Samsung to bring OLED TV challenger to US living rooms
The 115-inch Micro RGB 4K television has launched in South Korea, but has been confirmed for US availability Samsung teased a fresh take on backlit premium televisions at CES in January, with a 98-inch 8K LCD TV prototype featuring RGB microLED technology. Now the company has gone into production with a 115-inch 4K model - and it's coming to the US. A step up from the MicroLED technology seen in Samsung's The Wall and subsequent consumer flavors, Micro RGB tech crams in tiny RGB LEDs behind the LCD panel of big-screen TVs. These RGB LEDs each measure less than 100 µm - around the thickness of the average human hair - and the platform is reported to enable "unprecedented precision in the control of micrometer-sized RGB LEDs, raising the bar for color accuracy and contrast in consumer displays." Claimed to set a new benchmark for color accuracy, contrast and immersive viewing, the display technology covers 100% of the BT.2020 color gamut, and has been certified color accurate by Germany's Verband der Elektrotechnik institute. The folks over at Pantone have also validated skin-tone accuracy for onscreen realism. An AI engine is tasked with optimizing color output based on real-time frame analysis for the promise of vivid and immersive viewing with minimal reflections - even in brightly lit rooms. There's support for HDR10+ content, plus standard dynamic range content can be automatically bumped to something approaching HDR. The first Micro RGB TV has a refresh rate of 120 Hz, though Samsung says that 144 Hz is possible for sharp action when gaming. AMD FreeSync helps reduce stutter and tearing, and players can tap into an in-game menu to adjust frame rates, input lag and aspect ratio. AI can also automatically optimize parameters during gameplay. Streaming entertainment is provided by Samsung's Tizen smart TV platform, with 7 years of OS updates promised along with data security from Knox tri-layer protection. And onscreen digital art from top museums and artists is available between shows. As you will expect, the premium TV is no slouch in the audio department. The 70-watt 4.2.2 Dolby Atmos sound system "puts you at the center of the action" while a neat system can keep track of what's happening onscreen for dynamic, realistic playback. AI can bring dialogue to the fore in noisy scenes, and the TV's speakers can work together with a chosen sound bar for unified output. Though other display manufacturers like Sony and Hisense are also working on next-gen backlighting technologies, Samsung is the first to market. The 115-inch Micro RGB TV has launched in the company's home turf of South Korea, but has been confirmed for release in the US for around US$30,000 - in fact, Samsung US already has a product page ready. That's a lot of change for a gogglebox, but is a fraction of the ticket price for the company's 110-inch MicroLED telly. The ticket price is likely to come down as Samsung moves ahead with its planned global rollout of smaller screen sizes, which could take a big bite out of the current color-rich OLED market.

Samsung to launch 115-inch Neo QLED TV that dwarfs the biggest OLEDs
Samsung is adding to its line-up of oversized displays with the new 115-inch QN90F Neo QLED TV that's available starting today on Samsung's website for... well... a lot. At launch, this super-sized TV will cost $26,999, which is strange considering that's nearly as much as Samsung's recently unveiled 115-inch RGB MicroLED TV that costs $30,000. Back in April we did our Samsung QN90F hands-on review with a 65-inch version of this set, and we came away impressed with its bright picture and local dimming performance. You also get full HDMI 2.1 support in an elegant design. However, we thought some of the AI-features felt half-baked and that the color volume was a bit lackluster. Despite a number of picture-enhancing technologies, it's not exactly clear how the supersized Neo QLED TV is supposed to compete with its MicroLED stablemate -- unless Samsung has plans to cut its price significantly in November for Black Friday. At 115 inches corner-to-corner, the new QN90F is larger than any consumer OLED TV -- but it now feels par for the course for QLED TVs put out by Samsung and Hisense. According to the press release sent to Tom's Guide, the 115-inch Samsung QN90F Neo QLED TV will use the NQ8 AI Gen3 processor (the same one found in last year's Samsung QN900D 8K TV) that has access to Supersize Picture Enhancer, an upscaling technology that helps reduce noise on larger screens. To help mitigate glare -- a huge problem for TVs this size -- Samsung is equipping the QN90F with Glare Free technology, a technology that has worked exceedingly well in its QD-OLED TVs, the 2025 S95F OLED and the 2024 S95D OLED. For enhanced contrast and color, the QN90F will use a combination of its Neo Quantum HDR Pro and Plus, Quantum Matrix Technology Pro technology. All these technologies sound great on paper, but I'm not sure any Neo QLED TV will be able to compete with Samsung's new RGB MicroLED TVs. Despite maxing out at 97 inches, OLED TVs are still some of the best TVs on the market thanks to their self-emissive pixels. Neo QLED TVs for their many tricks still require a backlight. RGB MicroLED is the latest and greatest LED technology and while it's not quite self-emissive in the same way OLED TVs are, it uses red-, green- and blue-colored LEDs -- each of which are less than 1/10th of a millimeter. These MicroLEDs are good for two things: light and color. While we've yet to test them in our own labs, Samsung claims that these TVs can cover 100% of the BT.2020 color gamut, making them far more vibrant than even the most colorful OLED and Mini-LED TVs. Given how the MicroLEDs are clustered, they're expected to get much brighter than traditional Mini-LED and OLED TVs, too. I'm saying all this because at $27,000, the new QN90F doesn't feel like a screaming deal considering that an equivalent-sized RBG MicroLED is just $3,000 more. However, if Samsung's plan is to launch at $27,000 and then cut that in half for Black Friday, then I understand why it's priced the way it is. Available first in South Korea and then the US before a global rollout Let's start with the bad news: Samsung's first micro-RGB TV is outrageously expensive. But the tech will quickly make its way to more affordable models, and could be a significant rival to OLED. The newly announced 115-inch micro-RGB TV uses Samsung's exceptionally small LEDs to deliver what Samsung says is "a new benchmark for color accuracy, contrast and immersive viewing in the ultra-premium TV segment." It's launching in South Korea first with a price tag of 44.9 million KRW; that works out as roughly $32,000 / £24,000 / €28,000 / AU$49,750. The USA will get the TV next, and it'll roll out to more markets after that. The display uses a micro-scale RGB LED backlight comprising individually controlled red, green and blue micro RGB LEDs, each of which is less than 100µm in size. That means the TV can deliver much more precise lighting than a traditionally backlit LED TV, and that in turn means more precise and accurate color reproduction. The display is powered by Samsung's Micro RGB AI Engine, which analyzes each frame in real time and optimizes the color output; it can also enhance dull color tones and intelligently enhance them to make them more vivid and immersive - hopefully less dramatically than the color optimization on my Samsung QLED, which does terrifying things to people's complexions.
