Anthropic's Claude can now read your Gmail | TechCrunch
Anthropic announced on Tuesday that its AI chatbot, Claude, now integrates with Google Workspace, allowing it to search and reference your emails in Gmail, scheduled events in Google Calendar, and documents in Google Docs. The integration is rolling out in beta first to subscribers to Anthropic's Max, Team, Enterprise, and Pro plans. Administrators managing multi-user accounts must enable the integration on their end before users can connect their Google Workspace and Claude accounts, according to Anthropic. Google DeepMind's Gemini chatbot also integrates with Workspace, and OpenAI's ChatGPT integrates with Google Drive. However, Anthropic is one of the first third-party AI companies to offer a way to closely connect to Google's productivity suite. Anthropic's team-up with Google aims to give Claude more personally tailored responses without requiring users to repeatedly upload files or craft detailed prompts. OpenAI and Google have tried achieving the same effect via different approaches, such as adding memory features that allow chatbots to reference past conversations in their replies. In a press release, Anthropic says Claude's new integration can help users organize their professional and personal lives. For example, Anthropic claims the feature can assist parents by scanning "emails and calendar events to highlight important commitments, while searching the web for updated school calendars, local community events, and weather forecasts that might affect family plans." Claude will provide in-line citations when it references Workspace content, showing users exactly where specific information originated, says Anthropic. While the integration doesn't give Claude the ability to schedule calendar events or send emails, it may raise security concerns among some users. It's unclear how extensively Claude will search through a person's Google Workspace, or whether users have to direct Claude to look at a particular email or calendar event depending on the nature of their request. It's also not clear whether users can ask Claude not to search across certain sensitive emails or files. Responding to the above, an Anthropic spokesperson told TechCrunch that the company doesn't train models on user data by default and has implemented "strict authentication and access control mechanisms" for external services like Workspace. "Each user or organization's connections to external services (like Google Drive, Gmail, etc.) are properly authenticated and authorized for only that specific user or organization," the spokesperson said in a statement. "Claude doesn't have the ability to access or transfer data between different users' connected services, as each connection is bound to the specific authentication credentials of that individual user or organization." Anthropic also announced on Tuesday the launch of Claude Research, a new feature that conducts multiple web searches to generate detailed answers. Positioned as a competitor to OpenAI and Google's "deep research" agents, Claude Research offers an "optimal tradeoff" between speed and comprehensiveness, Anthropic says. Claude Research typically runs for less than a minute to compile info, according to an Anthropic spokesperson -- faster than some rival deep research agents. However, Claude Research doesn't use a custom model, instead leveraging Claude's recently launched web search capabilities. The company is rolling out Claude Research to subscribers to its Max, Team, and Enterprise plans in the United States, Japan, and Brazil. It'll come to Pro customers soon, Anthropic says. These updates are part of Anthropic's broader effort to attract users to its AI subscription plans with features that make Claude more capable and useful. While Claude is growing in popularity, reaching 3.3 million web users in March, according to data compiled by SimilarWeb, Anthropic's user base is still dwarfed by ChatGPT's.

Anthropic launches research tool and Google Workspace integration
Anthropic is launching two major features today: Research and Google Workspace integration. The company announced today that Claude can now connect directly to your Gmail, Google Calendar, and Documents, turning the AI assistant into what Anthropic calls "your frontline workplace assistant." Instead of manually digging through countless emails, calendar invites, and documents to find information, Claude now does that work for you -- it can "pull together meeting notes from last week, identify action items from follow-up email threads, and search relevant documents for additional context" -- putting Claude in more direct competition with Microsoft's Copilot and similar workplace AI assistants.

Claude AI can do your research and handle your emails now - here's how
Anthropic's Claude AI has a couple of new features that aim to expand its power and reach. In a news release published Tuesday, Anthropic announced the beta launches of a new research tool and an integration with Gmail and Google Docs. In research mode, the AI can consult a variety of sources, including the web, to research your request and provide a detailed response. With the Google integration, you can ask Claude to analyze your Gmail emails, Google Calendar, and Google Docs files. Also: The tasks college students are using Claude AI for most, according to Anthropic But let's start with research mode. In research mode, Claude acts as an AI agent to analyze and carry out your request by consulting different resources. Able to search the web, your own internal files, and other content, the AI looks at your topic from different angles in a step-by-step process. In response, Claude aims to deliver a detailed and thorough answer based on all the consulted data. As an example cited by Anthropic, let's say you're on a lengthy sabbatical from work to hike the Appalachian Trail. You want to create an out-of-office plan to share with your colleagues and find locations with internet access so you can stay in touch with them. Submit your request with those questions in mind. Claude consults your emails, calendar, and internal files to determine your commitments and projects at work. It also runs a web search for internet access along the trail you plan to hike. Also: Anthropic launches Claude for Education, an AI to help students think critically In response, Claude generates a detailed plan explaining who will cover for you and what projects they'll handle. It also identifies spots where people will be able to reach you based on internet connectivity. You can then easily share that plan in an email with your colleagues. The new research mode is like a lighter version of the Deep Research tool offered by ChatGPT, Gemini, and other services. Though not as in-depth or information-packed, Claude's research mode runs much quicker and gets to the point more easily. "Research delivers high-quality, comprehensive answers in minutes, making it practical for the multiple research tasks you tackle throughout your workday," Anthropic said in its blog post. "It's this balance of speed and quality that sets it apart." The only drawback with research mode is that it's available only to paid subscribers of Claude Max ($100 to $200 per month), Claude Team ($25 to $30 per user per month), and Claude Enterprise (price varies) in the US, Japan, and Brazil. Anthropic is also dubbing it an early beta, which means the company is likely to fine-tune it further. With the Google integration, you can now connect Claude to your Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Docs services. This means it can search your emails, appointments, and documents to include that information in its response, as well as analyze or summarize specific content. For example, you can ask Claude to gather notes for a meeting from last week, point out action items from follow-up emails, and look for related documents for further details. Beyond answering your questions or generating the content you need, the AI will display inline citations so you can verify the sources. Also: Anthropic adds web search to its Claude chatbot - here's how to try it The Google integration is now available as a beta to all paid Claude subscribers, including Pro users who pay $30 a month. To set this up at the Claude website, just select the "Connect apps" button. Click each button to connect to Google Drive, Google Calendar, and Gmail. Confirm your Google account and give Claude permission to access each service. You can then ask Claude questions related to your emails, appointments, and files. Anthropic just got a huge Claude Research upgrade that works with Google Workspace -- here's how to try it now
Anthropic's Claude just got a major upgrade that could completely change how you work. The AI assistant has evolved into a true collaborator with new deep integrations into Google Workspace and a powerful AI Research feature to make information gathering more efficient. These updates, now rolling out for paid users, aim to automate the most time-consuming parts of your day. We're talking about everything from meeting prep and inbox triage to information gathering. But are they worth the cost of a monthly subscription? Here's a break down of the features to help you decide. Claude now connects directly to Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Docs. That means it can scan emails for information, summarize documents, identify upcoming meetings, and surface the files you need. Now, when you need to know what's on this week's calendar and which documents to prep for a call, all you need to do is ask Claude. Here are some prompts I tried, and I can already see the benefits of this new integration. "What are my key meetings this week, and what docs should I review?" Whether you're prepping for a meeting or want to combine information from two documents, Claude is able to help and tailor the support. Claude's new Research mode is proposed to be your full-time research assistant. Powered by the same web-search capabilities Anthropic launched earlier this year, the research assistant performs multi-step searches, draws from internal and external sources, and delivers comprehensive, citation-backed insights. This feature is currently in beta and only available for Max, Team, and Enterprise users, so the rest of us will have to wait to try it. If you're scratching your head thinking, doesn't Gemini already do all of this for me? You're right. Gemini, Google's own AI is already integrated within Google Workspace. Here are the key differences to help you decide which AI assistant is right for you. While both Claude and Gemini enhance productivity within Google Workspace, Gemini offers a more comprehensive and deeply integrated suite of AI tools, whereas Claude focuses on research and document-centric functionalities that might be better suited for users seeking those specific features. Simply put: Gemini is probably all you need. Claude's Google Workspace integration is available now in beta for all paid plans. Admins must enable access for Team and Enterprise users. Research Mode is available in early beta in the U.S., Japan, and Brazil for Max, Team, and Enterprise tiers. To try it, paid users can toggle Research in settings, and Workspace access can be connected via profile settings once it's enabled by your organization. A Pro Anthropic subscription is $17/month with a discount if you pay annually. A Max subscription -- the one you need for the new Research tool is $100/month. A Gemini Advanced subscription is $20/month. However, most of the best Gemini features are available for free, which include integration within Google Workspace. Manually digging through emails, calendars and files could soon feel "archaic." With AI assistants like Claude getting more integrated and more proactive, the days of chasing down information might finally be over. These upgrades also position Claude as a serious contender in the AI-for-productivity space, going head-to-head with Microsoft Copilot and Google's own Gemini for Workspace.

Claude just gained superpowers: Anthropic's AI can now search your entire Google Workspace without you
Join our daily and weekly newsletters for the latest updates and exclusive content on industry-leading AI coverage. Learn More Anthropic launched major upgrades to its Claude AI assistant today, introducing an autonomous research capability and Google Workspace integration that transform the AI into what the company calls a "true virtual collaborator" for enterprise users. The expansion directly challenges OpenAI and Microsoft in the increasingly competitive market for AI productivity tools. The new Research capability enables Claude to independently conduct multiple searches that build upon each other while determining what to investigate next. Simultaneously, the Google Workspace integration connects Claude to users' emails, calendars, and documents, eliminating the need for manual uploads. "Minutes Not Hours": How Claude's Research Speed Aims to Win Over Busy Executives Anthropic positions Claude's Research functionality as dramatically faster than competing solutions, promising comprehensive answers in minutes rather than the "up to 30 minutes" they claim rival products require. "At Anthropic, we're laser-focused on enterprise workers and use cases, and our Research tool is reflective of that," an Anthropic spokesperson told VentureBeat. "Research is a tool to help enterprise workers get well-researched answers to queries in less than a minute. Other solutions on the market take up to 30 minutes to generate responses - that's not what your average Sales exec or financial services employee needs." This speed-focused approach represents a calculated bet that enterprise users prioritize quick responses for time-sensitive decisions over more exhaustive but slower research capabilities. Enterprise-Grade Security Promises to Keep Company Data Protected While Claude Works For technical decision makers considering AI tools, data security remains paramount. Anthropic emphasizes its security-first approach, particularly for the Google Drive Catalog feature that uses retrieval augmented generation (RAG) techniques. "Privacy is foundational to our approach. We don't train our models on user data by default," the Anthropic spokesperson said. "We've implemented strict authentication and access control mechanisms. Each user or organization's connections to external services are properly authenticated and authorized for only that specific user or organization." The company restricts its Google Drive Catalog feature to Enterprise plan customers, which includes "enhanced security infrastructure, dedicated support, and advanced administrative controls designed for organizations with stringent data protection requirements." Fighting AI Hallucinations: How Claude Uses Citations to Build Trust Anthropic tackles one of AI's most persistent challenges -- the tendency to generate plausible-sounding but incorrect information -- through explicit source citation. "Anthropic is dedicated to building the most trustworthy enterprise AI tools. When conducting research - whether on the Web or in internal docs - Claude cites its sources so users can easily reference where information is coming from," according to the spokesperson. This verification mechanism addresses growing enterprise demand for accountable AI, especially in business-critical applications where accuracy determines success. Real-World ROI: Early Users Report Hours Saved Across Multiple Departments Though still in early beta, Anthropic reports promising results from internal testing, with employees "saved hours every week that they typically spent drudging through a sea of docs and emails." The company highlighted several implementations, including communications teams compiling launch information and briefing books, engineers preparing for client meetings by researching industry news and reviewing existing documents, and sales leaders analyzing sector growth without manual data work. "New employees are skipping the classic 'new hire questions' and asking Claude to summarize upcoming company moments, OKRs and share relevant style guides," the spokesperson noted, suggesting potential applications beyond day-to-day productivity. The AI Assistant Wars Heat Up: How Claude Compares to ChatGPT, Copilot, and Gemini Anthropic's updates arrive amid fierce competition. OpenAI's ChatGPT offers web browsing, Microsoft's Copilot integrates with Office 365, and Google's Gemini connects with Workspace applications. Anthropic differentiates Claude through a combination of speed, enterprise focus, and what it describes as a more autonomous approach to research and information retrieval. The Research feature is available in early beta for Max, Team, and Enterprise plans in the United States, Japan, and Brazil. Web search has expanded to Brazil and Japan after its U.S. launch in March. The Google Workspace integration is available in beta to all paid users, though administrators must enable it company-wide before individual use. From Assistants to Collaborators: The New Era of AI Knowledge Work As AI systems evolve from simple query responders to proactive research partners, they're reshaping how knowledge work happens. Claude's new capabilities represent more than incremental feature additions -- they signal a fundamental shift in the relationship between professionals and their digital tools. For enterprises navigating digital transformation, the question isn't whether AI will transform knowledge work, but how quickly. Anthropic's vision of AI that can independently research, reason through problems, and connect directly with workplace systems suggests a future where the most valuable human skills may not be information gathering but rather asking the right questions. In the high-stakes race to make AI truly useful for everyday work, Claude's latest upgrades reveal that the finish line isn't just smarter AI -- it's AI that works the way humans already do.

Anthropic's AI chatbot Claude just got a bit more agentic. This is how
The company's announcements on Tuesday come as Anthropic ramps up its interest in Europe. Anthropic's artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot Claude is integrating with Google Workspace, promising to help professionals free up time and get work done faster. The San-Francisco-based company announced on Tuesday that users will no longer have to dig through their emails on Gmail, calendar, or documents, as there will be advanced document search capabilities, Anthropic said. As well as this streamlined approach to searching through your Google Workspace without having to specify exactly which file you require, Claude will also be able to pull up meeting notes and past correspondence and search other relevant documents for additional context. Anthropic also announced a tool called Research that can search across both your internal work context and the web. The announcements mark the company's direction towards agentic AI, technology that aims to perform autonomous actions to assist humans and does not require a human to tell them what to do, as they gather data based on user preference. Anthropic said that the tech could help students learn new topics by using Claude to analyse learning materials and notes from the classroom while also searching for the latest academic research. The company said it could also help parents to organise calendar events while also searching the web for weather forecasts and local community events. Anthropic added that the tools have enterprise-grade security that keeps your data within the user's control and maintains the confidentiality of the user's company knowledge. The company said Google Workspace integration is available for early testing in beta to all paid users. Research is not yet available in Europe for the moment, but the company told Euronews Next that it will be available in Europe and worldwide soon, without specifying a date. The announcements come as Anthropic launches a major European hiring spree. Last week, it announced it was creating more than 100 new engineering, research, sales and business operations roles across Europe. "We've long planned to deepen our investment [in Europe]," said Daniela Amodei, president and cofounder of Anthropic, in a statement. "Since launching Claude in Europe last year, we've seen rapid organic growth amongst businesses and consumers alike, confirming the region's strategic importance to Anthropic's future".

Anthropic Releases New Research Feature for Claude | AIM Media House
The company also announced Google Workspace integrations for Claude. Anthropic, the AI startup behind the Claude family of models, announced on Tuesday a new 'Research' feature. This feature searches multiple sources of information - both internal and external web sources- to deliver comprehensive answers. "This approach delivers thorough answers, complete with easy-to-check citations so you can trust Claude's findings," stated Anthropic in a blog post. The company also mentioned that the feature will examine user queries from 'different angles' and systematically addresses open questions. This finally marks Anthropic's entry into deep research territory, joining Google, OpenAI, xAI, and Perplexity. In addition, the company announced that Claude can now integrate with Google's Gmail and Calendar. This way, Claude can search emails and review documents to prevent users from having to manually provide context about their daily tasks. "Ask Claude to pull together meeting notes from last week, identify action items from follow-up email threads, and search relevant documents for additional context," said Anthropic. Claude will also provide inline citations to help users easily verify the information source. Research on Claude is available in 'early beta' for Max, Team and Enterprise Plans in the United States, Brazil and Japan. The Google Workspace integration is available in beta to all paid users. "In the coming weeks, we'll expand the range of content sources available and the ability for Claude to do research in more depth," added Anthropic. Recently, Anthropic introduced new monthly Max plans starting at $100 per month, reaching up to $200. The $100 plan offers five times the usage of the existing $20 Monthly Pro plan, while the $200 plan provides 20 times the usage. Along with increased usage limits, subscribers to the Max plan will benefit from priority access to the latest features and models. Last month, the company released the Claude 3.7 Sonnet, a hybrid model with enhanced thinking capabilities. Artificial Analysis, a platform that independently analyses AI models, referred to it as the best non-reasoning model for coding. Furthermore, Anthropic plans to unveil a new version of Claude 3.7 Sonnet with a 500k context window, a significant increase from the current 200k capacity. TestingCatalog identified evidence of this in feature flags.

Anthropic's Claude AI Is Coming to Your Google Account to Help You Get Stuff Done
By connecting your Claude account to your Google account, Anthropic says, you can analyze your internal information without needing to manually upload files to Claude. This enables Claude to act like an even more effective virtual assistant, since it knows your schedule and what you're working on from the info in your calendar, email, and docs. So what's the point of this kind of integration? Anthropic says that its employees have been using it to achieve a wide variety of tasks. Anthropic comms and marketing employees are using Claude to build briefing books for executives so they can effectively communicate to specific outlets about upcoming launches. Engineers are using the tool to prep for client meetings by analyzing email threads, looking at calendar invites, and reviewing meeting notes so they have a fuller idea of what issues the clients are hoping to solve with Claude. Plus, organizations with Claude Enterprise accounts will be able to take things one step further by allowing Claude to analyze the contents of their Google Drive data. "When you ask Claude a question about your work," says Anthropic, "Claude leverages a specialized index of your organization's documents to find the information you need -- even when it's buried in lengthy documents or scattered across multiple files."
