iPhone 17 Pro Max could be the only model with 12GB RAM, says new report
Apple is gearing up to launch the iPhone 16 series next month, but details about the iPhone 17 series are already surfacing. Ming-Chi Kuo of TF International Securities analyst reveals that the iPhone 17 lineup, set for release in 2025, might include an upgrade to 12GB of RAM, potentially exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Kuo suggests that the iPhone 17 Pro, base iPhone 17, and the new iPhone 17 "Slim" will likely retain 8GB of RAM, consistent with the iPhone 16 series expectations. The fourth-generation iPhone SE, expected in early 2025, is also anticipated to have 8GB of RAM. Apple now considers 8GB of RAM the minimum required for the new Apple Intelligence features in iOS 18. As a result, only the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max support these features, while the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus, with just 6GB of RAM, do not. The iPhone 16 series will standardize 8GB of RAM across all models to ensure support for Apple Intelligence. For the iPhone 17 series, Kuo suggests that the iPhone 17 Pro Max might feature 12GB of RAM, which could offer enhanced AI capabilities, though this upgrade might be limited to the Pro Max model. Additionally, Kuo notes that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature a unique cooling system combining vapor chamber technology with graphite sheets, while other 2025 iPhone models will use graphite sheets alone for cooling. Kuo also highlights that the Pro Max models account for nearly 40% of iPhone sales, making them a significant driver of Apple's revenue and profit. This strategy of providing the highest specifications for the Pro Max is expected to continue due to its substantial financial impact.

iPhone 17 Pro Max to have more RAM and better cooling system than iPhone 17 Pro and other models - 9to5Mac
iPhone 16 season is just around the corner, but supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo already has his eyes on the iPhone 17 cycle. The researcher's latest details how the iPhone 17 Pro Max next fall will outperform the rest of the iPhone 17 lineup, including the iPhone 17 Pro, when next year's models debut. AI, of course, is the reason behind the extra punch behind the late 2025 Pro Max model. For starters, Kuo expects the iPhone 17 Pro Max in 2025 to pack 12GB of RAM. That compares to the 8GB of RAM in the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max. The iPhone 16 lineup is expected to have 8GB of RAM across the board. According to Kuo, the standard iPhone 17 Pro will not see the same RAM increase. Apple often throws new camera features at the Pro Max before bringing them to the Pro, but this would mark the first time RAM is a difference. More multitasking prowess means more heat generation. For that reason, Kuo believes Apple will introduce a new vapor chamber cooling system to the iPhone. This system, which will only be available on the iPhone 17 Pro Max in 2025, will work alongside the graphite sheet cooling technology used in iPhones today. Why target the Pro Max model for these changes and not the rest of the lineup? The Pro Max has its advantages with more internal space. Its premium price allows Apple to try more cutting edge technology before shrinking it down and putting it in more units. In this case, Apple will market the iPhone 17 Pro Max as the most capable iPhone for handling AI tasks as Apple Intelligence advances. Presumably, the iPhone 18 Pro will be targeted for the RAM jump and new cooling system in 2026, but Kuo doesn't make any predictions. However, Kuo does suggest that Pro Max models make up almost two out of five new iPhone models sold. This move would also give Apple an indirect strategy for monetizing its AI efforts. While Apple Intelligence may be freely available on compatible Apple devices, saving the best performance and capabilities for the most expensive hardware serves Apple's bottom line well. When Apple unveils the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models on September 9, we expect the smaller phone to feature the same 5x zoom that the iPhone 15 Pro Max introduced. As the smaller Pro catches up to the Pro Max each year, Apple will continue to find new ways to push the technology further in the larger and pricier device. And yes, Kuo also expects the ultra-thin version of the iPhone 17 to ship with 8GB of RAM like the 16 lineup and rumored SE 4. A true display of form over function.

Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max Could Feature 12GB RAM, Vapour Cooling: Analyst Kuo - MySmartPrice
It could be the most powerful generative AI device from Apple. Apple is gearing up to launch its iPhone 16 Series next week, but we already have plenty of reports about the next-gen iPhone 17 Series. Well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has reported some key details about the iPhone 17 Pro Max. The top-end iPhone model from 2025 could feature up to 12GB RAM. Here's what we know. On his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Ming-Chi Kuo has tipped that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be the only model from the 2025 iPhone lineup to feature 12GB RAM. Other iPhones will be limited to just 8GB RAM. He further mentions that Apple Intelligence features, with on-device generative AI, will be the key selling point for the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Kuo suggests that the top-end iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature a new vapour chamber cooling system in addition to the graphite sheets. However, other models will not get this new thermal management. If Kuo's reports are true, then the gap between the Pro and Pro Max iPhones could increase in the iPhone 17 Series. The tetra prism lens is the only significant differentiating factor between the two models, other than the obvious changes in screen size and battery capacity. Previously, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg also suggested that Apple could introduce a slimmer version of the iPhone in 2025. He mentions that Apple's decision to discontinue the iPhone mini in favour of the Plus variant has not been a success, as customers prefer the Pro model by paying a little extra. Hence, Apple could try a lighter and slimmer iPhone, similar to what they did with the original MacBook Air. Gurman mentions that this variant would be placed between the iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro, featuring superior performance and generative AI capabilities in a slimmer form factor. The iPhone 17 Series has a long way to go, and Apple is known to surprise the industry with its new launches. It will be interesting to see what changes the company brings with its next-gen iPhones. In related news, Apple has scheduled its iPhone 16 launch on September 9. The company is expected to introduce a revamped Siri with generative AI, or Apple Intelligence as it calls it. The iPhone lineup is expected to remain the same, with the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max.

iPhone 17 Pro Max Will Have 12GB of RAM
In 2025, Apple is set to continue its tradition of pushing the envelope with its new iPhone lineup and among these upcoming models, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is poised to stand out, not just for its larger display but for a host of exclusive features that set it apart from the rest of the pack. If you're someone who looks for the best of the best when it comes to smartphone technology, you'll be pleased to know that the iPhone 17 Pro Max is designed to cater to your needs with enhanced capabilities that aren't available in the other models. One of the most notable features of the iPhone 17 Pro Max is its 12GB of DRAM, which significantly boosts its performance compared to the other models in the 2025 lineup. While the ultra-thin iPhone, iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and SE4 models will all come equipped with 8GB of DRAM, the Pro Max takes a step further. This additional memory allows for smoother multitasking, quicker app launches, and an overall more responsive experience. Whether you're switching between multiple apps, editing high-resolution videos, or running demanding applications, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is built to handle it all with ease. This extra RAM also plays a critical role in enhancing on-device AI capabilities. As AI continues to be a major focus for Apple, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will likely leverage this extra memory to deliver more sophisticated machine learning tasks directly on the device. This could translate to more accurate predictive text, better photo and video recognition, and more personalized user experiences, all without the need to rely heavily on cloud processing. To complement its powerful hardware, the iPhone 17 Pro will feature an upgraded cooling system that combines vapor chamber (VC) technology with graphite sheets. This dual approach to thermal management is designed to keep the device running efficiently, even during intensive tasks such as gaming or 4K video recording. The inclusion of vapor chamber technology is a significant upgrade from the other models in the 2025 lineup, which will continue to use graphite sheets alone. The vapor chamber is more effective at dissipating heat, ensuring that the iPhone 17 Pro Max maintains optimal performance without overheating. If you've ever experienced your phone becoming uncomfortably warm during heavy usage, you will appreciate this advancement, which helps to maintain both performance and user comfort. The iPhone 17 Pro Max is more than just a smartphone; it represents a critical part of Apple's product strategy. Currently, the Pro Max models account for nearly 40% of new iPhone shipments, making them a significant contributor to Apple's revenue and profit. This model's popularity stems not only from its larger display but also from its top-tier specifications, which consistently outshine the rest of the lineup. Apple's strategy of differentiating the Pro models with superior hardware is expected to continue with the iPhone 17 series. By offering the best possible features, Apple ensures that the Pro Max remains the go-to choice for users who demand the highest level of performance and are willing to pay a premium for it. If you're considering upgrading to a new iPhone in 2025, the iPhone 17 Pro is likely to be the best choice if you value cutting-edge performance and enhanced features. With 12GB of RAM, an advanced cooling system, and top-tier AI capabilities, the Pro Max is designed for those who want the very best that Apple has to offer. While other models in the lineup are sure to deliver excellent performance, the iPhone 17 Pro Max stands out as the model that goes above and beyond. Whether you're a power user who needs that extra RAM for demanding tasks or simply someone who wants the assurance that their phone will handle anything they throw at it, the iPhone 17 Pro is engineered to meet those expectations.

iPhone 17 Pro Max to get exclusive 12GB RAM, vapor chamber cooling | AppleInsider
Renders of iPhone 16 Pro Max, which may be similar to iPhone 17 Pro Max It may be very few days until Apple unveils iPhone 16 to the world, but new rumors about iPhone 17 Pro Max suggest that the on-device Apple Intelligence will get a big boost with 12GB of RAM. Apple has heavily emphasized its commitment to Apple Intelligence as the near future of the iPhone, iPad, and Mac platforms. While the 2024 iPhone 16 series will focus on AI for all, it seems iPhone 17 will have a device built to push operating boundaries. According to a post on X from supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is looking to offer exclusive features for iPhone 17 Pro Max. Those include 12GB of RAM and vapor chamber cooling. The standard iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and the so-called iPhone 17 Slim would run on 8GB of RAM. While these models would have access to Apple Intelligence, only the iPhone 17 Pro Max gets boosted performance with on-device models. Vapor Chamber cooling would be additive to the already existing graphene sheets rumored for iPhone 16. Increased cooling means more efficient operations when the processor is being pushed. Kuo suggests that Apple's tendency to limit features for its flagship device is partially attributed to the demand for the model. If nearly 40% of new model shipments are Apple's most expensive model, then introducing new, compelling features can help drive customers to that tier. The analyst and rumor monger industry isn't a perfect one. Ming-Chi Kuo has had ups and downs in predicting the future of iPhone, but component orders for RAM and cooling systems fit right into the things he tends to get right. Kuo has also rumored that the iPhone 17 Pro Max could get a 48MP sensor for the 120 mm lens. If so, then all cameras on the rear of that device would have a 48MP or greater sensor in 2025. Apple is set to announce the iPhone 16 series during the "It's Glowtime" Apple Event on September 9, 2024. About one year later, Apple will be announcing the iPhone 17 lineup, so expect a ton of rumors to come and go in the meantime.

iPhone 17 Pro Max Expected to Feature 12GB RAM
The iPhone 17 series is expected to feature the kind of RAM that no other iPhone ever has. Apple is going to launch the iPhone 16 series on September 10, 2024. The Cupertino tech giant will then launch the iPhone 17 series next year during the same time frame. Today, we are not going to talk about the iPhone 16 series, instead, we will talk about the iPhone 17 series. Now, according to leaks online, the iPhone 17 series is expected to feature the kind of RAM that no other iPhone ever has. The iPhone 17 Pro Max to be specific, is expected to feature up to 12GB of RAM. Read More - iPhone 16 Series Camera Details Leaked Online While Apple doesn't disclose the RAM information to the users, it has been known to include lesser RAM than competitors. Apple has never included 12GB of RAM in an iPhone, and if it happens with the iPhone 17 Pro Max, it would be the first time. These rumours are happening online on social media platform X. Ming-Chi Kuo first shared this information, which said that Apple plans to integrate 12GB of RAM in the iPhone 17 Pro Max. This won't be the case with the iPhone 17 Pro. Read More - iPhone 16 Pro Devices Could get a New Desert Titanium Colour The reason Apple would go for the extra RAM in the Pro Max and not in the Pro is unfathomable. But it might be related to the overall AI experience. Apple said that Apple Intelligence would process most of the information on the device locally, thus, the extra RAM might be useful. But then that should also be the case for the iPhone 17 Pro. At present, the eyes of Apple fans is on September 10, 2024. The company has announced that it will hold a new event on the day. Many new products are expected during the event. It will be interesting if we will see a refresh to the Apple Watch Ultra.

iPhone 17 Pro Max to launch with 12GB RAM, vapour chamber for heat dissipation: Kuo
On-device AI features are also said to be a highlight of the iPhone 17 Pro Max. The iPhone 16 series launch is taking place on September 9th. It's only a week more until we see the new iPhones but talks about next year's lineup have surfaced online too. The iPhone 17 series will launch in 2025 but there's already some information about what to expect from these devices. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has now revealed new details about the iPhone 17 Pro Max, the most premium and expensive model in the series. Based on this leak, we can expect some exclusive treatment for the iPhone 17 Pro Max. There isn't anything else revealed about the Pro Max but there have been details leaked about the iPhone 17 lineup. Among the upgrades planned are a 24MP front camera and a six-piece lens on the iPhone 17 series. It isn't clear though if the entire iPhone 17 lineup will feature this camera or only select models. Kuo's latest details also add more to the speculation of a thin iPhone 17 model dubbed 'iPhone 17 Air' or 'iPhone 17 Slim'. It will replace the iPhone 17 Plus and as the name suggests, will come in a thin design and body. We should hear more details about the iPhone 17 lineup soon.

iPhone 17 Pro Max Slated To Feature Better Performance Than The Smaller 'Pro', As It Will Exclusively Offer 12GB Of RAM And Advanced Thermal Management
It was recently reported that the iPhone 17 lineup will be a better upgrade than the upcoming iPhone 16 models, and the reason is better Apple Intelligence support thanks to 12GB of RAM. A prominent analyst has now reported that the upgraded 12GB RAM will be exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro Max, while the remaining devices will retain the same 8GB RAM with a better cooling mechanism for thermal management. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo states that the 6.3-inch iPhone 17 Pro, the iPhone 17, and the iPhone 17 'Air' will come with 8GB of storage capacity, leaving 12GB for the most expensive iPhone 17 Pro Max. Based on past reports, the iPhone 17 Pro Max was reported to be the company's most premium model despite the fact that the company is testing a new ultra-thin design. This could also mean that the company has planned dedicated Apple Intelligence features for the iPhone 17 Pro Max, as the base amount of RAM required for the company's forthcoming AI features is 8GB. With more RAM, the iPhone could house additional, more advanced features that would not be offered with 8GB of RAM. In comparison, the iPhone SE 4, which is expected to launch in the first half of next year, is also rumored to come with 8GB of RAM. Other than the RAM, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will also be a step up from the smaller 'Pro' when it comes to better thermal management. The analyst claims that the device would feature an upgraded cooling system that combines the vapor chamber technology and the graphite sheets. This could result in better performance on the Pro Max as, even though the smaller 'Pro' would be equipped with the same A19 Pro chipsets. The rest of the bunch, including the 6.3-inch iPhone 17 Pro, will only feature graphite sheets, not the vapor chamber. This means that benchmarks between the two 'Pro' models will be different all thanks to better thermal management on the iPhone 17 Pro. The Pro Max variant of the iPhone accounts for almost 40 percent in sales and it contributes significantly in terms of Apple's total revenue. Even though the company plans to bridge the gap between the 'Pro' models with the same camera hardware upgrade, the performance of the device could be another strategy from the company's end to keep the highest model apart. Specifically, 12GB RAM on the iPhone 17 Pro Max would offer better multitasking capabilities, and it only makes us question if the company is bringing split-screen to iOS next year. Do you think a 4GB RAM difference between the iPhone 17 Pro Max and the rest of the lineup will create a wider performance difference?

Forget iPhone 16 Pro -- the iPhone 17 Pro just got tipped for a big RAM boost
Earlier this month Google released the Pixel 9 series, with a significant RAM boost -- jumping to 12GB on the Pixel 9 and 16GB on the Pro models. Google said this was done to help power on-device AI, and it had some people wondering whether Apple might do the same with iPhone 16. But apparently we won't start seeing this until at least next year. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that we won't be seeing any extra RAM until the launch of the iPhone 17 series in 2025. But, Kuo refuted previous rumors that all 4 iPhone 17s would get this upgrade -- instead claiming that it'll be exclusive to iPhone 17 Pro Max. This isn't necessarily bad news for the iPhone 16 series. While this suggests the Pro models won't be getting any extra memory, there have been rumors that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will be adding an extra 2GB of RAM this year -- for a total of 8GB. Apple itself confirmed that RAM constraints are what's stopping Apple Intelligence rolling out to non-Pro iPhone 15s. So a jump from 6GB to 8GB is going to be essential if Apple wants to add on-device AI features to every single iPhone 16. In fact Apple is said to be taking that rollout so seriously that it may even offer 8GB of RAM in the iPhone SE 4 when it launches (we hope) next year. It's a shame that we won't be seeing a RAM boost on the iPhone 16 Pro, but it's not exactly surprising. Apple has always been reluctant to stuff more RAM into the iPhone without solid reasoning. So if Apple Intelligence's current incarnation will work with 8GB of RAM, that's what we're getting. That's not to say that extra memory on future models couldn't be more beneficial, potentially offering more powerful AI features and/or future-proofing a device for what comes next. The interesting thing about Apple Intelligence is that the current slate of features don't seem to be restricted based on the device it's running on. Granted there are only two AI-compatible iPhones available right now, so that's hardly a scientific conclusion. But if Kuo is correct, and the 12GB RAM upgrade ends up being exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro Max, then we may start seeing more AI disparity -- with more expensive phones capable of doing better and more interesting things. Kuo also claims that the 17 Pro Max will feature a brand new cooling system that combines graphite sheets with vapor chamber technology. That should help prevent heat build-up, and may see the phone capable of safely performing better and more complicated tasks as a result. Which would explain the extra RAM to try and facilitate this. Sadly this enhanced cooling system design will apparently a Pro Max exclusive too, with the rest of the iPhone 17 reportedly relying on graphite sheets for cooling.
[10]
Kuo: Next Year's Upgrade to 12GB RAM Will Be Limited to iPhone 17 Pro Max
The amount of RAM in Apple's devices is currently of increased importance, as Apple has judged that 8GB is the minimum required for the Apple Intelligence features coming in iOS 18, which means only the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max of Apple's current phones will support them. The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus carry only 6GB of RAM. While a move to 8GB across the board starting with next month's iPhone 16 lineup will enable all new iPhones to support Apple Intelligence going forward, a further bump to 12GB would likely allow for even more powerful AI capabilities, but it now appears that may be limited to Apple's highest-end model in 2025. Aside from the increased 12GB of RAM, Kuo says the iPhone 17 Pro Max will also have an exclusive cooling system combining vapor chamber technology with graphite sheets. The other new iPhone models launching in 2025 will rely solely on graphite sheets for cooling.

Apple's iPhone 17 will come with a huge RAM upgrade, report claims
Apple's iPhone 16 is due to launch in two weeks, but we're already seeing rumors about its successor, the iPhone 17. On Wednesday, a Chinese leaker said that the iPhone 17 will be a huge upgrade compared to iPhone 16 when it comes to RAM. Apple's iPhone 16 models will come with 8GB of RAM, he said, but iPhone 17 will have 12GB of RAM, which will apparently make it more capable to handle advanced AI applications. Then, Apple sleuth Ming-Chi Kuo chimed in in a tweet. According to Kuo only the iPhone 17 Pro Max will come with 12GB RAM, with the other models still limited to 8GB RAM. "Enhanced on-device AI capabilities will likely be a major selling point for the iPhone 17 Pro Max," he wrote. Kuo also said that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will have an "upgraded cooling system combining vapor chamber (VC) technology and graphite sheets," while the other new iPhones launched in 2025 will use graphite sheets alone for thermal management. There's a lot of assumptions here: We don't even know how much RAM the iPhone 16 will have, as this device hasn't come out. We do know, however, that the iPhone 15 models come with 6GB of RAM, while both the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max have 8GB of RAM. Artificial intelligence (or Apple Intelligence, as Apple calls it) can be resource hungry, so it makes sense for Apple to beef up RAM for next year's models. This is not the first rumor we've heard about Apple's iPhone 17. Previous reports said that Apple is working on a "slim" iPhone 17 variant; we've also heard that the iPhone 17 will have an upgraded, 24-megapixel selfie camera, and that the rear camera will be relocated to the top center of the phone's back. It's fun to speculate about next year's iPhone, but for now we're far more interested in this year's iPhone 16. Apple is scheduled to launch new iPhones, along with new Watches and perhaps a few other devices, on Sept. 9.

The most expensive iPhone 17 could have a 'vapor chamber' and 12 GB of RAM - Softonic
Even though the iPhone 16 has not yet been released, we already have an idea of what the future iPhone 17 could include On September 9th, Apple will unveil its highly anticipated iPhone 16 to the world. However, that hasn't stopped new rumors about a hypothetical iPhone 17. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has already started talking about what Apple would be preparing for the launch of the iPhone 17 in 2025. Specifically, Kuo has revealed that the iPhone 17 Pro Max could have 12 GB of RAM due to Apple Intelligence and a vapor camera. We already know that Apple is going all in with Apple Intelligence. The future iPhone 16 is fully focused on Apple's AI and many of its innovations rely on this technology. With the upcoming iPhone 17, the company wants to offer exclusive features that we won't see in other devices. That's why we would have this increase in RAM and a vapor camera to cool the device and improve its performance. According to Kuo, these innovations would become a perfect attraction to attract more users to the iPhone 17 Pro Max. The analyst also points out that this model could include a 48-megapixel sensor for the 120mm lens. If it finally turns out to be true, all the rear lenses of this iPhone would incorporate a 48-megapixel sensor by 2025.

iPhone 17 Pro Max To Feature 12GB DRAM And Upgraded Cooling System, Says Prominent Apple Tipster: Souped-Up AI Capabilities Likely To Be A 'Major Selling Point' - Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL)
Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has disclosed major improvements for Apple Inc.'s AAPL iPhone 17 Pro Max, ahead of the much-awaited 2025 iPhone lineup. What Happened: Kuo of TF Securities revealed on X that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be equipped with 12GB DRAM, while other models like the ultra-thin iPhone, iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and SE4 will have 8GB. "Enhanced on-device AI capabilities will likely be a major selling point for the iPhone 17 Pro Max," wrote Kuo. Kuo also mentioned that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature an upgraded cooling system combining vapor chamber (VC) technology and graphite sheets. Other 2025 iPhone models will continue to use only graphite sheets for thermal management. The Pro Max currently represents nearly 40% of new model shipments, significantly contributing to Apple Inc. 's revenue and profit among hardware products. The strategy of offering the best specifications for the Pro Max, beyond just a larger display, is expected to persist, according to Kuo. See Also: Former Tesla Autopilot Head And Ex-OpenAI Researcher Says 'Programming Is Changing So Fast' That He Cannot Think Of Going Back To Coding Without AI Why It Matters: The speculations of the iPhone 17 Pro Max's advanced features comes on the heels of Apple's strategic moves to innovate and capture market share. The upcoming iPhone 17 "Air," expected to launch in 2025, is rumored to have a sleeker design, potentially driving significant customer upgrades. Gene Munster, managing partner at Deepwater Asset Management, highlighted that Apple's biggest upgrade cycles have historically coincided with noticeable design changes. Moreover, the launch of the AI-enabled iPhone 16 series is anticipated to kickstart a "historical period" for Apple, according to Wedbush analyst Dan Ives. He emphasized that the iPhone 16's AI capabilities could set in motion Apple's biggest upgrade cycle in history, potentially pushing the company's valuation past $4 trillion. Additionally, Kuo predicted in October that the iPhone 17 may incorporate Resin Coated Copper (RCC) technology for its mainboard. This innovation could offer enhanced internal space and cost-saving benefits, potentially eliminating the need for bulky power banks. The iPhone 17 Pro Max could get exclusive upgrades that might make it an iPhone Ultra
Some years Apple heavily differentiates its Pro Max models from the Pro models, and other years they're quite similar. For example, leaks suggest that this year the iPhone 16 Pro Max won't be dramatically different to the iPhone 16 Pro, but we're now hearing that next year's iPhone 17 Pro Max could be significantly better than the iPhone 17 Pro. This is according to Ming-Chi Kuo - a leaker with a great track record for Apple information - who, posting on X, has claimed that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be the only iPhone 17 model to get 12GB of RAM, with all the others stuck at 8GB. We're expecting every iPhone 16 model to have 8GB of RAM, as that seems to be the minimum required for Apple Intelligence (Apple's upcoming AI features), so this would mean that only the iPhone 17 Pro Max gets a RAM boost next year. And, speaking of AI, the same source claims that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will exclusively have "enhanced on-device AI capabilities", presumably enabled by all that extra RAM. Finally, Kuo also claims that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will have an upgraded cooling system, which combines vapor chamber technology and graphite sheets, while the rest of the iPhone 17 line will reportedly just use graphite sheets, like current models. So in other words the iPhone 17 Pro Max should be more adept at keeping cool, which should help with sustained performance when carrying out demanding tasks, such as running high-end games and using on-device AI. All of these upgrades combined could make the iPhone 17 Pro Max something along the lines of the long-rumored iPhone Ultra, though there's no current suggestion that it will have 'Ultra' in its name. In any case, Kuo notes that Pro Max models currently account for almost 40% of iPhone shipments, meaning they're by far the most popular models, so it makes sense for Apple to focus on improving the Pro Max. That might mean the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro feel a bit neglected and lacking in upgrades, although there is at least also talk of an iPhone 17 Slim or an iPhone 17 Air, which could provide something a bit different and new for anyone who doesn't want to shell out on the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Apple's upcoming iPhone 17 Pro Max is expected to boast 12GB of RAM and an improved vapor chamber cooling system, setting it apart from other models in the lineup.
Apple's upcoming iPhone 17 Pro Max is rumored to receive significant upgrades, potentially widening the gap between it and other models in the lineup. According to recent reports from industry insiders and analysts, the device is expected to feature increased RAM and an advanced cooling system.
One of the most notable improvements is the alleged increase in RAM to 12GB for the iPhone 17 Pro Max. This information comes from the respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a track record of accurate predictions about Apple products 1. If true, this would mark a significant upgrade from the current generation of iPhones, which typically feature 6GB or 8GB of RAM.
The increase in RAM could potentially enhance the device's multitasking capabilities, allowing for smoother performance when running multiple apps simultaneously or handling resource-intensive tasks.
Another key upgrade rumored for the iPhone 17 Pro Max is an improved vapor chamber cooling system 2. This technology is designed to more efficiently dissipate heat generated by the device's components, potentially leading to better sustained performance and longer battery life.
The vapor chamber cooling system is expected to be exclusive to the Pro Max model, further differentiating it from other iPhones in the lineup 5.
The combination of increased RAM and improved cooling could have significant implications for the iPhone 17 Pro Max's performance. With more memory and better heat management, the device may be better equipped to handle demanding tasks such as gaming, video editing, and augmented reality applications.
These rumored upgrades suggest that Apple may be positioning the iPhone 17 Pro Max as a more premium offering within its smartphone lineup. By reserving certain high-end features for the Pro Max model, Apple could be creating a clearer distinction between its various iPhone tiers 3.
While these rumors are exciting for Apple enthusiasts, it's important to note that the iPhone 17 series is not expected to launch until late 2025 4. As with all rumors and leaks, the information should be taken with a grain of salt, as Apple's plans may change during the development process.
The rumored upgrades for the iPhone 17 Pro Max align with broader industry trends towards more powerful and efficient mobile devices. As smartphones continue to take on more complex tasks, manufacturers are constantly seeking ways to improve performance and user experience.
