Google Pixel phones have always had excellent software, but the elephant in the room was that Google hardware has been below par for the majority of its life cycle. In fact, I'd go as far as saying Google only finally got the hardware right last year with the Pixel 8 phones. Before that, there was always a glaring, significant hardware flaw of some kind, from the second Pixel's display problems to the third Pixel's hideous notch to the Pixel 6's dim display and Pixel 7's bad thermals. And even last year, the Pixel 8 hardware was nowhere near the best, it just wasn't bad. The hardware surged forward this year though with the Pixel 9, specifically the two Pro phones. I'm testing the larger XL model, but the smaller "just" Pro is the same phone save for having a smaller battery and screen. These Pro phones are easily the best hardware from Google yet, and they're good enough to go toe to toe against the best from Apple or Samsung without feeling behind. The screens finally have bezels as thin as the competition, and have impressive maximum brightness. The fingerprint scanner is fast and reliable, and the Tensor G4, while still slower than the best Apple or Qualcomm chip, has better thermals. The phone also has a new very iPhone-like design that I think looks and feels great. But, of course, hardware is only half the story. With the Pixel series, it's always about Google smarts, and the 9 Pro phones double down on the generative AI goodness introduced in last year's Pixel 8 series. However, a lot of these features (e.g. Circle to Search, using generative AI to make realistic-looking changes to photos) are also available on Samsung's Galaxy S phones. So in a way, the Pixel 9 Pro phones this year do not have any unique must-have software feature. About this review: This review was written after testing a self-purchased Pixel 9 Pro XL. The standard Pro starts at $999, while the Pro XL starts at $1,099. These prices represent a $100 increase from last year, and they are for the very stingy 128GB base storage. If you want more storage, you'll have to pay another $100 to get the 256GB version. There's also a 512GB model for another extra $100 on top. Compared to phones from Samsung and Apple, the Pixel 9 series is not as widely available worldwide. Google did this because it wanted to release a smaller flagship by comparison (the Pro comes with a 6.3-inch screen). The Pixel 9 Pro XL's new flat-sides design is very similar to the iPhone, and in fact, the in-hand feel between the 9 Pro XL and the iPhone 15 Pro Max is almost identical to me. The OLED screen is plenty sharp at 1344 x 2992 (though out of the box it is set to a lower resolution), and gets up to a maximum brightness of 3,000 nits. This is among the brightest panels on the market, and you'll definitely have no trouble seeing it under the sun. The bezels are slimmed down from last year's relatively thick bezels too. The Pixel 9 Pro XL has a matte glass back (covered by Gorilla Glass Victus 2 just like the display panel) and metal sides. I am not a fan of the glossy metal sides, but the rest of the phone looks and feels great. There's more RAM in the new phone this year (16GB) which, paired with the Tensor G4 chip with better heat management, brings improved performance over last year's model. Close There's 5,060 mAh battery inside, which is quite large, but it charges slowly at 37W wired or 23W wirelessly. Qi2 charging is not supported, but there are magnets around the back of the phone anyway for slower wireless charging, and I found my MagSafe chargers could attach to the Pixel and stay mostly still (doesn't quite snap on as satisfyingly as Qi2 would). Cameras Half of the Pixel 9 Pro's four total cameras are using new sensors: the selfie camera got the biggest hardware bump, from last year's weak 10.5MP to a 42MP f/2.2 shooter; and the ultra-wide camera this year has a faster f/1.7 aperture. The main and telephoto lens remain the same as last year: a 50MP f/1.7 main (wide) camera, and an f/2.8 5X Periscope zoom lens. And for the most part, images snapped with the main and tele lenses look identical to last year, but the selfie and ultra-wide are noticeably better, especially the former. Still, Google's software processing has improved, because videos are noticeably more stable than last year. Although this is merely Google playing catch up, because Pixel phones before had below par video stabilization when compared against the iPhone or best Samsung phones. Close Overall, though, the Pixel cameras produce images that should please most people, especially the average consumer. But for me, especially having tested the best Chinese phones with superior camera hardware, the Pixel's images appear a bit too over-processed, too digital. Images lack the depth of something captured by a Vivo X100 Ultra, especially in telephoto images (the Vivo zoom lens has a much larger sensor size). Google also tends to cool the color temperature of every image. The samples below are two sets of 5X shots captured by the Pixel 9 Pro XL (left) and the Vivo X100 Ultra (right), and Vivo's images are just far superior and natural looking, with more depth, more accurate colors. Close Compared against its main competition, the iPhone 15 Pro Max and Galaxy S24 Ultra, the Pixel 9 Pro XL produces shots that are generally a bit more pleasing to my eyes, but it's very close between these three phones. The second selfie in the below set was taken in a dark bar drenched in red lighting, and the shot came out cleaner than what the Vivo or iPhone could muster in the same scene. So, in the Pixel's intended market, it is definitely one of the top two cameras right now. It's very capable. But the reality is, the best Chinese phone cameras are so far ahead in hardware that software processing alone cannot close the gap. 2:27 Related Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra review: The most feature-packed, do-it-all phone in the world The Galaxy S24 Ultra's new AI features along with (slightly) improved camera system and build make for the most maximal, do-it-all phone Software and new features Because Google pushed up the release date of the Pixel by nearly two months, the Pixel 9 Pro XL ships with Android 14, not the Android 15 that's rolling out soon. This is also odd as I had become accustomed to testing new Pixels alongside new Android software. So, for the most part, the software experience here is similar to the Pixel 8 series, but there are some useful new AI features that are exclusive to the Pixel 9 series for now - but this is merely due to Google gatekeeping features on new phones to entice sales. The software experience is similar to the Pixel 8 series, but there are some useful new AI features The first is Pixel Studio, a standalone app which allows the Pixel phones to generate original images with text prompts, and it works very well. In the samples below, you can see the art generated is pretty aesthetically pleasing, and I like the option to generate in various styles, such as 3D art, pencil sketch, anime style, or 8-bit video game graphics. Pixel Studio generated AI art Right now, the service cannot generate humans (or I suppose, humans with faces showing, because I can generate images of Batman and Iron Man just fine). I know being able to create AI generated art isn't of use for everyone. I have many peers who see no value in this feature. I suppose it depends on the person, because I like this a lot. Some of the art generated above genuinely looks good to my eyes, and I would print them out to put as posters on my wall, or make greeting cards. For example, I have a nephew who loves Batman and 8-bit gaming. I could totally take the above image of Batman punching a bear in front of Apple Park and gift it to him as a card. The other big feature is similar to Pixel Studio, but with real-life images. This is a feature called "Reimagine" that's built into the Pixel's "Magic Editor." Here, you can take any image (even ones snapped years ago with another phone), highlight parts of the image, and change it to something else with voice prompts. Google is not allowing alteration of human faces and bodies, but you can easily change the background, objects, or add animals that are entirely AI-generated. They look quite realistic, at least when viewed on a phone screen or on Instagram. If you blow up the image on a 30-inch monitor, then you can see the usual AI mistakes. Close The Pixel 9 Pro XL also supports Gemini Live, which is a more advanced version of Gemini in which the assistant talks with you in a free-flowing conversation. You are able to speak to interrupt the assistant, and they will respond with new context. It's quite intelligent, but this is an app that is not exclusive to the Pixel 9 phones. This same feature should be available on older Pixels and Samsung phones eventually. Performance The Tensor G4 is only slightly more powerful than the G3, so it's no world beater. The chip is still a bit slow when it comes to handling anything image or graphics related. For example, trimming a video clip on the Pixel 9 Pro XL takes noticeably longer: the clip required a second or two of processing before I could begin trimming, and after I finished trimming, the exporting process seemed to take anywhere from 6-8 seconds, whereas iPhones do it instantly, and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 phones do it in roughly 2-3 seconds. This is not a dealbreaker at all, but it is just a fact that Tensor G4 is less powerful than the best chips in iPhones and other Android phones right now. I also find the Pixel's automatic screen brightness to be wonky. Often, when I'm indoors, the screen brightness drops to so low that images look dull. I use literally every flagship phone that hits the market and I don't have this problem with any other phone. Look at the below image: I took the iPhone and Pixel from outdoors to indoors, and the Pixel's automatic screen brightness dropped to such a low degree that the display looks noticeably dull. Over the course of using the phone, I find myself needing to manually dial up brightness a dozen times a day. I also think Pixel UI is a bit lacking in features. Virtually all other Android phones give us the option to open an app in a resizable floating window, but not the Pixel, which still only offers split-screen as the only form of multi-tasking. Split-screen is just more restricting and not as free-flowing as a window that I can shove anywhere on the screen. These are all relatively small nitpicks that don't break the overall usage experience. I find the Pixel 9 Pro XL still enjoyable to use, with excellent quality of life features like "Now Playing" (which ambiently identifies music playing near you), or the best-in-class voice dictation with nearly 99% accuracy. But these features are not new, they've been in Pixel phones for years. Battery life has been okay for me. I have to preface this by saying that I am a heavy phone user who is not tied to a desk most days. I am outside riding my bike, or walking all over the city 7-10 hours a day. I also snap a lot of photos and post to Instagram Reels often. With my usage, the Pixel 9 Pro XL can only last about nine to ten hours on a single charge before battery dips to under 10%, but most people will probably get much longer than that on a charge. This isn't particularly bad battery life to be honest -- especially considering I am a very heavy user -- but it is worse than the Galaxy S24 Ultra or iPhone 15 Pro Max battery life. But most people these days have battery packs on them, and living in a major city I can always find a charger middle of the day, so it's not a big deal to me. Should you buy the Pixel 9 Pro XL? You should buy the Pixel 9 Pro XL if: You love the Pixel experience and have the means to upgrade You want the smartest phone that's most aware of your surroundings and your Gmail inbox You have use for Google's scary good generative AI features You should NOT buy the Pixel 9 Pro XL if: You want a phone with the best raw power perfomance or battery life You want the best cameras on a phone and you're open to importing flagships from Vivo, Xiaomi, or Oppo (or if you just live in markets where those phones are on sale officially) You have the Pixel 8 Pro and find the phone perfectly fine The Google Pixel 9 Pro XL is an excellent all around phone, and is definitely one of the best phones money can buy right now. But I am not sure it stands out from existing competition like the S24 Ultra (which has many of Google's generative AI features). The price hike also makes it noticeably pricier than something like the OnePlus 12, which has a more powerful chip. I am a camera enthusiast with a love of mobile photography, so the fact the Vivo X100 Ultra or Xiaomi 14 Ultra are still clearly better means I will ultimately jump back to one of those phones. But for now, I really enjoy using a phone that is fully plugged into Google's software, with features like Circle to Search and superior connectivity with Gemini or Google Assistant making my life just a bit easier. Ultimately, the Pixel phones have always been mainly for casual consumers who want a charming, Apple-like phone without diving into Apple's walled garden. And the Pixel 9 Pro XL is it. For enthusiasts, I think the S24 Ultra still brings more to the table, and phones from Oppo/OnePlus or Xiaomi offer more hardware for the dollar. 5 reasons Pixel 7 Pro owners shouldn't wait to upgrade to the Pixel 9 Pro XL

Sony finally made an Xperia that's Xcellent, Xciting, and Xtreme(ly hard to buy) I don't usually recommend upgrading phones after less than two years. Most of the time, there isn't enough difference to warrant spending more money after such a short period. However, Google Pixel phones recently experienced a glow-up, with Google correcting many of the issues I had with previous generations. My Pixel 7 Pro still works fine, but I've seen worthwhile improvements with my Google Pixel 9 Pro XL, and I think enough of them might entice you to upgrade earlier than you planned. If you're tempted by the latest and greatest Pixels, let's talk about the five significant upgrades I've noticed between the two devices. 1 Battery life and charging It's much faster Pixel devices have struggled with battery life since the early days of Tensor. My Google Pixel 6 battery drained so quickly that I expected to see electrolyte fluid coming out of the charging port. The Pixel 7 Pro, powered by the Tensor G2, hasn't been awful, and I get about six hours of screen time with a single charge. However, Google did plenty of optimizing, and I get over eight hours of screen time with my Pixel 9 Pro XL. It's the difference between needing to top off before a night out or having enough battery to last the entire day. When it comes time to recharge, the Pixel 9 Pro XL has the advantage, as the Pixel 7 Pro includes Google's wired charging speed (23W). The Pixel 9 Pro XL doesn't set any land-speed records at 45W, but it's a noticeable upgrade, meaning you aren't stuck if you forget to plug in your Pixel overnight. 2 Tensor G4 and modem improvements No more random disconnections It's impossible to highlight the Pixel 9 Pro XL's battery life improvements without discussing the Tensor G4's upgrades. It's more power-efficient than previous generations and also more heat-efficient, thanks in part to its vapor chamber cooling system. I didn't experience much overheating with the Pixel 8 Pro running a Tensor G3, but I haven't had any heating issues with the Pixel 9 Pro XL. It's been excellent. Pixel 7 Pro users will also enjoy the Pixel 9 Pro XL's improved modem. I remember times when my Pixel 7 Pro would sit like a lost puppy when I was outside the 5G signal range, refusing to switch to 4G LTE like every other phone. I've had no issues with coverage and speed on my Pixel 9 Pro XL, alleviating the frustration I experienced with older Pixel phones. 3 Super Actua display I can see clearly now I must be fair to the Pixel 7 Pro. Its display isn't bad. It was brighter than previous generations, putting devices like the Pixel 4 XL to shame. However, it's nothing compared to Google's fantastic improvements with the Super Actua panels. While you'll rarely use the Pixel 9 Pro XL's full 3,000 nits of brightness, viewing a Pixel panel that can run at 75% brightness and be viewable outdoors is refreshing. If you decide to upgrade, your retinas will thank you. Circle to Search is slated for the Pixel 7 Pro, and Gemini Live is rolling out to Gemini Advanced subscribers as far back as the Pixel 6. However, Google almost didn't bring Gemini Nano to the Pixel 8, and it's clear the company considers older hardware (even the Tensor G2) a limitation. The Pixel 7 Pro has enough RAM, but I wouldn't expect the latest and greatest AI advancements to port over. Meanwhile, my AI experience on the Pixel 9 Pro XL has been excellent. I've used Gemini Live more than I thought I would. It's welcome to see AI move from the abstract into practical user experience enhancements. Google's AI tools are snappy on the Pixel 9 Pro XL, with Tensor G4 showing off its added horsepower over previous generations. With 16GB of RAM available, you can be confident more Gemini Nano features will roll out to your Pixel 9 Pro XL for years to come. 5 Software support More years, more features I was thrilled when Google moved to seven years of software support. Extended software support brings several benefits to the Pixel 9 Pro XL. Even if you don't keep your phone for seven years, it'll fetch more when it's time to resell. It also holds Google accountable for longer. The company must at least port and optimize new features and software to its older phones. The Pixel 7 Pro isn't running out of support tomorrow, but resetting the clock and getting yourself the Pixel software extras we know and love for a little longer is not a bad idea. I would be tempted The Pixel 9 Pro XL's improvements don't stop at this list. The fingerprint sensor deserves an honorable mention, as it's much faster and more reliable than the one fitted to the Pixel 7 Pro. No more pressing your thumb and hoping it'll read. The build quality also feels more refined, like a finished design. It's also worth noting these improvements have come to the smaller Google Pixel 9 Pro device. Don't get me wrong, the Pixel 7 Pro is still fantastic. So, keep your phone if you're happy with it, it's still in software support, and runs well. However, if you have the means, you'll notice material upgrades to the Pixel 9 Pro XL that offer an ointment for the various Pixel ailments fans have dealt with for years. Google Pixel 9 Pro XL The Google Pixel 9 Pro XL offers many improvements over the Pixel 7 Pro. It has much better battery life, thanks to improvements made to Tensor G4. It also sports much faster charging. The Super Actua display is gorgeous and noticeable compared to the Pixel 7 Pro panel. You're also picking up more extended software support. $1099 at Amazon$1099 at Best Buy Google Pixel 9 Pro If you're looking for much of the upgrade experience of the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL but don't want such a large device, the Pixel 9 Pro breaks the mold this year by offering a relatively compromise-free experience at a lower price point. Sure, it feels like an iPhone, but that's not necessarily bad. The design looks and feels premium, and the aluminum frame blends perfectly into the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the front and back. The lack of sharp corners makes the Pixel 9 and the 9 Pro comfortable to hold. Although the Pixel 9 and the 9 Pro are essentially the same shape and size, they have a couple of design differences. For example, the Pro model features a matte finish on the glass back and polished metal rails. The lack of either on the Pixel 9 is really a deal-breaker. The newer design comprises rounder elements, a flat mid-frame, and uniform colors on the sections of metal and glass. The Pixel 7 Pro felt equally enticing at the time of its launch. The interplay of dual tones, especially with the golden accents on the Hazel green back, seem charming. However, as with everything, fading novelty can create a gap for more modern designs, and the Pixel 9 Pro fits right in. While Google goes for rounder corners than the Pixel 7 Pro, the curved edges on the back and the screen have been replaced, following other premium phones such as the Galaxy S24 and the iPhone 15 Pro Max. How that affects usability may be subjective, but the Pixel 9 Pro looks fresher as a result. The finish of the design is as top-notch as it was back then, so we wouldn't really stress much about it. A bonus point goes to the Pixel 9 Pro for using the newer Corning's Gorilla Glass Victus 2. There are no cutbacks in durability, and all the new Pixel phones retain IP68 certification for protection against dust and water. The newer Pixel 9 Pro gets a lighter, more ergonomic footprint if you want the same features in a smaller size. Meanwhile, the Pixel 9 Pro XL offers some benefits, including a larger display as big as the Pixel 7 Pro's. If a bigger display is your priority, the next section details all the ways it has changed since the Pixel 7 Pro. Google Pixel 9 Pro vs. Pixel 7 Pro: display The Pixel 9 Pro series gets two options for display sizes -- a smaller 6.3-inch display on the Pro and a larger 6.8-inch display on the Pixel 9 Pro XL. The former is similar to the standard Pixel 9, while the latter is identical to the Pro variants in previous generations of Pixel phones. That means if you have the Pixel 7 Pro and are looking to upgrade to a similarly large-sized phone, the Pixel 9 Pro XL makes more sense. It's still as outstanding as it was before. While both sizes support different resolutions on the display, you can reduce it to 1080p, saving battery. You get LTPO tech underneath that allows for variable refresh rates, ranging between 1Hz and 120Hz. This, again, is implemented to ensure that faster refreshing doesn't suck out the battery when it's not needed to. Physically, Google has ditched the curved edges along the display as it has on the back of the Pixel 9 Pro. It has also replaced the iffy optical fingerprint scanner with an ultrasonic one, which is faster and much more accurate. You will need to choose the screen protectors for your Pixel 9 Pro more carefully to ensure the fingerprint scanner works properly. Google Pixel 9 Pro vs. Pixel 7 Pro: performance Google has armed the Pixel 9 Pro with a new Tensor G4 chip -- a definite upgrade over the Pixel 7 Pro's Tensor G2. Structural improvements over the G2 make the Tensor G4 thermally more efficient and, therefore, less prone to throttling issues. While there isn't a massive performance boost over last year's Tensor G3, the jump from G2 to G4 will be felt immediately. The GPU onboard is also more efficient. One thing that remains constant is the fact that Google is still using Samsung's flagship Exynos chips as reference instead of designing its own chips. Google's own addition comes in the form of the neural processing unit, which should elevate the experience while running AI-related tasks. Once again, the Pixel 9 Pro is probably not the most ideal gaming phone, and you should look elsewhere if you enjoy hardcore mobile gaming. However, it should more than suffice for less resource-intensive games. Google has also upgraded the RAM on the Pixel 9 Pro, upping it from 12GB previously to 16GB. The presence of extra RAM allows you to keep more apps open in the background. Notably, Google reserves roughly three gigs of the 16 for superfast AI processing. So, in essence, you are only getting an additional gigabyte of RAM. Irrespective, the change is welcome and should help the phone stay afloat over the next several years that Google promises to keep it up to date. On the Pixel 9 Pro, Google adds a 1TB storage option in addition to the existing 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB alternatives, all of which have the same RAM. The Pixel 9 Pro's more efficient chip, more RAM, and hardware allocated for AI will definitely offer a better performance than the Pixel 7 Pro. Google Pixel 9 Pro vs. Pixel 7 Pro: battery and charging The Pixel 7 Pro offered a decent one-day battery backup back when it launched, and not much has changed over the years. If anything, we expect the Pixel 9 Pro phones to last longer because of the more efficient Tensor G4 chip inside. There are, however, a few caveats to note. The two Pixel 9 Pro variants differ is in terms of their battery capacities and charging speeds. The smaller Pixel 9 Pro comes with a 4,700mAh battery while the bigger one comes with a 5,060mAh cell. The latter is identical to the battery capacity on the Pixel 7 Pro. Simultaneously, both Pixel 9 Pro phones come with faster charging than on the 7 Pro. The smaller one gets 27W wired and 21W wireless charging. On the other hand, the larger one charges much faster at 37W through a wired connection and 27W wirelessly. Notably, you would need a 40W charger for the Pixel 9 Pro. The same won't make the cut for the XL, and you would need to buy a brick with at least 45W output. The fast wireless charging speeds can only be achieved using second-gen Pixel Stand. Although Google promises 24-hour battery lives with both new phones, we managed to get longer backup during our respective reviews. So, that's another way the Pixel 9 Pro outweighs the 7 Pro. Google Pixel 9 Pro vs. Pixel 7 Pro: cameras Pixel phones derive their names from the camera, and have consistently impressed in this regard despite other deficits. The Pixel 7 Pro was able to capture incredible photos with all three cameras, and the Pixel 9 Pro only improves upon them. The Pixel 9 Pro gets an upgraded camera system, both on hardware and software levels. Though the primary 50-megapixel camera continues to use the same sensor inside, the lens has been upgraded with a faster aperture. The same goes for the 5x periscope telephoto, which also gets a wider aperture lens. Meanwhile, the ultrawide has been upgraded from 12MP to 48MP. So has the selfie camera, which now features a 42MP sensor in place of the 10.8MP earlier. All of these cameras, including the one on the front, come with autofocus capabilities. The cameras on the Pixel 9 Pro indisputably have an edge in terms of specifications. But in real life, the margin may not be far long. Reasons to buy the Pixel 9 Pro are instead backed by AI features that enhance photos you take with it. For instance, the Auto Frame feature will automatically position subjects in the center of frame using AI to generate some parts of the image. The fanciest of them all is Add Me, which seamlessly adds people missing from photos, resulting in unbelievably real-looking results. Google Pixel 9 Pro vs. Pixel 7 Pro: software and updates Pixels are considered the prime torchbearers of the Android experience, bringing the latest features before any other manufacturer (with exceptions for Samsung, in some cases). At the time of its launch, the Pixel 7 Pro was the first phone to run Android 13, but the experience was marred by a barrage of weird, unexplainable bugs, so much so that Digital Trends Mobile Editor Joe Maring called it one of the "buggiest and glitchiest smartphone" ever. Surprisingly, some of our team members faced these issues while others didn't. Several months later, Digital Trends' Mark Jansen still couldn't get rid of the bugs entirely, which made him wish he never bought the Pixel 7 Pro. The bugs continued to plague some units even after the Android 14 update last year. In comparison, the Pixel 9 Pro comes with a relatively stable user experience, and we haven't encountered any bugs so far. Interestingly, Google packaged it with last year's Android 14 instead of Android 15, which won't be available until October. Despite that, the Pixel 9 Pro comes with a host of AI features backed by Google's Gemini. This includes Pixel Screenshots, which stores context about screenshots and helps find them more quickly, a new Pixel Weather app, and other useful features such as Hold for Me for waiting on calls. Google also bundles a Pixel Studio app that uses AI to generate images, but the results in our case were unfiltered and quite concerning. Other than this, the Pixel 9 Pro performs flawlessly. More importantly, the Pixel 9 Pro gets seven years of promised Android updates while the Pixel 7 Pro only gets three -- Android 16 being its last. So, if you are looking to retain the phone for longer, the Pixel 9 Pro makes much more sense. Google Pixel 9 Pro vs. Pixel 7 Pro: price and availability The Pixel 7 Pro began at $899 at the time of its launch. While it has been officially delisted from Google's online store, you may still be able to buy some leftovers on Amazon or Walmart. Though we wouldn't recommend doing that -- the Pixel 8 Pro is a much better option if you want to buy an older Pixel for cheaper. Meanwhile, all the extra goodness on the Pixel 9 Pro comes at an additional cost. The smaller one starts at $999 while the Pixel 9 Pro XL is available at a starting price of $1,099. The phones are already available for sale, and you can get handsome trade-in benefits by exchanging your older Pixel. For instance, the Pixel 7 Pro with a 128GB storage brings in up to $540 of benefits presently. Google Pixel 9 Pro vs. Pixel 7 Pro: verdict The Pixel 9 Pro brings a plethora of new upgrades, especially in comparison to the Pixel 7 Pro. That does not necessarily mean you should chuck your old phone away, especially if it's working fine. This is also true if you bought the Pixel 7 Pro solely for its cameras, which are still aging well. However, if you have been yearning for a longer software update, a more striking design, and slightly better battery, upgrading to the Pixel 9 Pro is a no-brainer. Moreover, if you have been grappling with software issues or the slower fingerprint scanner on the Pixel 7 Pro, the upgrade makes even more sense.
