Google Gemini is coming to these Samsung fridges - what it means for your grocery list
Samsung is adding Gemini to its Bespoke refrigerator line. This is the first time Gemini is on a home appliance.Gemini will simplify tasks and see what's in your fridge. The annual CES conference always hosts some of the biggest innovations of the year, and Samsung just dropped a big reveal that it will be showing off fully at this year's event. For the first time, Google Gemini is coming to a refrigerator. Samsung said the integration, coming to the Bespoke AI Refrigerator Family Hub, will "simplify everyday tasks and elevate the overall kitchen experience." One of the biggest improvements comes to the AI Vision feature that lets your fridge see what's inside, so you can add items to your shopping list or quickly check in while you're out shopping. The existing version of this feature can recognize just under 40 types of fresh foods and 50 types of processed foods, which you have to register first. The new version will recognize more food items without needing a separate registration and eventually detect user-labeled items and foods stored in personal containers. Also: How I bring my child's art to life with ChatGPT, Gemini, and Sora - and you can too Samsung didn't provide any more details, but added that it would be showcasing more at CES -- like new use cases for AI Vision. We don't know what those new uses will be, but it seems likely you'll be able to do things like ask your fridge for recipes with what's inside and get alerts when food might go bad. With the addition of Gemini to its refrigerator line, you also have to wonder if Samsung will eventually introduce the technology to other Bespoke appliances like washers and dryers, microwaves, and ovens, or if other manufacturers will introduce Gemini (or other chatbots) to their refrigerators. Samsung didn't reveal pricing or an expected availability date, but we can look to last year's release for some hints. Models in that line were priced right at $3,000, and you could preorder in the spring for summer delivery.

Google's Gemini is about to make its home appliance debut
Previously, Samsung's AI Vision could recognize up to 37 types of fresh food and 50 pre-registered processed foods. The CES 2026 upgrade with Gemini onboard will allow the fridge to recognize many more food items than before, identify processed foods without manual registration, and automatically add user-labeled items to the food list. Samsung says the improved accuracy will make food tracking clearer and easier. And it's not just Samsung's fridges that are getting the Gemini update. The company will also showcase a Bespoke AI Wine Cellar, which uses a Gemini-powered AI Vision system similar to the fridge. The wine cellar features a camera that can automatically recognise wine labels when bottles are added or removed, track which shelf and compartment each bottle is stored in, and synchronise everything with the SmartThings AI Wine Manager.

Google Gemini is now heading to fridges -- and it might actually be useful
AI chatbots are continuing to make their way into more and more devices, and Google Gemini is now heading to fridges: it's going to show up in the new Bespoke AI Refrigerator Family Hub that Samsung is going to unveil at the CES 2026 show in January. According to Samsung (via Android Authority), putting Gemini inside the new fridge will "simplify everyday tasks" and "elevate the overall kitchen experience" - and based on some video demos, this might actually be something you'll want in your kitchen. Gemini will be able to take advantage of a tiny camera inside the fridge to recognize types of food and how much you've got of it. From there you can get advice on what dishes you can make, what you need to buy in, and when food might start to go off. Samsung has built this AI Vision into some of its fridges before, but with Gemini on board, the new model is going to be able to recognize a wider variety of food more accurately, as well as returning smarter responses to your queries. The on-board AI is also going to enable voice control - so you can politely ask the fridge to open its doors if your hands are full - and it'll even manage energy use by tweaking the interior cooling to match how the fridge is used and how it's stocked. All of this sounds positive, and should mean less food waste and lower electricity bills. You can see some of the features outlined in the demo video above, though it somewhat confusingly mentions Bixby, so perhaps there's some rebranding to do there. Samsung has also announced that Google Gemini will be making its way to a new Bespoke AI Wine Cellar as well, which is based on similar ideas: the AI can label and track your bottles, and direct you to the perfect bottle for every meal. CES 2026 is happening from January 6 to January 9, and as usual will be held in Las Vegas. We'll get to see a host of new gadgets and appliances at the event, as the biggest companies in tech show off their wares for the coming year.
