Acer's newest Nitro gaming laptops embrace the power of AI
Today at CES 2025, Acer announced their newest Nitro V AI lineup of gaming laptops infused with artificial intelligence. Not only are they designed to consume less power (and extend battery life), but they also feature AI-powered graphics thanks to Nvidia's DLSS 3.5 technology. AI really is an all-consuming thing, huh? Let's jump into the details. The Acer Nitro V AI comes in three different sizes: 15 inches, 16 inches, and 17 inches. Personally, I'm a big fan of various size options, as some folks will prefer the more portable 15-inch variety while others may want the bigger 17-inch display for maximum immersion. The top-tier configurations of the Acer Nitro V 16 AI and the Acer Nitro V 17 AI come loaded with an AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 processor, which is based on the latest Zen 5 architecture and both faster and more power-efficient than previous Zen 4 CPUs. They also feature RTX 4050 graphics with Nvidia's DLSS 3.5 tech. But what does that mean exactly? Simply put, Nvidia's DLSS 3.5 works to upscale graphics using a neural network. It makes your games look prettier and more lifelike by improving the quality of ray-traced frames. This process is called Ray Reconstruction and you can read more about it here. Nvidia DLSS 3.5 is useful if you're really into games with ray tracing, like Cyberpunk 2077. As for resolutions and refresh rates, each laptop model has slight differences. The Nitro V 17 AI, for example, has a 17.3-inch display with a 2560×1440 resolution and 165Hz refresh rate. The Nitro V 16 AI, on the other hand, rocks a 16-inch panel with a 2560×1600 resolution and 180Hz refresh rate. Given those numbers, you can expect fluid gameplay and sharp-looking pictures either way. The Acer Nitro V 15 AI has multiple configurations in itself, with the top-tier version equipped with an AMD Ryzen 7 8845HX CPU instead of the AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 CPU. It also has a lower resolution display (1920×1080) and a smaller battery (57 watt-hours as opposed to 76 watt-hours). The RTX 4050 graphics card remains the same, though. The Acer Nitro V 16 AI and the Acer Nitro V 17 AI are set to release in July 2025, and the Acer Nitro V 15 AI will launch in February 2025. No word on the pricing yet, but we've reached out to Acer for that information and will update this article accordingly once we hear back.

Acer's Nitro V laptops are perfectly priced for my sad post-Christmas bank balance | Stuff
These entry-level gaming notebooks pack older GPUs to boost affordability The holiday period can leave us feeling a little light in the pocket, but Acer's CES showing brings glad tidings for thrifty PC gamers in search of cheap new hardware. The Acer Nitro V series is an entire new range of entry-level gaming laptops, available in multiple screen sizes and configurations. Not to mention each comes with three months of Microsoft's PC Game Pass included, so there's no need to shell out anything on games until well into the new year. Leading the line are the Nitro V AI models, available in 14in, 16in and 17in editions and powered by new AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 processors. This Zen 5 silicon is designed with AI efficiency and low power consumption in mind, so expect a slick experience when using generative AI or AI-based games, plus decent battery life. These models are kitted out with Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 Laptop GPUs - which if rumours are accurate should become 'last-gen' pretty much overnight, as Nvidia is gearing up to debut its 5000 series graphics chips. Still, the 4050 is a known commodity, meaning it'll be sufficient for sticking at 1080p gaming. It supports ray tracing for fancy lighting effects, and DLSS upscaling for those looking to run Cyberpunk 2077 with everything turned up to 'ultra'. Buyers will be able to configure their models with up to 32GB of DDR5 SDRAM, up to 2TB of SSD storage and LCD screens ranging from 1920×1080 to 2560×1600, depending on the model. The top-of-the-range Nitro V 17 AI will be available in North America from July and the rest of the world from June, starting at $1200/€1299, while the cheapest model, the Nitro V 14 AI, will be available in North America from July and the rest of the world from April, priced from $1100/€1099. Available alongside these laptops will be the slightly inferior Acer Nitro V 15 AI (pictured above, and powered by older AMD Ryzen 7 processors) and the Acer Nitro V 15 (powered by an Intel Core 7 or Core 5 processor and Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 Laptop GPU). These will be the most affordable models in the series, starting at $950/€849.

MSI unveils RTX 50 Series-powered laptop line at CES
The Titan, Raider, Vector, and Stealth series are being improved and enhanced. With Nvidia lifting the curtain on a whole slate of new powerful GPUs, specifically known as the RTX 50 Series, it's of absolutely no surprise that various computer and laptop makers around the world are utilising the enhanced technology to improve their various models and line-ups. One that is embracing this is MSI, who during CES has now revealed RTX 50 Series-powered Titan, Raider, Vector, and Stealth models. Specifically, it's the Titan 18 HX AI, Raider 18 HX AI, Raider A18 HX, Vector A18 HX, Vector 16 HX AI, Vector 17 HX AI, Stealth 18 HX AI, Stealth A18 AI+, and the Stealth A16+ that will offer either RTX 5080 or RTX 5090 GPU options. We're told that this new generation of graphics card will enable these devices to new horsepower heights, graphical fidelity, performance and speed, and partly thanks to the support of DLSS 4 that claims to be able to generate images at "unprecedented speed". These new models will also be complemented by either an Intel or AMD CPU, specifically the latest iterations of their CPUs, be it the Intel Core Ultra Series 2 or the AMD Ryzen AI 300 or the Ryzen 9000 Series. With more powerful components in mind, MSI has also discussed the improved cooling solution these new models will utilise. We're promised an SSD heat pipe that can reduce SSD temperatures by up to 10 degrees Celsius to ensure more consistent transfer speeds and also to make these laptops ready for the Super RAID 5 technology that combines Gen5 and Gen4 SSDs to reach a read speed of a whopping 18,000MB/s. As per the AI elements, the MSI AI Robot technology further incorporates artificial intelligence into the gadgets to enhance its functionality, and all without requiring internet connection to work as intended. To mark this new era of computer and laptop technology, MSI has created a special edition Titan 18 HX known as the Dragon Edition Norse Myth, which features 3D hand-drawn dragon and Nordic motifs to reflect the power of the gadget in question. Otherwise, for those looking for a laptop that is less gaming-tailored, the new business and productivity line known as the Venture or the VenturePro is the one to look at. These laptops come in 14" and 17" variants, are fitted with the latest CPUs and a discrete GPU, has superior cooling, lower heat and noise levels, and are designed to be able to handle creative tasks with ease. What differentiates the Venture and the VenturePro is that the latter has a boosted battery that claims to last around 4-5 hours longer. It should also be said that the Pulse and Crosshair line has been enhanced to support an RTX 5070, but the exact details on these laptops have yet to be elaborated on. The exact pricing and release date for these new gadgets has yet to be revealed.

MSI launches six new 18-inch gaming laptops at CES
MSI is going big this CES, with six new 18-inch gaming laptops being unveiled in Las Vegas this week. These models span the full high-performance range, covering both Intel and AMD configurations with optional AI enhancements built in. The MSI Titan, Raider, Vector, and Stealth lines are all seeing refreshes, with the latest processors and RTX 50-Series graphics cards leading the way. Considering these are already some of the best gaming laptops in the business, these beasts are only getting better. On the Intel side, MSI has plugged the latest Core Ultra 200HX and 200H processors into its 2025 lineup, with all their integrated NPU performance. Meanwhile, it's the Ryzen 9000HX series taking up the flagship in the majority of this week's AMD announcements. That leaves only a few rigs sporting the red team's Ryzen AI 300 Series processors - a powerful chip that revs up to 50 TOPS for an incredibly efficient processing system. That's an odd play for a lineup that seems so laser-focused on AI processes, but for now, we've only got specs on paper. The MSI Titan 18 HX was among the most powerful gaming laptops I tested last year (bested only by the Raider). 2025's iteration doubles down on that performance, with Intel's Core Ultra 9 275HX processor and either an RTX 5080 or RTX 5090 GPU. Those GPUs are running at top pelt as well, with the brand's OverBoost Ultra tech pushing up to 270W of total power. The MSI Titan 18 HX AI comes armed with the same 18-inch UHD display that we saw in the previous generation, while also upgrading its connectivity with two Thunderbolt 5 ports. Strangely, the MSI Raider 18 HX beat the Titan in my testing last year, and with two new models hitting the shelves in 2025, the brand is leaning into its classic chunkster. The MSI Raider 18 HX AI and the MSI Raider A18 HX look similar in name, but their processors set them far apart. The Raider 18 HX AI leans into, you guessed it, Intel's AI-powered Core Ultra 9 275HX processor while the A18 HX takes a more traditional route with its AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX3D CPU. That Intel processor means the HX AI benefits from Thunderbolt 5 support, whereas the AMD build sticks to older Thunderbolt 4-compatible USB4 Type-C ports, but both models sport Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 GPUs. CES 2025 marks the first ever 18-inch MSI Vector machine, a slightly cheaper rig packed with the latest Fire Range AMD Zen 5 processors (and an older Ryzen 9 8945HX option). With its RTX 5070 Ti GPU, this is one of the few mid-range specs on the show floor this year. The Vector's display is knocked down a peg compared to the traditionally more premium Raider and Titan, packing a fairly standard QHD+, 240Hz panel. It's still good to see a Thunderbolt 4 entry, though, especially considering this could be one of the most high-value picks once those prices start to drop. Both the new MSI Stealth 18 HX AI and MSI Stealth A18 AI+ look to be the most versatile of the brand's CES 18-inch lineup. This is a simple Intel / AMD split, with the former packing an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU and the latter sticking with the fantastic AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. That's a processor that's proven its worth even in cheaper configurations, and a must-see in slimline machines like the Stealth. Both configurations come with a 4K option (a MiniLED at 120Hz) but can also be specced up for speed with a QHD+ panel at 240Hz. GPUs span RTX 5070 Ti to RTX 5090, the largest range of MSI's CES laptop lineup, though that Intel model does benefit from Thunderbolt 4 as well.
