"Excited to expand access to Meta AI with our rollout in 21 new countries globally, starting today with the UK and Brazil, as well as new countries in Latin America and Asia," Ahmad AI-Dahle, VP of GenAI at Meta, shared on LinkedIn. You Can Now Use Meta AI in the UK and Five More Countries
AI chatbot was also rolled out to Ray-Ban Meta in the UK and Australia Meta announced the expansion of Meta AI, the company's in-house artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, to six new countries on Wednesday. The UK has been included in the list of countries which are getting access to the AI chatbot now. The social media giant also highlighted that the AI platform will be expanded to 15 more countries soon, taking the number of total supported countries to 43. Apart from introducing Meta AI within its social media apps, the company also added voice-based AI capabilities to the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in the UK and Australia. Adding an update to its July post, where Meta AI was first expanded to new regions including India, the social media giant stated that the AI chatbot has been rolled out to six new countries -- Brazil, Bolivia, Guatemala, Paraguay, Philippines, and the UK. Additionally, support for the Tagalog language which is spoken in the Philippines was also added. To use the AI assistant, users in these countries can simply update Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp and they should see the new Meta AI icon. Additionally, the company also added that the chatbot will be expanded to 15 more countries soon including Algeria, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Malaysia, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Thailand, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, and Yemen. It is believed that Meta AI will be rolled out to these locales before the end of the ongoing year. The AI will also be updated to support Arabic, Indonesian, Thai, and Vietnamese languages. The UK and Australia are also getting Meta AI capabilities on the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses with the current rollout. However, the company has restricted the AI assistant to voice-only features. That means the recently announced computer vision-based features will not be available to users in those countries.

Meta AI Expands Globally: Now in the UK and Five More Countries Across Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp
The chatbot, accessible via Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, will soon be rolled out to 15 more regions, taking the total number of supported countries to 43 Meta announced the expansion of its AI chatbot, Meta AI, to six new countries, further extending its global reach. The UK, Brazil, Bolivia, Guatemala, Paraguay and the Philippines are now among the regions that can access Meta's in-house artificial intelligence assistant on its social media platforms. This latest rollout is part of Meta's broader strategy to enhance its AI offerings and engage a more diverse audience. With Meta AI now available in these six new locations, users in these countries can access the AI chatbot directly through Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp by simply updating their apps. This expansion follows Meta's previous July announcement, where it had rolled out the AI assistant to new regions such as India.

Meta expands its AI features to 21 additional countries
Meta on Wednesday announced that it is expanding its AI features to 21 additional countries. Meta AI includes a chatbot that can be used for conversations or searches, as well a Studio to generate images based on text inputs. In a press release, Meta confirmed that its AI is now being rolled out to users in 21 additional countries, including Brazil, Bolivia, Guatemala, Paraguay, Philippines, and the United Kingdom. The list also includes many other countries in Latin America and Asia. In the coming weeks, Meta's artificial intelligence will also be available in the Middle East. "Following this gradual rollout, Meta AI will be available in 43 countries and a dozen languages. That means more people than ever will be able to use Meta AI to dive deep on topics that spark their interest, get helpful how-tos and find inspiration for art projects, home decor, OOTDs and more," says the company. On a related note, Meta AI will also become available on Ray-Ban smart glasses for users in the UK and Australia with today's rollout. According to the company, its AI is "on track" to become the most used assistant in the world with almost 500 million active users every month. Meta AI can be accessed independently via a web browser or also through the company's apps, including Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram. Users can use the chatbot to ask for things like recommendations of places to visit or even to generate images. The AI also lets users find out more details about a specific post they see in their feed. On the other hand, Meta continues to withhold the launch of its latest AI model in EU countries. Similar to Apple, the company fears that local regulations in Europe will force them to implement unwanted changes. Apple, for instance, has said that it has no plans to launch Apple Intelligence in the EU any time soon.

Meta AI will launch in six more countries today, including the UK
Meta AI is beginning a big international rollout. The AI assistant will arrive today in Brazil, Bolivia, Guatemala, Paraguay, Philippines and the UK. It is also slated to debut in Algeria, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Malaysia, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Thailand, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam and Yemen over the coming weeks, although the company did not offer specific dates for those countries. This expansion is also adding new language support to Meta AI. Starting today, it is getting support for Tagalog, while Arabic, Indonesian, Thai and Vietnamese will join the assistant "soon." Customers can use the Meta AI assistant on the web or within the company's social media apps: Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger. The final element of today's announcement is that Meta AI will be launched on Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in the UK and in Australia. The UK launch will only include voice support for now; Meta did not provide a timeline for when UK customers might get the full multimodal capabilities on the glasses. The EU is a notable absence in this expansion. Meta said this summer that it would not introduce multimodal AI services in the EU due to concerns over regulation in the bloc. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been public with critiques of how European regulators are handling the proliferation of artificial intelligence.

Meta Expands AI Chatbot to UK, Brazil in Further Push for Growth
(Bloomberg) -- Meta Platforms Inc. is expanding its AI-powered chatbot to 21 new locations, including the UK and Brazil, where the social media giant has significant numbers of users, the company announced Wednesday. Meta AI, the company's chatbot, lets users converse and get recommendations on its Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger apps. It's also available as a voice assistant in the social media giant's smart glasses and mixed reality headsets. Almost 500 million people use Meta AI each month, Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg said last month. Meta AI will be available beginning Wednesday in the UK, Brazil and additional countries in Latin America and Asia, the company announced in a statement. Along with the expansion, the chatbot will also add support for new languages, including Tagalog on Wednesday and Arabic and Thai in the near future. Eventually, Meta AI will be available in 43 countries and a dozen languages, the company said. Zuckerberg has focused the company since last year on adding artificial intelligence to its products, a strategy that is credited for some recent user growth and advertising success. The emphasis on AI, which requires spending huge amounts of money in computing power, is a pivot away from the company's earlier attention on the metaverse, a virtual world for work and play. The shift has appealed to investors, who have driven the shares up 67% this year compared with a 20% jump in the S&P 500. Meta earlier this year had also planned to launch its AI chatbot in the EU, before facing regulatory pushback. The company's large language model, called Llama, is trained in part using public posts on Facebook and Instagram. In June, Meta announced plans to start training Llama on posts from European users, but just days later said it would pause those plans indefinitely after the Irish Data Protection Commission pushed back on its decision. At the time Meta said it still planned to bring the product to Europe, but declined to share a timeline. A Meta spokesperson said the company didn't have anything further to share about its plans to expand the chatbot to the EU. Meta's products have faced regulatory challenges in the EU over the company's handling of personal data. In July, the EU warned Meta that it risked fines for making Europeans pay to block their data on Instagram and Facebook from being used for ads. Last week, the EU's Court of Justice ordered Meta to stop using data related to a person's sexuality for ad targeting. Along with the expansion of Meta AI across its apps, the chatbot will also be available on the Ray-Ban Meta glasses in the UK and Australia.

Meta AI launches in six countries including Brazil and UK | TechCrunch
Meta is bringing its AI chatbot Meta AI to six countries today, including Brazil, the U.K., the Philippines, Bolivia, Guatemala, and Paraguay, Mark Zuckerberg said today in an announcement on his WhatsApp channel. The company said that apart from these countries, the company plans to release Meta AI in more countries in a gradual rollout, including the Middle East. After this rollout, Meta AI will be available in 43 countries and more than a dozen languages. The upcoming roll-out includes regions such as Algeria, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Malaysia, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Thailand, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, and Yemen. Meta AI will also start supporting Arabic, Indonesian, Thai, and Vietnamese languages by the end of this release cycle. The AI assistant is available on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger apps, and on the Meta.ai website. During last month's Meta Connect event, Zuckerberg mentioned that Meta AI now has "nearly" 500 million users across the world. He added that the chatbot is on track to become the most used assistant in the world by the end of the year. Meta's CFO, Susan Li, said during the Q2 2024 call that India is Meta AI's biggest market, largely due to WhatsApp, which has more than 500 million users in the country.

Meta Expands its AI Reach to More Countries - Phandroid
Facebook parent company Meta recently announced that Meta AI will arrive for more countries starting today - users in Brazil, Bolivia, Guatemala, Paraguay, Philippines as well as the United Kingdom will have access to Meta's own AI assistant, with a planned rollout to more countries in the following weeks. This also means that the company is adding support for more languages including Tagalog, with other languages such as Arabic, Indonesian, Thai and Vietnamese to arrive at a later date. Users can access the AI assistant via the web or though Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. In addition to this, Meta says that users in other countries including Algeria, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Malaysia, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Thailand, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam and Yemen will soon be able to access the AI assistant as well, although it did not disclose a specific timeline. Meta AI will also rollout for Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in the UK and in Australia, albeit with limited voice support for the UK. There's no word yet on when Meta AI will reach users in the EU, as the company continues to work around EU regulations.

Meta AI can imagine anything...except operating in the EU
Meta AI is traveling internationally, starting with Brazil, Bolivia, Guatemala, Paraguay, the Philippines, and the UK this week. Over the next few weeks, the tech giant's AI assistant will eventually debut in 21 countries across Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. Notable in its absence is any continental European country as Meta wrangles with the European Union (EU) over regulatory demands. Meta hasn't set a date for releasing Meta AI in the countries beyond the initial list. Still, fairly soon, people in Algeria, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Malaysia, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Thailand, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, and Yemen will also be able to ask Meta AI their questions. They'll also be able to create images and even put their face in the results using the "Imagine Me" feature for creating a digital avatar based on uploaded photos that can then be incorporated into an image created from a text prompt. Those images can then be edited by follow-up prompts. The wider geographic access to Meta AI will include linguistic expansion. That means the new international users won't be limited to communicating with the AI assistant in English. The first new language on the list is Tagalog, which is spoken by many in the Philippines. Arabic, Indonesian, Thai, and Vietnamese are next on Meta AI's roadmap, appropriate for the countries gaining access to the AI assistant, which are also places with many people who regularly use Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and other Meta platforms. Those same people will presumably form a core of Meta AI early adopters. "Following this gradual rollout, Meta AI will be available in 43 countries and a dozen languages. That means more people than ever will be able to use Meta AI to dive deep on topics that spark their interest, get helpful how-tos and find inspiration for art projects, home decor, OOTDs and more," Meta boasted in a blog post. "In fact, Meta AI is already on track to become the most used AI assistant in the world by the end of the year with almost 500 million active users monthly." Meta's products are also popular in the EU, but the lack of EU expansion plans isn't surprising. Meta has already said it won't bring new AI tools, especially image- and video-related ones because it is leery of violating new regulations and compliance demands that it feels are unfair. The biggest issue raised by European lawmakers surrounds ethical data use and privacy. The recently adopted rules are designed to slow the launch of AI technology that doesn't address those potential problems. Meta AI's current form might transgress some of the new rules. In response, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has suggested that these regulations limit innovation and hurt citizens. For now, Meta has chosen to skip the EU in favor of other markets for its AI products. Meta AI is also expanding in another direction this week, debuting on the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in more regions, which are now available in the UK and Australia. Though Australians will have the full range of features, the UK is only getting voice support for now. The wearable tech integration with Meta AI is part of the company's push to embed its AI in everything it produces. Meta didn't say why the UK isn't getting the augmented reality overlay or image recognition features immediately. Presumably, there are technical issues, regulatory hurdles, or both that need to be overcome.

Meta Expanding AI Chatbot to Brazil and UK | PYMNTS.com
Meta is bringing its AI chatbot to Brazil, the U.K. and four other new countries. Aside from Bolivia, Guatemala, Paraguay and the Philippines, the social media giant plans to add the artificial intelligence (AI) tool to more countries more gradually, TechCrunch reported Wednesday (Oct. 7), citing an announcement from Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's WhatsApp. That future expansion includes the nations of Algeria, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Malaysia, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Thailand, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam and Yemen, the report said. Meta AI will also begin supporting some new languages, including Arabic, Indonesian, Thai, and Vietnamese by the end of this release cycle, per the report. The news comes days after Meta debuted generative AI research showing how text inputs can be employed to create custom videos and sounds and edit existing videos. Dubbed "Meta Movie Gen," this AI model builds upon the company's earlier generative AI models Make-A-Scene and Llama Image, combining the modalities of those earlier generation models and enables further fine-grained control. And last month, the company introduced an upgrade to its AI voice features to include celebrity voices such as Judi Dench and John Cena. Experts say innovations such as these promise more natural and personalized interactions, marking a change in the eCommerce arena. "This isn't just about convenience -- it's about creating real, human connections between brands and customers," Valentin Radu, founder of Omniconvert, told PYMNTS. Research by PYMNTS Intelligence finds that almost half of all American consumers expect voice assistants to match human intelligence and reliability within five years, with many saying they'd be willing to pay for such services. While Meta's AI assistants now use celebrity voices -- a switch expected to boost engagement by making interactions more relatable and fun -- the bigger update involves the ability to process visual information, such as user-uploaded photos. This feature opens new avenues for social commerce, letting users upload an image of a product and receive instant, AI-driven recommendations or purchase options. Radu sees this shift as a logical next step. "AI voice features provide a seamless, personal experience," he said, adding that the technology offers a more intuitive shopping experience by providing immediate, tailored responses, reducing friction for the consumer. "Introducing celebrity voices isn't just for entertainment -- it adds a human touch to the interaction, making digital assistants feel more personable," PYMNTS wrote. "The shift could lead to higher conversion rates and more meaningful brand-customer relationships."

Meta launches its AI chatbot in the UK on Facebook and Instagram
The assistant, which has sparked privacy concerns, can also be accessed on £299 Ray-Ban Meta sunglasses The owner of Facebook and Instagram, Meta, has launched its artificial intelligence assistant in the UK, alongside AI-boosted sunglasses modelled by Mark Zuckerberg. Meta's AI assistant, which can generate text and images, is now available on its social media platforms in the UK and Brazil, having already been launched in the US and Australia. Regulatory issues and product testing held up the UK launch, while Meta's AI services remain unavailable in the EU due to the "unpredictable" regulatory environment. Facebook and Instagram users in the UK will now be able to access the Meta AI chatbot by tapping on an icon in their app or by buying a pair of £299 Ray-Ban Meta frames from a UK retailer and accessing its voice assistant. Zuckerberg, Meta's co-founder, sported a pair of the Ray-Bans at a company event last month when he also announced that Meta AI would be able to respond to voice commands and use the voice of celebrities including Judi Dench, John Cena and Keegan-Michael Key. However, the celebrity voice assistant will not be available in the UK. Meta said the latest rollout, which also includes the Phillippines, "will help people get answers to their questions, brainstorm content and bring their ideas to life in places where they can easily share the results with their local network and our broader global community". Meta's AI products, powered by the company's Llama 3.2 AI model, have been the focus of attempts by social media users to block the company from using their posts to train its AI tools. One viral post with the message "Goodbye Meta AI!" was shared by actors and sports stars - including James McAvoy and Tom Brady -before it emerged that the post gave no privacy or copyright protection. Instead, UK users who wish to stop Meta from using their Facebook and Instagram posts to train its AI models need to fill out an objection form that can be obtained in their apps' privacy settings. However, users of Meta's AI products cannot block their interactions with the AI tools - as opposed to their actual social media posts - from being used to train and finetune the Llama model. Last week Meta said it had built a new artificial intelligence model called Movie Gen that can create realistic video and audio clips in response to user prompts - including a surfing koala. However, like OpenAI's Sora video model, Movie Gen is not yet publicly available.

Meta Platforms announces a significant expansion of its AI chatbot, Meta AI, to 21 new countries across Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East, including the UK and Brazil. The expansion includes new language support and integration with Ray-Ban Meta glasses in select markets.
Meta Platforms has announced a significant expansion of its artificial intelligence chatbot, Meta AI, to 21 new countries. This move is part of the company's strategy to compete with other AI chatbots like OpenAI's ChatGPT and to broaden its global reach 12. The expansion began on Wednesday with the rollout in six countries: the UK, Brazil, Bolivia, Guatemala, Paraguay, and the Philippines 3.
Meta AI will soon be available in an additional 15 countries across Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East. These include Algeria, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Malaysia, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Thailand, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, and Yemen 1. The expansion also introduces support for new languages, including Arabic, Indonesian, Thai, Vietnamese, and Tagalog 24.
The AI assistant is accessible through various Meta platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and the dedicated Meta.ai website 1. Users in the newly supported countries can access Meta AI by simply updating their apps 3. This integration allows users to engage with the AI for various purposes, such as diving deep into topics of interest, getting how-to information, and finding inspiration for creative projects 4.
As part of this expansion, Meta AI will also be integrated with Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in the UK and Australia 15. However, the AI capabilities on these glasses will be limited to voice-only features, excluding the recently announced computer vision-based functionalities 2.
Meta AI currently boasts nearly 500 million monthly active users 5. Following this gradual rollout, the chatbot will be available in 43 countries and support a dozen languages 4. Meta is confident that this expansion puts them on track to make Meta AI the most used AI assistant in the world by the end of 2024 1.
While this expansion is significant, it's worth noting that some features are still in development. The new character voices for the AI chatbot, announced by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg at the company's annual Connect conference, are being rolled out on a separate timeline 5. This indicates that Meta continues to enhance and refine its AI offerings even as it expands its global reach.
This expansion represents a significant move in the competitive AI assistant market. By making Meta AI available to a broader, more diverse audience, Meta is positioning itself as a major player in the global AI race 3. The company's strategy of integrating AI across its popular social media platforms could give it a unique advantage in user adoption and engagement.
It's noteworthy that Meta, like some other tech giants, is cautious about launching its latest AI models in EU countries due to regulatory concerns. This approach mirrors that of companies like Apple, which has delayed the launch of its AI features in the EU due to potential conflicts with local regulations 4.
