HP' OmniBook Ultra Features AMD Ryzen AI 300 APUs With Up To 55 NPU TOPs, Making It The Fastest "AI PC"
HP has unveiled the "world's highest-performance AI PC," the OmniBook Ultra, which features AMD's Ryzen AI 300 APU with up to 55 TOPs. HP is all set to show its dominance in the AI PC segment through its newest laptop release. The firm has been quiet for quite some time, amid competitors such as ASUS and Acer showcasing their AI PC-relevant offerings. However, it looks like HP has decided to break the silence, too, in style. The company has unveiled its most capable OmniBook Ultra AI PC laptop at the "Imagine AI" event held in New York last Thursday. At the event, HP showed immense optimism about the integration of AI into consumer products, claiming that it enables creativity for everyone. While the company didn't reveal the laptop's complete specifications, it did tout it as the "highest-performing AI PC" and disclosed that it features the power of AMD's Ryzen AI 300 "Strix" APUs. Since the focus was all on AI, HP did showcase the AI TOPS performance that they were able to squeeze out of the Omnibook Ultra, and according to the company, it managed to deliver 55 NPU TOPS which is 5 TOPS higher than the officially rated 50 TOPS of the same Ryzen AI 300 family. Stacking up the SoC in the HP OmniBook Ultra against competitors such as Apple's M4 chip, the NPU performance was reported to be 45% higher and almost double what M3 offers. HP says that with AMD's partnership, they have managed to create a device that offers the industry's fastest AI performance, and their OmniBook Ultra features a "co-engineered" design, which is why the Ryzen AI 300 chip delivers 55 TOPS of AI performance. It looks like HP managed to squeeze out extra NPU TOPS by clocking the AI engine higher while working with AMD. The HP OmniBook Ultra will also be certified under Microsoft's Copilot+ PC program. It will offer up to 21 hours of battery life and an HP AI Companion for a personalized experience. The laptop also offers a 2240 x 1400 resolution IPS LCD panel with up to 300 nits brightness. Interestingly, the OmniBook Ultra will offer Thunderbolt 4 connectivity as well, which makes it the first laptop within AMD's camp to feature the standard. In terms of pricing, the OmniBook Ultra will be available for $1,449.99 and is expected to be available by the beginning of August.

The OmniBook Ultra 14 is HP's first AMD-powered next-gen AI PC
Windows laptops are in a bit of transition thanks to the recent introduction of . However, that designation currently only applies to systems featuring Qualcomm's and . But now, with some help from AMD, HP's OmniBook Ultra 14 is packing even better AI performance in a thin and light chassis. Powered by AMD's Ryzen AI 300 series chips, the OmniBook UItra 14 is said to deliver up to 55 TOPS of AI performance, which is more than the 45 TOPS you get from the Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus' Hexagon NPU. HP claims this will support a range of new features including faster AI image generation, improved camera effects in video calls and more. Meanwhile for non-machine learning-related tasks, the OmniBook Ultra also sports an integrated Radeon 980 GPU. But perhaps most importantly, because AMD's Ryzen AI 300 silicon is based on x86 architecture, you won't run into app compatibility issues as you do with the existing crop of Arm-based Copilot+ PCs. That means you can play games like Fortnite and League of Legends whose anti-cheat systems have not yet been updated to work on Qualcomm's Snapdragon X chips. To help expand the OmniBook UItra's AI abilities, HP also created its own AI Companion app, which includes the company's Wolf Security system, an improved version of its Smart Sense performance optimization tool, support for Windows Studio Effects and Poly Camera Pro and more. Notably, HP says the laptop will also get a free update that will unlock all of Windows 11's current AI features like Image Creator and real-time transcription, which will make the OmniBook Ultra 14 an official Copilot+ PC. That said, there's no official timetable for when that patch will be available. As for the rest of the system, careful observers may have already noticed that the OmniBook Ultra sports a very familiar design. That's because unlike HP's Qualcomm-powered which was built using a brand new chassis, for its latest AI PC, HP reused the frame from one of its for the Ultra. This is why the notebook features those distinctive angled corners. The OmniBook Ultra also has two Thunderbolt 4 ports (a first for any AMD-powered HP laptop), one USB Type-A slot and a 3.5mm audio jack. And while both the OmniBook X and OmniBook Ultra are 14-inch systems, the latter features a larger 68 Wh battery (versus 59 Wh for the OmniBook X), resulting in a slightly bulkier device that weighs 3.5 pounds and measures 0.65 inches thick (compared to 2.98 pounds and 0.57 inches for the X). Unfortunately, at this point, it remains to be seen if AMD's new AI-focused chip can deliver the same level of longevity we've gotten from current Copilot+ PCs, though HP is touting around 13 hours of life in Mobile Mark and up to 21 hours of continuous video playback. The HP Omnibook Ultra is slated to go on sale sometime in August starting at $1,450.

AMD's new AI chips have a home in HP's next Copilot Plus laptop
If you buy something from a Verge link, Vox Media may earn a commission. See our ethics statement. HP's resurrected OmniBook line will soon be getting a performance boost with the new HP OmniBook Ultra featuring an AMD Ryzen AI 300-series processor with integrated AMD Radeon 800M graphics, up to 32GB of RAM, and a pair of 40Gbps Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports. Available starting in August for $1,449.99, the new HP Omnibook Ultra will eventually receive a free software update to make it one of the first Copilot Plus PCs not powered by an ARM processor. The OmniBook branding was originally revived back in May with the HP OmniBook X AI laptop which, as with most of the Copilot Plus PCs announced at that time, is powered by an ARM-based Snapdragon X Elite processor. Its neural processing unit was rated at 45 trillion operations per second (TOPS) but with the AMD Ryzen AI 300 series inside, the new OmniBook Ultra offers "up to 55 TOPS of NPU performance," HP says in a press release. The AMD Ryzen AI 300 seriesis also an x86-based processor which should offer more compatibility with a wider range of Windows apps. Some older applications may require emulation to run on a Windows PC powered by the Snapdragon X Elite or other ARM-based processors. Both OmniBooks feature 14-inch, 2,240 x 1,400-pixel LCD touchscreens, but the new Ultra model includes a handful of small updates. In addition to two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports (plus an older USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port) the Ultra's webcam gets a resolution bump to 9MP and quad speakers supporting DTS:X Ultra instead of just stereo speakers. The 3.48-pound OmniBook Ultra is also about half a pound heavier than the OmniBook X AI, due in part to a larger 68Wh battery. Despite the Ultra's battery being larger than the X AI's 59Wh battery, the OmniBook Ultra actually offers slightly less battery life, maxing out at up to 13 hours of average use or up to 21 hours of local (not streamed) video playback. The new OmniBook Ultra won't be a Copilot Plus PC at launch, but HP plans to release a free update at some point adding those features and functionality. HP says timing and availability for the update "will be dependent on Microsoft."

HP Intros 'World's Highest-Performance AI PC,' Pushing AMD Chip To New Heights
The PC and print giant says a 'deep co-engineering' partnership with AMD allowed it to push the limit for neural processing unit performance in its forthcoming OmniBook Ultra laptop, which will benefit a growing number of AI-enabled applications. HP Inc. is calling its newly revealed OmniBook Ultra laptop the "world's highest-performance AI PC," and to achieve that, the company said it engaged in a "deep co-engineering" partnership with AMD to push the computer's neural processing unit to new heights. The PC and print giant on Monday said that the 14-inch laptop, set for an August release, will use AMD's new Ryzen AI 300 series processors and push the processor's neural processing unit (NPU) to up to 55 trillion operations per second (TOPS), which will enable the PC to run AI workloads faster and more workloads simultaneously. [Related: HP Is Bullish on New Qualcomm PCs But Says Adoption Will Take Time] The consumer-focused OmniBook Ultra was part of a handful of announcements HP made at its Imagine AI event in New York last Thursday, where the company showcased several independent software providers, including Cephable and Zoom, who are taking advantage of the NPU to deliver new AI-enabled experiences available for AI PCs now or later this year. At the event, Alex Cho, president of personal systems at HP, said the integration of AI technologies within applications, operating systems and hardware systems represents a "huge shift" that will empower people, enabling "better decision making, better analysis and exceptional creativity available for everyone." "In this era, our vision is to make sure that people can unlock the power of AI and transform how they think about work and [how they are] connecting with other people and getting things done. And doing that not just to be more productive, but it's about being a catalyst for employee growth and more fulfilling work experiences," he said. With the OmniBook Ultra pushing 55 TOPS through the Ryzen AI 300 chip's NPU, it's pushing AI performance beyond the maximum 50 TOPS previously disclosed by AMD for the NPU within the new processor series, which also feature a CPU and GPU. According to HP, the OmniBook Ultra's NPU performance is 45 percent higher than Apple's recently launched M4 system-on-chip, which is available in the latest iPad Pro, and almost two times higher than the company's M3 chip, which is available in several Mac computers. It's also higher than the 40 TOPS NPU performance of Qualcomm's recently launched Snapdragon X processors, which power HP's new OmniBook X and EliteBook Ultra laptops. Cho called this a "unique" differentiator for HP and said it's part of a broader effort by the company to optimize various software and hardware components for its PCs. "We are curating the stack from silicon, BIOS, [operating systems], applications, I/O, etc. And doing that deep co-engineering with [AMD] allowed us to deliver a level of performance that is above the rest of the industry," he told CRN last Thursday. As for other features, the OmniBook Ultra supports up to 21 hours of battery life, the new HP AI Companion application for enabling greater productivity and AI-based system tuning, an AI-enabled high-resolution 9-megapixel camera, and, for the first time in an HP consumer laptop, the company's Wolf Security endpoint protection software. HP said the laptop will support Microsoft's Copilot+ PC experiences when an updated is available from the operating system giant. This is unlike HP's Snapdragon X-based EliteBook Ultra and OmniBook X laptops, which supported Copilot+ at launch. The new OmniBook and EliteBook laptops represent the second wave of AI PCs to come out from HP after the company in March debuted business laptops and mobile workstations that are part of what it called the "industry's largest" AI PC portfolio.

HP's OmniBook Ultra 14 gets AMD Ryzen AI 300 chips and Thunderbolt 4
HP is hedging its bets with Qualcomm by also using AI chips from AMD. HP just released its OmniBook X powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite chips, and now it's already got something more powerful: the HP OmniBook Ultra 14. The new laptop uses AMD's Ryzen AI 300 processors with 55 TOPS of AI performance (compared to Qualcomm's 45 TOPS NPU). The chips use integrated Radeon 900M graphics. The OmniBook Ultra is also HP's first consumer-grade laptop with an AMD processor and Thunderbolt 4 ports. In press photos, the laptop looks very similar to the OmniBook X. It has the same, 14-inch display with a 2240 x 1400 resolution, and the chassis looks almost identical down to the powder blue power button. The biggest difference is that the OmniBook Ultra has angled corners in the back, similar to the HP Spectre, which was until recently HP's prestige consumer brand. Size-wise, though the Ultra is heavier than the X at 3.48 pounds, has a larger battery at 68 watt hours, and is slightly thicker, deeper and wider. The port selection, with two USB Type-C ports, a USB Type-A port, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack is also identical to the Omnibook X, except that HP states that the OmniBook Ultra supports Thunderbolt 4. HP confirmed to Tom's Hardware that this is the company's first consumer notebook to support an AMD chip and Thunderbolt 4, famously overseen by Intel. HP has released EliteBooks with an AMD and Thunderbolt combo before. We're also interested to check out the 9MP webcam, which sounds particularly sharp. Battery life is an area that we'll want to keep an eye on. HP estimates up to 13 hours on MobileMark, but up to 21 hours on video playback. Other features include Wi-Fi 7 from MediaTek. Notably, at launch, the OmniBook Ultra won't be a Copilot+ PC. HP says that it will get a free software update to get those AI features "when available" from Microsoft. That isn't stopping HP from bundling its own AI features, including the HP AI Companion. HP changed its consumer laptops over to the OmniBook name in May, subsuming Pavilion, Spectre, and other consumer brands. Elite remains the name of the commercial portfolio. The HP OmniBook Ultra will go on sale at the beginning of August, starting at $1,449.99. A specific day hasn't been announced yet. We're excited to test this against the OmniBook X to see how the two compare. HP is also announcing new Intel Core Ultra-powered OmniStudio all-in-ones, which will also launch in August and will start at $1,149.99.

HP's new OmniBook Ultra is the first to promise 55 AI TOPS
Key Takeaways HP unveiled the new OmniBook Ultra with a custom AMD processor boasting an astounding 55 AI TOPS, which no other silicon vendor can beat. Galileo has been added to Z by HP AI Studio to improve AI accuracy with real-time hallucination detection, addressing common AI issues. The HP OmniBook Ultra features a sleek design inspired by Spectre x360, boasts exciting features including a low price starting at $1,449.99. Last week, HP held an event to preview its upcoming ASI technologies, committing to being a leader in the space. Among the announcements is the first flagship laptop from its OmniBook brand, the OmniBook Ultra. The product is promised to get up to 55 AI TOPS, and if you're recalling that no silicon vendor has announced a 55 TOPS chip, you're correct. That's not all it announced though. It's adding Galileo to Z by HP AI Studio, which is meant to detect "AI hallucinations". Anyone that's used AI knows how inaccurate it can be, so this should help. In fact, throughout the presentation, no silicon partner was even mentioned. It wasn't until a Q&A session where someone asked what's in it that Alex Cho simply said, "AMD". If you've followed along with AMD's Ryzen AI 300 launch, then you know that the company has promised 50 TOPS, and it's only announced the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and Ryzen AI 9 365. However, HP confirmed after a few more questions that 55 TOPS is exclusive. No other company is going to have this. And considering Qualcomm has 45 TOPS and Intel has 48 TOPS for roughly the next year, the OmniBook Ultra should have the lead in AI performance for some time to come (presumably, HP may use this chip in other products). The HP OmniBook Ultra borrows design elements from the Spectre x360, which tops our best laptops list, although it's not a convertible. If Ryzen AI 300 is all it's cracked up to be, this could be an exciting product. Aside from the AI performance, HP is adding Wolf Security, which has long been a staple of its business products. The bad news is that, as we know from Intel's Lunar Lake launch, Copilot+ doesn't support x86 processors yet, not that Copilot+ is anything to go out and buy a PC for, as we noted in our reviews. The HP OmniStudio X 27- and 31.5-inch All-in-One Desktop PCs HP has a couple new all-in-one PCs for its new Omni brand, but there's not as much to talk about here. They're powered by Intel's Meteor Lake chips, with optional RTX 4050 graphics. They'll both be available in August, starting at $1,149.99.

HP's OmniBook Ultra 14 will be the first AMD-powered Copilot + PC -- here's what you need to know
The recently released HP OmniBook X made an impressive debut for the resurrected OmniBook line. Soon it will have a potentially more powerful sibling in the newly announced HP OmniBook Ultra 14. When Microsoft revealed the Copilot + PC program back in May, AMD and Intel were conspicuously absent as the tech giant paired up with Qualcomm to utilize the company's Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus chips. AMD wasn't to be left behind as they quickly announced the Ryzen AI 300 series, which features 55 trillion operations per second (TOPS) of AI performance. For those keeping count, that's 10 more when compared to Qualcomm's 45 TOPS. AMD's chips will integrate with AMD Radeon 800M graphics. Whether or not the AMD AI Ryzen chip is as powerful as Qualcomm's remains to be seen. The newest OmniBook will be a laptop of firsts for HP. It will be the first Copilot+ PC to feature AMD's AI chip and the first HP consumer-grade laptop to run on an AMD processor with Thunderbolt 4 ports, as confirmed by our sister site Tom's Hardware. Despite the different naming conventions, the Ultra 14 looks quite similar to the OmniBook X. Both feature 14-inch displays with 2240 x 1400 resolution. The chassis appears identical, though the Ultra 14 has angled corners in the rear, which might remind you of the recently discontinued HP Spectre line. The Ultra 14 is a tad heavier than the X, coming in at nearly 3.5 pounds compared to the X's slimmer 2.97 pounds. In our battery test, the HP OmniBook X lasted for 16 hours and 22 minutes. The Ultra 14 is supposed to feature an even larger battery than the X, so we're excited to see how it fares in our tests. HP estimates 13 hours on MobileMark, and claims up to 21 hours of video playbook. The OmniBook Ultra 14 will feature two USB Type-C ports, a USB Type-A, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Again that's similar to the X, except that the Ultra is supposed to support Thunderbolt 4. The HP OmniBook Ultra 14 will go on sale at the beginning of August for a starting price of $1,449. HP has not released a specific day yet. We've heard that the OmniBook Ultra will not specifically be a Copilot+ PC at launch. Instead, HP will release a free update, with the timing and availability up to Microsoft, according to HP.
