Google's New Nest Doorbell 2K: Gemini Integration and Upgraded Specs Leaked

New Nest Doorbell 2K retail box spills the beans on its key specifications

The box confirms Gemini integration and a subscription requirement for some AI features. Gemini is coming to Google Home on October 1, but that's not all that Google has in store for your smart home (quite literally too). We've spotted renders of new Nest Cams and Nest Doorbell inside the Google Home app, and the devices have already reached store shelves. Customers couldn't buy them right away, but it seems some units are now making it out of locked retail shelves, giving us a good look at key specifications. Reddit user one2zerojigawat got their hands on the new Google Nest Doorbell 2K retail unit before its official launch. It doesn't seem the Redditor bought the unit, as we don't see hands-on pics of the product itself, but the box image tells us plenty of specifications. As we can see from the box, the retail branding seems to have been finalized as "Google Nest Doorbell 2K" instead of "Google Nest Doorbell 3rd gen." However, we do see the latter on the back of the box. There's a prominent "with Gemini" badge on the side, so Gemini integration is practically confirmed at this point. The back of the box confirms that the Nest Doorbell 2K will at least be available in a Snow color. Specifications mentioned on the back include 2K (2,048 x 2,048) HDR video recording and 166° field-of-view, which are improvements over the current second-gen Nest Doorbell. There's also Night vision and 2-way audio support. The device is also said to be weather resistant, with an operating temperature of -4°F to 104°F (-20°C to 40°C). At the bottom, you'll see text mentioning, "Subscription (sold separately) required for certain features, including Gemini and some AI experiences." While not a direct corroboration, this is almost in line with previous leaks that suggested Google is renaming Nest Aware to Google Home Premium and supposedly adding a second tier called Google Home Premium Advanced. We still don't know when Google will launch the new hardware, including the new Gemini-equipped Nest speaker that it sneakily teased during the Pixel 10 launch. All of this new hardware would tie in very well with the October 1 announcement of Gemini coming to Google Home, so prepare your wallets in advance.

Nest Doorbell 2K retail box specifies resolution, wider FOV

Following yesterday's Home Depot leak, Google's upcoming camera lineup continues to appear in stores, and we now have more details about the Nest Doorbell 2K, like the exact resolution. The latest retail leak for the "Google Nest Doorbell (wired, 3rd generation)" in Snow shows the back of the box. It's a sleeve design with the pill-shaped sticker on the back. Of note is the "Specifications" section where we learn that 2K HDR translates to 2048 x 2048. That's up from 960 x 1280 today. Meanwhile, the field of view is 166° diagonal from 145° diagonal today. It remains to be seen how that translates to the Nest Cam 2K, with the current lineup having a 1920 x 1080 resolution and 130° (outdoor) or 135° (indoor) FOV. The Nest Doorbell 2K also has: Night vision, 2-way audio, and Weather resistant. That's unchanged from before. There are also no changes to operating temperature or doorbell power requirements: In the box, you get: Nest Doorbell, chime connector, base plate, 20° wedge, wire connector, hex key, wall screws/anchors, spacers, and window decal. Then there's: "Subscription (sold separately) required for certain features, including Gemini and some AI experiences."

Based on this, Google Gemini could finally be coming to Google smart home hardware, but it will require a subscription Google is preparing to unveil its new line of Gemini-integrated Nest smart home devices, and following the unexpected appearance of its upcoming Nest Cams and Nest Doorbell at Home Depot, more details of the new video doorbell have surfaced. Similarly to the initial leak, a user shared a Reddit post (see below) with up-close images of the new video doorbell in its packaging, which reveals a list of device specifications. It also shows the name of the new model is Google Nest Doorbell 2K, which we assume is related to its upgraded video quality. As mentioned above, the new Google Nest Doorbell will likely come with upgraded video quality. In the doorbell's list of specs, it states that its video quality will record "up to 2K (2048 x 2048) HDR", which is a significant upgrade from the current Nest Doorbell's 960 x 1280. According to the features listed on the box, the Nest Doorbell 2K comes with a 166 degree diagonal field of view - up from the current 145 degree diagonal view. But despite these improvements, it's the new integrations with Google Gemini that everyone will be keeping an eye out for on October 1. Just as Google teased new hardware in its initial announcement, the company also revealed that Gemini would be coming to Google Home, and while this has been a long time coming it appears it comes with a slight catch. In the leaked images on Reddit, the specifications fine print reads "subscription (sold separately) required for certain features, including Gemini and some AI experiences", so that's worth considering before you get too excited for new Google Home hardware.
