The ASUS ProArt A16 laptop gets you the latest from AMD and a giant screen
ASUS is updating both its ProArt laptop and its Chromebooks with the latest internals for Computex 2025, and giving both families of laptops a more premium look, with new colors and tasteful finishes. The ASUS ProArt A16 stands out as the most premium pick, with a black aluminum body, "stealth" hinge that bring the top half of the laptop nearly flush with the bottom and a smudge-resistant finish that should hopefully avoid fingerprints. Inside, ASUS is offering an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX processor and a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU, both of which qualify the new ProArt as a Copilot+ PC. That means you'll get access to Windows' growing list of AI features, and ASUS is also including to apps -- StoryCube and MuseTree -- that can run generative AI models entirely locally. All packed into a laptop that's around half-an-inch thick and has a 16-inch 4K OLED. In terms of Chromebooks, ASUS is offering both normal models and Chromebook Plus versions that support Google's AI tools. The ASUS Chromebook Plus CX34 has a 14-inch display that can fold flat and a 1080p webcam, alongside up to an Intel Core i5 and 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM. That's enough to offer Gemini features locally, and you'll get priority access to Gemini Advanced. The only real disadvantage is the giant ASUS logo that still looks awkward next to the similarly prominent Chromebook logo, and the limited color options: You can only pick between white or grey. The ASUS Chromebook CX14 and CX15 come with up to an Intel Core N355 processor, put to 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of storage. If you're curious about Google's AI features, you can also purchase a Plus version of the CX14. Whether you get the 14-inch or 15-inch model, both come with a respectable selection of ports, including HDMI for connecting to external displays. Either size also gets a variety of color options: blue, and a sliver-y grey or a greenish-grey in a either a matte or textured finish. The ASUS Chromebook CX34 is available now starting at $400 from both Walmart and Best Buy. Meanwhile, the rest of the above laptops won't be available until Q2 2025. The ProArt A16 starts at $2,500 from ASUS' online store and Best Buy. The Chromebook CX14 starts at $279 from Best Buy or Costco. The Chromebook Plus CX14 will be available for $429 from Best Buy. And finally the Chromebook CX15 starts at $220 and will be able to be purchased from Best Buy and Amazon.

Asus ROG Zephyrus laptops embrace OLED displays and RTX 50-series GPUs
This week at Computex, Asus announced the latest iteration of its Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 and G16 laptops. While they're designed with gamers in mind, these machines have features that video editors and creatives will appreciate too. So, first things first, they're thin and portable, which is what we've come to expect from Zephyrus models at this point, but the display quality is also top notch (with ridiculously fast refresh rates) and the AI-driven innards are designed to make the machine more power-efficient and last longer as a result. Did I mention they just look damn good, too? It's an impressive refresh. Let's talk about the design first. I'll be the first one to admit that I'm a sucker for a modern white laptop aesthetic, so I've fallen right into the Zephyrus' honey trap here. Available in either Eclipse Grey or Platinum White colorways, it's the kind of design that really pulls you in like a siren luring a faraway sailor. The distinct Slash Lighting array, which is the big line going diagonal down the top lid, gives it a really premium and minimalist look. It's also made of CNC aluminum, so there's no doubt that the chassis is durable and will last you a good while. They're also pretty lightweight, too. The G14 weighs 3.30 pounds, and the G16, equipped with a bigger screen and is heavier as a result, weighs 4.07 pounds. That's lighter than their predecessors. Now, onto the guts! The Zephyrus G14 comes with up to an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor (the G16 gets up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 285H processor). Both machines will also feature Neural Processing Units (aka NPUs) that handle AI tasks, freeing up the CPU and GPU. They're also packed with the latest Nvidia 50 Series graphics cards (up to 5070 Ti for the 14-inch, up to 5090 for the 16-inch)-these are known for their significant advancements in AI-driven graphics and increased frame rates. In fact, Asus claims these models offer up to 50 percent more performance per watt than the previous generation. They've also got the next standard in connectivity, which is Wi-Fi 7. The new Zephyrus comes in either 14- or 16-inches, hence the G14 and G16, respectively. The 14-inch boasts a 2880×1800 120Hz OLED panel, and the 16-inch a 2560×1600 240Hz (!!!) OLED panel. Though I haven't seen either panel with my own eyes yet, based on those resolutions and screen types, the picture should be lovely on both machines. OLED is an especially good screen type for editors to work on because they produce deep blacks and rich colors. No word on launch dates just yet, but the Zephyrus G14 has a starting price of $1,799, and the G16 a starting price of $2,149.99.

The Asus ProArt P16 nails local AI and beats MacBooks -- but it doesn't come cheap
It outperforms MacBooks in more ways than one -- but you'll need to pay up for all that power. Asus kicked off its Computex announcements on Monday with "updated solutions" for creators, students, and businesses. But one laptop stands out from the rest. The Asus ProArt P16 (H7606), a creator-focused laptop, has features that set it apart. Let's dive in. The ASUS ProArt P16 (H7606) packs serious power and local AI ASUS's ProArt lineup focuses on blending portability and performance for creative professionals. This year's refreshed models appear to take that commitment even further and might be the company's best devices yet for artists, editors, designers, and photographers. Starting with the display, the ProArt P16 maintains the same specs as its predecessor (which Laptop Mag reviewed last year), featuring a 16-inch OLED touchscreen display, a 60Hz refresh rate, and a 3,840 x 2,400 resolution. Ultimately, this means the laptop offers impressive color accuracy and sharpness. Though competitors like the Apple MacBook Pro are also constantly praised for their excellent displays, Asus's use of an OLED panel gives it a slight edge in contrast. It comes in a classy matte black chassis, which ASUS refers to as the "Nano Black" colorway. The ProArt P16 model is powered by the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor. Given that this laptop is aimed primarily at creatives, a powerful GPU is usually more important than a strong CPU (which definitely still matters). ASUS pairs the powerful AMD Ryzen CPU with the newer Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU for that extra rendering muscle. Now, here's where it actually gets exciting. This time, the ProArt 16 focuses on nailing local AI, which essentially means AI running directly on your device instead of the cloud. The laptop comes with two Asus-exclusive apps, StoryCube and MuseTree. The former is Asus's AI-powered digital asset-management tool, while the latter is more of a creative idea generator that can transform "inspiration into imagery." This brings three key benefits: Creatives can use AI even if they're offline and don't have a stable internet connection, they get faster responses, and using AI is more secure and privacy-friendly. Since everything happens on the laptop itself and stays right where you can see it (instead of the cloud), any files you upload or prompts you give the AI don't leave your device, so you maintain complete control of your data. The on-device AI processing truly makes the Asus ProArt P16 stand out from the competition since companies have yet to integrate such powerful local AI capabilities into laptops. Think Apple -- their Macs still rely mainly on cloud-based AI rather than fully on-device processing like this. The ProArt P16's powerful processor boasts 50 TOPS of NPU processing power, meaning it can easily handle on-device AI workloads. It packs all of this (and more) into an incredibly portable form factor -- it's just over half an inch thin and weighs 4.08 pounds. The ProArt P16 is also a Copilot+ PC and runs Microsoft Copilot AI on-device. Copilot+ PCs are praised for their ability to run AI tools locally using an NPU, unlocking features that rely on this hardware, like the controversial Recall feature, which made a quiet comeback recently. All this power comes at a hefty price tag The 2025 ProArt 16 will start at $2,499 and will be available at the Asus Store (in-store and online) and Best Buy during Q2 2025, meaning it will hit shelves in late June. If the price tag of the ProArt 16 made you reconsider your life decisions, or if you're simply not a creative professional and don't need that much power, thankfully, Asus has refreshed its other PC lines, too, including the Chromebook series (CX34, CX14, CX15) and ExpertBook series (B5, B1).
