Equinix and AiHPC Unveil OrchAI Platform

Equinix, a global digital infrastructure company, has partnered with AiHPC to launch Orchestration AI (OrchAI), a dedicated open AI healthcare and life sciences platform on Platform Equinix®. This collaboration aims to accelerate healthcare and life sciences research and development, clinical trials, and the application of advanced biomedical technologies in Hong Kong 12.

Addressing Healthcare Research Challenges

Medical research institutions are increasingly investing in AI and high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure to overcome computational power bottlenecks and data exchange limitations. In Hong Kong, where the AI market is projected to reach US$1.03 billion by 2025 and $3.43 billion by 2030, stakeholders often face challenges in managing large-scale data operations and implementing AI solutions 12.

OrchAI addresses these issues by:

  1. Eliminating technological barriers
  2. Optimizing resource allocation
  3. Providing end-to-end digital services, including HPC acceleration and data orchestration

Enhanced Connectivity and Collaboration

OrchAI, integrated on Platform Equinix, bridges local and overseas hospitals, research, and medical institutions. This integration fosters accelerated research processes and collaboration. Healthcare and life sciences institutions can directly connect to cloud service providers through Equinix Internet Access and Equinix Fabric®, enabling efficient data exchange across multiple cloud environments 2.

Significant Performance Improvements

After deploying OrchAI on Platform Equinix, the upload speed to AWS Cloud in Hong Kong or Singapore via Equinix Internet Access has been reduced by over 90%, or up to 22 times faster, compared to the public internet. This enhancement in connectivity infrastructure improves data scalability and ensures secure and compliant data handling 2.

Advancing Hong Kong's Position in Healthcare Innovation

Dr. Sam Chu, Founder of AiHPC, emphasized the importance of establishing Hong Kong's first integrated AI and HPC ecosystem to address the challenges posed by an aging population and the city's ambition to become an international health and medical innovation hub 2.

Joanne Hon, Managing Director of Equinix Hong Kong, highlighted the company's commitment to advancing digital capabilities in the healthcare industry. This partnership aims to empower institutions to adopt bolder approaches in addressing complex and globally interconnected healthcare challenges 2.

Future Implications

The collaboration between Equinix and AiHPC is expected to:

  1. Expedite the journey from research to market for innovative healthcare solutions
  2. Enhance service delivery through AI-powered technologies
  3. Solidify Hong Kong's position as a crucial super-connector in the Asia-Pacific region
  4. Attract key healthcare stakeholders in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and throughout Asia-Pacific to conduct groundbreaking medical research in Hong Kong 2

As the demand for AI and HPC in healthcare continues to surge, this initiative represents a significant step towards establishing Hong Kong as a global healthcare and life sciences innovation hub.
