Lambda Partners with SK Telecom to Launch AI Cloud Services in South Korea

The service aims to make GPU compute as accessible as electricity and support scalable AI development. Lambda, the AI developer cloud platform, has announced a partnership with SK Telecom (SKT), South Korea's largest mobile telecommunications company. The collaboration aims to meet the growing demand for AI infrastructure in South Korea, with Lambda deploying its AI Cloud platform in SK Broadband's Gasan data center later this year. "SKT shares in our vision to make GPU compute as ubiquitous as electricity," said Lambda CEO and co-founder, Stephen Balaban. "Given the rapid pace of AI innovation happening in South Korea, we're excited to partner with SKT in their mission to transform their company and country into a global AI powerhouse." "Through our strategic partnership with Lambda, we are able to bolster SK Telecom's leadership in AI services and capabilities while unlocking new business opportunities," said Kim Kyeong-deog, Vice President and Head of Enterprise Business Division at SK Telecom. SK Telecom to open AI data center

SK Telecom will join hands with U.S. GPU cloud provider Lambda to transform its existing data center in Seoul into an AI data center, company officials said. SK Telecom plans to expand the data center's total GPU units to thousands over the next three years to build the country's biggest GPU farm. With the data center, Lambda also plans to open its first Asia-Pacific region in Korea and SK Telecom will release a GPU-as-a-Service based on Lambda's GPU resources. SK Telecom has been working to expand its AI infrastructure business, investing $20 million in Lambda and $200 million in AI data center solutions company Smart Global Holdings earlier this year.
