Terminator Zero presents a violent and hardcore world in first trailer
Netflix has been teaming up with the animation experts over at Skydance and Production I.G. to create an anime take on the world of Terminator. It's set to be known as Terminator Zero, and as we told you last week, the first trailer for the series has now been released. The show is a time-travelling story that explores how the war for humanity has reached a near conclusive point in the year 2022, all while also seeing how one person is looking to change this outcome by going back in time to 1997 when Skynet officially becomes sentient. The show, while having a familiar story and being an official Terminator story that's part of the wider lore, will feature new characters and centre around individuals we haven't met yet. You can see the trailer for Terminator Zero below, and read its synopsis, all ahead of its debut on Netflix on August 29, 2024. Synopsis: "2022: A future war has raged for decades between the few human survivors and an endless army of machines. 1997: The AI known as Skynet gained self-awareness and began its war against humanity. "Caught between the future and this past is a soldier sent back in time to change the fate of humanity. She arrives in 1997 to protect a scientist named Malcolm Lee who works to launch a new AI system designed to compete with Skynet's impending attack on humanity. As Malcolm navigates the moral complexities of his creation, he's hunted by an unrelenting assassin from the future, which forever alters the fate of his three children."

Terminator: Zero Debuts its First Trailer Just In Time for Armageddon
Netflix has released a trailer for its new Terminator anime series from Skydance, Production I.G, Masashi KudÅ and Mattson Tomlin. Netflix has released a trailer for its new Terminator anime series from Skydance, Production I.G, Masashi KudÅ and Mattson Tomlin. Take a look: Starring the voices of Timothy Olyphant, Rosario Dawson, Sonoya Mizuno, André Holland and Ann Dowd, Terminator: Zero concerns scientist Malcolm Lee (the world's oldest-looking 32-year old man) after developing an AI to compete with Skynet. Since this is a Terminator story, "Lee finds himself and his three children pursued by an unknown robot assassin." Luckily, "a mysterious soldier from the year 2022 has been sent to protect him." While the trailer doesn't reveal too much, no one could claim it doesn't look like another entry in the Terminator franchise. Androids missing half their faces, nuclear armageddon, a cool-looking heroine- it's all here. That said, the trailer does include the striking new image of a T-800 wearing a parka- as well as a smaller cave search-and-rescue robot dressed in a yellow rain slicker. Caves are very moist, so it could absolutely use something to protect its inner workings from condensation and seepage. I love that. Anyway, as the trailer promises "this isn't what you think it is," I'm sure its only meant to present a false sense of familiarity before pulling the rug out from under us with a brand-new, subversive take on some very familiar material. However, as the trailer also states, "there's no going backâ€"not really." So who's to say yet? Come what may, the series premieres this August 29th (that's Judgement Day, of course, according to Terminator 2) only on Netflix.

Dystopian anime Terminator Zero annihilates civilization in its first trailer
Toussaint Egan (he/him) is a curation editor, out to highlight the best movies, TV, anime, comics, and games. He has been writing professionally for over a decade. On Monday, Netflix released the first official trailer for Terminator Zero, the upcoming anime series set in the Terminator universe. Produced by Skydance Entertainment and Production I.G (Ghost in the Shell, Psycho-Pass), the series takes place after the events of 1991's Terminator 2: Judgment Day and centers on Eiko (Sonoya Mizuno), a soldier sent back in time to protect the life of Malcolm Lee (André Holland), a scientist developing an artificial intelligence that could threaten the genocidal ambitions of Skynet, the malicious A.I. responsible for waging war on humanity. To do so, she'll have to fend off a Terminator (Timothy Olyphant), a robotic assassin sent to ensure that Skynet's plans go off without a hitch. As you can probably guess, the trailer features a ton of visual callbacks to the original Terminator film and Judgment Day, including shots of a nuclear explosion engulfing a city, an assembly line of T-800 endoskeleton faceplates, a person being transported via a time field generator, and a Terminator tinkering with the machinery beneath the exposed flesh of its forearm. The footage looks appropriately dark and explosive, with Eiko running through a blood-splattered hallway and firing at a gas canister to fend off an advancing Terminator. It'll be interesting to see how this new animated chapter in the Terminator franchise will build on, and complicate, the very dense (see: confusing) chronology of the films, which focus on the lives of John Connor and his mother Sarah as they attempt to survive a robotic assassin sent from the future to prevent her from leading a successful resistance against its machine masters.

Late last year, we heard Netflix was working with both Skydance and Production I.G on a new animated series based on Terminator - now, we can finally see it in action in this trailer. And not only is the release date pretty soon, it's also a nice in-universe reference.August 29th, as any T2 fan can tell you is the date Skynet launched the nukes that became known as Judgment Day. Of course, that Judgment Day took place in 1997, so it's technically the 27th anniversary of the Judgment Day that was hypothetically prevented in that timeline . Anyway, In the animated series, we'll be introduced to a slew of new characters, including one Malcolm Lee, who apparently is a scientist working to launch an A.I. to rival Skynet's impending attack on humanity. The series will jump from 2022 to 1997, the future events and those that took place in the past. #NetflixAnime
