Ryan, was dubbed a "tech translator" who is able to "Deliver analytical tech insights through conversational and contextually rich communication," so if nothing else it might be fun to see what Claude thinks of your writing. Anthropic is keen to note that the custom style it builds is consistent across use cases, so it won't forget who you are between projects. You just select the chosen style when you start a new conversation with Claude.

Claude AI can now mirror your writing style perfectly
Anthropic has introduced a significant update to its Claude AI assistant, allowing users to customize writing styles for various tasks. This new feature enhances user control over the communication style and is now available to all Claude users. The update responds to the increasing demand for personalized interactions with AI, enabling users to train Claude to reflect their individual preferences, whether for professional emails, technical documents, or marketing content. The custom styles feature provides three preset options: Formal, Concise, and Explanatory. The Formal style is designed for polished, professional communication, while Concise delivers direct and to-the-point responses. The Explanatory style caters to educational needs, offering detailed explanations for complex topics. Users have the added capability to create custom styles tailored to their specific needs. This process involves uploading writing samples and instructing Claude on the desired adjustments, thereby ensuring that responses are not only relevant but also closely aligned with individual communication patterns. Early adopters of the feature, like GitLab, have noted its efficacy in maintaining consistent communication across various tasks. Taylor McCaslin, GitLab's product lead for AI and ML technology, stated that these custom styles have facilitated improved collaboration among teams by standardizing responses in different contexts. "Claude's custom styles have helped our teams maintain consistent communication across various tasks," McCaslin explained. This functionality is aimed at meeting diverse requirements, whether in drafting business documents or updating user documentation. Anthropic's Claude now can use a computer Anthropic's initiative aligns with trends in the AI sector where competing models, such as OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini, also offer features that enable users to tailor AI-generated content based on their unique writing styles. These technologies aim to enhance user experience by making interactions feel more natural and appropriate for specific applications, addressing a growing need for personalized automated communication. Scott White, Claude's product leader, emphasized the importance of this update by stating, "You might want in-depth explanations when you're learning something new, or quick, straight-to-the-point answers when you're in a hurry." The customization options mean that whether a user prefers a more formal tone or a conversational one, Claude can accommodate these preferences seamlessly.

Claude AI Now Can Sample and Mimic Your Writing Style
Claude AI is giving you new ways to style and customize the text output. With a recent update, Claude can now analyze a sample of your writing and try to mimic it. You should find a new menu in the Claude text box that lets you "Choose Style." Here you can tailor how Claude writes the responses to your prompts. You can ask it to respond in a normal, concise, explanatory, or formal style. You can switch styles mid-conversation depending on how you want Claude to talk. You can sample any of these presets with the preview feature before trying them in chat. Just click the preset style and preview it with a short story, customer email, blog post, review, or educational content. It'll change elements "such as tone, voice, vocabulary, detail level, and more." Style presets are useful, but not all that special. Google's Gemini has had them since the beginning. What you won't find anywhere else is Claude's new ability to mimic your unique writing style. There are two ways you can do that. You can either upload a sample of your writing or describe your style to Claude. You can create as many custom styles and fine-tune Claude's responses to match exactly what you need. Just pick "Create & Edit Styles" from the drop-down to "Create a Custom Style." From there, either paste in the text or upload a document file with your sample. Claude will take that sample and generate a matching style for you. Once you create a new style, it'll show up in the chat box. Alternatively, you can pick "Describe Style Instead." Try telling Claude about the specifics of your communication style, your audience, and what you're trying to achieve with the writing style. Then you can use the preview feature to make sure it matches what you want. Via: The Verge

Anthropic's Claude Can Now Write Like You
"How many times has AI generated content for you, but it 'didn't sound like you?' We have solved it," says Chris Gorgolewski, tech staff member at Anthropic. Anthropic has announced a major update in its Claude model. Claude will now be able to follow custom writing. This allows users to upload sample texts, using which the model will generate outputs in a similar style. Chris Gorgolewski, a technical staff member at Anthropic, took to X to make the announcement. "How many times AI generated some content for you, but it 'didn't sound like you'? We have solved it." Anthropic's new enhancement offers different preset styles, namely normal, formal, concise, and explanatory, to cater to various professional needs. "Whether you're a developer writing formal documentation, a marketer crafting clear brand guidelines, or a product team planning extensive project requirements, Claude can adapt to your preferred way of writing," Anthropic claimed. Users can also create custom styles by uploading sample content that reflects their preferred communication methods. This allows Claude to adapt to specific writing tones and structures. GitLab was among the early adopters of this update. Taylor McCaslin, product lead for AI and ML tech at GitLab, noted, "Claude's ability to maintain a consistent voice while adapting to different contexts allows our team members to use styles for various use cases including writing business cases, updating user documentation, and creating and translating marketing materials." As mentioned in the official blog post, users can define their preferences using preset options or customise their own within the Claude.ai chat interface to implement these styles. As reported by AIM on Tuesday, Anthropic had also made its Model Context Protocol open source. This made connectivity between AI assistants or chatbots and data repositories very easy. The company also recently beat big tech by releasing the 'computer use' feature to its Claude 3.5 series, along with several other updates such as Claude Artifacts, analysis tool and visual PDF. These updates created a significant hype around Anthropic developments in the past year. The company has also secured its place in the public sector and government organisations, starting from its partnership with Palantir to provide the US government with its advanced AI model Claude for data analysis and complex coding activities in projects of national security interest. With this, Anthropic has built the trust and confidence of various players in the public as well as private sector. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei also recently revealed that their Opus model isn't going anywhere. In addition, Anthropic will also launch Claude 3.5 Opus and Claude 4.0 as per the usual business cycle.

Anthropic bets on personalization in the AI arms race with new 'styles' feature
Join our daily and weekly newsletters for the latest updates and exclusive content on industry-leading AI coverage. Learn More Anthropic, a leading artificial intelligence company backed by major tech investors, announced today a significant update to its Claude AI assistant that allows users to customize how the AI communicates -- a move that could reshape how businesses integrate AI into their workflows. The new "styles" feature, launching today on Claude.ai, enables users to preset how Claude responds to queries, offering formal, concise, or explanatory modes. Users can also create custom response patterns by uploading sample content that matches their preferred communication style. Customization becomes key battleground in enterprise AI race This development comes as AI companies race to differentiate their offerings in an increasingly crowded market dominated by OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini. While most AI assistants maintain a single conversational style, Anthropic's approach acknowledges that different business contexts require different communication approaches. "At the moment, many users don't even know they can instruct AI to answer in a specific way," an Anthropic spokesperson told VentureBeat. "Styles helps break through that barrier -- it teaches users a new way to use AI and has the potential to open up knowledge they previously thought was inaccessible." Early enterprise adoption suggests promising results. GitLab, an early customer, has already integrated the feature into various business processes. "Claude's ability to maintain a consistent voice while adapting to different contexts allows our team members to use styles for various use cases including writing business cases, updating user documentation, and creating and translating marketing materials," said Taylor McCaslin, Product Lead AI/ML at GitLab, in a statement sent to VentureBeat. Notably, Anthropic is taking a strong stance on data privacy with this feature. "Unlike other AI labs, we don't train our generative AI models on user-submitted data by default. Anything users upload will not be used to train our models," the company spokesperson emphasized. This position contrasts with some competitors' practices of using customer interactions to improve their models. AI customization signals shift in enterprise strategy While team-wide style sharing won't be available at launch, Anthropic appears to be laying groundwork for broader enterprise features. "We're striving to make Claude as efficient and user-friendly as possible across a range of industries, workflows, and individuals," the spokesperson said, suggesting future expansions of the feature. The move comes as enterprise AI adoption accelerates, with companies seeking ways to standardize AI interactions across their organizations. By allowing businesses to maintain consistent communication styles across AI interactions, Anthropic is positioning Claude as a more sophisticated tool for enterprise deployment. The introduction of styles represents a crucial strategic pivot for Anthropic. While competitors have focused on raw performance metrics and model size, Anthropic is betting that the key to enterprise adoption lies in adaptability and user experience. This approach could prove particularly appealing to large organizations struggling to maintain consistent communication across diverse teams and departments. The feature also addresses a growing concern among enterprise customers: the need to maintain brand voice and corporate communication standards while leveraging AI tools. As the AI industry matures beyond its initial phase of technical one-upmanship, the battlefield is shifting toward practical implementation and user experience. Anthropic's styles feature might seem like a modest update, but it signals a deeper understanding of what enterprises really need from AI: not just intelligence, but intelligence that speaks their language. And in the high-stakes world of enterprise AI, sometimes it's not what you say, but how you say it that matters most.

Anthropic Claude Now Lets You Chat with Your Google Docs
The feature rollout spree continues, and this time, the onus is on personalisation. Anthropic has released a new set of features for Claude.ai. Most importantly, it integrates Google Docs with the AI chatbot to 'directly reference' content inside your chats. You can add a Google Doc file in a chat or a project, which allows Claude to access the same and use the information to generate contextual outputs. "For example, Claude can summarise long Google Docs and reference historical context from the files to inform decision-making or help with strategic planning," said Anthropic. That said, this feature is only available for Claude Pro, Team and Enterprise plans. Another feature lets you choose between three output styles, namely Formal, Concise or Explanatory. "Whether you're a developer writing formal documentation, a marketer crafting clear brand guidelines, or a product team planning extensive project requirements, Claude can adapt to your preferred way of writing," said Anthropic in the announcement. The new update also includes custom styles, which basically lets you add preferences and pre-requisite knowledge to the chatbot's output. Similarly, you can also add 'global profile preferences' to ensure Claude considers the information when generating an output. In this case, OpenAI launched the Custom Instructions feature to ChatGPT a year early. Moreover, recent updates to GPT-4o focused on bolstering its creative writing capabilities, and it also stood atop several benchmarks. However, it isn't all good news for Claude users. It seems like Claude isn't letting users access Sonnet 3.5 on the free version. While several users on X were able to spot that the model can only use Haiku, even we can confirm the same, based on what we noticed on the free version of Claude. On the bright side, Haiku will keep getting better, as mentioned by Dario Amodei, CEO at Anthropic. In a recent podcast episode with Lex Fridman, he said that Anthropic's plan is to first 'shift' the capabilities of existing models. He even went on to say that Haiku 3.5, its smallest model, is as powerful as Opus 3. As Haiku continues to get better, Amodei also confirmed that there are plans in place for the flagship Opus 3.5. Moreover, Anthropic recently announced another round of funds, raising $4 billion from Amazon Web Services (AWS), bringing Amazon's investments in the AI startup to $8 billion.
