Google Enhances Data Sovereignty for Indian Businesses

Google has announced significant advancements in its AI offerings for the Indian market, with a strong emphasis on data security and sovereignty. Later this year, Indian organizations across all sectors, including public enterprises, will have the option to store their data at rest and conduct machine learning processing for Gemini 1.5 Flash, Google's cutting-edge large language model, entirely within India 1. This move is particularly crucial for sectors like healthcare and finance, where data residency in India is both critical and mandatory.

The tech giant had already enabled organizations using Google Cloud's generative AI capabilities to store their data at rest in India earlier this year. This included Generative AI on Vertex AI - PaLM 2, Codey and Imagen models, as well as Text Embeddings and Multimodal Embeddings APIs 1. The latest announcement further solidifies Google's commitment to empowering Indian organizations to harness AI while maintaining complete control over their data.

Multilingual Gemini for Individual Users

In addition to enhancing services for businesses, Google is making strides in bringing AI capabilities to individual users across India. The company has introduced the Gemini mobile app, an AI assistant designed to help users with a wide range of tasks, from academic help to creative inspiration 2.

Recognizing the linguistic diversity of India, Google has announced the rollout of Gemini Live in Hindi, with plans to expand to eight more Indian languages in the coming weeks. These languages include Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, and Urdu 2. This expansion is particularly significant given that over 40% of Gemini's Indian language users already rely on voice interactions.

Advanced AI Capabilities

Gemini, Google's most capable AI model to date, is built to be natively multimodal, allowing it to understand and combine different types of information, including text, audio, image, and video simultaneously. This capability enables Gemini to better understand nuanced information across languages and extract insights from massive amounts of data in seconds 2.

The Gemini Live feature offers natural and free-flowing voice conversations, adapting to the user's conversation style and allowing for interruptions, follow-up questions, and continued conversations. This makes it particularly useful for learning new concepts or brainstorming ideas 2.
