Google Keep's upcoming feature is AI overkill at its finest (APK teardown)
Google Keep already lets you generate lists using text prompts. Google has been bullish on enriching existing features across its apps with AI. Simple text-based functionality consumes the least compute, which is why we're seeing small additions creep up in several apps -- in addition to Gboard's writing tools. While messaging apps have largely been the focus for text generation or correction with AI, Google is also testing functions across other apps, and Google Keep is one of them. Now, Google is testing another AI-assisted feature in Keep notes to help craft better titles.

Google Keep may soon suggest titles for your notes and lists
Like most Google apps on Android, Google Keep hasn't been immune to the AI treatment, with the "Help me create a list" functionality rolling out last year. It now looks like there's one more AI-related feature on the way for Google's lists and note creation app. Poring over the latest version of the Google Keep app (version 5.25.382.03.90), the folks at Android Authority have uncovered an AI-based title generation feature for notes. While it's not yet functional, the site has managed to gain an early preview of how one would go about generating AI titles for a new or existing note. When (or if) AI-based title generation goes live, users will see an icon in the title field of a note that's not dissimilar to the icon for Gboard's Writing Tools. However, Android Authority was unable to determine whether this feature would only work on devices that support Gemini Nano, as is the case with the recently launched Gboard tools. Don't hold your breath for a quick rollout The fact that AI title suggestions don't work as intended suggests that this feature is still in the early stages of development. We presume the tool will suggest a title based on the note's contents, while also potentially providing an option to type in a prompt and generate a title even if the note is empty. There are more questions than answers about this AI functionality right now, and we can only hope that future leaks will shed more light on its workings. It's worth pointing out that although Google Keep is no stranger to AI, it hasn't seen the same volume of AI feature additions as some of Google's other apps, such as Photos, Gmail, Sheets, and Docs, to name a few. Google rolled out "Help me create a list" to Keep widely last year, and it has been the only major AI feature on the app. Not all future additions will be AI-related, however, as Google Keep is also working on a "Find in note" option that would allow users to search for text within the contents of a note. Although "Find a note" was discovered last month, it's not widely available to users of the app.

Google is testing a new AI feature in its note-taking app, Google Keep, that will suggest titles for notes and lists. This addition follows the app's existing AI-powered list creation functionality.
Google continues to expand its artificial intelligence capabilities across its app ecosystem, with Google Keep being the latest to receive an AI upgrade. Following the successful implementation of the "Help me create a list" feature last year, Google is now testing an AI-powered title generation function for notes and lists within the Keep app

.The potential new feature was discovered during an APK teardown of Google Keep version 5.25.382.03.90 by Android Authority. While not yet functional, the analysis revealed an icon in the title field of a note, similar to the one used for Gboard's Writing Tools. This icon is expected to trigger the AI-based title generation feature

.Although the exact functionality is still unclear, it's speculated that the AI tool will suggest titles based on the contents of a note. There's also potential for users to input prompts to generate titles, even for empty notes. This aligns with Google's strategy of integrating AI into simple text-based functions across its apps, which requires minimal computational power

.The addition of AI-powered title generation in Google Keep is part of a broader trend of AI integration across Google's app portfolio. Apps like Photos, Gmail, Sheets, and Docs have seen more extensive AI feature additions compared to Keep. This measured approach to AI implementation in Keep suggests that Google is carefully considering how to enhance user experience without overwhelming the app's core functionality

As the feature is still in early development stages, it's not yet available to users. The timeline for its release remains uncertain, and there are questions about whether it will require specific hardware support, such as devices compatible with Gemini Nano, as seen with recent Gboard tools

.While AI features are grabbing headlines, Google Keep is also working on non-AI improvements. A "Find in note" option is in development, which would allow users to search for text within individual notes. This feature, discovered last month, aims to enhance the app's search capabilities
