HP Introduces AI PCs and Solutions at CES 2025
The newest next-generation AI PCs in HP's commercial lineup all feature HP AI Companion, a CES 2025 Innovation Awards honoree. Personalize PC settings and summarize documents to get up to speed quickly and make smarter decisions in just a few minutes. HP Wolf Security delivers built-in intelligence that protects at every level of the endpoint amidst rapidly evolving cyber threats. HP shows off three next-gen laptops and revamps its desktops at CES 2025
At CES 2025, HP announced several new laptops, desktops, and an AIO computer. They range from consumer-grade and gaming hardware to office machines with interesting designs. From the looks of things, the company isn't going to reinvent or totally overhaul any of its products, instead taking everything that worked well in 2024 and upping the ante with improved hardware. Also: ZDNET joins CNET Group to award the Best of CES, and you can submit your entry now AI remains a major force in the space, as its new EliteBook laptops feature the latest Intel Core Ultra processors. The same goes for the revamped OmniStudio X and the OmniDesk PC -- building on the previous release with an emphasis on accessible AI features. These products have a lot to cover, so to keep things concise, we'll focus on specs, key features, and design. For professionals on the go, HP announced the new EliteBook Ultra G1i. It is a lightweight machine, clocking in at 2.63 pounds, and is 12.1mm at its thickest. I mention its dimensions because the laptop does not have a uniform design, as it is thicker at the front than at the back. This tells me the model could have good weight distribution. Lifting the screen with one finger won't cause it to shift backward. Speaking of which, HP has given the model a 3K (2880 x 1800 pixels) OLED display that supports the entire DCI-P3 color gamut and a maximum brightness level of 400 nits. This translates to a laptop with a stunning screen, perfect for creative endeavors. Under the hood is an Intel Core Ultra 5 processor and 16GB of RAM, although buyers can upgrade the hardware. Other notable features include support for Wi-Fi 7, ensuring fast internet connectivity, a speaker system fine-tuned by Poly Studio, and a 9MP camera. On the surface, HP's new EliteBook X G1i is similar to the Ultra model, focusing on the professional use case. However, unlike the previous entry, this one is geared more toward the budget-conscious consumer. It doesn't have a hardware configuration as robust as the Ultra laptop. The laptop also lacks the 3K display, opting for a more modest 2.5K screen to keep the price low. Its dimensions also show it's thicker at 17.55mm and has the potential to weigh more. It starts at 2.60 lbs at its highest, but this can vary depending on the configuration. Moreover, it lacks the 9MP camera, as the EliteBook X has a 5MP lens. Also: Intel's next-gen Core Ultra chips could set a new high standard for mobile computing in 2025 Of course, the laptop is no slouch. It'll still have the latest Intel Core Ultra 5 and 7 processors, complete with NPU. Storage capacity goes up to a generous 2TB, memory peaks at 32GB, and even the port selection is similar. I can confidently say that this will be the mid-range option, but exact pricing is not yet available. The HP EliteBook X Flip G1i takes the standard EliteBook X model and gives it a more flexible design. Its unique hinge allows users to push the display all the way back, turning the laptop into a tablet. It's important to mention that the design increased the weight of the laptop, which now weighs 3.06 pounds, but keep in mind that the Flip model isn't super bulky compared to the standard version. Also: CES 2025: What to expect and how to watch Other than that, you have a laptop housing similar hardware to the EliteBook X. Buyers can enjoy good performance from the Intel Core 7 processor, quick speeds from the 32GB of RAM, and fast connectivity from Wi-Fi 7. Nothing is changing much on that front, so if you want a flexible hinge and a laptop with a tough exterior, then the EliteBook X Flip is right up your alley. Big changes are coming to HP's desktop offerings, courtesy of the OmniDesk series, with each model seemingly targeted at different groups. Starting from the bottom, the OmniDesk Slim appears to be the mid-range model, housing a humble configuration consisting of an Intel Core i7-14800 processor, an integrated Intel UHD graphics card, a 1TB SSD, and just 16GB of RAM. Nothing too crazy, but it seems perfect for users who need a low-cost desktop. Above that is the standard OmniDesk PC, which sports similar hardware, albeit with more memory and additional space. There is also a more powerful version of the OmniDesk PC housing an AMD Ryzen 7 8700G, a discrete Nvidia 3050 graphics card for tough workloads, and an integrated Radeon GPU for everyday browsing. Also: The 2-in-1 laptop I recommend for most people is not a Dell or Lenovo (and it's on sale) Standing on top of the rest is the OmniDesk AI PC. It has the latest Intel Core Ultra processors plus a GeForce RTX 4060 graphics card to deliver optimal performance. What's interesting about the last two is that they have wood paneling. At first, I thought this was a strange choice, but I can see how the wood allows the PCs to blend in better inside an office setting. HP is a strong force in the AIO (all-in-one) computer market, with several entries from the brand on our best AIO list. It seems that HP will continue to dominate with its new OmniStudio X 27-inch AIO desktop. This device has everything you could want in a computer and may be a good choice for people who don't have room for a tower. Inside the Full HD display is an Intel Core Ultra 7 258V processor, alongside 32GB of RAM and an integrated Intel Arc graphics card. Also: Every Samsung TV announced at CES 2025: Best features coming to OLED, QLED, 8K models HP's PolyStudio sub-brand has fine-tuned its dual-speaker system, and when combined with the HP Audio Boost software, it should allow the speakers to fill an entire room with rich audio. Additionally, there will be a 4K option available at launch. If you prefer a bigger screen, HP plans to sell a 31.5-inch OmniStudio X alongside the base version. It'll only be available in 4K resolution. This model even has AI features such as Adaptive Audio, Adaptive Dimming, and wake-on approach. That last tool allows the AIO to automatically wake up when you get close to it.

HP at CES 2025: The latest Elitebooks are Copilot+ PCs powered by Intel's new AI chips
HP announced three new 14-inch Elitebooks at CES 2025, all powered by the latest Intel processors. The laptop lineup includes the Elitebook Ultra G1i -- it has a 3K OLED screen, a 9MP webcam and a haptic touchpad -- and two Elitebook X models, one of which is a 360-degree-folding 2-in-1. As to be expected, HP is billing these laptops as AI PCs. While that's due in part to the unwritten rule that every new gadget must have AI stuffed inside, it's also practically due to Intel's Core Ultra 5 and 7 chips being built precisely for that purpose, with three compute engines for on-device AI tasks. All three Elitebooks are Copilot+ PCs and can zip through AI tasks at 48 TOPS (trillion operations per second). All three Elitebooks ship in configurations with 16GB or 32GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage. The EliteBook Ultra G1i has a higher-end screen, webcam and touchpad than the others. Its display will be available in touch and non-touch configurations, both of which are 14-inch OLED panels with 2,880 x 1,880 resolution. The laptop has a 9MP webcam, and its onboard AI can upscale video calls beyond that. Its audio setup should impress, too, with "studio-quality dual microphones" and quad speakers. The non-touch version weighs 2.63 pounds (just under 1.2 kg), and the touch model is slightly heavier at 2.68 pounds (around 1.2 kg). Its touchpad is haptic-based (like Apple's MacBooks have been for years). That should make it evenly "clickable" -- it doesn't click inward but feels that way -- across its entire surface. HP's EliteBook X G1i and EliteBook X Flip G1i are similar and differentiated mostly by form factor. The Flip earns its name by flipping back with a 360-degree hinge, while the standard one has a traditional clamshell design. Compared to the Ultra, these models have lower-resolution LCD panels: 1,920 x 1,200 in most configurations, with a 2,560 x 1,600 option also available for both. The machines also have a lower-resolution webcam (5MP) than the Ultra. In line with its 2-in-1 nature, the Flip has a touchscreen in all variants, while the standard has touch and non-touch models. It works with (but doesn't include) HP's $99 Rechargeable Active Pen. HP hasn't announced pricing or release date info for any of the new Ultrabooks, but they'll be on display at CES 2025 in Las Vegas this week.

HP Debuts EliteBook X and Ultra Laptops With Latest Intel AI CPUs
Expertise Laptops | Desktops | All-in-one PCs | Streaming devices | Streaming platforms We are now living in the post-Pavilion era. HP is retiring its Pavilion brand, along with the Envy, Spectre and Dragonfly lines, as it introduces its OmniBook line of consumer laptops and EliteBook line of commercial laptops. You'll still find the remaining stock of Pavilions and other previous-gen models on HP's site and elsewhere, but HP's new laptops will fall into either the OmniBook or EliteBook line, with the exception of gaming laptops that will still carry the Omen name. (And there are also some new, low-end commercial models that will be called ProBooks.) I reviewed one of the first OmniBooks last fall in the form of the Snapdragon-based OmniBook X 14: It was the longest-running laptop we tested last year, with a battery life of more than 25 hours. Today at CES, HP has announced a trio of new EliteBook models based on Intel Core Ultra Series 2 CPUs, as well as a few OmniDesk and OmniStudio PCs. Let's have a look. I originally thought the "X" in the OmniBook X 14 meant that it had a Snapdragon X processor, but that is not the case. The X signifies its place in the OmniBook or EliteBook line's hierarchy, with OmniBooks ranging from entry-level OmniBook 3 to X, and EliteBooks ranging from an EliteBook 2 to X. OmniBooks get odd number signifiers (with an exception made for X or 10, it would appear) and EliteBook gets even numbers. At the top of each line are Ultra models, with are one step above OmniBook X and EliteBook X units. At CES today, HP announced three new 14-inch EliteBook X models. The EliteBook X G1i 14 is based on Intel Core Ultra CPUs and features a 14-inch touch display with a modest 1,920x1,200-pixel resolution. HP's Sure View privacy is an optional feature, and you can choose it with a bright 400 or 500-nit rating or an exceptionally bright 800-nit rating if your work takes you outside. There is also a 2.5K (2,560x1,600) panel rated for 400 nits that offers 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 and AdobeRGB color gamuts. The second model -- the EliteBook X G1i Flip -- is simply a two-in-one version of the EliteBook X G1i laptop. The third model is the Intel-based EliteBook Ultra G1i that's lighter than the EliteBook X models while supplying a higher-resolution OLED screen, a higher-resolution webcam and a haptic touchpad. According to HP, the EliteBook Ultra G1i has a starting weight of 2.63 pounds, which is nearly a half pound lighter than the 3.06-pound starting weight for the EliteBook X. The EliteBook Ultra G1i features a 14-inch OLED display with a 3K (2,880x1,800) resolution that's available with or without touch support. It's rated for 400 nits of brightness and 100% DCI-P3 coverage. The webcam gets a bump from the 5-megapixel camera of the EliteBook X to an even finer 9 megapixels. That will have you looking crisp and sharp on video calls. Another upgrade with the EliteBook Ultra that shouldn't be overlooked is the touchpad -- it trades the standard mechanical touchpad of the EliteBook X for one with haptic feedback. If it's anything like the haptic touchpad that I used on last year's HP Spectre x360 14 and 16 models, then it will be a joy to use. Haptic touchpads offer a consistent click response across the touchpad's entire surface, and they can be customized so you can dial in the feel to your exact specifications. The top-of-the-line EliteBook Ultra G1i has a top-of-the-line price. It starts at $2,019 and will start shipping later this month. HP is calling these three models Next Gen AI PCs because they feature Intel's second-gen Core Ultra processors that have NPUs capable of 48 TOPS for local AI processing. These new Intel processors also mean that these EliteBooks can also be called Copilot Plus PCs, a label that Microsoft created to mean a thin-and-light laptop with an NPU capable of 40 TOPS or more. It's not all laptop news from HP at CES. It also introduced the OmniDesk line of desktop PCs. These tower desktops feature a faux-wood finish on the front, and inside offer a mix of Intel and AMD CPUs and up to Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 graphics and 500-watt power supplies. HP also introduced new models to its previously announced OmniDesk X all-in-one series. The latest OmniDesk X models feature Intel Core Ultra 200 series chips for greater local AI processing ability than the first models based on Core Ultra 100 CPUs. Like the previous models, these new all-in-ones are available with either a 27-inch or 31.5-inch display.

CES 2025 First Look: New HP EliteBooks, Z2 Mini Have All the AI Pros Need
HP's professional systems are getting an added dose of AI, with new Copilot+ AI features coming to the EliteBook line and the compact Z2 Mini workstation. Catering to the evolving needs of modern professionals, HP has unveiled its latest lineup of EliteBook laptops, showcasing a range of powerful and versatile options featuring cutting-edge Intel Core Ultra processors. Even the small but mighty Z2 Mini desktop gets an AI boost with an AMD Ryzen AI Max Pro processor and neural processing unit. HP EliteBook G1i Systems Bring Next-Gen AI to Professional Laptops and 2-in-1s The three new models -- the EliteBook Ultra G1i, EliteBook X Flip G1i, and EliteBook X G1i -- share a common foundation of impressive specifications, and each also offers unique features to suit diverse user preferences. The HP G1i series of EliteBook PCs is powered by the latest generation of Intel Core Ultra processors, specifically the Ultra 5 and Ultra 7 models, which include a neural processing unit (NPU) to enhance AI capabilities. The integration of the NPU allows for on-device AI tasks, whether it's a better-looking image during video calls, faster data processing, or secure summarizing and generation that boost productivity while protecting your data. The EliteBook systems boast Windows 11 Home and Windows 11 Pro operating system options, along with 14-inch displays with resolutions ranging from WUXGA (1,920 by 1,200 pixels) to a stunning 3K (2,880 by 1,800 pixels). Users can choose between touch- and non-touch panel configurations, ensuring a seamless experience tailored to their needs. All three models can be equipped with up to 32GB of RAM and up to 2TB of lightning-fast SSD storage, providing ample power and capacity for demanding workloads. Connectivity is a key focus, with the EliteBook lineup offering multiple Thunderbolt 4 ports, USB Type-A, and a headphone/microphone combo jack, as well as the latest Intel Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 technologies, with optional 4G LTE and 5G capabilities. Audio and camera features also receive upgrades, with Poly Studio-powered audio and AI-driven camera capabilities, ensuring a seamless collaboration experience. HP EliteBook X Flip G1i Designed for the modern professional on the move, the HP EliteBook Ultra G1i stands out with its exceptionally thin and lightweight ultraportable design, starting at just 2.63 pounds and measuring less than 0.6 inch thick. But this compact laptop has big visual chops, with a stunning 400-nit OLED display and a 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, ensuring vibrant and accurate visuals. Complementing the display is the Intel integrated graphics, which provide a seamless multimedia experience without needing a dedicated GPU. HP EliteBook X Flip G1i For those seeking the versatility of a 2-in-1 device, the HP EliteBook X Flip G1i offers a convertible design with a 360-degree hinge, allowing users to seamlessly transition between laptop and tablet modes. This model also features optional HP Sure View privacy screen technology, which helps protect sensitive information from prying eyes by making content visible to the laptop user, but obscuring it for unauthorized viewers who might be peering over your shoulder. While slightly heavier than the Ultra G1i, at 3.06 pounds, the Flip G1i compensates with a versatile flip-and-fold design with tablet capability and a choice of 56Whr or 68Whr battery options, ensuring extended productivity on the go. HP EliteBook X G1i Catering to users who demand the ultimate in visual performance, the HP EliteBook X G1i notebook offers a 2.5K (2,560-by-1,600-pixel) display option with a 120Hz refresh rate. This high-resolution, high-refresh-rate panel delivers a captivating viewing experience for professional tasks and immersive entertainment. While slightly heavier than the Ultra G1i at 2.6 pounds, the X G1i's design is slightly thicker, at 0.69 inch, allowing for enhanced thermal management and potentially longer-lasting performance. The HP EliteBook Ultra G1i will be available on HP.com later this month, starting at $2,019. The EliteBook X Flip G1i and EliteBook X G1i are also expected to launch in January, with pricing details for the latter two models to be announced closer to their availability. HP Z2 Mini G1a Revs Up Workstations With AI Capabilities HP has also announced the Z2 Mini G1a Workstation, a next-generation AI workstation PC. This compact powerhouse enables professionals to tackle complex AI-accelerated projects, allowing simultaneous 3D design and rendering of graphics-intensive tasks or local work with large language models (LLMs). Equipped with an AMD Ryzen AI Max Pro processor, the Z2 Mini G1a features up to 16 CPU cores and 128GB of unified memory, with the option to allocate up to 96GB of RAM to the GPU. The workstation boasts hardware AI accelerators delivering up to 50 TOPS of NPU performance, making it suitable for demanding workflows. The HP Z2 Mini G1a packs all of this capability into a chassis small enough to be stowed behind a monitor or attached under a desk. Its slim design allows for versatile placement, including high-density configurations with five units in a 4U rack. Environmentally friendly, the Z2 Mini G1a is made from 60% recycled plastics and 20% recycled steel and comes in sustainably sourced packaging. The Z2 Mini G1a supports all sorts of software environments, including Windows 11 Pro, WSL2, and Linux, and it benefits from storage options of up to 8TB with dual NVMe modules and RAID capabilities. The Z2 Mini G1a supports multi-display setups with up to four 4K displays and features fast Wi-Fi 7 for reliable connectivity. The HP Z2 Mini G1a Workstation is expected to be available later this year, with pricing details to be announced closer to its launch date.

HP's new Elitebooks are Copilot+ PCs powered by Intel's new AI chips
At CES 2025, HP has three new 14-inch Elitebooks powered by the latest Intel processors. The laptop lineup includes the Elitebook Ultra G1i -- it has a 3K OLED screen, a 9MP webcam and a haptic touchpad -- and two Elitebook X models, one of which is a 360-degree-folding 2-in-1. Naturally, HP is marketing all three as AI PCs. That's not only because of the mandatory "every new gadget must have AI stuffed inside" rule but also because Intel's Core Ultra 5 and 7 chips were built for that purpose, with three compute engines for on-device AI tasks.

CES 2025 First Look: HP's OmniDesk PCs Show Off Arboreal Style, AI Power
It's not often at CES that you see high-style, affordable desktop PCs. It's just not that kind of show; usually the stuff on display is high-end. But HP has filled that void with its new OmniDesk tower PCs. I saw these new desktops firsthand before their CES 2025 debut, and I'm excited for a new range of home-oriented PCs to test. These new towers come in two varieties. One is a standard-size desktop with a fun wood-grain front panel hiding intake fans, with the panel set alongside lots of front-facing ports. The second is a slimmer, smaller version of that, which drops the wood feature and a few ports in the front. HP hasn't yet issued pricing or release-date information for these towers. Here's everything else I learned about these first desktops in HP's new OmniDesk family, much of which boils down to style touches and a focus on multiple choices of AI performance. Meet the First OmniDesk: A Potent Midrange PC to Match the Den Furniture The first thing you notice about the new OmniDesk is the striking wood paneling on its face. This comes in a dark-brown finish for Intel-based processor options and a gray finish for the AMD Ryzen chip varieties. Regardless of your processor choice, the OmniDesk comes with one USB Type-C port at 10Gbps, another USB Type-C at 5Gbps, two USB Type-A ports at 10Gbps, two more USB Type-A at 5Gbps, and a 3.5mm headset jack, all striped down the front panel. Around the back, both versions have four USB 2.0 Type-A ports, three audio jacks (for in, out, and microphone), an Ethernet jack, HDMI 2.1, and DisplayPort 1.4a. Even the standard OmniDesk is relatively small, at 13.3 by 6.1 by 12.4 inches (HWD), though it's certainly dense at 14 pounds. I didn't have the chance to look inside to see just how upgradable these towers are, but you can expect at least memory and storage to be replaceable. Speaking of the insides, you have lots of choices with the OmniDesk. First up is the dark-wood Intel option, which focuses on Intel Core Ultra "Arrow Lake" chips. Your options are the Core Ultra 5 225, the Core Ultra 7 265, or either of those chips' "F" variants lacking integrated Arc graphics. For those desktops containing F-grade processors, you'll need to add an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 discrete-card option at checkout. On the AMD side, you get the dark-gray finish and your choice of an AMD Ryzen 5 8500G or a Ryzen 7 8700G processor. Both of these CPUs employ integrated Radeon graphics, but HP has added a GeForce RTX 3050 to boost the tower's visual capabilities. (Oddly, though, it opts for this lesser card, versus the superior RTX 4060 in the Intel systems that come with a discrete GPU.) Regardless of your processor choice, you get identical memory and storage options: Those are 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB of RAM and SSD capacities ranging from 256GB to 2TB. These OmniDesk versions will come with keyboards that include the Microsoft Copilot AI key, plus a basic mouse, for a complete out-of-the-box experience. All told, these look like capable tower PCs that could blend into a living room or den with similarly styled furniture. I'm also excited to see how these midrange Intel Core Ultra chips fare in our benchmark suite. HP OmniDesk Slim Trims Down the Size, Style, and Performance For the budget-strapped, HP's OmniDesk Slim dials down just about everything while presenting a fine PC for basic work that won't take up much space. Rather than blending in with the furniture, this tower will just hide from sight, either under a desk or laid flat underneath a monitor. The tower has fewer ports overall, with three USB Type-A at 5Gbps and a single USB Type-C at 10Gbps up front joined by a 3.5mm headset jack. Around the back, you'll find four more USB 2.0 ports, another audio jack, an RJ-45 Ethernet port, HDMI 1.4b, and DisplayPort 1.4a. As a more affordable version of the proper OmniDesk, the Slim model lacks any AI processing hardware and instead has options for Intel's "Raptor Lake" chips. These start with a baseline Intel 300 chip, then a slight bump up to a few 13th Gen Intel Core i3 choices, finally superseded by beefier 13th and 14th Gen Core i5 and Core i7 options at the higher end. The highest-end OmniDesk Slim configurations also have half as much maximum RAM and storage as the full-size OmniDesk, at 16GB and 1TB, respectively. Naturally, you'll also have integrated Intel UHD Graphics to work with on this model. This all amounts to a budget desktop that weighs just 8.4 pounds and measures 11.97 by 3.9 by 11.6 inches (HWD), which is smaller in width than some ultraportable laptops. While we don't have pricing details yet for the OmniDesk Slim, its spec sheet suggests it'll be a budget family. We're looking forward to testing it, given the dearth of budget-minded PCs these days. Stay tuned to PCMag this year as we work on getting fully tested reviews for both of these OmniDesk varieties.

This device also features two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, one USB Type-A port, an HDMI 2.1 port, and a headphone/microphone combo jack. Finally, the HP EliteBook X Flip G1i introduces flexibility with its 360-degree hinge, enabling users to switch between four different usage modes: laptop, tablet, tent, and stand. This model weighs slightly more at 1.39 kg, largely due to its convertible nature, but its display options are identical to the X G1i, with WUXGA and 2.5K resolutions, and the same brightness configurations ranging from 400 to 800 nits. However, the touchscreen functionality makes the Flip G1i particularly useful for creative professionals and those who need an interactive display for note-taking or presentations. The X Flip G1i supports 16GB to 32GB of LPDDR5X memory, and offers up to 2TB of PCIe Gen4x4 NVMe SSD storage. Its connectivity options include Intel Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and optional 5G support. Like the other models, it includes two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, one USB Type-A port, and an HDMI 2.1 port. The X Flip G1i is powered by HP Long Life batteries available in 56Wh or 68Wh, with USB-C fast charging support for uninterrupted productivity.
