The OnePlus Pad 3 tablet is still perfect for play and still awkward for work
Sheena Vasani writes about tech news, reviews gadgets, and helps readers save money by highlighting deals and product recommendations for The Verge. When OnePlus first introduced its tablet to the world, it impressed with high-end specs at an affordable price. Now, with the OnePlus Pad 3, the company is refining that formula. This latest model brings modest hardware upgrades -- including a larger, sharper display, a bigger battery, and an updated smart keyboard -- along with meaningful software improvements that help it inch closer to rivals like Samsung and Apple. Yet the verdict remains largely the same: it's an excellent Android tablet for entertainment, and just okay for light productivity. But at $699.99, $150 more than the original, it raises the question: does it still offer the same value? A year ago, my answer might've been no. But in today's climate of tariffs and rising costs across the board, the Pad 3 still holds its own -- especially against similarly specced competitors like the $749.99 Galaxy Tab S10 FE. Whether it's the right buy for you ultimately depends on what you want out of your tablet. The OnePlus Pad 3 features a larger 13.2-inch LCD display with a slightly sharper 3392 x 2400 resolution, making movies and shows look more vibrant. It's housed in a slimmer, flatter aluminum frame that's easier to carry, though at 675g, it's heavier than the 13-inch iPad Pro and too cumbersome to hold comfortably for long reading or viewing sessions. The new eight-speaker system -- featuring four woofers and four tweeters positioned around the device -- is even louder, delivering a more immersive audio experience for YouTube, games, and streaming. OnePlus has also improved battery life with a slightly larger 12,140mAh cell. The battery dropped just 15 percent after a couple of hours with two apps and a couple of tabs open, suggesting it can easily last more than a day. OnePlus says it can charge from 0 to 100 percent in 92 minutes, with a 10-minute top-up delivering 18 percent. In my testing, it charged from 20 percent to 80 percent in 76 minutes, going up by 20 percent within 20 minutes -- nearly as fast as promised, and still impressive. Most users likely won't notice a huge leap from the Pad 2. The experience is more iterative than game-changing -- but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The 7:5 aspect ratio was still ideal for reading Adam Grant's Think Again, while the 144Hz refresh rate ensured smooth visuals while I caught up on the last season of You and played games like Asphalt Legends and Block Blast! The screen still tops out at 900 nits, making it usable outdoors. Under the hood, the Pad 3 retains the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, with options for 12GB RAM and 256GB storage or 16GB RAM and 512GB. Performance is snappy and more than sufficient for most users. The OnePlus Pad 3 ships with OxygenOS 15, the company's operating system based on Android 15, and it's here where the most interesting improvements lie. OnePlus' software has trailed behind rivals like Samsung, Google, and Apple, but OxygenOS 15 represents a significant step forward, particularly for light productivity. One of the most notable upgrades is how well the Pad 3 now plays with Apple devices -- a rarity in the Android world. It supports screen mirroring and easy sharing of files and live photos with Macs or iPhones, making it especially appealing for mixed Apple-Android households. As an Apple user, I found the Mac Remote Control feature surprisingly useful (when it actually worked, which I'll dive into shortly), as it lets you view and control your laptop or desktop in real time, transfer files between devices, and access PC files remotely from the tablet. Setup is straightforward: download the O+ app for Mac or Windows, sign into your OnePlus account, and ensure all devices are on the same Wi-Fi network. Once configured, the connection is quick, though not always consistent. At the time of writing, I've struggled to reconnect my MacBook Air. Input lag and a slightly blurry mirrored display make this feature less ideal for media or video calls (especially since the Pad 3's 8MP front camera underwhelms), but it remains useful for turning the tablet into a secondary display or quickly accessing files without relying on cloud storage or messaging apps. It also made it easier for me to use the Pad 3 over my laptop for more tasks, reminding me of Samsung's DeX -- though OnePlus' version requires an internet connection, unlike DeX, which works offline with just a cable. OxygenOS 15 also supports Google's AI tools. Circle to Search is finally onboard, letting you instantly look up anything on screen with a gesture. Google's Gemini Assistant is easily accessible via the power key or a dedicated Smart Keyboard shortcut. Other features feel basic but genuinely helpful, from writing tools that polish your text to a voice note cleanup feature that strips filler words from transcripts while preserving your original audio. OnePlus also added basic photo editing tools like AI Detail Boost and reversible edits, making photo retouching easier. The Pad 3 still falls short for serious productivity. While the larger screen and Open Canvas multitasking system -- which debuted on the Pad 2 -- let you run up to three apps side by side or stack and float them (something I found especially helpful when reading and taking notes), the overall experience remains limited by Android software constraints. A lot of Android apps -- Slack and Airtable, for example -- still aren't optimized for large displays. Beyond new features, OnePlus' software stands out thanks to a much-improved update policy -- making the Pad 3's price hike a bit easier to swallow. It now comes with three Android version updates (starting with Android 15) and six years of security patches, two more years than the Pad 2 offered. That makes it a safer long-term investment. Still, Samsung promises seven years of OS and security updates for the Tab S10 FE Plus, so for a tablet at this price, it'd be nice to see OnePlus go even further. Finally, like its predecessor, the Pad 3 can be purchased with a set of accessories. The unchanged Stylo 2 stylus works just as well as before, but to accommodate the tablet's larger size, you'll need the $199 Pad 3 Smart Keyboard or the $49.99 Pad 3 Folio Case. The latter feels very similar to the previous version, but the Smart Keyboard sees more noticeable changes. It now features larger keys that make for a more enjoyable typing experience, along with useful extras like a built-in NFC receiver for quick file sharing and a dedicated key to launch Google's Gemini AI assistant. While the keyboard was great for typing emails, it's not ideal for heavy work. My main issue was the trackpad -- though roomy, it often disrupted productivity by making text selection difficult and frequently triggered unintended shortcuts, like accidental screenshots. The keyboard's stability also needs improvement; it still connects via pogo pins, which work well on a desk but feel unstable on your lap. Thankfully, Bluetooth support lets you detach and use it wirelessly. The OnePlus Pad 3 is even better suited for binge-watching, reading, streaming music, and light multitasking than before. The improved software update policy also makes it more future-proof. Software limitations prevent it from being a true laptop replacement or productivity powerhouse, but then again, few tablets are.

OnePlus Pad 3 Android Tablet Arrives With Your First Chance to Try Its New AI
There are very few brands making flagship Android tablets, but OnePlus is keeping up the momentum with its third new slate in as many years. The OnePlus Pad 3 aims to be a top-end alternative to the best iPads and Samsung Galaxy tablets. The company is betting big on the Pad 3 with the tagline of "2025's must-have tablet." The tablet comes with a new and improved 13.2-inch LCD display in a 7:5 aspect ratio. It has a resolution of 3,392 by 2,400, equaling 315ppi, and an adaptive refresh rate up to 144Hz. OnePlus has improved the speakers with four woofers and four tweeters, which are each placed strategically around the tablet to give what it calls a "truly immersive audio experience." OnePlus says audio will adapt depending on how you're holding the Pad 3. There's a top-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset inside, which the company already used in its OnePlus 13. There's a 12,140mAh battery powering the Pad 3, which beats the OnePlus Pad 2's 9,510mAh cell. We liked the battery life on that tablet a lot, so it should mean even better results on the Pad 3. OnePlus says this new tablet can run for up to 70 days in standby mode, meaning it's designed for you to put it down at intervals and find it still has juice when you pick it up again. There's AI, Of Course The Pad 3 is the first product to debut in the US with the company's new OnePlus AI tech onboard. That includes the company's new bookmarking tool called Plus Mind that allows you to screenshot web pages or other apps and return to them at a later date. AI will give you a summary of what it has seen, too. Other AI features onboard include improved translation apps, AI Reframe to suggest cropping for photographs, and an improved face replacement tech to switch faces out for other pics when someone doesn't look right in a photo. The brand has also improved its Open Canvas feature. This is designed to help with multitasking, allowing you to use up to three separate apps across the display. Improvements here include better drag-and-drop functionality as well as split-screen suggestions. If the Pad 3 notices you flicking between two apps on a regular basis, the tablet will now suggest you use split screen and set it up quickly if you say you want to use it. The OnePlus Pad 3 costs $699.99 for 256GB of storage and 12GB of RAM. You can preorder the tablet directly from OnePlus today, and it'll go on sale on July 8. There's also a higher-spec version with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, but OnePlus has yet to reveal a price or release date in the US. Other accessories to go alongside the Pad 3 include a new keyboard, a new stylus, and a case with a built-in kickstand so it stays upright when you're watching your tablet on the go. OnePlus Pad 3 Shoves a Massive Battery Into Its Super-Skinny Tablet Frame
Unlike Apple and Samsung, OnePlus is making thinner devices with bigger batteries, not skinnier ones with less juice. OnePlus is not playing around this year. Just like its well-received OnePlus 13 flagship Android phone released earlier this year, the main selling point for the new OnePlus Pad 3 tablet is its huge battery. The 5.97mm-thick OnePlus Pad 3 has a 12,140mAh batteryâ€"up from 9,510mAh in the previous OnePlus Pad 2. I don't know about you, but I like that OnePlus is packing in larger batteries while slimming down its devices, not the other way around. Oh, and an 80W fast-charging brick is included in the box, which is just a cherry on top. Feature-wise, the OnePlus Pad 3 sounds solid on paper. The screen is a larger 13.2-inch screen with a 3.4K resolution and 144Hz refresh rate versus the 12.1-inch display on the OnePlus Pad 2. Under the hood, the tablet is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite chip and comes with 256GB of storage and 12GB of RAM. OnePlus also increased the six speakers on the OnePlus Pad 2 to eight on the OnePlus Pad 3; a new "Holo Audio" feature lets you fiddle with spatial audio for various apps like alarms. As with all of OnePlus's devices, the tablet runs a customized version of Android 15 called Oxygen OS 15. It's a fairly clean version of Androidâ€"though the similarities to iOS are more obvious than everâ€"and, naturally, it's pushing a boatload of AI features. These include the usual generative AI features other tech companies have already introduced in their own devices, such as AI Summarize (text message and notification summaries), AI Writer (helps write text based on a prompt), AI Translations, and AI Speak (AI reads articles out loud). There's also built-in Google Gemini support; the Smart Keyboard (sold separately) even has a Gemini key for quick access to the chatbot. Beyond AI, Oxygen OS has a few productivity-focused features, including better multitasking that takes advantage of the larger screen, "O+ Connect," which lets you share files between the tablet and PCs, and a "remote control" feature that lets you control your Mac through the OnePlus Pad 3. All of these should help make the OnePlus Pad 3 (with Smart Keyboard) more laptop-like. If you're looking for a tablet that's not called an iPad or Galaxy, the OnePlus Pad 3 could be a good alternative. Pre-orders begin today, June 5, on OnePlus's website with a release date on July 8 at OnePlus.com, Amazon, and Best Buy. The tablet costs $699.99 and the Smart Keyboard is $199.99. A Folio Case is $49.99. While there's no new stylus, the previous $99.99 Stylo 2 pen does work with the OnePlus Pad 3 if you're the notetaking or doodling kind.

The OnePlus Pad 3 Arrives With a Massive Screen and Big Performance Upgrade
Be Ready for Your Next Power Outage With an Entertainment USB Stick Summary OnePlus Pad 3 features Snapdragon 8 Elite & 12,140 mAh battery, thin 5.97mm design. 13.2-inch 144Hz LCD display, 3392x2400 resolution, and up to 900 nits brightness. OxygenOS based on Android 15 with Open Canvas multitasking system. Starts at $699.99 in the US, accessories sold separately. The OnePlus Pad series has been a serious contender in the Android tablet space, thanks especially to its performance-to-value ratio. Now, the OnePlus Pad 3 is here, and it's building on everything that made the two previous models so good, but at a higher cost. OnePlus teased the new tablet a couple of weeks ago, but today it's officially available. Under the hood, you're looking at a pretty nice upgrade. The Pad 3 boasts a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, paired with 12GB or 16GB of RAM. Storage options are equally nice, with 256GB or 512GB available. Powering all of this is a beefy 12,140 mAh battery packed into a body that's just 5.97mm thick. The display is a large 13.2-inch LCD panel with 3392x2400 resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. It gets bright, too, hitting 600 nits in normal conditions and a peak of 900 nits in high-brightness mode. The software you'll be looking at on that screen is the latest version of OxygenOS based on Android 15. Related Here's When Your OnePlus Will Get Android 15 (OxygenOS 15) The Android 15 beta started in February for Google and late May for select OnePlus phones, delivering exciting changes. Later this year, it'll begin rolling out for multiple OnePlus phones. With the OnePlus Android 15 (OxygenOS 15) beta well underway, here's what you need to know. Posts For snapping photos or the occasional video call, you'll find a 13MP front-facing camera and an 8MP rear-facing one. You get camera-based face unlock, which is fine for unlocking the device itself, but there doesn't appear to be any form of secure biometrics. Close On the software front, there's the usual dose of AI features, but most importantly, it still includes OnePlus' excellent Open Canvas multitasking system. This has been my favorite feature of OnePlus tablets and book-style foldables. This time around, they've added suggestions for app groups. But the best news is that OnePlus is committing to six years of security updates and three major OS updates, taking you all the way through Android 18. For accessories, there's an upgraded keyboard case, sold separately, that adjusts between 110-165 degrees and has NFC for quick file transfers between your phone and tablet. The OnePlus Stylo 2 stylus is back again, and there's also a standard Folio case if you just need protection and a kickstand. The OnePlus Pad 3 is available today, and pricing in the US starts at $699.99 with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. For those keeping track, that's $200 more than the OnePlus Pad 2 at launch. The Folio Case is $49.99, the Smart Keyboard is $199.99, and the Stylo 2 is $99.99. The 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage model is not available in the US. OnePlus Pad 3 The OnePlus Pad 3 boasts a large 13.2-inch 144Hz LCD display and is powered by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. It aims to be a powerful and versatile device for both productivity and entertainment. It features a sleek design, long battery life, and support for accessories like a Smart Keyboard and Stylo. The OnePlus Pad 3 almost made me a believer
I become uneasy whenever tablets attempt to move beyond the realm of entertainment and light gaming. I never get adequate value for the premium I pay, and the extra horsepower on flagship tablets is wasted on me. I don't believe it's all my fault. The uses aren't there for tablets that are heavily focused on productivity. I don't edit 4K video on the go with my tablet. If I needed that, I'd bring along my more capable laptop. Still, I like to keep an open mind, and the OnePlus Pad 3 seemed promising. It's an impressive piece of hardware, and OnePlus has gone to great lengths to give me reasons to be more productive on the go; however, I'm not entirely convinced it's succeeded. The OnePlus Pad 3 comes closer than any other tablet to making me a believer, but I have doubts. OnePlus Pad 3 Storage 256GB Operating System OxygenOS 15 Battery 12,140mAh Display type LCD Price $700 Colors Storm Blue The OnePlus Pad 3 features an expansive 13.2-inch LCD panel with a 3.4K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. It's powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite with 12GB of RAM, providing ample horsepower for even the most intensive Android apps. OnePlus included a massive 12,140mAh battery, which the company claims can hold a charge for 70 days on standby. Pros & Cons Gorgeous display Snappy performance Intuitive software Considerable weight No fingerprint reader $700 at OnePlus Expand Collapse Price, specs, and availability The OnePlus Pad 3 is now available for preorder through OnePlus for $700, with deliveries estimated to begin in mid-July. OnePlus increased the price slightly over last year, but I'm not bothered by the change. It comes in one configuration, with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and is offered in one color: Storm Blue. There is no cellular variant available. The tablet may cost only $700, but the accessories get pricey. I almost don't want to think of the OnePlus Pad 3 as optional, because it's a significant piece of the puzzle. Thankfully, if you preorder, OnePlus is giving the Smart Keyboard as a gift, along with the OnePlus Pad 3 Folio Case. Typically, the keyboard would cost a hefty $200, with the case running you another $100. Both are premium and do the job, but more on the keyboard later. OnePlus Pad 3 SoC Snapdragon 8 Elite Display type LCD Display dimensions 13.2" Display resolution 3392 x 2400 RAM 12GB Storage 256GB Battery 12,140mAh Charging speed 80W SIM support No Operating System OxygenOS 15 Front Camera 8MP Rear Camera 13MP Weight 675g Colors Storm Blue Price $700 Expand Collapse A gorgeous display with drawbacks It's massive Close Using a OnePlus Pad 3 is an exercise in contrasts. I love its expansive 13.2-inch LCD. It's gorgeous and vibrant, with a resolution of 3392 x 2400 and a 144Hz refresh rate. The panel is plenty bright for outdoor viewing, and I enjoyed typing a portion of this review on the OnePlus Pad 3 on my deck. Movies and games look fantastic, and I'd stack the Pad 3 against any other tablet I own for entertainment. On a similar note, its eight speakers (four woofers and four tweeters) provide a decent sound that gets loud without distortion. However, while the OnePlus Pad 3 has an outstanding display, it's also my first complaint: it's gigantic. The Pad 3 is unwieldy, and it's not just because of its size -- it weighs a chonky 675g. The weight makes the tablet uncomfortable to hold for extended periods, and you'll need to keep it at a distance to view the entire display. With weight comes durability, and there's no question the OnePlus Pad 3 is designed to last the course, with its aluminum unibody chassis. The OnePlus Pad 3 moves away from the uniquely OnePlus design of its predecessor, and I don't mind. I disliked the circular camera hump on the OnePlus Pad 2, and I'm pleased that the company opted for a more traditional tablet design for this year's model. OnePlus did an excellent job designing the keyboard case and folio case. The folio case is pretty standard, but the keyboard case complements the tablet well. It connects magnetically via pogo pins on the back of the tablet, and the Pad 3 instantly recognizes that I'm using the keyboard. The UI experience is well thought out, with intuitive gestures that help me navigate. I found myself looking for the home button, or a way to go back, but all I needed to do was swipe up with two fingers on the trackpad. I wouldn't recommend the OnePlus Pad 3 without the keyboard, and that's the only reason why it comes close to making me believe a tablet can be used for productivity. Related Review: The OnePlus Pad 2 surprised me in almost every way Working from a tablet is finally tempting Posts 5 Outstanding raw flagship performance But who is it for? I'm almost tired of writing about the Snapdragon 8 Elite, because it's been excellent at every turn. I've never had a bad experience with any smartphone powered by one, and it'll chew through whatever you throw at it. I ripped through daily tasks, and even Genshin Impact, the great equalizer, ran smoothly in high settings. The Pad 3 also features 12GB of fast LPDDR5x RAM, ensuring your tablet will be snappy for years. However, the OnePlus Pad 3's impressive performance raises more questions than it answers. What am I doing on a tablet that I don't even want to leave the house with that requires all that horsepower? Even if the Pad 3 were more portable, am I really doing anything more than typing up an article or browsing the web? Those are tasks I could accomplish handily on a base Apple iPad or even an Amazon Fire HD 10 for significantly less money. Even if the Pad 3 is a steal compared to the Samsung Galaxy S10 Ultra, that doesn't mean I need it. A Ferrari makes a Porsche seem like the deal of the century, but you won't see me running to my local dealership just yet. OnePlus and I have been through it OxygenOS is finally on track I'll never forgive the company for ruining my OnePlus 9 experience with its dismal OxygenOS 12 release. However, even if I'm not willing to forget, I'm willing to forgive, and OnePlus has done an excellent job turning things around with OxygenOS 15. The user experience is fluid and intuitive on the OnePlus Pad 3, and I like the company's aesthetic changes for its Android 15 release. More important than Android 15 is the inclusion of Open Canvas. OnePlus excels at multitasking better than any other Android manufacturer, and I'm disappointed that other companies haven't derived inspiration from the fluid Open Canvas experience. If you give me a gigantic display, you'd better supply a way for me to use the space efficiently, and Open Canvas is a pleasure. OnePlus was keen to tout the remote desktop capabilities of the Pad 3 through O+ Connect. It took considerable effort to get the app up and running, with a myriad of settings and permissions on both the tablet and my MacBook Air M4. However, it did work well when set up. I was able to transfer files back and forth and have complete control over my laptop via Wi-Fi. I see more applications for this on a desktop machine that you want to log into remotely. Still, I was pleased it functioned properly, even if OnePlus needs to improve the user experience during setup. The company promises 3 years of OS upgrades for the OnePlus Pad 3, with 6 years of security patches. I would have liked more software support, but the extended security patches alleviated any concerns. OnePlus also added its spin on AI to the device, going so far as to put a dedicated button on the keyboard. It functions well enough, but I'm still never going to speak out a query towards my tablet in a coffee shop. It's not just OnePlus, as no Android manufacturer has sold me on the added benefits of AI just yet. Excellent battery life and acceptable cameras 70 days of standby time The OnePlus Pad 3 features a massive 12,140mAh battery cell with blistering 80W fast charging. The company also included a charging adapter in the box. It's a full slate of wins, and I'm pleased to see OnePlus not joining the trend of charging people extra for faster speeds. A gigantic battery paired with the power-efficient Snapdragon 8 Elite is a potent combination, allowing for days of battery life on a single charge. If you're a heavy gamer or have your screen on all day, you'll want to top off every night, but that's to be expected if you use your tablet more like a laptop. OnePlus was proud of the 70-day standby time for the Pad 3, which seems plausible in my testing. I haven't even used it for 70 days, let alone left it idle for that long, but based on the overnight drain percentages, the Pad 3 sips power when not in use. The cameras aren't anything special, but I don't expect much from a tablet. The 8MP front cameras will do the job on your next Zoom call, and the 13MP rear camera is fine in a pinch. Should you buy a OnePlus Pad 3? I mentioned the OnePlus Pad 3 came closer than any other tablet to convincing me that I'd use one for productivity tasks, but it still falls short of the mark. I don't think it's a problem that can be solved for me. If you absolutely need a large, heavy tablet that can function as a quasi-laptop when you need it and a gigantic screen entertainment center when you don't, have at it, because OnePlus has done an excellent job. However, for the rest of us, I'd still look towards more inexpensive options, like the Lenovo Idea Tab Pro, to get plenty of use for a lot less money. OnePlus Pad 3 7.5 / 10 Storage 256GB Operating System OxygenOS 15 Battery 12,140mAh Display type LCD I can't fault the hardware of the OnePlux Pad 3. It's an excellent performer with a gorgeous display and fantastic battery life. However, it's tough to know who should buy one. If you're in the market for an Android tablet that can do everything and serve as a laptop replacement, it's a good choice. $700 at OnePlus Expand Collapse

OnePlus Pad 3 launches with Snapdragon 8 Elite, 13.2-inch display, still no biometrics for $699
OnePlus has just launched its new OnePlus Pad 3 with a new chipset, bigger display, and a higher price. The OnePlus Pad series has, thus far, delivered some of the best Android tablets for their price. With its new OnePlus Pad 3, though, OnePlus is supersizing all of it. This new tablet includes a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset under the hood paired with 12GB or 16GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage. That's powered by the latest version of OxygenOS with Android 15, as well as a 12,140 mAh battery that supports 80W charging. Truly, it's a powerhouse on the spec sheet. The display is a 13.2-inch LCD panel at 3392×2400. The panel can hit 600 nits of brightness generally, with a high-brightness mode peaking at 900 nits, while the refresh rate is a smooth 144Hz. There are 8 speakers in total, OnePlus says, while any wired audio output is via the USB-C port. That's in part because the OnePlus Pad 3 is very thin at just 5.97mm. Rounding out the hardware, there's a 13MP front-facing camera and an 8MP rear-facing camera. The one glaring omission on the spec sheet is any form of secure biometrics. There's a camera-based face unlock, but you won't be able to use that with any remotely secure apps, like password managers. That's a crying shame on this $700 tablet. Meanwhile, on the software side of things, OnePlus is committing to 6 years of security updates as well as three major OS updates through Android 18. The software is, of course, packed with AI features while also supporting OnePlus' excellent Open Canvas multitasking system. OnePlus is upgrading that system with suggestions for app groups, such as if you're "flicking between the group chat and your maps app" while planning an event with friends. There's an upgraded keyboard case this time around - not included with the tablet - which can be adjusted between 110-165 degrees and supports NFC for file transfer between your phone and tablet. The OnePlus Stylo 2 remains around for another year on this updated tablet. There's a Folio case also available. Pricing breaks down as follows in the US: Everything is available for purchase now. The OnePlus Pad 3 is one of the best tablets I've used, here's why
Android smartphones have long competed with, and in some cases, surpassed, the iPhone, but the same can't be said for tablets. Android makers have long harbored ambitions to compete with the iPad in the category that Apple created, dating back to the launch of the first Galaxy Tab, which occurred 15 years ago. Yet, the iPad remains the best tablet for most people. The iPad Pro M4 ushered in the tandem OLED era as Apple stacked two OLED displays for an incredibly immersive experience. The Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra was the first to compete and offers the same great experience you can find on Galaxy phones, but with a few compromises. Recommended Videos One of these is the processor, the other is the size, and the overall battery life, at least compared to the expectation based on its size. The new OnePlus Pad 3 solves these, and having used it for a couple of weeks, here's why it's one of the best Android tablets I've used. A flagship without the flagship size or price The Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra is arguably the best Android tablet you could buy -- at least, before the OnePlus Pad 3 -- but its key issue was how large it is. While the Galaxy Tab S10 Plus is a great alternative, the OnePlus Pad 3 is the better tablet to buy, especially given its flagship positioning. OnePlus is renowned for its early moniker of being the flagship killer, and the OnePlus Pad 3 embodies this. For $699, you get true flagship specs that wouldn't be amiss on any of the best phones, and an evolved version of Open Canvas for the best multitasking on any Android device. The 13.2-inch screen is ideally sized, and it features a design that's reminiscent of the iPad Pro M4. The display has a 144Hz refresh rate with Dolby Vision support, and a peak brightness of 900 nits. Brightness aside, these are specs worthy of any flagship phone, even if the display is LCD and not OLED. Incredible performance from the Snapdragon 8 Elite Central to the OnePlus Pad 3's offering is its processor. It's powered by the same Snapdragon 8 Elite flagship processor that powers the best phones like the OnePlus 13, Galaxy S25 Ultra, and Razr Ultra 2025. It's also the full 8-core version, rather than the 7-core version used in thin devices like the Oppo Find N5. This is paired with either 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage or 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. These are the specs you'd expect from devices like the rumored OnePlus 14, not a tablet that costs several hundred dollars less. It's the first Android tablet that competes with the M4 chip in the iPad Pro, at least in terms of raw performance, power, and AI capabilities. Despite the power, the Snapdragon 8 Elite also enables excellent battery life. A battery that lasts for days and charges in minutes There's a common theme amongst all OnePlus products: fast performance, excellent battery life, and superfast charging. In the US, the OnePlus Pad 3 ticks all of these boxes and offers an experience akin to the best OnePlus phones. The 12,140 mAh battery is among the largest on a tablet, surpassing that of the iPad Pro and Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra, despite the larger display on the latter. I've found that the battery lasts almost nine hours on a single charge, which is excellent, but slightly less than last year's Pad 2. The extra performance, however, makes it worthwhile. My favorite aspect of the OnePlus Pad 3 experience is its fast charging capabilities. In the US, the 80W charger is included in the box, which can charge the OnePlus Pad 3 to full in 90 minutes. For comparison, the Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra features 45W charging and takes over two hours, whereas the iPad Pro M4 supports 30W charging and can recharge in approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. Outstanding multitasking that Apple could learn from Android tablets have long harbored one key advantage over the iPad: multitasking. Beginning with Samsung devices for over a decade, the best Android tablets have featured unique ways to multitask and run multiple windows simultaneously on the large display, Apple's answer to this was a suite of features including SlideOver and a pop out view, but the iPad still lacks the advanced multitasking features found on Android tablets. The OnePlus Pad 3 features an evolved version of Open Canvas, the multitasking feature that allows you to run several apps simultaneously, free from the constraints of the physical hardware size. The feature first launched on the OnePlus Open, making that the best folding phone, and it's now available on the OnePlus Pad 3, as well as phones like the OnePlus 13 and Oppo Find N5. The OnePlus Pad 3 offers exceptional value for money It's hard to find reasons to fault the OnePlus Pad 3, at least those that are within OnePlus' control. The hardware is excellent, there's support for a stylus and a keyboard case that you can buy, and it ticks all the key boxes for a tablet. The only real issue is that some Android apps are not optimized for large screens, a problem that also affects folding phones. All of this means the OnePlus Pad 3 offers exceptional value for money at a starting price of $699. Adding the Pen ($100), the folio case ($50), or the Keyboard case ($200) will push up the price, but it's cheaper than the competition, and pre-order deals include two out of the three for free. At this price, it's hard to fault the OnePlus Pad 3.

OnePlus Pad 3 Official in US for $699 With Specs Worth Tasting
We may earn a commission when you click links to retailers and purchase goods. More info. We've been tracking the OnePlus Pad 3 thanks to an FCC listing since early May and can happily report that it is now official in the US. OnePlus announced its new flagship tablet with a big time set of specs and a $699 price tag. It will also have several accessories available to it, plenty of software support, and is easily a competitor to other high-end tablets. OnePlus Pad 3 Specs: Before we get into the sales pitch, let's run through the OnePlus Pad 3 specs, since so many of you remain specs-heads. You get the top Qualcomm chip at the moment, tons of RAM, plenty of fast storage, a massive battery with super fast charging (and a charger included), WiFi 7, more speakers than you'll believe, and more. Alright, that out of the way, here's what OnePlus wants you to know about this new tablet. First, it's big with that 13.2'' LCD display that is wrapped in a super slim unibody metal case. With its 144Hz display, Snapdragon 8 Elite, fast RAM and storage, and a cooling vapor chamber, OnePlus expects this to be a gaming powerhouse that can last for hours and hours. In software, it has OxygenOS 15 (Android 15) out of the box and will receive 3 Android OS updates and 6 years of bi-monthly security patches. OnePlus has filled it with AI features, like AI Writer and Summarize, Google's Circle to Search, and Gemini. It's also packed with their Open Canvas feature that allows you to easily drag and drop, adjust the split screen, etc. The point is to take advantage of this massive screen and be more productive, if that's your thing. When it comes to accessories, OnePlus has a folio case with several ways to fold it in order to prop it at several angles. The star is probably the Smart Keyboard, which attaches via PINs to the back of the Pad 3 and gives you a full keyboard experience, with trackpad and keyboard shortcuts. So yeah, the OnePlus Pad 3 is a high-end Android tablet with a lot of good going on. We have one and are testing away - should have some thoughts to share shortly. OnePlus Pad 3 and accessory pricing: Available for pre-order starting today (June 5) and arriving on your doorstep July 8. Pre-orders through OnePlus.com include two free accessories.

OnePlus Pad 3 pre-order offers two free gifts worth $299 - Phandroid
OnePlus just announced its latest flagship tablet, the OnePlus Pad 3. It's a powerhouse of a device, and if you're interested, the OnePlus Pad 3 pre-order is now live, and it's packed with solid perks. Place your order before July 15, and you'll get to pick two free gifts from the following: That's up to $299 in freebies (or CA$399 in Canada). It's not just a random bundle, either -- you actually get to choose which accessories you want with your Pad 3, which is rare. There's more. Students can stack an extra 10% off their order if they buy before July 31. And if you trade in an eligible device, OnePlus throws in a $100 (or CA$100) bonus, making the upgrade a little sweeter. Extra perks: If you're curious about the hardware, the OnePlus Pad 3 doesn't hold back. The 13.2-inch display is crisp, with a 3.4K resolution and 12-bit color depth. It packs in a pixel density of 315 PPI and uses a 7:5 aspect ratio, so everything looks sharp, whether you're streaming, working, or multitasking. Under the hood, you get the Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform, paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It's more than enough muscle for gaming, heavy multitasking, or just about anything you'd throw at a tablet. Battery life shouldn't be an issue, either. The Pad 3 has a massive 12,140mAh battery that OnePlus says can handle long sessions -- up to 17 hours of video or 6 hours of high-end gaming. When you need a top-up, 80W SUPERVOOC charging gets you back in action fast. Audio isn't an afterthought. There are eight speakers on board (four woofers, four tweeters), so you'll actually notice a difference when watching movies or playing music. Software-wise, it runs OxygenOS 15 out of the box. That means you get features like Gemini, Circle to Search, and a bunch of new AI tools like AI Writer and AI Summarize. Plus, OnePlus is promising three major Android updates and six years of security patches, which is way better than most Android tablets.

The OnePlus Pad 3 tablet launches with Snapdragon 8 Elite and massive battery - Phandroid
The OnePlus Pad 3 tablet is finally official. Announced for the US and Canada, it launches on July 8 and packs the kind of hardware and software you'd expect in a flagship device. First up, the OnePlus Pad 3 tablet goes all-in on design. According to OnePlus, the tablet measures less than six millimeters thin. It features a metal unibody and a single color option: Storm Blue. The tablet squeezes eight speakers (four woofers, four tweeters) into the device. On paper, it should deliver much better sound than your average tablet. The tablet's display features a 13.2-inch screen with a 3.4K resolution, 12-bit color, and a pixel density that rivals laptops. It has a 7:5 aspect ratio. This is a little unusual, but it helps with multitasking and split-screen work. Under the hood, OnePlus is shipping it with the Snapdragon 8 Elite, 12GB RAM, and 256GB of storage. There's also a cooling system with vapor chambers made of graphene composite. Battery life is a big deal here, too. It packs a massive 12,140mAh cell under the hood. It is rated for up to 17 hours of video, 6 hours of AAA gaming, and more than two months of standby. When you run out of juice, you get 80W SUPERVOOC charging and a charger included in the box (something not every tablet brand does anymore). Software-wise, the tablet runs OxygenOS 15, with new AI features like AI Writer and AI Summarize for productivity and Google's Gemini/Circle to Search baked in. The Open Canvas feature lets you drag, drop, and split apps more easily -- handy if you're juggling chats, docs, or maps all at once. OnePlus promises three major Android OS updates and six years of bi-monthly security patches, which is above average for an Android tablet. The tablet also comes with a host of accessories. There's a new Smart Keyboard with a dedicated AI button and PC-like feel, a new Stylo 2 stylus that recognizes 16,000 pressure levels, and a tri-folding Folio Case that supports multiple angles for drawing or binge-watching. All the extras cost extra, though: the keyboard is $199.99 USD, the case is $49.99 USD, and the stylus is $99.99 USD. The OnePlus Pad 3 tablet goes on pre-order on June 5, with open sales on July 8. It's $699.99 USD for the tablet itself, available on OnePlus.com and Amazon (US) or Best Buy (Canada). Accessories are only available through OnePlus's site, at least for now.

OnePlus releases its latest Android tablet, the Pad 3, featuring high-end specs and improved software, but questions remain about its value proposition and productivity capabilities.
OnePlus has launched its latest Android tablet, the Pad 3, aiming to compete with top-tier offerings from Apple and Samsung. The new device brings several hardware upgrades and software improvements, but questions remain about its value proposition and productivity capabilities 123.
The OnePlus Pad 3 features a larger 13.2-inch LCD display with a 3392 x 2400 resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate, offering vibrant visuals for entertainment and gaming 12. Powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, the tablet comes with options for 12GB or 16GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage 24.
One of the most notable improvements is the massive 12,140mAh battery, up from 9,510mAh in the previous model. OnePlus claims the tablet can last up to 70 days in standby mode 34. The device also supports 80W fast charging, with a compatible charger included in the box 3.
Despite its larger battery, the Pad 3 maintains a slim profile at just 5.97mm thick. However, at 675g, it's heavier than some competitors and may be cumbersome for extended handheld use 13.
The OnePlus Pad 3 runs OxygenOS 15, based on Android 15, and introduces several AI-powered features and productivity tools 24:
OnePlus has also improved its update policy, promising six years of security updates and three major OS updates 4.
The OnePlus Pad 3 starts at $699.99 for the 256GB storage and 12GB RAM configuration, a $150 increase from its predecessor 12. Optional accessories include:
Pre-orders began on June 5, with general availability starting July 8 24.
While reviewers praise the Pad 3's hardware and entertainment capabilities, opinions are mixed on its productivity potential. Some argue that the powerful specs and improved multitasking features make it a viable laptop alternative for light work 14. Others question whether the added performance justifies the price increase, especially for users who primarily use tablets for media consumption 5.

The lack of a fingerprint reader and the reliance on less secure face unlock technology has also been noted as a potential drawback 4.
As Android tablets continue to evolve, the OnePlus Pad 3 represents another step towards bridging the gap between mobile and desktop computing. However, its success may ultimately depend on how well it can convince users of its value as a productivity device in addition to its entertainment prowess.
