However, last year, the OnePlus Nord 3 also created a buzz among tech enthusiasts with its Mediatek Dimensity 9000 chipset, impressive camera performance and lightning-fast charging. Therefore, we must get an in-depth understanding of what the OnePlus Nord 4 brings to the market in comparison to last year's Nord 3 smartphone. Additionally, Nord 4 is one of the most durable Nord-series smartphones with an IP65 rating, a Glass front, an aluminium back, and an aluminium frame. On the other hand, the Nord 3 comes with a Dragontrail Glass front, Gorilla Glass 5 back, and a plastic frame. The smartphone measures 162 x 75.1 x 8.2 mm and weighs 193.5 grams. The OnePlus Nord 3 has received an IP54 rating for dust and splash resistance. It comes with a basic dual-camera setup and other power and volume buttons, a USB-C port, a mute button, and others. In terms of display technology, the OnePlus Nord 4 sports a 6.74-inch Fluid AMOLED display with up to 120Hz refresh rate and 2150nits of peak brightness. It offers 1B colours, HDR10+ content, 1240 x 2772 pixels, 450 ppi density, and Ultra HDR image support. Whereas, the Nord 3 comes with similar display specs, however, it offers 1450 nits of peak brightness and 451 ppi density. OnePlus Nord 4 comes with a new camera module consisting of two camera sensors. The dual-camera setup includes a 50 MP main camera with f/1.8 sensor size and 25mm focal length. The main camera also comes with OIS and EIS support. It features an 8 MP ultra-wide camera with a Sony sensor and a 112-degree field of view. On the front, the smartphone features a 16MP selfie camera. If we take a look at the OnePlus Nord 3 smartphone, then it also comes with a triple camera setup which consists of a 50 MP main camera with f/1.8 sensor size and 24mm focal length. The other two sensors consist of an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP macro camera. Additionally, the smartphone features a 16MP front-facing camera. For long-lasting performance, the OnePlus Nord 4 is equipped with a 5500 mAh battery and comes with 100W SuperVOOC fast charging support. It comes with a new design and AI technology and brings considerable upgrades to the hardware specifications department over its predecessor. The OnePlus Nord 4 features a metal body with a dual-tone finish. With each shade, you get a different finish, offering a premium look. While we're yet to test the OnePlus Nord 4, we have a good idea of how the device will perform. It packs the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 SoC under the hood that you get with the Realme GT 6T (review). During our testing, this SoC managed to secure 14,50,949 points on AnTuTu, 1,826 points in the single-core test with 4,544 points in the multi-core test on Geekbench. On the other hand, the MediTek Dimensity 9000 SoC at the helm of the Nord 3 scored 8,45,270 points on AnTuTu, 984 points in the single-core test and 3,284 points in the multi-core test on Geekbench. The OnePlus Nord 4 should deliver better performance than the OnePlus Nord 3 based on these benchmark results. Both devices feature a 50MP main and an 8MP ultrawide lens. The OnePlus Nord 4 comes with a new Sony LYTIA primary sensor compared to the Sony IMX 890 sensor that you get with the Nord 3. We're yet to test the camera performance of this new sensor so wait for our in-depth review to learn more about it. However, you can expect similar if not better camera results with the Nord 4 as it also has a 50MP shooter which should deliver high-resolution and detailed snaps. Moreover, both phones feature a 16MP selfie shooter at the front, so expect a similar result. The OnePlus Nord 4 has a slightly bigger 5,500mAh battery capacity and supports a faster 100W charging speed than its predecessor's 5,000mAh cell with 80W charging. In our testing, the Nord lasted for 13 hours and 50 minutes in the PCMark battery test and took around 50 minutes to fully charge the device. You can expect a slightly better battery backup and faster refuel time with the OnePlus Nord 4 compared to the Nord 3. The OnePlus Nord 4 runs on the latest Android 14-based OxygenOS out of the box, while the Nord 3 boots Android 13-based OxygenOS, but can be upgraded to the latest version. OnePlus promises four years of Android OS updates and six years of security patches with the Nord 4. In comparison, the Nord 3 will only get three major OS releases and four years of security updates. The Nord 4 will get OS updates until Android 18, while the Nord 3 will only get software releases until Android 16. Besides this, you also get a few camera and photography-released AI features with the OnePlus Nord 4. Overall, the OnePlus Nord 4 offers considerable upgrades over its predecessors, making it worth upgrading. It has a better display, superior SoC, bigger battery, and faster charging speed, and offers more software updates than the OnePlus Nord 3. However, the OnePlus Nord 3 still offers respectable hardware specifications with better display protection and an additional macro shooter.

OnePlus Nord 4 Feels Nostalgic, But Is It Desirable?

The OnePlus Nord 4 is being marketed as the "first 5G phone with an all-metal body," evoking a sense of nostalgia. After all, we've transitioned from metal phones to glass slabs over the past decade. OnePlus went back to the drawing board for the Nord 4, and the result feels fantastic. Plus, there's more to the Nord 4 than its design; it features a large display, an upgraded processor, and more. Most of these upgrades contribute to a wonderful experience. I've been using the device for the past five days, and here are some key takeaways. The OnePlus Nord 4 features a dual-tone design with matte finish in three colors: Obsidian Midnight, Mercurial Silver, and Oasis Green. The Midnight option looks classy, while the Silver has a patterned finish, which you can't feel on touch but can only see. I have the Green model, which I like the most. OnePlus has repositioned the dual-camera setup in a OnePlus 5-like (but larger) horizontal placement. The Nord 4 has a distinct personality that I really like. Unlike other 5G phones that use glass, the OnePlus Nord 4 is made of metal. Based on my experience with the OnePlus 3T, metal phones are generally more resistant to scratches and drops than glass ones. I expect the Nord 4 to have similar durability and longevity. The unibody design feels great in the hand as well. While I wish it were lighter, it doesn't feel like a 200-gram phone. You get a 6.74-inch AMOLED display with a 1.5K resolution, 2,150 nits peak brightness, and a 120Hz refresh rate. It's a big, bright and vibrant screen. I need more time for a full verdict, but you're likely to enjoy consuming content on the OnePlus Nord 4. It's bright enough to remain legible under direct sunlight. Like the OnePlus 12, the Nord 4 features AquaTouch technology on the display that prevents false touches from water droplets. The new OnePlus phone is also IP65 rated for dust and water resistance, allowing you to use it in light drizzle. I haven't experienced any stutters or slowdowns. It packs a 5,500mAh battery with support for 100W fast charging. Over the past five days, the phone has easily lasted through the day. I expect Google Maps and Camera apps usage to drain the battery but I was comfortable leaving the power bank behind when using the OnePlus Nord 4. However, it lacks wireless charging support. The battery is rated to survive more than 1,600 charging cycles, which translates to about four years of use while retaining over 80% of its capacity, according to OnePlus. The company is also providing its longest-ever software support package for a Nord phone with this new device. The OnePlus Nord 4 will receive four years of Android OS updates and six years of security updates. With its metal design, long-lasting battery, and extended software support, I expect the Nord 4 to last you for years to come. Almost all 2024 smartphones come with "AI features," and the OnePlus Nord 4 is no exception. The company claims that its AI Linkboost will help you reconnect to your mobile network "faster than ever," while you also get the usual Note Summary, Audio Summary, and Text Translate AI features. The Nord 3 had three cameras on its back but OnePlus has dropped the macro shooter in favor of a 50MP primary + 8MP ultrawide configuration. I am pleased to see the no-nonsense approach in cameras. The photos captured in daylight are impressive, offering good dynamic range and plenty of detail. Even in indoor lighting, the primary camera performs better than expected. While the Portrait mode gets edge detection right, the processing tends to make the bokeh feel artificial. Overall, the images are social media-worthy, but the Nord 4 could benefit from more natural-looking bokeh processing. The colors are consistent across the two lenses. I prefer having a telephoto lens over an ultrawide camera but the shots up to 5x digital zoom look great. Overall, I like the images I got from the OnePlus Nord 4. These are good cameras. The OnePlus Nord 4 starts at 29,999 Indian Rupees, facing plenty of competition at this price point. For instance, the Moto Edge 50 Pro offers a third camera in the form of a telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and wireless charging support. However, the Nord 4's battery life is better. If you're looking for a phone for gaming, the Poco F6 is an excellent choice with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. That said, if you want a OnePlus phone around the 30,000 Indian Rupees mark, the OnePlus Nord 4 is a solid device for day-to-day use. It features a sharp display, smooth performance, long-lasting battery life and years of software support in a comfortable design.
