Streambox Media unveils Dor, an AI-driven subscription-based TV service that aggregates content from multiple OTT platforms and TV channels, aiming to reshape the Indian connected TV ecosystem.

Streambox Media Introduces AI-Powered TV Service 'Dor'

Streambox Media has unveiled Dor, a subscription-based TV service powered by artificial intelligence, aimed at revolutionizing how consumers access and pay for content across multiple platforms 12. Financed by Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath, along with Stride Ventures and Micromax Informatics, Dor is positioned as a disruptive force in the Indian connected TV ecosystem.

AI-Driven Content Aggregation and Discovery

At the heart of Dor is an AI-driven operating system that aggregates content from over 24 OTT platforms and 300+ TV channels 1. The system's key features include:

  1. Voice-activated content search across platforms
  2. Multi-language speech recognition
  3. Personalized home screens based on user preferences
  4. Child-safe content filtering

Micromax Informatics co-founder Rahul Sharma highlighted the convenience of Dor, stating, "Just a couple of days ago, I wanted to watch the ongoing India-Australia cricket test series. But to do that, I had to first visit four to five OTT platforms and then even do a Google search to know which platform was showing it. Dor OS eliminates this hassle." 12

Subscription Model and Pricing Strategy

Dor introduces a universal subscription model, eliminating the need for separate payments for individual OTT platforms or TV channels 1. The service is initially priced at:

  • Upfront activation fee: INR 9,999
  • Monthly subscription: INR 799

This pricing strategy is designed to disrupt the market and lower entry barriers for Indian consumers embracing connected TV 2. Anuj Gandhi, founder and CEO of Streambox Media, revealed that the AI-powered system will analyze viewing preferences for a year to offer customized packages starting from INR 299 1.

Market Potential and Growth Targets

The Indian connected TV market shows significant growth potential:

  • Connected TV households expected to grow from 50 million to 100 million in the next five years 12
  • Annual TV sales volumes estimated at over 20 million in 2023 12
  • Smart TV sales reached 4.5 million in the first half of 2023 12

Streambox has set ambitious targets:

  • Acquire over 2 million customers within 24 months
  • Achieve double-digit market share 12

Marketing and Distribution Strategy

To support its growth plans, Streambox is implementing a multi-faceted marketing approach:

  1. Allocating 12-15% of revenues towards marketing initiatives
  2. Teaser campaign on Instagram with the tagline "Living room is about to get smaller"
  3. Collaboration with Flipkart for ad campaigns on social media platforms
  4. Partnerships with social media agency Dead End and other marketing agencies
  5. Plans for building a nationwide sales and service network 12

As the company expands its distribution ecosystem, it plans to explore regional marketing partnerships to enhance its reach across India 12.
