Agentic AI workflows will dynamically determine the right sequence of operations, executed by specialized AI agents to achieve goals and complete tasks autonomously, with human direction and oversight. This is another giant step towards done-for-you experiences, fueling the success of consumers and businesses. For example: Automating cash flow management tasks - agentic AI-powered workflows are in production now in limited release for dynamically processing accounts receivable and accounts payable (AR/AP) tasks. This includes processing of relevant customer artifacts, including user-submitted images, documents, and emails, and then orchestrating any necessary follow-up AR/AP specific actions to specialized AI agents (e.g., invoice processing agent, bill creation agent) for the customer's review. These AI agents handle specific tasks, completing the customer's workflow with precision and efficiency. By automating routine administrative activities, the business owner can focus on what matters most: growing their business. This capability is expected to be generally available in late 2024.Streamlining small business customer speed-to-benefit - agentic AI systems with specialized agents will rapidly enable new customers to realize immediate benefits of Intuit's products. One example of this is an onboarding agent that searches for and automatically populates publicly available information about a customer's business during onboarding to minimize manual data entry, save time, and enable them to experience product benefits faster. This capability is expected to be in production in early 2025.Blending the best of developer expertise with agentic AI - agentic AI is creating unprecedented levels of efficiency and velocity for developers and experts. One example of an agentic AI use case is automated conversion of annual U.S. and state tax code updates into tax content for review by Intuit developers and experts (tax and bookkeeping). This capability will begin to roll out in early 2025 for the upcoming tax season.Dynamically providing personalized answers and insights - an advanced conversational system sitting on top of Intuit's platform will power rich and responsive customer engagements across a variety of topics via a collection of specialized AI agents, mapped to various underlying platform capabilities. For example, answering product help questions, providing finance and compliance information (e.g., when taxes are due), producing reports and insights about how a small business is operating, and assisting with guidance and brainstorming. This capability is expected to begin rolling out by mid-2025. Intuit is actively exploring new experiences ideally suited for agentic AI to address complex business workflows, among them: a collection of customizable agents equipped to manage a breadth of tasks across the company's platform and products (tax, accounting, marketing, personal finance). Intuit will introduce agentic artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities in December and continue rolling them out throughout 2025. The company will add these capabilities across its platforms and products, including Intuit TurboTax, Credit Karma, QuickBooks and Mailchimp, Intuit said in a Wednesday (Sept. 25) press release. "Agentic AI represents a transformative leap in technology, with the potential to unlock unprecedented levels of efficiency for our customers, human experts and developers," Alex Balazs, chief technology officer at Intuit, said in the release. The new agentic AI systems will work on behalf of consumers and businesses while providing personalized insights and recommendations and offering access to human tax and bookkeeping experts whenever needed, according to the release. The systems will complete tasks autonomously via specialized AI agents, with human direction and oversights, thereby eliminating the need for consumers and businesses to perform routine tasks, the release said. Examples of the agentic AI use cases include automating accounts receivable (AR) and accounts payable (AP) tasks, streamlining the onboarding of small business customers who are new to Intuit's products, and providing personalized answers and insights about Intuit's products or the small business customer's operations, per the release. "Given Intuit's decade-long investments in data and AI -- and our GenOS GenRuntime agent framework -- we're well on our way to delivering on the promise of seamless, connected, done-for-you customer experiences," Balazs said in the release. Agentic AI is positioned to take the capabilities of an automated software program to the next level -- a request-action architecture -- by conducting business from start to finish without the need for human intervention, PYMNTS reported in February. When applied to payments, for example, agentic AI software can automate routine and repetitive tasks like invoicing processing, data entry and transactional reconciliation, while reducing the likelihood of errors associated with manual processes. Intuit has already rolled out some other AI-driven offerings, including a generative AI-powered financial assistant that delivers personalized financial insights. This AI assistant is available to millions of consumers and about 1 million small and mid-market businesses. Intuit's new agentic AI features, currently in testing, are set to launch for end users in mid-2025. Using agentic AI to automate complex tasks for businesses Intuit is focusing on practical applications that address real-world challenges faced by businesses. Srivastava highlighted cash flow management as a key initial use case for Intuit's new agentic AI workflows. The ability of any business to be able to pay its bills on time is a critical task. The challenge is often whether the business has sufficient cash flow during a specific period. The new agentic workflows can process various types of customer information, including emails, documents and images, to automate accounts receivable and payable tasks. "It allows us to automate the accounts receivable and accounts payable tasks and merge together several things," he explained. That said, Srivastava emphasized that there is still a role for human oversight in the process. "We want to have human expertise involved with it," Ashok stated. Bringing new insights and transparency with agentic AI Beyond cash flow management, Intuit is developing capabilities to provide dynamic insights into business finances. "We're creating dynamically produced insights and answers to customer questions using an advanced conversational system that sits upon GenOS," Srivastava said. "It's allowing me to get insights into what my financial situation is, what my tax situation is, compliance information and really helping me understand the financial domain." As AI becomes more integral to business operations, concerns about security, transparency, and environmental impact have grown. Intuit has taken proactive steps to address these issues. The GenSRF (Security, Risk and Fraud) module in the GenOS framework plays a crucial role in ensuring responsible AI development. GenSRF works alongside the Gen Runtime component of GenOS to ensure AI safety. "It (GenSRF) has built-in guardrails to help responsible development of generative AI applications, it's extensible and configurable, and it allows us to embed safety, privacy, transparency, security controls directly in the experience," Srivastava said Looking to the future, Intuit plans to continue enhancing GenOS and launching new capabilities based on customer feedback. A key focus will be integrating traditional AI with generative AI technologies. "When you look into the rest of the world, they're solely focused, it appears to me, at least on what is happening in the generative AI and agentic AI spaces, which is understandable," Srivastava said. "We are doing the comprehensive understanding and development of traditional AI capabilities that are really going to transform how our customers have work done for them."
