MeitY Startup Hub and Startup Policy Forum Forge Strategic Partnership

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) Startup Hub (MSH) and the Startup Policy Forum (SPF) have announced a groundbreaking partnership aimed at propelling India's startup ecosystem into the forefront of technological innovation. This collaboration focuses on fostering growth in deeptech, artificial intelligence (AI), and emerging technologies across the country's burgeoning startup landscape 12.

Objectives of the Collaboration

The partnership between MSH and SPF is set to engage in several key initiatives:

  1. Joint Research and Development: Combining resources to drive innovation in cutting-edge technologies.
  2. Policy Shaping: Working together to create progressive regulatory and policy frameworks that support startup growth.
  3. Knowledge Exchange: Facilitating the sharing of expertise between government, industry, and startups 1.

Panneerselvam Madanagopal, CEO of MeitY Startup Hub, emphasized the significance of this alliance, stating, "This partnership with the Startup Policy Forum aligns policy, innovation, and entrepreneurship to unlock that potential. By uniting diverse expertise across sectors, we aim to create new economic opportunities and establish India as a global technology leader" 2.

SPF's Role and Partnerships

Founded by Shweta Rajpal Kohli in December 2024, the Startup Policy Forum is playing a crucial role in fostering collaboration between founders, policymakers, and regulators. SPF's membership includes prominent startups and unicorns such as CRED, Groww, Zerodha, Pine Labs, OYO, Acko, Swiggy, and Dream11, among others 12.

The forum has also established partnerships with key government bodies and institutions:

  • Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT)
  • IIT-Madras's Centre for Research on Start-Ups and Risk Financing (CREST) 1

These collaborations aim to support research, drive policy initiatives, and facilitate knowledge exchange within the startup ecosystem.

Government Initiatives and Support

The Indian government has been actively supporting the growth of the deeptech sector:

  1. Exploration of a Fund of Funds (FoF) for deeptech startups, as announced in the FY26 budget speech by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
  2. Allocation of INR 20,000 Cr to boost research and innovation 2.

Impact on India's Startup Ecosystem

With over 1.61 Lakh startups registered in India as of January 31, 2025, according to DPIIT data, this partnership is poised to have a significant impact on the ecosystem 2. The collaboration between MSH and SPF is expected to:

  1. Accelerate innovation in AI and deeptech sectors
  2. Provide startups with better access to government support and industry expertise
  3. Shape policies that create a more conducive environment for startup growth and innovation

Shweta Rajpal Kohli, President and CEO of SPF, highlighted the importance of this initiative, saying, "This collaboration is about bringing the best of government support, industry experience, and startup energy together to build that future" 1.

As India continues to position itself as a global technology leader, partnerships like these are crucial in driving innovation, fostering economic growth, and creating new opportunities in the rapidly evolving tech landscape.
