Acer just revealed a stupidly powerful Chromebook convertible
The company has also revealed two new Chromeboxes and the Swift Air 16 lightweight Windows laptop. IFA 2025 kicks off this week, and Acer isn't wasting any time. The PC maker has just announced a variety of new Chrome OS devices and PCs ahead of the annual tech expo. Perhaps the most notable Chrome OS device is the aluminum-clad Chromebook Plus Spin 514, which features the MediaTek Kompanio Ultra 910 chipset. This processor is basically the Dimensity 9400 flagship chip for smartphones, but with a slightly downgraded GPU. Otherwise, it still has one heavy-lifting Cortex-X925 CPU core, three Cortex-X4 cores, and four Cortex-A720 cores. In plain English, the Chromebook Plus Spin 514 is one of the most powerful Arm-based Chromebooks on the market. Acer is also using the chip's powerful NPU for a few on-device AI tasks, like generative image editing and "real-time task automation." Otherwise, you can also expect some built-in Google AI features (e.g., Lens integration) and a dedicated Quick Insert key for quick access to tools, image generation, and more. Other notable features on this convertible include a 14-inch touchscreen (1800p at 60Hz or 1200p at 120Hz) with USI 2.0 stylus support, a 70Wh battery with up to 17 hours of juice, up to 16GB of RAM, and up to 256GB of UFS storage. You should also expect Bluetooth 5.4, Wi-Fi 7, a 5MP or 1080p webcam, and an optional fingerprint scanner. Acer says the Chromebook Plus Spin 514 will be available in North America and EMEA regions from next month. Expect a starting price of $699.99 in the US. Looking for a desktop Chrome OS experience? Acer has also revealed two new Chromeboxes. The Chromebox CXI6 (see first image above) is evidently the more premium offering, with chip choices ranging from an Intel Core i3-1305U all the way to a Core i7 150U. It also features up to 16GB of RAM and up to 256GB of M.2 storage. This Chromebox also brings a slew of ports, including five USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, two HDMI ports, a DisplayPort, an SD card slot, a 2.5G LAN port, and an M.2 slot for the Wi-Fi module (and one for the SSD). This is rounded out by Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6E support. Want something cheaper or a silent design? Acer also offers the fanless Chromebox Mini CXM2. Expect more modest core specs, such as an Intel N150 to N350 chip, up to 16GB of RAM, and up to 128GB of eMMC storage. This Chromebox also has a decent variety of ports, including five USB-A ports, two HDMI ports, a USB-C port (USB 3.2 Gen 2), and a gigabit Ethernet port. It also brings Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6E connectivity. The Chromebox CX16 launches in December in the US for $519.99. Meanwhile, the Chromebox Mini CXM2 will be available in North America in Q1 2026 at a starting price of $329.99. The venerable brand also announced the Acer Swift Air 16 today, a slim and light Windows laptop with Copilot Plus branding. In fact, the IPS variant weighs 0.99kg (2.18 pounds), while the OLED model weighs 1.1kg (2.43 pounds). Expect your choice of 16-inch screen, as you can choose between a 1,920 x 1,200 60Hz IPS display or a 2,880 x 1,800 120Hz OLED panel. Otherwise, the Acer Swift Air 16 earns its Copilot Plus designation thanks to the AMD Ryzen 300 series chips (from Ryzen AI 5 300 to Ryzen AI 7 350). The designation means you have access to features like Microsoft's polarizing Recall tool and the Google Lens-style Click To Do feature. The new laptop also has up to 32GB of RAM, up to 1TB of SSD storage, a 50Wh battery capable of up to 13 hours of video playback, and a 2MP webcam. In terms of I/O, you should expect Bluetooth 5.4, Wi-Fi 6E, two USB-C ports, a full-sized USB-A port, and an HDMI out. Acer hasn't revealed US availability or pricing details for the Swift Air 16, but it'll be available in EMEA markets in November at a starting price of €999 (~$1,163).

Acer latest Chromebook Plus laptop joins Google's AI wave
Powered by MediaTek's flagship Chromebook chip, Acer's latest laptop is one of the first to feature on-device AI. Today at IFA in Berlin, Acer announced an exciting addition to its Chromebook lineup. It's the first Acer Chromebook to showcase MediaTek's new Kompanio Ultra 910 chip and all of ChromeOS' newfangled AI capabilities, and it's called the new Chromebook Plus Spin 514. This is a big deal because Chromebooks (like the Lenovo Chromebook 14) are starting to wade into the on-device AI pool-Acer's the latest to join. Now let's dive right into it. The real star of the show here is the Kompanio Ultra 910, an eight-core Arm chip paired with MediaTek's NPU 890, which can crank out up to 50 TOPS of AI performance. As far as the CPU goes, it's got one ultra-performance core, three performance cores, and four efficiency cores. We reviewed the Lenovo Chromebook 14 with the new Kompanio chip a while back, and we were delighted by the performance gains. Heck, we even tried Minecraft on it and gameplay was surprisingly smooth. Beyond the chip, the Acer Plus Spin 514 leans into Google AI features. This makes things like searches, workflow, writing, and content creation feel quick and responsive. Smart Grouping keeps tabs and docs organized, especially useful if you're a chaotic person like me, and Gallery Image Generation lets you play around with on-device AI image editing. You get a 14-inch Gorilla Glass touchscreen, with your pick of a crisp 1920×1200 panel or an even sharper 2880×1800. Both are smooth with multi-touch and play nicely with USI 2.0 styluses. And with its convertible design, it easily flips into whatever you need-ideal for doodling or jotting down notes. Acer claims up to 17 hours of battery life, and I wouldn't be surprised if we did in fact see that magic number (we've seen batteries last 24+ hours before). The 1920×1200 touchscreen model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS storage will be available this month with a starting price of $699.99. The higher-tier configuration featuring a 14-inch 2880×1800 (60Hz) display and 16GB of RAM will also launch in September, starting at $749.99.

Acer announce new laptops, tablets and monitors at IFA 2025 and everything is AI-focused
IFA Berlin This story is part of our coverage of IFA Berlin 2025 Updated less than 6 minutes ago What's happened? Acer has announced a range of new devices at IFA 2025 including new laptops, tablets and monitors. These span from gaming devices right down to a brand new flagship laptop in the form of the Swift Air 16 laptop all of which are geared towards AI usage. The New Swift Air 16 - Ultralight Copilot+ PC will weight less than 1kg. Acer is also unveiling a brand new hybrid gaming laptop called the Predator Helios 18P AI as well as new gaming desktops and monitors. Portable monitors and new ultralight tablets paired with keyboards and stylus' are also being added to the Acer line up. Why is this important? This range of new products are advancing technology even further with more innovation and the implementation of AI. Acer's latest laptop, the Swift Air 16 will feature an AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series processor as well as AMD graphics, allowing for powerful AI usage. The Predator Helios 18P AI allows for desktop level AI computing thanks to the Intel Core Ultra 9 Processor 285HX with Intel vPro and the accompanying NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090. A range of other new products from the Acer launch, including tablets, monitors and Wi-Fi routers also include AI-enabled features that enhance everyday experiences. Recommended Videos Why should I care? As AI becomes more popular and accessible to the many, ensuring you have an AI ready laptop or device if you hope to use these features is increasingly important. If you're hoping to use AI features on your laptop or tablet, then having an AI ready device can ensure you have the right level of processing power to complete these tasks. Asking AI to generate images, generate videos or other creative prompts can require a lot of processing power. If you're hoping to access AI on the go, then picking up a tablet that is geared towards AI can make a massive difference over your standard tablet.

I tried Acer's mammoth new gaming laptop and caught a glimpse of some benchmarks
IFA Berlin This story is part of our coverage of IFA Berlin 2025 Updated less than 11 minutes ago IFA season is finally here, and typically that means a whole load of new laptops break cover, and IFA 2025 is no different. With Acer announcing an entire range of new AI-focused products in Berlin, I was able to try out its all new hybrid gaming laptop. I even managed to catch a sneak peak of some of the benchmarks. The Acer Predator Helios 18P AI is an incoming top-of-the-line gaming laptop - or as Acer prefers to brand it, a "hybrid laptop". Recommended Videos It features some pretty beefy specifications to challenge the best gaming laptops out there, and it's physically beefy to match, coming in at a mega 3.5kg (7.7 lbs). You get an Intel Core Ultra 9 Processor 285HX with Intel vPro, which provides you with top tier performance for both gaming and productivity. Paired with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 GPU, it's an absolute powerhouse. Better yet, you can get up to 192GB of RAM in the Predator Helios 18P AI - yes you read that right, ONE HUNDRED AND NINTY TWO GIGS. I don't know what reason a person would ever need this much RAM, but the option is still there. It's worth noting the memory is EEC, which actively detects and corrects common types of data corruption - making it ideal for professions where data integrity is fundamental, reducing the risk of system crashing or silent data corruption. The dumbbell of laptops When first lifting the laptop, my hands started straining because I just wasn't expecting it to be as heavy as it was. I couldn't imagine lugging this laptop to the office every day, let alone having to throw the charger in my bag too. Alongside the weight, the Predator Helios 18P AI is also very large. Coming in at 40.1 x 30.8 x 3.0 cm (W x D x H) this laptop is absolutely huge and actually larger than the majority of standard laptop bags. Something worth noting is that the chassis is a fingerprint magnet, wherever you touch from the lid to the palm rest became covered in fingerprints. In terms of other design factors, the keyboard features the typical aggressive gamer font as well as RGB elements which also contribute to the gamer aesthetic. When typing on the keyboard, it didn't feel all too satisfying with squidgy keys. I can't imagine it would be the best for gaming either. The 18-inch 4K screen is beautiful. However, there's a small downside as it's not OLED - which I'm still holding out for becoming industry standard soon enough. Instead the screen is mini-LEDs which are still lovely to look at, but don't blow me away. Despite only having a short hands-on session, I wanted to put the laptop through its paces so I tried out some AI generation using Microsoft Copilot. The generation still took a long while despite these specifications, which was slightly disappointing. Unfortunately I wasn't able to actually try out any gaming during my hands-on time, which was a let down. However, just from general usage like web browsing and simple AI prompts, the laptop did get quite loud. While no games were installed on the laptop, Geekbench 6 was and a benchmark had recently been ran... so I decided to take a peek. Here are the results: Acer Predator PH18-73 Geekbench 6 results: Single-Core Score: 2706 Multi-Core Score: 17131 These results are on the high end of standard for laptops with these specifications. Early verdict Overall, Acer's new hybrid laptop - if you can even call it that - provides you with some amazing specifications but at the cost of your back, because it will be hurting lugging this device around. It certainly is hybrid in terms of performance and specifications, though I wouldn't refer to it as commuter-friendly. If you're looking for a laptop which allows you to game and have high productivity performance, particularly for AI tasks, the Predator Helios 18P AI might be for you - but keep in mind it'll physically weigh you down.

I picked up Acer's new laptop and couldn't believe there was anything inside
IFA Berlin This story is part of our coverage of IFA Berlin 2025 Updated less than 6 minutes ago With IFA 2025 in full swing, it only makes sense that we see an influx of brand new laptops being announced. Leading the charge right now is Acer with its range of new AI-focused products and at the forefront is its new flagship model, the Acer Swift Air 16. I managed to snag some hands-on time with Acer's latest laptop, which advertises itself as ultra lightweight, and not only does it live up to this promise, but surpasses it ten-fold, being one of the lightest 16-inch devices I've ever used. Recommended Videos When picking it up, I genuinely couldn't believe there were components inside, it felt like an empty case. Weighing in at 999 grams if you opt for an IPS screen or 1099g if you go for an AMOLED panel (or 2.2lbs), this is a device you wont feel in your backpack. Somehow packed in this device are some pretty meaty specifications including up to an AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 processor. This is a fantastic CPU for productivity, enabling enhanced AI responsiveness. Alongside this CPU are AMD graphics and up to 32GB of RAM making for a powerhouse of a machine no matter what you plan to use the device for. Redefining lightweight In terms of design, the first thing I noticed about the Acer Swift Air 16 - aside from the weight of course - was the keyboard. The flat keys have no gaps between them, which is certainly a... style choice for sure. This is something you'll either love or hate and as someone who has tested countless laptops, I decided I hate it. It doesn't feel satisfying to type on, and makes it easy to fat finger keys and make typos. Aside from the keyboard, the design of this laptop is pretty sleek. You get a smooth silver casing, and a thin bezel around the screen - disturbed only by the webcam at the top of the device which protrudes slightly. The 16-inch screen is gorgeous, you get the choice between AMOLED (which makes for a heavier device) or IPS which is what I had hands-on with. Despite not being OLED, the IPS panel still looked great. You get a 2880 x 1800 resolution panel as well as 120Hz refresh rate. I only had a short hands-on session, but I wanted to see what this laptop had to offer in terms of power. I decided to try to generate an image on Microsoft Copilot to see how it would cope with AI tasks. When asking for an image to be created, it took a while despite the powerful AI processor inside, which was a tad disappointing. While using the AI features or just general browsing on this laptop, it stayed very cool and very quiet the whole time - making it perfect for using on the go and also being a nod towards the efficiency. Unfortunately as this was only a hands on demo, I wasn't able to put the devices through its paces with real world testing or benchmarking. This means I don't have a true indication of its power levels or battery life but I'm looking forward to testing the device thoroughly for a full review in the future. Early verdict Overall, this laptop blew me away. When first picking it up, I genuinely thought that the device was a dummy model put out for the show rather than an actual functioning laptop. While the Asus Zenbook 14 also weighs less than a kilo, this is the first 16 inch laptop I've used which is this light. If you're looking for a laptop to take on the go with you, this is the one, you won't even notice its in your bag. The specifications are quite powerful, but with my limited demo session I wasn't able to see the true capabilities of this CPU. From what I've seen so far, it seems good, but is nothing spectacular.

Acer's Chromebook Plus Spin 514 might be the best Chrome OS 2-in-1 yet | Stuff
The luxury Chromebook renaissance has truly begun. First Lenovo impressed with what's arguably the nicest Chrome OS laptop since Google's own Pixelbook, and now Acer is doing the same thing for convertibles. Being able to switch into tablet mode for Android apps could make the Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 514 the pick of the bunch. Revealed at IFA in Berlin, the 14in ultraportable has a 360-degree hinge that'll let you swivel between laptop, tent and tablet. It weighs a paltry 1.36kg and is just 15.5mm at its thickest point, while the all-aluminium chassis should appeal to commuting office workers as well as Chrome OS' traditional student audience. Acer says the whole thing is MIL-STD 810H rated, meaning it can suck up a stumble from desk-height onto a hard floor, and won't be fazed by extreme temperature shifts. There are two versions of the Chromebook Plus Spin 514 in the works: one aimed at enterprise and the other for regular joes. Each will come in a few flavours of screen, letting you pick between a high resolution 2800×1800 panel or a slightly lower-res 1920×1200. Both are touchscreens, have a work-friendly 16:10 aspect ratio, and an anti-fingerprint coating on top of Corning Gorilla Glass, but only the 1200p option has a smoother 120Hz refresh rate. They both play nicely with a digital stylus. Other hardware goodies include a backlit keyboard, 5MP webcam (on certain models) and a generous amount of ports for such a slender machine. You get twin USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-Cs for power delivery and display out, two USB 3.2 Gen 1s, and a 3.5mm headphone port. MediaTek provides the power, courtesy of a Kompanio Ultra chipset paired with up to 16GB of RAM and as much as 256GB of storage. The 70Whr battery should be able to last as long as 17 hours per charge, which gives ARM-powered Windows laptops (which cost a whole lot more cash) a run for their money. As a Chromebook Plus, the Spin 514 gets all of Google's latest AI upgrades, including Search with Lens (the laptop version of Android's Circle to Search) on-device generative image editing, and a Gemini prompt pretty much anywhere you right click. Buyers also qualify for 12 months of Google AI Pro subscription, which includes 2TB of Google Drive storage. The Chromebook Plus Spin 514 will hit the US and Europe in October, with prices starting at $700/€699. That puts it in spitting distance of the touchscreen-equipped Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14

The laptop is available in two different configurations, with the superior one offering a 14-inch WQXGA+ panel, up to 16 GB LPDDR5X memory, and several essential features. Now coming to the more interesting releases, Acer has also unveiled the Predator Helios 18P AI laptop, which features Intel's Arrow Lake-HX platform onboard, particularly the high-end Core Ultra 9 285HX processor. The Predator Helios 18P AI offers an 18-inch mini-LED 4K panel, along with up to 192 GB ECC memory. The Helios 18P AI laptop is a powerful machine, and to cool it down, Acer has integrated dual 6th Gen AeroBlade metal fans, which are claimed to be the world's thinnest fan blades in such a device. Apart from this, you are looking at support for Thunderbolt 4 Type-C, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.2 connections as well, which means that the laptop doesn't compromise in terms of performance and user experience. The on-paper specifications position the Helios 18P AI laptop as one of the fastest, rivaling the likes of MSI and ASUS. Finally, Acer has also refreshed the Nitro lineup, and the Acer Nitro V 16 is now infused with Intel's Arrow Lake-H platform. The laptop features up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 270H processor, along with NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5070 laptop GPU. The 16-inch panel onboard features a 2560x1600 resolution with 100% sRGB color coverage and a 180 Hz refresh rate. The Acer Nitro V 16 features up to 32 GB DDR5-5600 memory and up to 2 TB SSD as well, making it a decent option if you are looking for a capable product, but not too high-end. Here's how the pricing of the above four laptops is in the EMEA region:
