October Prime Day tablet deals discount Amazon's Fire HD 8 to $55
The company's newest slate has AI tools, an improved camera and a $55 sale price for a limited time. Amazon updated its Fire HD 8 lineup last week and has promptly discounted the slates for its October Prime Day sale. The new slab has more RAM, a better camera setup and built-in AI features to make it different from its predecessor. The device will normally start at $100 (with lock-screen ads), but Amazon is now selling the base model for $55 through October 9. An upgraded configuration with more memory and storage is also on sale for $85, down from its $130 MSRP. As its name suggests, the new Fire HD 8 has an 8-inch display with a 1280 x 800 resolution (189 ppi). One of the 2024 model's big upgrades is having 3GB of RAM in the base storage tier (32GB). The 64GB variant, meanwhile, slides up to 4GB of RAM. Of course, this is very much a budget tablet, so those aren't close to barrier-breaking numbers. But it's still 50 to 100 percent higher than the 2GB of RAM in the 2022 model. Amazon rates the Fire HD 8 for up to 13 hours of battery life. The tablet's rear camera is 5MP. (That's the same as the "Plus" version of its 2022 predecessor, but it's higher than the 2MP in the old standard version.) The tablets also include some generative AI capabilities. Like Apple's early take on AI in its 2024 updates, these include a Writing Assist feature that can jot out messages based on prompts. It can also summarize web pages, make grammar suggestions and tweak brevity. There are two kids' versions of the tablet as well: the Fire HD 8 Kids and Fire HD 8 Kids Pro. As you'd expect from Amazon's child-focused variants, these versions will include a "kid-proof" case in Disney-branded designs (including Pixar Cars, Disney Princess or Marvel Avengers). They also come with a subscription to Amazon Kids+, the company's content delivery service (including mobile games!) for the kiddos. Between the two, the Kids version has a thicker case built for younger tykes, while the Kids Pro has a slimmer hard case designed for older children. Both Kids tablets will typically cost $140 but are currently down to $70 for Prime Day.

Amazon has dropped a new Fire HD 8 tablet -- and it's already on sale for October Prime Day
UPDATE: Oct. 8, 2024, 5:00 a.m. EDT This story has been updated with current pricing and availability. Amazon has released another wave of official offers for Prime Big Deal Days, its members-only "October Prime Day" sale (set for Oct. 8 and 9) -- and among its selection of tablet deals is a heavily discounted new Fire HD 8. Quietly announced in an Oct. 2 post on the About Amazon blog, the refreshed 8-inch tablet features more RAM and a better camera than the previous model from 2022. Amazon has also equipped it with several new generative AI features, which "all compatible Fire tablets" will start supporting later this month. It starts at $99.99 with 32GB of storage, a $30 drop from its predecessors' sticker price, but it's on sale for just $54.99 through the end of Prime Big Deal Days. The new Fire HD 8 is one of nine Fire tablets that are currently sitting at all-time lows in the lead-up to the 48-hour savings event. That includes four of Amazon's flagship tablets and five models that are specially designed for kids. (These come with age-appropriate content, parental controls, a protective case, a two-year worry-free guarantee, and at least six months' worth of Amazon Kids+.) Elsewhere, we've also spotted record lows on two Apple iPads, including the new 13-inch, M4-powered iPad Pro. These deals aren't technically included in Amazon's formal pre-Prime Big Deal Days programming, but the size of their discounts makes them worth mentioning. Amazon's live discounts across the Samsung Galaxy Tab line-up are far less exciting -- none of them were close to their previous record lows at the time of writing -- and there were zero Google Pixel tablets on sale there when we last checked. As such, we don't recommend buying any of those models at present, but we'll still be keeping a close eye on them: They'll probably get much cheaper once Prime Big Deal Days begins next week. Below, we've gone into more detail on the early October Prime Day tablet deals that are actually worth it. Note: Deals marked with a 🔥 have dropped to an all-time low price. The new Fire HD 8 has the same display, processor, 13-hour battery life, and storage options as the older model, but Amazon's added a gig of extra RAM for "enhanced performance while streaming, gaming, browsing, or downloading photos and videos." (Don't expect it to be super powerful, but more memory never anyone.) Its rear camera has also gotten a bump from 2MP to 5MP, which should translate to slightly better shots. On the software side, its newly added generative AI features include Writing Assist, Webpage Summaries, and a Wallpaper Creator. No need to upgrade if you already own the previous model, but those in need of a new portable, affordable tablet should consider short-listing this guy. The 32GB base model is on sale for $54.99 through Oct. 9 (the second half of Prime Big Deal Days), which works out to a 45% savings. Read Mashable's full review of the 13-inch Apple iPad Pro (M4). The latest iPad Pro is a beefy tablet for creative professionals that's powered by the lightning-fast M4 chip, which Apple hasn't used in any MacBooks yet (though that's rumored to be changing later this fall). Mashable tech editor Kim Gedeon gave it a 4.5/5 rating, which nabbed it a Mashable Choice Award, praising its "power efficiency, striking [tandem OLED] display, and breakneck performance." Note that it lasted more than six hours longer than its rated battery life in our testing. At $1,198, or $101 off, this is the 256GB base configuration's lowest price on Amazon since launch. Amazon's updated Fire HD 8 tablet with better performance is already on sale for Prime Day
It has AI tools, a better camera and a $55 sale price for a limited time. Amazon updated its Fire HD 8 lineup on Wednesday. The 2024 version of the budget tablet has more RAM, a better rear camera and some built-in AI. The device, which will usually start at $100 (with lock-screen ads), is already on sale for October Prime Day. As its name suggests, the new Fire HD 8 has an 8-inch display with a 1280 x 800 resolution (189 ppi). One of the 2024 model's big upgrades is 3GB of RAM in the base storage tier (32B). There's a New Amazon Fire Tablet, and It's Already 45% Off
We're still a week away from Prime Big Deal Days. Still, Amazon just can't help itself. The company is now offering an upgraded line of Fire HD 8 tablets, all with limited-time discounts of 45-50%. The 2024 Fire HD 8 is an incremental upgrade. It's got the same screen, processor, and battery life as its predecessor, the 2022 Fire HD 8. There are just two improvements: a new 5MP rear camera and an extra gigabyte of RAM. In other words, the standard 32GB model of 2024 Fire HD 8 comes with 3GB of RAM. While this is a decent upgrade for Fire Tablet owners, I think that the "Plus" configuration is a more compelling option -- it costs just $30 extra but comes with 64GB of storage and 4GB of memory. Amazon is also taking this opportunity to announce three AI tools for its tablets -- Writing Assist, Webpage Summaries, and Wallpaper Creator. These are all pretty self-explanatory. Writing Assist generates text on the fly within any app, Webpage Summaries give you an AI-generated summary of any web page (though this only works in the Silk browser), and Wallpaper Creator spits out wallpaper images based on natural language prompts. Amazon hasn't clarified whether AI tasks are processed on-device or in the cloud. I assume that it's a mix of both, as AI functionality will be limited to the Fire HD 8, Fire HD 10, and Fire MAX 11 (all of which have 3GB or 4GB of RAM) when it begins rolling out later this month. We've asked Amazon for additional information and will update this article if we receive a response. You can buy the 2024 Fire HD 8 today at the discounted price of just $55. Again, I suggest that you look into the "Plus" configuration, as it gives you twice the onboard storage and 4GB of memory. The new Fire HD 8 is also available in Kids Edition and Kids Pro flavors, though an "adult" Pro model is yet to be announced. Source: Amazon

Amazon announces upgraded Fire HD 8 tablets powered by AI
Amazon has announced a new Fire HD 8 tablet. It's a refresh of the Fire HD 8 tablet that last saw an upgrade in 2022. Like seemingly every single tech device produced this year, the latest Amazon tablet is arriving with generative AI-powered tools. However, if you don't want to pick up a new tablet, the Fire HD 10 and Fire Max 11 will also be getting these AI tools. The AI tools include a writing assist feature meant to polish up writing, which is part of the tablet's keyboard. It also has AI summaries in the Amazon Silk web browser and AI image generation for wallpapers. Amazon says in their announcement that the tools will land on "all compatible Fire tablets later this month." One of the things that we dinged the 2022 version of the Fire HD 8 tablet for was slow performance, though it did make our best cheap tablets list for what you get at the $100 price point. The 2024 upgrade gets 3GB of RAM, up from 2GB in the earlier version. This should help with the AI features. It also has a 5MP back camera, up from 2MP. Amazon is promising 13 hours of battery life. There are two storage capacity versions, a 32GB or a 64GB one, plus the ability to expand it with a microSD card. The 2024 Fire 8 HD is available in black, emerald and hibiscus with a starting price of $99.99. It's available right now, and Amazon already has it on sale for $54.99 ahead of the October Prime Big Deal Days.

Amazon Refreshes Fire HD 8 Tablets With More RAM, AI Features
Amazon is refreshing its Fire HD 8 tablets ahead of Prime Big Deal Days with some AI enhancements and a few spec upgrades. Amazon teased a trio of AI features coming to its 8-inch tablet. That includes Writing Assist, which promises "help refining a message or finessing a tricky email." Available as part of the keyboard, Writing Assist works "across any app on your Fire tablet, including e-mail, Word documents, and social media, so you can enhance your writing with just a few taps." On the tablet's Silk browser, Amazon's AI can summarize web pages, while Wallpaper Creator will create custom backgrounds from a text prompt. These AI features won't be limited to the new Fire HD 8 lineup, however. Amazon says you can expect them on compatible Fire tablets later this month. We reached out to Amazon to confirm which tablets; The Verge says the HD 10 and Fire Max 11. AI requires more processing power, so the new Fire HD 8 tablets get a RAM boost -- 3GB on the 32GB version and 4GB on the 64GB version, up from 2GB on the previous version. There's also a 5MP rear-facing camera on both models, up from 2MP. Battery life is the same at up to 13 hours, as is the hexa-core 2GHz processor. Storage is expandable up to 1TB with a microSD card. The Fire HD 8 is available in Black, Hibiscus, or Emerald. It starts at $99.99, but you can save up to 45% if you order now through Oct. 9. The Fire HD 8 Kids and HD 8 Kids Pro are getting the same RAM upgrade and limited-time Prime Day discount. They are available and come in several colors and designs based on popular Disney, Pixar, and Marvel movies.

Amazon's new Fire tablets have AI inside
If you buy something from a Verge link, Vox Media may earn a commission. See our ethics statement. Amazon just announced a new Fire HD 8 tablet, and like many new gadgets in 2024, generative AI-powered tools are among the big new features. But you won't necessarily need to buy the new Fire HD 8 to try them; Amazon says they're coming to the Fire HD 10 and Fire Max 11 tablets, too. The new AI tools are things you've probably seen before. There's a writing assist feature, which will help you polish up your writing and is built into the device's keyboard. You'll be able to get webpage summaries when using Amazon's Silk browser. And you'll be able to create a wallpaper from a prompt. Amazon says the tools will start rolling out to "all compatible Fire tablets later this month." Amazon is also rumored to be launching an upgraded Alexa that you might have to pay for, but that wasn't included as part of this announcement. The new Fire HD 8 has some improved specs that seem to have trickled down from 2022's Fire 8 HD Plus, including 3GB of RAM (up from 2GB -- the boost might help with the new AI features) and a 5MP back camera (up from 2MP). Like with the previous Fire 8 HD, Amazon is also promising up to 13 hours of battery life and is offering 32GB or 64GB of storage (with the option to expand that with a microSD card). You can buy the new Fire 8 HD right now in black, emerald, and hibiscus. The tablets technically have a starting price of $99.99, but they're already on sale ahead of Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days, meaning you can get the base model for nearly half off at $54.99. Amazon might also launch updated Kindle e-readers soon, as a Spanish retailer recently listed a new-entry level model with a brighter screen.

Amazon Launches Fire HD 8 Tablet With Generative AI Features
It is available in three colourways: Black, Emerald and Hibiscus Amazon Fire HD 8 tablet was launched on Wednesday. It comes with 50 percent more RAM than its predecessor for improved performance, better cameras and up to 13 hours of battery life. Amazon's new lineup comprises three models: Fire HD 8, Fire HD 8 Kids and Fire HD 8 Kids Pro, with the latter two being kid-focussed models. The e-commerce giant says customers can get its latest tablet with up to 50 percent savings courtesy of its introductory pricing. Amazon Fire HD 8 tablet price starts at $54.99 for the 32GB storage model. It also comes in a 64GB option which costs $84.99. However, the e-commerce platform says this is just the introductory pricing valid until October 9, after which it will be revised to $99.99 and $129.99 for both models, respectively. The tablet is available in three colourways: Black, Emerald and Hibiscus. Amazon Fire HD 8 is equipped with an 8-inch HD display. It comes with up to 4GB of RAM, which is 50 percent more than its predecessor, and up to 64GB of in-built storage. The tablet is powered by a hexa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz. The latter is expandable up to 1TB via a microSD card. For optics, the tablet sports a 5-megapixel front selfie camera. The new Amazon tablet promises up to 13 hours of battery life on a single charge. Amazon Fire HD 8 tablet also boasts generative AI features. It gets a writing assistant which can help refine messages. It is said to be compatible with any app such as emails, Microsoft Word documents and even social media. Amazon says it will also offer web page summarisation via the Silk browser. Users will be able to get highlights and key points of the article. The tablet also brings new customisation options with the new Wallpaper Creator. Users can choose from one of the curated prompts or enter their own to enable the wallpaper's generation by leveraging generative AI.

Amazon is bringing AI-powered features to its tablets, and older models won't miss out
Amazon has just announced the new Fire HD 8 tablet and it has generative AI features built in. Even more exciting, however, is the news that older tablets dating back to as far as 2018 will get some AI tools, too. Amazon's AI tools are nothing groundbreaking, just your general writing tools and the ability to summarize webpages when using the Silk browser, but what's really cool is the company's approach to making AI accessible, unlike some of its competitors. Amazon's Writing Assist (proofreading, rewriting, etc) and Wallpaper Creator, which generates a wallpaper from a prompt, are coming to the Fire Max 11 (2023), Fire HD 10 (2023), and Fire HD (2022, 2024) later this month. Webpage Summaries will be available on the Fire Max 11 (2023), Fire HD 10 (2019, 2021, 2023), and Fire HD 8 (2018, 2020, 2022 and 2024). That means if you've got an older Fire HD tablet from 2018, you can still take advantage of AI, a stark contrast to Apple's Apple Intelligence approach, which only allows AI features like summaries on newer devices. In Amazon's launch video for the new Fire HD 8 (see above), the company showcased the AI features and they work exactly as you'd expect from generative AI on a 2024 tablet. Writing Assist lets you pick a tone of voice, rewrite, and proofread in apps such as Notes and Messages. Wallpaper Creator looks similar to the best AI image generators with the ability to create a wallpaper for your tablet from just a text prompt. It's pretty cool although you'll probably only use it once. Last but not least, Webpage Summaries enables you to quickly break down an online article into the most important information, which makes it a handy tool for quickly browsing the web. The 2024 tablet has 3GB RAM for the 32GB model and 4GB RAM for the 64GB model, 50% more than the 2022 model in order to process these AI features with ease. If you want to access these new Amazon AI tools but don't own an older Fire HD 8, you can pick up the 2024 model right now for £49.99/$54.99 in an early Amazon Prime Big Deal Days offer. Amazon Prime Big Deal Days takes place on October 8 and 9, following the event the Fire HD 8 (2024) will return to its £99.99/$99.99 RRP.

Amazon quietly launched three new Android tablets | Digital Trends
When Amazon launches a new tablet, there's usually quite a bit of fanfare -- but this time, the retail giant snuck out three new Fire HD 8 tablets: the Fire HD 8 (2024), Fire HD 8 Kids, and Fire HD 8 Kids Pro. These might sound like iterative improvements, but don't be fooled: Amazon has added some serious oomph to these tablets. The new Fire HD 8 tablets include a writing assistant that's built into the keyboard. Have you ever written something out and thought it lacked a certain pizazz? The assistant will help tighten up your text. The Amazon Silk browser also now has a feature that will summarize web pages so you get the gist of the message without reading the entire story, while another AI tool lets you create custom background images through a text prompt. Recommended Videos And if you thought the previous models were a little on the slow side, great news: the Fire HD 8 (2024) is getting a bump to its RAM. The base 32GB version will have 3GB of RAM, while the 64GB version will have a total of 4GB of RAM. While other tablets might have quite a bit more RAM, this is a pretty significant bump from the previous generation. Introducing new AI features on Amazon's Fire tablets The kid-focused tablets are relatively similar. They don't vary in terms of size, but they are focused at different age groups. The Fire HD 8 Kids is for little ones between three and seven years old, while the Fire HD 8 Kids Pro is aimed at kids between six and 12 years old. Both tablets also come with a 12-month subscription to Amazon Kids Plus. The launch of new Fire tablets is exciting, especially with the significant upgrades Amazon has given them. While they aren't a competitor for the iPad, these tablets offer a great low-cost alternative for anyone who wants an entertainment-focused tablet.

Amazon tablets are getting AI tools, like writing assist and automatic website summaries
These features are coming to the just-announced Fire HD 8 refresh and some older tablets. Did you think Amazon Fire tablets were exempt from generative AI tools? Think again. The company just that are rolling out to the just-announced Fire HD 8 refresh and a bunch of older models. None of these features are too surprising, but they seem useful and fun. There's something called Writing Assist, which is exactly what it sounds like. This tool integrates with the on-screen keyboard and should be compatible with any app on the tablet. It provides grammar assistance and will transform copy into a number of pre-set styles. This is a quick way to turn "what's up with my paycheck" into something a bit more professional. The appropriately-named Webpage Summaries offers up automatic summaries of websites. This tool will "distill the key points in an article or on a web page" to give concise summaries. Amazon says it will catch readers up to speed "in a matter of seconds." This kind of thing is generative AI 101, as there are plenty of pre-existing tools that mimic this functionality. Still, it's nice to have it native on Amazon tablets. Finally, there's Wallpaper Creator, which brings a chat prompt into the mix. Just type in what kind of background you want and let the power-hungry magic of AI do the work. Amazon says users can "choose from one of the curated prompts" or let their "imagination run wild." The company says the algorithm will create "unique, high-resolution" images that can be used as a tablet's wallpaper. All of these features will be available for the just-revealed Fire HD 8 refresh, but Amazon says they are also coming to other "compatible Fire tablets later this month." We reached out to the company and asked which Fire tablets are compatible and will update this post when we hear back. This isn't Amazon's only dip into the exciting world of artificial intelligence. The company recently unleashed a and is working on another chatbot . It has also been reported that Alexa will soon be getting an AI-centric makeover, .
