Fatal Fury fans accuse new City of the Wolves trailer of being filled with AI slop: 'All that Saudi money and can't pay someone a couple bucks to make real s**t'
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves season 2 looks strong, but it's been overshadows by anger over the announcement trailer. SNK dropped a trailer for season 2 of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, set to kick off on January 22, and an awful lot of fans aren't happy about it. The problem isn't the second season of character DLC, but the trailer promoting it, which many of them think is laden with AI generated content. Comments on YouTube accusing the trailer of being made with generative AI began flowing almost immediately after it was posted. Some called out specific characters who look AI generated; quite a few others made the point that SNK is backed by serious money now and shouldn't be looking to cut corners with gen AI. SNK was effectively acquired in 2022 by Saudi Arabia's Electronic Gaming Development Company, a division of the Mohammed bin Salman Foundation. Bin Salman, the de facto ruler of Saudi Arabia (and credibly accused murderer), is the prime mover behind the $55 billion buyout of Electronic Arts. So, yeah, a shortage of funds should not be an issue. "All that Saudi money and can't pay someone a couple bucks to make real shit," YouTube commenter willthelemon5681 wrote. Similar comments followed on Reddit and the Fatal Fury Discord, where fans expressed disappointment not just with the presence of AI, but also in the way it's overshadowed what looks like a very solid season that will see six new characters added over six months: Kim Jae Hoon, Nightmare Geese, Blue Mary, Wolfgang Krauser, and a pair of mystery fighters. As derpygoku said in the YouTube comments, "The lineup for this season is excellent but the usage of AI in this trailer is definitely not." One now-former SNK and Fatal Fury Discord moderator stepped down because of the trailer, writing, "I'm thankful for what you guys did for us and all but this is too much for me to deal with, this is against what I stand for." i was a SNK moderator for 6 years and official Cotw Discord for a year, this trailer made me step down after all those years, i don't / i can't promote a product that i don't support, thanks for all of those years friends, it was fun 🫡 bsky.app/profile/wari... -- @spicysauce.bsky.social ( @spicysauce.bsky.social.bsky.social) 2026-01-15T22:50:46.278Z All of this is nominally speculative: SNK hasn't come out and copped to using gen AI, nor have any little tiny 'made with gen AI' labels been spotted anywhere. I'm not great at picking out generative AI content from trailers -- they say the eyes are the first to go -- but I'm inclined to believe: When this many people, this quickly and confidently, are calling out the presence of AI-lookin' content, well, you have to think it's pretty likely that something is up, right? This isn't the first time Fatal Fury: City of Wolves has irritated its fan base with a seemingly bad call: When SNK announced that soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo was being added to the game as a playable character, the response was decidedly mixed. Ronaldo is currently playing for Al-Nassr FC in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on a contract worth €200 million ($232 million) per year. I've reached out to SNK to ask whether this new Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves trailer does in fact contain AI generated content, and will update if I receive a reply.

New Fatal Fury Trailer Slammed By Fans Who Think Its Full Of AI
The City of the Wolves season 2 reveal has been downvoted to hell Even before its release in 2025, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves has faced controversy. The revival of the long-dormant Fatal Fury series came after publisher SNK was purchased by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, and it’s suffered from accusations of sportswashing ever since. Now, SNK and CotW are getting called out for releasing a trailer full of alleged AI slop. On Thursday, SNK released a trailer for Fatal Fury: CotW’s upcoming second season, which launches on January 22. The trailer promises a pretty robust release schedule for the game’s anniversary with monthly character drops over a six-month period. Returning characters Kim Jae Hoon, Nightmare Geese, Blue Mary, and Wolfgang Krauser are slated to join the game’s roster, too. However, the excitement of fan-favorites returning has been almost entirely overshadowed by the game’s latest trailer incorporating apparent AI-generated clips. “I’m stepping down after this trailer, I’m thankful for what you guys did for us and all but this is too much for me to deal with, this is against what I stand for,†a moderator wrote in their parting message to the official Discord server. It’s easy to see why. The AI stuff is just really, really ugly. The shots of cities feature skyscrapers with the most inconsistent windows I’ve ever seen, and something about the character introduction clips just looksâ€|very off. (It’s almost like SNK knew the clips looked bad because half of them are overlaid with big walls of text and graffiti-like flourishes.) It also just seems wildly inconsistent with the game itself. CotW has a pretty vibrant cel-shaded art style, and the trailer’s AI shots ignore that entirely for a false sense of edginess that looks pretty corny when juxtaposed with clips of colorful, cartoonish gameplay. The studio didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. SNK was purchased by the Saudi Public Investment Fund in 2022. Despite promises that the ownership change would have no impact, CotW doesn’t seem to have been exempt from the effects of this. The country’s sovereign wealth fund also owns Al-Nassr FC, and its soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo was later added to CotW as a playable character. It’s a shame because the game itself is decent. It even took home the Best Fighting Game award at this year’s Game Awards. SNK’s problematic ties to Saudi Arabia aren’t going anywhere in the future, but it could avoid making things worse by not piling gen AI junk on top of them. This also doesn’t bode well for Saudi Arabia’s other massive game purchase. It’s currently on track to own Electronic Arts by the end of the summer.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves announces second season with AI slop filled trailer
Many people were delighted when SNK announced last year that it would be reviving the Fatal Fury series after a two-decade hiatus. However, when Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves was finally released, the reception was mixed, with many also disliking the inclusion of football player Ronaldo as a guest character. Sales were so poor that the head of SNK resigned after the launch, but despite this (possibly backed by the Saudi prince's piggy bank, as the Mohammed Bin Salman Foundation owns SNK), it was decided to deliver a second season. It has now been presented in a trailer, but despite exciting new additions such as Blue Mary and Geese Howard, people are not happy at all. It turns out that SNK seems to have used AI to create the video, which according to Snaplytics YouTube Dislike Viewer has a overwhelming majority of negative reviews, with comments on YouTube such as: "When I'm in a "shoot yourself in the foot" competition and my opponent is SNK" "AI Geese, the real nightmare..." "All that Saudi money and can't pay someone a couple bucks to make real shit. Y'all are making this really hard to enjoy." "If you're all wondering why RAM prices is skyrocketing, AI slop like this is the reason" You can check out the trailer in its entirety below. What do you think about Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves and the use of AI to create content?
