Zscaler expands zero trust and AI capabilities across cloud and branch environments Cloud security company Zscaler Inc. today announced a series of product updates designed to help enterprises extend zero trust security across their distributed environments. The announcements, made at the company's Zenith Live 2025 event, include new offerings for securing remote and cloud-native infrastructures, as well as artificial intelligence-powered tools for data classification, threat detection and segmentation. The new capabilities include a unified Zero Trust Branch appliance, a Zero Trust Gateway for cloud workload protection, enhanced microsegmentation for hybrid workloads and a B2B Exchange platform designed to modernize partner collaboration. In addition, Zscaler introduced AI-enhanced data classification, controls for generative AI tools and a segmentation engine that automates user-to-application mapping to reduce security overhead. Leading the list is a new Zero Trust Branch solution that offers a unified hardware appliance that eliminates the need for firewalls and network access control by providing segmentation between sites, Internet of Things and Operational technology devices and users. The platform also introduces disposable "jumpboxes" for contractor access that reduce attack surfaces without reliance on virtual desktop infrastructure or legacy tools. Another key release was the Zero Trust Gateway for Cloud Workloads, a cloud-native service on Amazon Web Services Inc. that secures workload-to-internet and East-West traffic across between workloads and virtual private clouds and Azure Virtual Networks in under 10 minutes without deploying agents or virtual machines. Zscaler also launched host-based microsegmentation for cloud and on-premises workloads, using an AI engine to enforce granular process-level policies and block lateral threat movement. To support secure B2B collaboration, Zscaler additionally introduced a new B2B Exchange capability for app sharing across partner organizations. The new exchange eliminates the need for virtual private networks and multiprotocol label switching circuits and accelerates secure connections between enterprises. "Zscaler's latest innovations for the Zero Trust Exchange truly extends Zero Trust Everywhere beyond users and redefines the enterprise security and networking by seamlessly unifying operations, strengthening threat defenses, and enabling secure connectivity across users, devices, applications, branches and clouds with better visibility and experience - no matter how complex or distributed the environment," said Dhawal Sharma, executive vice president of Product Strategy at Zscaler. On the AI front, Zscaler unveiled several new AI-powered capabilities at its conference, including an updated AI-driven data classification engine expands support to more than 200 categories to identity sensitive data beyond traditional pattern-matching techniques. Zscaler also extended protections for generative AI platforms, including visibility into user prompts and enhanced data loss prevention policies. The extended protections are designed to support responsible use of tools like Microsoft Copilot by identifying policy violations in AI-generated content. Other enhancements include AI-powered segmentation workflows for simplifying app grouping and Zscaler Digital Experience tools that provide network intelligence and automated remediation for internet service provider-related performance issues. What follows are five things to know on Zscaler's latest AI and security updates. At Zenith Live 2025, Zscaler announced it is unveiling new AI-powered capabilities aimed at classification of data for security purposes. The new AI-powered data security classification functionality can provide "human-like intuition" for identification of sensitive content, the company said in a news release. That includes classification of data spanning more than 200 categories, Zscaler said. This allows for "advanced" data classification that discovers new, unexpected types of sensitive data, according to the company. Organizations can ultimately benefit from highly granular -- and rapid -- assessment of data security posture, Zscaler said. Zscaler announced it is expanding its capabilities around prompt visibility, improving protection for GenAI applications such as Microsoft Copilot. The new functionality can provide enhanced visibility and control over Copilot and other GenAI apps using "advanced" classification and inspection of prompts, according to the company. Key options include the ability to block prompts found to be in violation of company policies as well as utilization of existing data loss prevention (DLP) for protection of sensitive data and compliance, Zscaler said. At Zenith Live, Zscaler also announced that it's rolling out what it's calling the "first" AI-powered automation engine that is purpose built for user-to-application segmentation. The new AI-powered segmentation engine can provide advantages including simplification of application management as well as app grouping and segmentation workflows, Zscaler said. The product update aims to accelerate segmentation workflows for rapid improvement of security posture, the company said in its news release. Zscaler also announced updates to its Digital Experience offering with the debut of new network intelligence capabilities powered by AI. The offering allows network operations teams to rapidly visualize performance for internet regional ISPs, while providing correlation between outages and analysis for optimization of connections to Zscaler's applications and data centers, the company said. The updates also allow network ops teams to "proactively detect, isolate, and analyze trends for disruptive ISP issues," the company said in its news release. Zscaler announced general availability Tuesday for its Unified Appliance offering for Zero Trust Branch, which provides a centralized way for securing communications between different branches and campuses. The unified appliance provides advantages including segmentation of operational technology (OT) and IoT devices, including "legacy" OT devices, Zscaler said in a news release. New capabilities also include functionality that enables access to key systems for contractors that is secure and time-bound, the company said.
