Samsung just quietly released its best midrange smartphone Google Photos has become one of the best gallery apps, not only because of its excellent and clear gallery function, but because of a suite of powerful editing and searching tools that make changing and finding your pictures a piece of cake. Now, alongside further changes to the app's design, Google looks set to add a whole new editing tool that could make a serious impact. As spotted by Telegram user Zach Allen, this could be Google's next headline feature (via Android Authority). Help Me Edit allows for seamless and easy edits No need to lift a finger Google Photos already includes a number of AI-powered features, like Magic Eraser and the Magic Editor, so it's no surprise to see more AI inclusions in the app. But where Help Me Edit stands apart is in its execution. Instead of functioning like one of the aforementioned features, where you, the user, select the sections to be altered or removed, Help Me Edit works more like a chatbot. After opening the Edit screen on an image you want to change, you'll spot a little pop-up titled "Help me edit". A text box will ask you how you want to change the photo, and you can type in there how you want the AI to change the photo. For instance, it can change the color of a car from red to blue. It's essentially the next step up from existing tools, and it echoes functionality within chatbot tools like ChatGPT, which can be asked to make edits on photos uploaded to it. The key here though is that Google Photos already has your photos, streamlining the process and opening it up to more people. Most notably, it's similar to Reimagine, a tool already in Google Photos. However, Help Me Edit supports full sentences, while Reimagine is best used with just nouns and adjectives alone. At the moment, there's no indication as to when this will come out. Google hasn't even announced the feature's existence yet, which just goes to show quite how early on this particular feature must be in development. Google Photos is already one of the best photo editing apps around, offering incredible tools that make your bland photos look amazing. And it's about to get smarter. In the last few years, Google Photos has been injected with several AI-assisted photo editing tools, like Magic Editor and Magic Eraser, that make complex edits a breeze. But now, it looks like Google's could be working on its most powerful AI editing tool to date. This rumored "Help me edit" feature, uncovered in code with Google Photos v7.38, appears to offer users the ability to give direct photo editing instructions through a text box. It seems to follow the same premise that already exists with the Reimagine feature that debuted with the Pixel 9 series last year -- and eventually rolled out as a feature to Google Photos. What makes "Help Me Edit" different is that users can explicitly give instructions on what photo editing changes they want to make, rather than how Reimagine simply replaces elements in a shot with something else. One example shown by Android Authority shows how you could change the color of a car from red to blue with a simple command in the text prompt. Anyone that deals heavily with photo editing can appreciate what this feature could do to streamline edits. It'll be interesting what other complex edits this AI-assisted feature could perform, like the ability to brighten up a subject without brightening the entire scene. Either way, this new way of editing in Google Photos with the help of AI could be a game changer. Google hasn't come out to say it's working on this feature, but it could also be introduced alongside its new Pixel 10 devices -- which are tipped to be shown off at the next Made by Google event on August 20. Given how Google's been able to stay ahead of the curve around AI, this would be a ripe opportunity for it to introduce this Google Photos feature.
