Google just discontinued Nest Aware, here's what replaces it
Alongside unveiling the new Google Home app with Gemini built-in, Google also introduced several new smart home devices, including updated Nest Cams, a Nest Doorbell, and a new Google Home speaker. But that wasn't all. In addition to the new app and smart devices, Google also overhauled its Nest Aware subscription service. The familiar Nest Aware subscription is gone. The service, which previously offered video history, continuous recording, and smart alerts, has been rebranded as Google Home Premium and split into two subscription tiers. The service now comes in two options: Google Home Premium Standard and Google Home Premium Advanced. The Standard plan mirrors much of what Nest Aware offered, while the Advanced plan adds AI-powered features and capabilities. Google Home Premium Standard costs $10 per month or $100 per year. It provides up to 30 days of event history, plus "whole-home history" to track activity from compatible devices in the Google Home app. Subscribers also get smart alerts for package deliveries, garage door activity, glass breaking, and smoke alarms. Home Premium Standard is included as a part of Gemini AI Pro As part of the Standard plan, you also gain access to Gemini Live on smart speakers and displays, and, Google says, you can even generate automations using Gemini and natural language commands. What's great about Google Home Premium Standard is that if you're subscribed to the Google AI Pro plan, the service is bundled now at no extra cost. On the other hand, Home Premium Advanced costs $20 per month or $200 per year. It doubles event history to 60 days and includes up to 10 days of continuous 24/7 recording. Its standout feature, however, is deeper Gemini integration. With Premium Advanced, you can ask Gemini to search your video history and answer complex questions by pulling up relevant clips. Gemini can also generate detailed event descriptions from camera footage and provide a "Home Brief" every day, giving you a daily summary of your home's activity. If you're a Gemini AI Pro subscriber, you can unlock Home Premium Advanced for an extra $10 per month, while it comes included with the Gemini AI Ultra plan.

Google Nest cameras will get these Gemini upgrades, but only if you pay [Gallery]
Google Home's Gemini revamp is here and, for Nest Cam owners, it means getting better notifications, the ability to search through footage, and more. Here's what to expect. Gemini is coming to the entire Google Home app, but it also plays a huge role in Nest cameras in particular. Google is delivering a few key upgrades to Nest cameras with the help of Gemini, starting with notifications. Instead of getting generic "Person seen" notifications, you'll be told who the camera saw, what they were doing, and any other important context. Gemini will also tailor the animated preview to show the key part of the clip. Google explains: Get the full picture behind every alert: Know exactly what's happening at home with more detailed notifications like "dog jumps out of playpen." And see the important moment up close with a zoomed-in video preview. With the new "Ask Home" feature, Gemini will also be able to pull up relevant video clips to help you find information from your recordings. Scroll less and find more: Search your video history with Ask Home. Just ask something like, "What happened to the vase in the living room?" and get an event description along with relevant video clips. Finally, "Home Brief" will summarize "hours of footage" into a text summary with relevant information. Catch up at a glance: With Home Brief, you'll see a summary of hours of footage into a quick, digestible summary. Existing features like Familiar Faces will be getting upgraded thanks to Gemini too, with Google telling us that the feature will be more accurate. But, this all comes at a cost. Gemini features on Nest cameras will require Google Home Premium, the new subscription that replaces Nest Aware. The $10/month tier (included if you have Google One AI Pro) will include 30 days of event-based video history while also supporting the existing "Intelligent Alerts" and Gemini Live on speakers. Improved notifications, video search, daily summaries, and event descriptions are then locked to the $20/month Google Home Premium Advanced plan, which costs $20/month (or $10 with Google One AI Pro or included with AI Ultra). That plan also includes 60 days of event-based history and 10 days of 24/7 history. Importantly, these prices are unchanged from the current cost of Nest Aware, though that did go up in August ahead of these announcements. Gemini for Home features launch in early access starting today alongside the redesigned Google Home app.

Google Home Premium is here to replace Nest Aware - here's how much it costs and who gets it
Google Home is getting a big revamp today, with new devices and new Gemini AI integrations, and Google is also taking the opportunity to refresh its smart home subscription offering - which is now called Google Home Premium, not Nest Aware. Yours for $10 a month or $100 a year (the Standard tier), or $20 a month or $200 a year (the Advanced tier), the new plans match the old plans in terms of their pricing, and in a lot of the features and perks you get in return. You also get the benefits as part of a Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra subscription, but not a standard Google One Basic or Premium plan - which is a shame, as Nest Aware was included in the latter. We're still waiting for confirmation on international pricing, but if Google also keeps parity with Nest Aware and Nest Aware Plus outside the US, you're going to be paying £8 a month / £80 a year or £16 a month / £160 a year in the UK for Google Home Premium Standard and Google Home Premium Advanced respectively. In Australia, Nest Aware was set at AU$15 a month / $150 a year and Nest Aware Plus cost AU$30 a month or AU$300 a year - so presumably those prices will stay, but we'll update this article if Google is making changes to pricing as well as the branding. As with the current packages, one of the primary benefits is video history: as well as being able to view the live feeds coming from your home security cameras, you'll also be able to look back at archived recordings associated with motion events. You get 30 days of history with the Standard plan and 60 days with the Advanced plan. With the latter, you also have access to 24/7 video archives, which are kept for up to 10 days - so you can look back on any clip from any time you like. Here's a full breakdown of the differences between the Standard and Advanced plans. Then there's Gemini Live, which is the more natural, intelligent, and conversational version of Gemini, which you might have tried out on your phone. While all Google's new smart home devices get the standard version of Gemini, the advanced Gemini Live functionality requires a subscription. Another perk that you can take advantage of is the intelligent alerts feature, which means your cameras will tell you what they're seeing - packages, your neighbors, and so on - so that you don't have to check quite so many notifications. In addition, you also get sound detection, so your speakers can alert you to the sounds of breaking glass or smoke alarms. A Google Home Premium subscription also gives you access to easy automations: you just tell the app what you want to happen (so something along the lines of "turn off all the hallway lights when everyone has left the house"). Emergency calling from the Google Home app is also included. The Advanced plan is double the price in the US, and in addition to the extra video archiving you get, there are other additional perks too. You can get Gemini to search through your camera and doorbell history for something specific, which can save you many minutes of manual scrolling. You also get event descriptions attached to alerts with Google Home Premium Advanced, which are intended to give you a better idea of what's happening - so you know at a glance whether you need to worry. Finally, Gemini also gives you a daily summary of everything that's been spotted by each camera. It's all rather similar to the old Nest Aware plans, but with some extra Gemini smarts included - so it makes sense that the same features are also included if you've signed up for a Google AI subscription.

Google Home Premium replaces Nest Aware, now included with Google AI Pro
With the launch of Gemini on Home, Nest Aware is no more. It's being rebranded to Google Home Premium with an Advanced tier that unlocks the full set of "AI camera" capabilities. Google Home Premium's Standard tier is $10 per month or $100 annually. Like before, you get 30 days of event-based video history from your cameras and doorbells. You also get what Google calls "Whole-home history" that lets you see activity from compatible devices in the Home app. Then there are intelligent alerts for familiar faces, package, and garage door detection. Sound detection via displays and speakers can hear glass breaking and smoke alarms, while there's also emergency calling. You also get access to Gemini Live on speakers and displays, as well as Help me create to conversationally generate Automations. In a nice bundling, the $19.99/month Google AI Pro, which unlocks Gemini 2.5 Pro and other features, includes this Google Home Premium Standard tier. Then there's Google Home Premium Advanced for $20 per month or $200 annually. Like before, you get 60 days of event video history and up to 10 days of 24/7 video history. The first new feature unlocked by Gemini is the ability to have Gemini search your video history. You can ask complex and conversational queries. As part of this, Google will generate detailed event descriptions for your camera and doorbell footage. This is joined by Home Brief daily summaries. As an AI Pro subscriber, you can pay $10 more for Advanced, while it's included with the $249.99/month Google AI Ultra plan.
