OnePlus launches OxygenOS 15 -- Check out the new features
OnePlus just launched OxygenOS 15, as it had announced. The OxygenOS 15 promises to elevate the user experience with a blend of fast performance, sleek design, and advanced AI capabilities. It is one of the lightest, fastest, and most user-friendly operating system, OnePlus has ever created, said the company. This promises smoother animations powered by the industry-first Parallel Processing technology. OxygenOS 15 introduces Parallel Processing, that dramatically enhances animation interactions. This industry-first feature addresses a common pain point in smartphone user experiences: laggy app switching. Previously, rapid transitions between apps often resulted in noticeable delays due to the interruption of animation rendering. Parallel Processing eliminates this issue by allowing multiple animations to run simultaneously, ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted experience, even under heavy workloads. This comprehensive approach to animation optimization extends beyond simple app switching. OxygenOS 15 introduces a wide range of refined animations that provide a seamless and intuitive user experience. From gentle app exits to forceful dismissals, every interaction is designed to be both visually pleasing and functionally efficient. In response to feedback from the 2024 Open Ear Forum, OnePlus has also focused on improving animation speed. These enhancements not only enhance the visual appeal of the device but also contribute to a more satisfying overall user experience. OnePlus' upcoming flagship device, powered by OxygenOS 15, boasts a significant reduction in system storage. Compared to OxygenOS 14 on the OnePlus 12, system storage has been trimmed by nearly 20%. Through a meticulous process of identifying and removing redundant features, OnePlus said it has freed up valuable space for the personal use. OxygenOS 15 harnesses the power of OnePlus AI to deliver a suite of innovative features that boost creativity and efficiency. From intelligent photo editing tools to advanced search capabilities, OxygenOS 15 provides a seamless and intuitive experience that simplifies your tasks and helps you achieve more. Seamlessly integrated into the photo album, the AI Detail Boost automatically identifies pixelated photos and offers a simple one-click solution to enhance their clarity. Expanded card sizes offer greater customization flexibility, allowing users to tailor their layouts to their preferences. Popular apps like Zomato and Blinkit have been added to the Shelf, enriching scene views and making daily interactions more dynamic. Shimmering effects now enhance various interfaces, such as charging, app installations, and unlocking. Originally designed to alleviate anxiety during wait times, these effects create a smoother, more immersive experience. OnePlus has implemented comprehensive Shimmering Effects and Gaussian Blur across various system scenarios, crafting a natural and harmonious visual experience. Additionally, elements such as settings, notification bars, and control centers have been streamlined, merging an immersive experience with utmost elegance. OxygenOS 15 introduces a series of beautifully redesigned icons that exemplify OnePlus' commitment to aesthetic excellence. These icons showcase a clean, minimalist design while maintaining the timeless appeal of classic geometry. OnePlus OneTake delivers a smooth and cohesive visual experience, ensuring seamless transitions from the Always-On Display to the lock screen and then to the main screen. The one-click image matting function allows you to easily customize your wallpaper using the "Depth" feature. By isolating the subject of your photo, you can create stunning wallpapers that showcase the main focus without distractions, adding a personal touch to your device. Open Canvas is expanding its reach to more OnePlus candy-bar phones, bringing its powerful multitasking features to a wider audience. With Open Canvas, you can enjoy seamless two-app split-screen interactions, making it easier to work on multiple tasks simultaneously. Unlike traditional split-screen methods that often sacrifice window size, Open Canvas allows you to switch between apps without compromising their original dimensions. This makes multitasking more convenient and efficient, as you can keep your apps open and accessible without having to constantly resize windows. OxygenOS 15 makes it easier than ever to share files between OnePlus and iPhone devices. OnePlus users can simply activate the "Share with iPhone" feature from their device settings, eliminating the need for any additional downloads. iPhone users can download the "O+Connect" app to enable file sharing. This cross-platform feature fosters a more convenient and accessible sharing experience, demonstrating OxygenOS 15's commitment to enhancing user satisfaction. OxygenOS 15 is equipped with advanced security features designed to safeguard user's data and protect your device from threats. OxygenOS 15 incorporates comprehensive theft protection measures to safeguard user's device in the event of theft. If the device detects unusual acceleration, such as sudden movement, it will automatically lock to prevent unauthorized access. You can also remotely lock your device using the FindMyDevice portal, even without logging into a Google account with your phone number, to secure your device. If your phone goes offline or the SIM card is removed, an offline lock will be activated to further protect your data. For added security, sensitive actions like disabling anti-theft functions require biometric verification. There is also Google Play Protect system to analyze app behavior and detect potential malware, ensuring your device stays secure. OnePlus confirmed that it will introduce the Oxygen OS 15 open beta version first for the OnePlus 12 5G starting from October 30th with other devices to follow. However, the AI features will begin rolling out to OnePlus products by the end of November. To ensure optimal performance, select AI features will be made available exclusively on designated models, said the company. Arthur Lam, Director of OxygenOS Product, said:

OxygenOS 15 update fully detailed, available October 30 for OnePlus 12
OxygenOS 15 has been fully detailed as the Android 15 update for supported OnePlus phones - this year with a greater focus on AI functionality and improved performance. Last year, OnePlus decided to avoid the AI buzz. Instead, the firm's Android 14 update was more of a refinement process designed to complement the always-impressive internals of a flagship OnePlus device. With Android 15 and OxygenOS 15, the BBK-owned firm is now leaning further into AI functionality for the third-party skin. Naturally, the announcement is choc full of marketing buzzwords like "Parallel Processing." This is actually just a new and improved handling of animations when switching between applications quickly - think those annoying videos where someone rapidly opens and closes multiple apps on their homescreen in succession. OnePlus has worked to improve the entire animation pipeline so that even if you choose to open and close apps back-to-back, it should be smoother now. The OxygenOS 15 update is also said to be up to 20% smaller than OxygenOS 14. Lots of older "redundant" functions and features have been removed to allow for these impressive space savings. A lot of camera features are being added, including AI Detail Boost, a new cloud-powered feature integrated directly into the gallery app and automatically detects pixelated or blurry images. You're then given the option to enhance them with a tap. It can upscale to 4K, allowing you to to remaster old gallery images. In tandem with the AI Unblur - which is also cloud-powered - this will sharpen and clean up images in a similar manner to the Photo Unblur function found on Pixel phones. AI Reflection Eraser is able to remove glass reflections without distorting your photos. According to OnePlus, this even works on surfaces as well as through glass. Intelligent Search works on-device to allow you to search across system apps like Settings, Files, and Notes to pull from specific files based on queries such as "how much did I pay for my hotel stay last month?" Circle to Search is coming to OnePlus phones as part of the OxygenOS 15 update. The Google Lens-powered function is already becoming widely available and lets you get contextual search for anything on your phone screen by initiating with a long press of the gesture navbar. OxygenOS 15 also brings Theft Protection to OnePlus phones. Pass Scan is also a big component of the OxygenOS 15 update, allowing you to quickly scan things like boarding passes, transit tickets or images in your gallery and add them to your Google Wallet for later access. AI Notes automatically organizes and refines notes with advanced AI capabilities. According to OnePlus, whether you jot down quick ideas or draft detailed reports, AI Notes can summarise key points, adjust the tone or formality, and even correct grammar, ensuring clarity and structure. The AI Toolbox 2.0 function now includes AI Reply. This works similarly to the Smart Reply feature that is also found in Android, using AI to send quick pre-generated responses. Alternatively, you can use the side-bar to get more in-depth and detailed replies and responses. As mentioned earlier, OxygenOS 15 brings several updates to its design and interface, aiming to improve user interaction and overall experience. The Shelf Cards feature now offers a refreshed color scheme and a wider range of card sizes, allowing more flexibility in how users arrange their home screen. With sizes like 1×2, 2×2, and 4×4, it's easier to customize the layout and access important information quickly. Additionally, popular apps such as Zomato and Blinkit are integrated into the Shelf. It also adds shimmering effects during certain interactions, like charging, app installation, or unlocking the phone. These subtle animations supposedly make the brief waiting period before something happens on your device feel more fluid and engaging. For example, when charging with a Super VOOC charger, shimmering highlights indicate the speed of the process. The OnePlus OneTake feature aims to make transitions between the Always-On Display (AOD), lock screen, and main screen feel smooth and seamless. OnePlus says that this change is all about making navigation feel more natural. The "Depth" option also allows users to adjust wallpaper images so that the subject of a photo stands out more prominently. For multitasking, Open Canvas is making the jump from the OnePlus Open to slabphones and allows users to interact with multiple apps in split-screen mode without compromising on window sizes. Unlike traditional split-screen options that shrink app windows, Open Canvas maintains the full size of both apps, making it easier to multitask and switch between tasks without feeling restricted. This feature could be particularly helpful for users who frequently handle several apps at once. A new "Share with iPhone" app is also coming with the OxygenOS 15 update to help simplify and streamline the process of sharing files from a OnePlus to an iPhone. You will need the "O+ Connect" app on iOS for this to work, but it works in a similar manner to Quick Share - with some extra steps. OnePlus confirmed that the OxygenOS 15 rollout will begin on October 30 for OnePlus 12 handsets. Further details are expected on other supported handsets in the coming weeks and months.

OnePlus Officially Announces OxygenOS 15 with New Look, AI Features
The update also brings AI features such as AI Unblur, AI Reflection eraser, and AI Detail boost for improved image quality. OxygenOS has evolved significantly over time, and the next version promises a complete interface makeover. The company has just announced the latest OxygenOS 15, and it's currently available as open beta for the OnePlus 12. So, let's take a close look at all the new changes inside OxygenOS 15. The new version comes running on top of the latest Android 15 and brings a fresh breath of air throughout the system UI with new, smoother app opening and closing animations and a striking new look at significant parts of the OS. Let's start with the boot animation and setup screen, which has been redesigned and appears a lot cleaner and modern now. Then we have other elements like the stock icons, quick setting toggles, fingerprint animations, and widget cards. All of them are getting a slight facelift -- especially the app icons and quick settings, which boast more curves now. I also couldn't help but notice that the entire Quick Settings screen resembles iOS 18's Control Center. But that's not where the iOS similarities end. Lock screen customizations are also coming with this update. This will include new depth effects and a variety of new clock styles to choose from. OnePlus is also adding a myriad of AI features to OxygenOS 15 starting with AI Unblur, AI Reflection eraser, and AI Detail boost. These will help to make your images look clearer and sharper. Then there are productivity-centric AI features in the Notes app that can summarize or alter your notes. Followed by AI Reply, which will pick up the context of the conversation and suggest appropriate replies. This feature will work with most instant messaging apps like WhatsApp. Other notable features include Intelligent Search which can do a deep search of your device to find any document, message, or file on your device even when offline. Then there are typical Android 15 features like Google's Circle to Search, Gemini Live, and Theft Protection. This new update marks another major transition for OxygenOS and this time, it feels like a big one. Though I am not a fan of how closely some UI elements resemble Apple's iOS 18, if it helps to offer a more convenient experience, then I am all for it. As mentioned above, the current open beta for OxygenOS 15 is limited to OnePlus 12. So if you have any of these devices, then you can try it out yourself at your own risk. Let us know what you thought of the new features inside OxygenOS 15 in the comments below.

Hands-on: OnePlus packs Android 15 with AI, smooth animations, and makes its best feature better
OnePlus has just announced its Android 15 update, OxygenOS 15, which delivers new features and other upgrades, and it certainly delivers on being remarkably smooth. Within OxygenOS 15, heavily based on Oppo's ColorOS 15 which was announced last week, there are three core areas that has been changed, starting with the "Fast and Smooth Experience." Oppo has heavily leaned into animation improvements to make ColorOS, and in turn OxygenOS, feel faster and smoother than ever. One of the key points made is the addition of "Parallel Processing" for animations, which allows one animation to start even if another is still going, all without cutting either animation short. The clear focus of this - which OnePlus and Oppo have been using in examples - is on the test made popular by Ice Universe, a frequent tipster in the mobile space. The test sees users open and close apps quickly and watching for the animation to be cut short or lag. "Parallel Processing" eliminates this, which does lead to a smoother experience. But, realistically, this is a change that hardly anyone is going to actively notice. That would defeat the purpose anyway, as this is absolutely a change that's doing its job best when you don't know about it in the first place. There are also changes through the system to design. OxygenOS still feels as much like ColorOS as ever, and with a bit more iOS influence throughout the system. Most notable is a change found in the notification tray, where the Quick Settings and notifications have been split. This is optional, with a pop-up showing up on our OnePlus 12 immediately after set up asking which style is preferred. The experience of using the split layout isn't all that bad, with notifications still able to be swiped away in either direction, and a swipe in blank space allowing users to jump between the two halves. Still, it's not as quick or intuitive as the existing behavior. You'll also find some tweaked designs throughout OxygenOS, with many of the first party apps incorporating some beautiful gradients. There are also new features, such as "One-Take" which can take a subject in a photo and use it throughout the homescreen wallpapers, lockscreen wallpaper, and always-on display with some fun styles. Much more impactful is the arrival of Open Canvas on the smaller screen, which allows for faster split-screen multitasking on the smaller screen of the OnePlus 12 we've been trying the update out on. Open Canvas first debuted on OnePlus Open and later came to the OnePlus Pad 2, and it's easily the best software feature OnePlus has come out with. This expansion to traditional smartphones seems weird at first, but the ability to switch back and forth between apps so quickly actually makes split-screen multitasking feel useful. It's way faster than traditional multitasking, and allows for a lot more flexibility in what you're trying to do. And, of course, you'll also find a lot of AI. Like everyone else, OnePlus (and Oppo) have packed this update full of new AI features. There's an AI Assistant in the Notes app, AI-powered Google Wallet integration in the Photos app (not Google Photos) for converting pictures into passes (which is super cool), an AI Reflection Eraser in the Photos app, and both AI-powered Unblur and upscaling features. The reflection tool works well, just don't expect miracles. There's also "Intelligent Search" which combines on-device and online search into one feature, allowing search to reference both things found online and things stored on your device, like pictures or documents. I haven't had much time to play around with these features just yet, but Intelligent Search sounds extremely useful if it works as well as OnePlus says. There's also a new "Share with iPhone" shortcut that... well, nobody's going to use. OnePlus has also delivered Circle to Search in its Android 15 update, a feature that I'm hoping we'll see in other OnePlus devices soon. Likewise, Gemini will become the default assistant on OnePlus devices going forward, though Google Assistant remains in place on OnePlus 12 until you manually change it. I was wary of this update prior to giving it a try, but it doesn't really feel all that different from what came before. It's a little smoother, has a few more features, and does bring at least one big update in the arrival of Open Canvas on traditional phones. I'd call that an overall win in my book. OxygenOS 15 will be available to OnePlus 12 starting on October 30 and other devices in time.

Oppo shows off ColorOS 15, full of smooth animations and lots of iOS... 'inspiration' [Video]
Ahead of a rollout starting in November, Oppo has revealed ColorOS 15 with some big UI changes, but also a lot of... let's say "inspiration" from iOS. At an event in China today, Oppo revealed ColorOS 15 (via GSMArena), its Android 15 update. The new version brings several UI updates as well as a huge focus on animations. The "Aurora and Tidal Engine" lets animations run in parallel for a smoother experience when switching between apps, while "Motion Effects" improve the animations both in Oppo's apps, as well as third-party apps. Oppo also says that behind-the-scenes improvements speed up app installation by 26% while app responsiveness should be around 18% better. But there are much more impactful changes here. For one, Oppo has split the notification shade from the Quick Settings, something that Samsung is doing in One UI 7, and that even Google is rumored to do in the future. There are also a bunch of new AI features including a new way to interact with Oppo's XiaoBu Assistant using natural language, as well as using XiaoBu to circle content on screen to search for more information about it. AI will also be used for image processing and editing, such as blur removal, image upscaling, reflection removal, and more. AI can also summarize content in apps such as the Notes app and the voice recorder. If you spend just a moment watching Oppo's promo videos for ColorOS 15, though, you'll also see a ton of features that are pretty clearly copies of iOS features. There's a blatant clone of Dynamic Island, a huge focus on a heavily customizable lock screen that looks eerily similar to Apple's implementation (such as separating pieces of the wallpaper and being able to store multiple lock screen configurations). Even Oppo's AI assistant has the same interface as Siri with Apple Intelligence, with a colorful light-up border around the screen when the assistant is activated. Oppo will start rolling out ColorOS 15 in November on devices such as Find X7, expanding to dozens of Oppo and OnePlus devices in China (and in the global market) through March of next year. OnePlus today announced plans to show off its own Android 15 update, OxygenOS 15, next week which is expected to have essentially all of the same features and designs, just meant for the global market.

It adds comprehensive 'interruption animations' that are said to enable faster transitions between apps. The company claims it eliminates lag times even during heavy usage and maintains a stable experience. Another way the company is speeding up the OS is by removing redundant features and increasing the storage space. OnePlus claims that the OxygenOS 15 will take up 20 percent less storage space on the OnePlus 12 compared to OxygenOS 14. OnePlus has also introduced several new AI features with the OS update. For the camera, the company has added AI Detail Boost, a feature which transforms low-resolution or cropped images into 4K resolution photos. This feature is integrated into the gallery app and automatically identifies pixelated images. Similarly, the company's AI Unblur feature improves blurry images natively and makes the photos sharper. Additionally, AI Reflection Eraser will help users remove reflections from images which are shot through glass. While these features are powered by the company's in-house AI models, OnePlus is also adding several Gemini-powered features. The first of these is Circle to Search, which will now be available to compatible smartphones with the OxygenOS 15 update. The visual lookup feature can be activated by long pressing the navigation bar or Home Button. Another is Intelligent Search which will let users run on-device searches by typing a query in natural language. It can understand the conversations in messaging apps and can automatically generate contextually relevant replies that users can copy and paste into the app. Google's Gemini AI assistant will be made the default virtual assistant with the new OS update. Users can also access the recently released Gemini Live feature which offers a two-way real-time voice conversation with the Gemini chatbot. Coming to design enhancements, OxygenOS 15 introduces new boot animation, icons, more shelf card choices, and new fingerprint unlock style options. It also adds Shimmering Effects and Gaussian Blur across various system scenarios to offer a new visual experience. Some minor upgrades have been added to settings, notification bar, and control centre. New design upgrades can also be seen while interacting with the OS. A new OnePlus OneTake feature now improves the phone unlocking animation. File sharing between OnePlus and iPhone devices has also been improved with a new "Share with iPhone" feature. OxygenOS 15 will benefit from Android 15's Google Play Protect live threat detection feature that analyses app behaviour to detect potential malware and fraudulent apps. Similarly, new theft protection mechanisms have also been added to protect the user data in case their device is stolen. The feature can detect movements associated with theft, such as someone snatching a smartphone and running away, and automatically locks the device to protect the data from the thief. Additionally, a remote lock feature has also been added with which a user can lock the device remotely with just their phone number. An offline lock has also been added that activates automatically if the handset remains disconnected from Internet for a prolonged period. Finally, OxygenOS 15 also implements Android 15's biometric verification system for sensitive actions such as disabling theft-protection features or FindMyDevice, which the company says adds another layer of protection for users.

"OxygenOS 15 also introduces comprehensive theft protection mechanisms with Android to help protect your device and data before, during, and after theft. When movements typical of theft, such as someone suddenly taking your device and trying to run away, are detected, the device automatically locks. Additional protections include a remote lock feature, which allows users to lock their phone using only their phone number without needing to log in to a Google account. and an offline lock to protect you if a thief tries to take your device offline to extract data is activated if the phone remains offline for a prolonged period of time," OnePlus said.

OnePlus joins in on the AI pandemonium with OxygenOS 15
Key Takeaways OnePlus has announced OxygenOS 15, its Android 15-based update coming soon. This year's software is built around AI, speed improvements, and a visual overhaul. Most of the AI features should sound familiar to Pixel and Galaxy users, while the new quick settings menu is straight out of iOS. ✕ Remove Ads Android 15 might be here for Pixel devices, but it has yet to arrive for phones from other OEMs. While Samsung fans continue to wait until 2025 for One UI 7, we're getting our first official look at OxygenOS 15 from OnePlus. While last year's upgrade was built around a healthy amount of buzzwords, this year keeps things a whole lot simpler to understand. The OnePlus take on Android 15 is effectively built on three core concepts -- AI, speed, and a visual overhaul -- though not all of it might land well with fans. Let's start with AI. After launching the OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 12R last year -- two phones that were largely lauded for providing excellent core experienceswithout being bogged down by too many AI tools -- the company is going all in. OnePlus AI is the new name for the brand's toolset, and although many of these software features have been seen elsewhere, it'll be interesting to see if a new spin on some old ideas can deliver a breath of fresh air to OxygenOS. ✕ Remove Ads Close These tools include AI Detail Boost, which sounds quite a bit similar to the Pixel 9 Pro's Zoom Enhance, allowing for auto-upscaling images; AI Reflection Eraser, for deleting reflections out windows and other mirrored surfaces; and AI Unblur, which -- stop us if you've heard this one -- unblurs an image. All three are cloud-based, as is Google's Circle to Search, which is officially coming to supported OnePlus phones through OxygenOS 15. ✕ Remove Ads Those tools are paired with Intelligent Search, which combines cloud and on-device AI to allow for search across applications like Settings, Files, and Notes using "natural language processing." It should make finding specific files on your phone a little easier if you aren't sure what you're looking for, though power users may want to stick to digging through settings the old fashioned way. Pass Scan is the company's other on-device utility, designed to transfer context from your photo library to Google Wallet to be used as boarding passes. Considering Wallet can already do this, however, I'm curious how useful this tool might actually be. A couple of other cloud-based utilities, including AI Notes and AI reply recommendations, as well as a swap to Gemini as the default assistant app, round up a fairly typical suite of generative applications designed more for investors than actual end-users. Nothing here sounds particularly innovative on paper, though as usual, we'll have to wait and see how these tools translate to everyday use. ✕ Remove Ads Related 5 reasons why Android 15 is better than Android 14 Android 15 brings more than just minor upgrades 13 OxygenOS 15 isn't all about AI Close Outside of AI, OnePlus is reporting a 20 percent increase in usable storage space on recent flagships compared to OxygenOS 14. That's a genuine improvement, but the company's other claim to fame on speed -- Parallel Processing -- might not be. If you've rolled your eyes at those viral videos where creators quickly open and close apps repeatedly on a smartphone, you'll be thrilled to know OnePlus is making that a key focus in OxygenOS 15. If you've found app transitions slow and laggy in years past -- a problem I cannot say I've had -- you'll be thrilled to know that's fixed in OxygenOS 15. ✕ Remove Ads OnePlus is also rolling out a visual refresh of its core OS with this update, including an all-new quick settings menu that looks directly ripped from iOS 18. Luckily, you can choose to keep the old-school combined menu with quick settings and notifications on one page, but it's clear OnePlus sees Apple's strategy as the future. And speaking of Apple, a new O+Connect app for iOS allows OnePlus and iPhone users to transfer files between platforms without having to rely on something like Google Drive. Finally, Open Canvas -- the (rightfully) lauded multitasking system used by the OnePlus Open -- is coming to non-foldables as part of this update. Considering how much I've loved it on last year's folding phone, I'm thrilled to see it here. ✕ Remove Ads As for when OxygenOS 15 might hit your OnePlus phone, well, your guess is as good as ours. We've asked the company for details on when this update might roll out to users as part of a beta period, and we'll update our coverage when we hear back. In the meantime, I've recently received access to an early build of this new software, so stay tuned for hands-on coverage once I've got a few days of OxygenOS 15 under my belt. Related I'm fed up with OnePlus not taking the US market seriously Either in or out 41

Here Are All New Features Introduced in OxygenOS 15
OnePlus phones have a lot to like about them, but one thing that always lured fans and consumers is its software - OxygenOS. Its clean, fast, and snappy experience is unparalleled, and the latest edition - OxygenOS 15 is now out, bringing several changes and features along with it. So, if you've been curious about what new features are coming to your OnePlus device, check out our complete list of all the new OxygenOS 15 features. We have listed down all the features that we spotted in the current open beta of OxygenOS 15. Do note that since this is a beta release, some features can change or come later down the line. OxygenOS 15 is introducing parallel animations that will offer smoother and more responsive animations throughout the system. It will help remove any lag or stutter that appears when switching from one app to another, enhancing the overall user experience. These animations not only look visually appealing, but also add a more intuitive and enjoyable experience to the UI. The system will also take up less space as OxygenOS 15 is optimizing storage usage. This results in a significant reduction of up to 20% less space from the OxygenOS in the OnePlus 12 series. This means you'll have more space available for your files, apps, games, and photos. However, this will only be available for the upcoming OnePlus 13 series and later. Current OnePlus devices will not be able to benefit from this. OxygenOS 15 is bringing a fresh and modern look to the setup process. A new boot animation will greet you upon startup. Additionally, the setup screen has been redesigned to provide a cleaner and more intuitive experience. OnePlus has stuck with its current boot animation for years. So this will be a refreshing change for the OS and the fans of the software. The update also changes the look of the quick settings panel, adopting a rounded appearance for the toggles. This change offers a cleaner look, aligning with the overall visual style of the operating system. I couldn't help but notice that they look awfully similar to iOS 18's control center toggles. While I don't mind this look, but I do feel some fans might be upset by the close resemblance. Some stock app icons like the clock, recorder app, and calculator also received a fresh new look. They are easier to recognize now and align pretty well with the new design language of the OS. But that's not all. The update introduces new widgets for these apps. They are larger and show more information at a time.' These will help you stay more organized and glance at all the important stuff directly from your home screen. Plus there are some hidden easter eggs here as well for die-hard fans. With OxygenOS 15, we will get to see depth effects for the lock screen. Similar to what we've seen on iOS 17 and Xiaomi's Hyper OS. This feature adds a layer of depth to the clock on the lock screen, creating a dynamic look. That's not all, OnePlus is also adding some new clock styles to the mix so you can customize your lock screen to add a level of personalization to it. OnePlus is also introducing a new feature called OneTake. This will show a seamless transition from always on display to your homescreen in a single take just like the name suggests. You can see it in action on this X post shared by OnePlus. Fluid Cloud is OnePlus's attempt at iOS dynamic island and live activities. It will show a pill-like notification that you can long press on to see the ongoing status of any activity, like a timer or a song playing on Spotify. With OxygenOS 15, the company is adding support for more apps to the Fluid Cloud. So now you will be able to track your food order on apps like Swiggy and Zomato. OnePlus is known for catering to its community, and previously it had an Easter egg where if you type "1 + 1" and press "=" on the calculator app then it shows "Never Settle" which is the company's tagline. This Easter egg disappeared when the ColorOS code base was merged with OxygenOS, but thankfully it is back with the OxygenOS 15 update. There are also a bunch of new AI features in OxygenOS 15 that can help improve your images and make them look clear and sharper. AI Unblur AI Unblur is a tool that can effectively remove blur from your photos. Whether you accidentally captured a blurry shot or have an old photo that's faded over time, AI Unblur can help restore clarity and details to it. This option is available from the edit menu in the Gallery app. AI Reflection Eraser Reflection Eraser automatically detects and removes unwanted reflections from glass or lens glare in your photos. It eliminates distracting reflections, allowing you to showcase the true beauty of your subjects. AI Detail Boost This feature is similar to the one found in Pixel devices, where it adds more details to photos when you zoom into them with the help of generative AI. Detail Boost can add more information to your pictures so you don't get a blurry mess when you crop into them. Apart from image AI features, OnePlus has also added some productivity-oriented AI tools that can help make the most out of your daily tasks. AI Assistant for Notes There is a new AI-powered assistant in the Notes app that can help summarize long notes by intelligently breaking them down into bite-sized bullet points that are easier to understand. It can also change the formatting of the text, polish the writing, continue writing for you, or elaborate some parts of the text. In the current version, it only supports English, Hindi, Spanish, Italian, Simplified Chinese, and traditional Chinese languages. AI Smart Replies With this feature enabled, you will get smart replies created by AI that are based on the current context of the ongoing conversation. It works with most messaging and social media apps, but it does raise some questions over the privacy of the user. Intelligent search is similar to the universal search feature that we have seen before but more powerful. It can find any file, or even text within that file, app, or mail based on your query. You can ask about these particular things and Intelligent search will fetch the answers for you. This is a small but significant feature for frequent flyers. Pass Scan can scan your paper boarding passes and store them digitally so you don't have to carry that piece of paper around with you. This option is available right from the camera app so you won't have to dig into settings to use it either. If you have used the OnePlus Open or any other OnePlus tablet then you may be familiar with Open Canvas. It lets you manage multiple apps on the screen, move them around, and change their size as needed. With OxygenOS 15, the company is bringing this feature to their smartphones. This will offer a better multitasking experience beyond what is typically available on Android. OnePlus could also help bridge the gap between Android and iPhone with a new "Share with iPhone" option. This is an option that needs to be enabled within the settings app of your OnePlus device. Once enabled, you need to download the O+Connect app on your iPhone and start sharing files between the two devices. OxygenOS 15 is built on top of Android 15, so it comes with all the latest bells and whistles that the new version of Android comes with. This includes Circle to Search, Gemini Live support, and Theft Protection. So these are all the new features and improvements that we have spotted in OxygenOS 15 open beta. We are still digging through the OS and will update the list as we discover more. Meanwhile, if you want to learn about whether your OnePlus device will get the update or not, then you can take a look at our dedicated guide. This new update has me pretty excited, the UI feels a lot more responsive than it used to. And I love most of the aesthetic design changes, especially the depth effect for the lock screen. But that's just me, how about you let us know which OxygenOS 15 feature you like the most in the comments section?

These are the first 4 features to try in OxygenOS 15
These are 5 features I want Android 15 to bring, because Android updates are getting boring OnePlus is officially announcing OxygenOS 15 today, its Android 15 update, and it's pretty packed with new features. A big part of it is, you guessed it, AI, which comes with the usual stuff: AI Detail Boost, AI Unblur, AI Reflection Eraser, AI Notes, and Google stuff like Gemini and Circle to Search. There's even a new Intelligent Search, which lets you ask natural-language questions about documents that are stored on your phone. ✕ Remove Ads 2:24 Related OnePlus 12 review: Almost as good as S24 Ultra, but at a far lower price And while it also comes with an array of visual changes, one thing that OnePlus talked up is parallel processing. It took issue with how if you're switching between apps, there's a loss of animation rendering, so everything is smoother now. OnePlus seeded a beta of the software to journalists for review, so I've been using this for about a week. Here are my top four features to check out: 4 Share with iPhone It's complicated, but it's there Close I'm sorry if you're getting excited when you see this, but you're not getting AirDrop. Share with iPhone does indeed let you share files with iOS devices, but there are a bunch of steps involved. ✕ Remove Ads First, the recipient device needs to have the O+Connect app installed and set up. Then, you'll need to turn it on in OxygenOS settings, as it automatically turns off after 10 minutes. Then, when the recipient accepts the file, they will have to connect their iPhone to your OnePlus device's Wi-Fi. 3 Flux themes iPhone-style customization is here Close OnePlus has a bunch of new features for customizing your home screen and lock screen. There's an array of wallpapers you can use, as there always has been, and you can add a bunch of styles to it. There's a depth button, so the subject of the photo can stand out above the time and anything else that's there. And of course, lock screen widgets are customizable as well. ✕ Remove Ads 2 AI Unblur It's not perfect, but it's better than not having it Close This feature is pretty self-explanatory. We've all taken a photo that came out blurry, whether the device just took too long because it's in low light, or for whatever other reason. Now, AI can touch it up for you. As you can see from the sample I used, the AI edited image is way better. It's not perfect by any means, but it's definitely improved. Like many other features, this is something that other companies are doing, but now you'll be able to do it with a OnePlus phone. ✕ Remove Ads 1 AI Detail Boost Zoom without the camera Close AI Detail boost upscales your photos, so you can crop without losing quality. Like any other AI feature, this isn't perfect, so you'll still lose some quality, but not as much as without it. It boosts the photo to 4K resolution. This is one of my favorite features on any device because I really like the implications of it. Digital zoom has been a mess for years, but we have the technology to make it better. Honorable mention: AI Eraser Close ✕ Remove Ads AI Eraser shipped for OnePlus devices earlier this year, so it's not new to OxygenOS 15. It's also not unique; a lot of other companies are doing this. Still, it's pretty good and it's worth using, so as this AI-focused update rolls out, I just thought I'd mention another AI feature that we already have. And that's about it. OxygenOS 15 is coming to a device near you soon, so check out these features when you get it.

OxygenOS 15 Will Bring Android 15 to OnePlus Phones
The NSA is Warning You to Restart your Phone Every Week: Here's Why Android 15 is out of the door, both on the AOSP and on Pixel phones, which means other OEMs are to follow suit soon. One company that is usually prompt with updates is OnePlus, and the company has just announced that it will begin beta-testing OxygenOS 15. ✕ Remove Ads OnePlus has just unveiled its latest mobile operating system, OxygenOS 15. OnePlus avoided mentioning the Android version in its announcement for some reason, but it's based on the same Android 15 upgrade that was released in September and started rolling out to Google Pixel phones in October. One of the key features of OxygenOS 15 is Parallel Processing, which refines animation interactions and allows for better transitions between applications. By removing redundant features and optimizing system storage, OxygenOS 15 aims to provide a smoother user experience, especially during heavy usage. Just like literally every other software product launched in 2024, there's also a lot of AI toys for you to play with. There's a new AI Detail Boost feature that transforms low-resolution images into 4K visuals, as well as an unblur feature that fixes blurry images without the need for additional apps and a reflection eraser that removes reflections from photos taken through glass. ✕ Remove Ads There's also Intelligent Search, a search feature that allows users to find specific answers in files, settings, or notes. And then we have the usual Android 15 AI toys such as Circle to Search. Being Android 15, all of the other features you will be getting on other phones are also present here, such as the new smart theft detection feature. OxygenOS 15 also features a redesigned visual style with a new boot animation, icons, and fingerprint unlock style options. Additionally, elements such as settings, notification bars, and control centers have been streamlined in the way they look, feel, and function. The open beta version of OxygenOS 15 will debut on the OnePlus 12 5G, starting on October 30th. ✕ Remove Ads Source: OnePlus

OxygenOS 15 hands-on: Watch out Samsung and Google -- OnePlus just caught up
OnePlus knows how to make some of the best Android phones around, but its software has historically lagged behind Samsung, Google and Apple. That's been even more the case since these companies began to embrace the AI feature trend, with OnePlus deliberately avoiding major discussions of AI features. But things may be about to change. OxygenOS 15, the OnePlus-flavored skin of Android 15, is entering open beta from October 30th, but I've been lucky enough to try it out on a OnePlus 12 early. And it looks like OnePlus has more than caught up with the competition. A fully-fledged suite of AI features has been added to the incoming software update, but there are more upgrades and improvements besides that. So even if generative writing and image editing tools aren't your thing, you'll likely find something to enjoy in the changes OnePlus has made to its interface, animations or even just the software's overall size. The OnePlus 13, the company's next flagship phone, isn't expected to arrive outside of China until the start of 2025, and it'll probably be another few months after that before we'll see another budget Nord handset. But with this update on the way, perhaps existing OnePlus owners will be happy to keep their current phone going, knowing that they're not being left behind. Even before you make your first tap in the revamped OxygenOS 15 interface, it's given you a benefit. Thanks to optimization efforts and the removal of unnecessary files (such as default wallpapers you're not using), OnePlus has removed 5GB, or about 20%, from the storage footprint of OxygenOS 14, giving the user that space back for storing things they need and care about. When you do finally wake up the phone, you'll first want to check out the new lock screen options, described as "Flux themes". These are designed to have beautifully smooth transitions from always-on-display to lock screen to home screen, and while it doesn't make a huge practical difference, it is nice to see the animations move smoothly between one another as you open up your phone. Smooth animations is one of OnePlus' main talking points this year, especially when it comes to opening, closing and switching between apps. OxygenOS 15 features a new "Parallel Processing" graphics system, which allows apps opening and closing (and their associated animations) to overlap. It's a solution to a very minor complaint (jittery animations when swapping rapidly between apps) but it certainly works as a party piece for OnePlus. If you're familiar with the OnePlus Open and OnePlus Pad 2, you will be happy to hear that their Open Canvas multi-tasking system has finally arrived on OxygenOS 15-compatible smartphones. You can only open two apps at a time, rather than the Open or Pad 2's three, but you still get the all-important ability to expand and shrink both apps as you see fit, and tap between them to multitask without compromising on in-app space. It's much better for immediate work or copy/pasting across apps than any other system I've tried, and I'm delighted to find it on a smaller, more accessible device. As seems to be the trend among Android skins these days, OxygenOS 15 now offers an iOS-style split between the notifications shade and quick settings, which you access by swiping down from the top of the phone on the left side or the right. I never had a problem with the traditional Android all-in-one style, and that is still offered for those who prefer it. But it is weird how this is an interface style OnePlus and other brands are now all adopting, seven years after the iPhone X first introduced it. Another iPhone-esque feature is the new Live Alert pop-ups for ongoing activities, like playing music or running a timer. It lives around the central punch-hole camera on the OnePlus 12, like a smaller version of the Dynamic Island it's aping. I do like this change, as it gives you immediate access to an ongoing task no matter where else you go on the phone. And if it's annoying you, you can swipe on the bubble to dismiss it. Also on the topic of iPhones, OnePlus is trying to bridge the gap with its rival through the upcoming Share with iPhone feature. By downloading a to-be-release "O+ Connect" app, you'll be able to send your files to your friends with iPhones as easily as you can to those with Android phones. I didn't get to try this one, but if it works as OnePlus says, then it's going to be a big moment for iPhone-Android relations, making it far simpler to send things to one another directly rather than through a messaging app or Google Drive. OnePlus still isn't devoting its phone to AI in the same way that other brands have, but its new software adds a lot of the basic AI-driven services we have seen from other recent smartphones, plus some unique ones to let OnePlus flex its software talents. On the photography side, the OnePlus Photos app now contains Image Unblur and Reflection Eraser tools for fixing up common problems with images. But another addition is Detail Boost, which is there to sharpen a cropped-in image with generative AI. It doesn't seem great if your image has text in it (see the street sign in my sample) but for larger, simpler elements, it does add back some of the definition lost in the crop. For your productivity needs, you can now summarize writing, read it out or get some help with editing it with the AI Summary, AI Speak and AI Writer tools. These are available anywhere in OxygenOS 15 by swiping in from the side of the screen to access the relevant toolbar. The AI Writer tools can reformat your text, change its tone or just check your spelling and grammar, but there are also generative writing options to try too. This can either write something entirely new for you, such as a reply to a message, or be used to add to existing text, say if you need a few more words to round out a briefing. If you save a lot of documents to your phone, then the new Intelligent Search for local files will work especially well for you. The home screen search menu will be able to look through the text of indexed files to help you find answers you're looking for without opening them. And for questions that have answers beyond the scope of your phone's storage, Circle to Search is available too, if you were jealous of Samsung and Google keeping it to themselves for the past 10 months. One last feature before we round things up -- the all-important new software easter egg. If you type 1+= in the Calculator app, you get a special animation displaying the company motto. I'm glad that I didn't have to mention this little addition until the end, since OnePlus has made plenty of meaningful changes to OxygenOS to make it a more futureproof Android skin. I still want to see this running on a OnePlus 13 before I make up my mind in full, but I like what I'm seeing so far. Samsung has yet to fully reveal its new Android 15 skin, One UI 7, and Google's no doubt cooking up some new features for future Pixel Feature Drops, so OnePlus' new software may start looking outdated faster than it might like. But right now we've got a proper three-horse race on our hands when it comes to Android phones, which must give OnePlus' faithful Never Settlers some comfort that they've bet on the right brand.
