Sify Technologies Limited has launched a massive 130 MW AI-ready data centre campus in Chennai, marking a significant milestone in India's digital infrastructure development and AI capabilities.

Sify Unveils Massive AI-Ready Data Centre in Chennai

Sify Technologies Limited, a leading IT and communications company based in Chennai, has inaugurated what it claims to be "South India's largest AI-ready data centre campus" in Siruseri, Tamil Nadu 12. The Chennai 02 data centre campus, designed with a capacity exceeding 130 megawatts (MW), represents a significant leap in India's digital infrastructure and AI capabilities.

State-of-the-Art Facilities and Capabilities

The newly launched data centre boasts impressive specifications:

  • Power density ranging from 8 to 25 kilowatts (kW) for air-cooled racks
  • Up to 200 kW for liquid-cooled workloads
  • Two petabytes of storage capacity
  • Ability to host dense AI workloads up to 200 kW power per rack 1

As the only data centre in India with an on-site open cable landing station, it offers enhanced global connectivity and network performance 2. The facility has also achieved platinum-rated Green Data Center recognition from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), underlining Sify's commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency.

Investment and Economic Impact

Sify's chairman, Raju Vegesna, highlighted the company's substantial investment in the project:

"With our cumulative investment now crossing ₹10,000 crore from an initial commitment of ₹2,500 crore, we are not only building digital infrastructure but also creating an ecosystem of opportunity. We envision generating employment for 10,000 people -- direct and indirect -- as this facility ramps up." 12

This investment aligns with Sify's broader strategy, as the company announced a $5 billion plan earlier this year to expand its data centre footprint across India, including tier 2 and tier 3 cities 1.

AI and Technology Advancements

The data centre's AI-readiness is further emphasized by Sify's recent achievements:

  • First company to achieve NVIDIA's DGX-ready data centre certification for liquid cooling
  • Launch of Sify Cloudinfinit +AI, a GPU-as-a-service platform for enterprise users 1

These advancements position the facility as a critical enabler for AI workloads and digital-first enterprises, providing scalable infrastructure and high-performance computing capabilities 2.

Government Support and Regional Impact

The inauguration of the data centre by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin underscores the state government's support for such initiatives. This aligns with Tamil Nadu's vision of becoming a preferred data centre destination, contributing to India's growing data centre landscape 12.

As India's digital infrastructure continues to expand, this new facility by Sify marks a significant step forward in the country's ability to support advanced AI and cloud computing technologies, potentially attracting more global tech companies and fostering innovation in the region.
