Google's Give Galaxy S25 Special Gemini Features
We may earn a commission when you click links to retailers and purchase goods. More info. As a part of Samsung's Unpacked event, where they officially introduced the Galaxy S25 series, Google used the occasion to share updates on Gemini and some solid improvements that the Android ecosystem will start to see. From new features added to Gemini Live to more extensions for more apps, Gemini is slowly starting to invade and at least look like it might be useful. On a Gemini Live front, Google says that it will now allow you to add images, files, and YouTube videos to your conversations. Since Gemini Live is there as a way to have free-flowing conversations with AI about topics or to help you brainstorm, adding these items could help expand conversations to have more details and info that AI might find useful. Right? This is getting weird. To start, the ability to add images, files, and YouTube videos will rollout on the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S25, and Pixel 9 devices. This will happen as early as this week. As for extensions, Google announced that it is allowing Gemini to take actions across select Samsung apps on the Galaxy S25. Those apps are Samsung Calendar, Notes, Reminder, and Clock. Like how you might have previously asked Gemini to make a grocery list in Google Keep, you could now try the same in Samsung Notes. Same goes for your calendars, if you happen to be on a Samsung phone (the Galaxy S25 to start). Google also mentioned that you could use multiple extensions in a single prompt. The example they give is of someone asking Gemini for recipes and then telling it to save those in a note on Samsung Notes. These multi-extension prompts are available now on Android, iOS, and the web.

Google Gemini is Getting Better On Your Android Phone
Since the launch of the Galaxy S24 series last year, Samsung has integrated AI into its software a lot -- both through Google's suite of AI features and through Samsung's own. Google made an appearance on Samsung's latest Unpacked event to show off some improvements to both Gemini and Circle to Search, and not everything is Samsung-only. At Samsung's Unpacked event, where the company showed off the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra, Google also showed off some improvements to Circle to Search and Gemini. One of the most notable ones is a big change to Gemini Live, now incorporating images, files, and YouTube videos into the conversation. You can now actually use more than just your words in a spoken conversation with Gemini, and it should otherwise function like the text chat version. Gemini Live with multimedia support will initially be available on Samsung Galaxy S24 and S25, as well as Google's own Pixel 9 devices, with broader Android availability planned for the coming weeks. Google is also deepening Gemini's integration with apps. It already works with apps like YouTube, Google Maps, Gmail, and Spotify. Now, it will also integrate with Samsung apps like Calendar, Notes, Reminder, and Clock on the Galaxy S25. These, of course, are Samsung-only apps, so sadly, you can only take advantage of these integrations on Samsung phones. Additionally, you can now instruct Gemini to utilize multiple extensions in a single prompt, streamlining complex tasks like finding recipes and saving them to a note-taking app. This multi-extension capability is available across all Gemini platforms: web, Android, and iOS. On the Galaxy S25, Gemini can now be launched with a long-press of the side button, so you can quickly fire up your AI assistant on the go. Furthermore, "Deep Research," which has been available on the desktop version of Gemini Advanced for a while now, will begin rolling out in the mobile app. Aside from the Samsung-specific integrations and the shortcut, all of these changes will be available eventually for most Android users, so that's pretty good. In a separate announcement, Google also highlighted updates to its "Circle to Search" feature, introduced last year. Circle to Search now provides AI-powered overviews for a wider range of visual search results, offering you contextual information and links to learn more about circled objects. The feature is also enhanced to recognize and take action on numbers, email addresses, and URLs, allowing users to interact with them with a single tap. All of these changes will be rolling out over the next few months, first to Samsung and Pixel users, and we'll likely learn about availability for other phones down the road. Source: Google

Google Announces Gemini Updates Alongside Samsung's New Phones - Phandroid
Alongside the launch of Samsung's new Galaxy S25 series devices, Google likewise announced major updates to its many AI features including Gemini and Circle to Search. Google and Samsung have long collaborated to bring many major Androud features to more devices, and with that in mind let's check out what's new this time around. For Gemini, Galaxy S25 users will be able to instantly summon Google's AI assistant via a long-press with the power button, and Gemini Extensions will add support for several Samsung apps including Reminder, Calendar, Notes and Clock. Gemini will also be able to chain actions - for example, a user can instruct Gemini to search for nearby restaurants, followed by writing a message draft in Google Messages. READ: Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra versus Galaxy S24 Ultra: is it Worth the Upgrade? Additionally, Users can now add media files and documents when conversing with Gemini Live, and Project Astra capabilities including screen sharing and live video streaming will be available for the Gemini mobile app. For Circle to Search, Google is expanding AI Overviews for more searches including trending images, places, and unique objects to name a few. An interesting new addition is the integration of a generative AI snapshot which will include additional information and web links which will be easily accessible, and won't require users to switch apps. Google will also add one-tap actions for phone numbers, web links and email addresses with Circle to Search. Samsung's Now Bar feature will also integrate smart space cards - for example, users can get sports updates about their favourite teams via Google directly on their lock screen, and you can even tap on cards to get even more in-depth info on Google Search. For accessibility, the Galaxy S25 series will get LE Audio support for enhanced hearing aid connectivity with hands-free calling and personalized audio. Additionally, Braille display support via HID is coming to TalkBack 15 on Samsung Galaxy S25 devices, with a wider rollout planned in the future. TalkBack image descriptions on Samsung devices will use Gemini models for improved accuracy and descriptions in the coming weeks.

Google Gemini's Project Astra era is closer than you think
Gemini's newest extension finally makes it a decent Google Assistant alternative Samsung just pulled the wraps off this year's flagship Galaxy S25 series, but it is accompanied by a bunch of announcements from Google as well. Some of these new features bring Gemini closer to becoming the Assistant replacement we always wanted, and aren't even exclusive to the latest crop of Samsung phones. It brings the AI closer to an agent-like status where you can delegate tasks for execution, taking the burden off your shoulders. Related Samsung's Galaxy S25 supports Google's multimodal Gemini Nano AI model With certain actions happening entirely on-device Posts Google Gemini took giant strides in 2024, with the launch of Gemini 2.0 stepping up capabilities from multimodal prompting to more Search-like functionality. Gemini now allows you to "chain" prompts and queries with other services and apps. You can ask the assistant to look up nearby restaurants on Google Maps, or create a text message from scratch. You can do this on any phone with Gemini, depending on the installed extensions. Source: Google Gemini can now chain actions across apps While the Messages feature overlaps with Magic Compose, it's an effort to centralize access to overlapping AI tools. Such integration is also a vast improvement from the more complicated itinerary planning features introduced last year with Gemini extensions. Speaking of, the company also announced GalaxyS25-exclusive Gemini integrations such with the default Calendar, Reminder, Clock and Notes apps. Source: Google Files and YouTube link support in gemini Live Gemini Live is the real-time voice chatbot version of the same AI, and Google just announced you can now pull in a few more external items for the AI to chew through. Specifically, the company has added support for user-uploaded images or files so you can enjoy summaries read out to you, followed by a back-and-forth conversation about the file's contents. Moreover, Gemini Live also allows pulling in a YouTube URL now, so you can chat with the AI about said video, be it for topical discussion, a summary of the comments, or a broader overview of the subject for additional research. We spotted this capability in development earlier in January, and it is rolling out already to the new S25, last year's Galaxy S24, and the Google Pixel 9. Project Astra from the future is here Big things visible in the distance Source: Google Project Astra was demoed alongside other key Gemini advancements early last year as the next logical step after Gemini Live, with a full audio-video experience, and what we would've imagined as the distant future of AI is already starting to take shape. Google just confirmed that Astra features like screen sharing and real-time live video streaming are coming to the Gemini app for Android in the coming months. Once they arrive, you can simply point at things in your phone camera's field of view or quiz the AI about them. The company hasn't committed to a date yet, but made it clear the new Samsung Galaxy S25 series and Pixel devices will be the first to receive this feature. Hopefully, it will trickle down to older devices compatible with the app in due course.

Google unveils Gemini AI is now capable of chaining actions together
TL;DR: Google Gemini, highlighted at the Galaxy Unpacked event, introduces AI features with the Samsung S25 series, including 'chaining actions' across apps. Google Gemini was one of the standouts of the recent Galaxy Unpacked event, showcasing a range of interesting AI features to launch with the Samsung S25 series. The reception has been promising, to such an extent that the Verge declared "Google's Gemini is already winning the next-gen assistant wars". One of the key features that has people talking, is the ability to 'chain actions together'. For example, asking the assistant to find a restaurant on Google Maps, and then have it compose a text to send to a colleague. This was the example showcased in the S25 Leaks, and its unveiling at the event only further highlighted its potential. The functionality to 'chain apps' in Gemini is largely dependent on the developer's support for the app - meaning, they'll need to be coded for that purpose. However, all major Google apps, and notable Samsung apps, including Samsung Calendar, Reminder, Notes, and Clock, will ship with these capabilities included. The reveal also showcased 'Gemini Live' - Google's new conversational AI features, which would allow you to upload files, images, and YouTube videos to your conversations. In addition to tProject Astra, which allows you to utilize the AI assistant to take photos, ask questions, and interact with the world. The push towards creating the quintessential AI assistant is currently operating in Google's favour. While the AI arms race is always ushering in new developments, Samsung Galaxy fans will have a lot to look forward to.

Gemini app gets multi-Extension prompts, Project Astra coming to Pixel and S25
As part of Samsung's Galaxy S25 launch, Google announced the latest Android, Circle to Search, and Gemini app features. A prompt can have multiple commands and Gemini will use different Extensions to accomplish the actions. This is available now on Android, iOS, and the web. For example: On Samsung devices, Gemini can now be launched by long-pressing the side/power button. This brings up the redesigned overlay for immediate voice input. Additionally, there are new Gemini Extensions for Samsung Calendar, Samsung Clock, Samsung Notes, and Samsung Reminder on the S25. Meanwhile, Gemini Live will let you add images, files, and YouTube videos to real-time conversations. Specifically, the overlay will show a "Talk Live about this" suggestion chip for media. This is rolling out starting today on the Pixel 9, Galaxy S25, and S24 for a "more multimodal, personal and contextual" Gemini Live. It's coming to "more Android devices in the coming weeks." When you ask "What makes this painting so famous," Gemini Live is aware of the subject and can reply as such: "It's a prime example of Van Gogh's vibrant, Post-Impressionist style." In the "coming months," Project Astra's screen sharing and live video streaming/capture capabilities are coming to the Gemini app on Pixel and the Galaxy S25. Meanwhile, Circle to Search's AI Overview answers are coming to visual searches for places, trending images, unique objects and more. Circle to Search is also getting one-tap actions when URLs (open), email addresses (send), and phone numbers (call are identified. On the Android front, Google Search will support the S25's Now Bar to show sport scores and key match updates. Google Maps will show directions and time to leave notifications for appointments that factor traffic conditions. When you pair GN Hearing and Oticon Intent hearing aids to the Android 15-powered Galaxy S25, you'll get Bluetooth LE features like "hands-free calling, easy-to-use personalized audio adjustments, and a low-latency connection." TalkBack 15 on the Galaxy S25 is compatible with Braille displays that use HID, thus saving users from additional set-up steps. Lastly, TalkBack on the new devices will use Gemini models for more detailed image descriptions.

Google completely stole Samsung's thunder at Unpacked
At its first Unpacked event of the year, Samsung talked extensively about the Gemini-driven AI capabilities on their phones. And for a moment, I was excited, until I came across a Google press release. Of the two major features discussed on stage, one of them is already coming to Pixels, and the other one will be available on iPhones, Androids, and the desktop web. Recommended Videos Google just announced a host of changes for its Gemini assistant that truly push it in the agentic AI era. Let's start with extensions, which essentially require an "@" system (a la Workspace) in the chats to get a task done in the target app. So, let's say I tell Gemini "Say hi to Christina @WhatsApp," it would send a text in the messaging app. For Google apps, you can even skip the extensions, as the AI will contextually default to the appropriate services such as Messages or Map. Please enable Javascript to view this content Now, Gemini will be able to use multiple extensions in a single prompt. So, a command like "find me the nearest kebab house and send it to Drew" will get the job done across Maps and Messages. This capability is already rolling across the Pixel 9 series smartphones. If you own a Samsung Galaxy S25 series phone, Gemini will dip into the data stored across Samsung's own services, such as Calendar and Notes, as well. Multi-extension support will eventually make its way to iOS, Android, and the web version of Gemini, as well. Gemini Live, the conversational side of Gemini is also getting a major overhaul. So far, it has only been able to engage in audio conversations with users. Now, users can also add images, YouTube videos, and local files to their conversations with Gemini Live. So far, this capability has been limited to text interactions with Gemini, or within the experimental NotebookLM tool. This feature will appear on the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S25, and Google Pixel 9 series phones starting today. In the coming weeks, screen sharing and live streaming capabilities will also make their way to Gemini. This is finally going to bring Google's ambitious Project Astra system to smartphones. Another fantastic update is the arrival of Deep Research in the Gemini mobile. Deep Research is the most practically rewarding Gemini product by a far margin, as it reimagines the entire internet search experience and presents information only from specified sources. There are no risks of hallucinations, or the added stress of fact-checking, as long as you trust the sources of your information. But do keep in mind that you need a Gemini Advanced subscription to access it.

Google has just announced the ability to chain actions in Gemini and it could change the way we use AI for good
To coincide with the launch of the Samsung S25 range of devices, at today's Galaxy Unpacked, Google has announced some impressive updates to its Gemini AI platform. Many of the improvements are specific to devices like the new Samsung S25, but some also work on the older Samsung S24 and the Pixel 9 phones. The stand-out feature is Gemini's new ability to chain actions together. This means you can now do things like connect to Google Maps to search for nearby restaurants, then draft a text in Google Messages to send to people you'd like to invite to lunch, all through Gemini commands. The chaining ability is being added to all devices that run Gemini, "depending on extensions", which means that the extensions to link the particular app to Gemini will need to be written by a developer for them to be included. Naturally, all the major Google apps have extensions for Gemini already, but extensions are also available for the Samsung Reminder, Samsung Calendar, Samsung Notes, and Samsung Clock apps. Google's Gemini Live, the part of Gemini that gives you the opportunity to have a natural, human-like conversation with the AI, is also getting some major multimodal upgrades. You will now be able to upload images, files, and YouTube videos to the conversation you're having, so, for example, you could ask Gemini Live, "Hey, take a look at this picture of my school project and tell me how I could make this better", then upload the picture, and get a response. The Gemini multimodal improvements are not available across the board, however, and will require a Galaxy S24, S25, or Pixel 9 to work. Finally, Google has announced that Project Astra capabilities will be coming in the next few months, arriving first on Galaxy S25 and Pixel phones. Project Astra is Google's prototype AI assistant that enables you to interact with the world around you, asking questions about what you're looking at and where you are using your phone's camera. So, you can simply point your phone at something and ask Gemini to tell you something about it, or ask it when the next stop on your bus route will be. Project Astra works on mobile phones, but takes your experience to the next level when combined with Google's prototype hands-free AI glasses, so you can simply start asking Gemini questions about what you're looking at, without having to interact with a screen at all. While there's still no news about a release date for this next generation of Google glasses, they will join Meta Ray-Ban glasses in the emerging market for AI wearables when they finally become available.

Google promotes new Gemini Live, AI features coming to Pixel 9
There was a big Google presence at the Galaxy S25 launch event this morning. Google is now specifically telling Pixel 9 owners (and prospective buyers) about what new Gemini AI features they are set to get. A banner on store.google.com today announces "New Gemini Live and Circle to Search features on Pixel 9 phones." Gemini Live's new ability to "talk you through the images, files, and videos you see on Pixel" is the main highlight. Specifically: From the redesigned Gemini overlay -- which Google did not talk about today, you can take a new picture or add an existing one to your gallery from the 'plus' menu. There's also "Ask about screen" to screenshot your current display, "Ask about PDF" when in Files by Google, and "Ask about video" in YouTube. Once uploaded, you'll see a "Talk Live about this" button just above the overlay. Tapping brings you into Gemini Live with what you attached appearing above the blue/purple glow. This is rolling out starting today to the Pixel 9 series, as well Galaxy S24 and S25, "starting today." We're not yet seeing this live. It will next "come to Pixel 6 and later phones soon." The next step will be Project Astra's screen sharing and live video streaming capabilities in Gemini, with Google sharing the latest look at the interface today. That will be available in the "coming months" in the "Gemini app on Pixel" and S25. Google is also beginning to roll out Deep Research to Gemini Advanced subscribers in the mobile after introducing last month in the web client. It will be available for "Pixel phones in the next few days." In terms of what is live today, you can "ask Gemini to use multiple extensions in a single prompt." Multi-Extension prompts are available on Android, iOS, and the web, with the Gemini animation cycling through them. For example, you can ask Gemini for some high-protein lunch recipes and then easily save them to a note directly on Google Keep, or ask Gemini for nearby activities and text them to a friend with Google Messages. Outside of Gemini, Circle to Search will show AI Overviews (results) when you highlight "places, trending images, unique objects, and more." It will also recognize phone numbers, email addresses, and URLs for one-tap calling, emailing, and browsing, respectively. Google also showed off the simpler Circle to Search UI that places everything in a pill-shaped container. This is not yet widely rolled out.

By circling one of these items, you can immediately make a call, send a message, or visit a site. Also: I changed these 12 settings on my Android phone to instantly improve battery life Google also says it's expanding AI Overviews for Circle to Search, providing them with a greater number of searches for places, trending images, unique objects, and more. Just like it does for regular Google searches, Circle to Search will produce an AI-generated snapshot of helpful information with links to learn more. This is coming to all Android devices where AI Overviews are available.
