You Can Now Use Claude AI to Read Huge Google Docs

If you're a fan of Claude AI, you'll be happy to know that you can now give it your Google Docs files and let it create a quick summary so you don't have to read it all. ✕ Remove Ads Claude AI Can Now Sum Up Google Docs, With a Catch As announced on Anthropic's X account (formerly Twitter), Claude AI can now integrate directly with Google Docs and read your files. The next time someone shares a dense document, you can hand it over to Claude AI and ask it to sum up its contents. Getting started with this new integration is really easy. Hover over the paperclip icon at the bottom left, click on the Google Drive logo that appears, then authenticate your Google account with Claude. Once you've linked your account, clicking the Google Drive logo will show your most recent Google Docs, alongside a search bar for finding a specific document. Send your chosen document over, and Claude will let you ask questions about its contents. ✕ Remove Ads Before you get started, there are a few things to consider. First, it's only available to Claude Pro and Claude for Work subscribers. Second, Claude only reads the text in a Google Doc; it won't sum up any images in the document. As such, it may be worth opening the document in another tab so you can refer to any pictures the author added. Other than that, it should be an easy way to break down long documents quickly. There are a few caveats to consider but this could be a major productivity enhancer for people who use Claude and Docs. Anthropic is making its Claude AI a little more useful by enabling it to analyze your documents. Starting today, you can add a file from Google Docs to your Claude AI chat or project to give more context to conversations. You can then ask the chatbot questions about the document, such as asking for a summary of the content, like in the below screenshot. Currently, Google Docs integration for Claude is only available to users on Claude Pro and Claude for Work. For Claude for Work users, you'll need to follow the instructions here to set up your integration. Here's how to add a Google Docs document to Claude: There are a few caveats. First, Claude is only able to extract text from a document. It cannot interpret images, comments, or suggestions. Second, you can only sync documents that you have permission to view in Google Drive. If you lose access to a document while chatting with Claude, you won't be able to view its contents, but you will see those conversations. Lastly, Google Docs added to chats and Project knowledge sync directly from Google Drive, meaning Claude will always have access to the latest version of the document.
