Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been named in a lawsuit filed by Paris Olympics boxing gold medallist Imane Khelif. The Algerian athlete filed the lawsuit in Paris against what she describes as "aggravated cyber harassment" after controversy on her gender eligibility. What was the controversy A debate sparked on social media when Italian boxer Angela Carini abruptly withdrew from her bout against Khelif during a women's boxing match at Paris Olympics 2024.Carini's decision came after enduring a flurry of punches. In a video shared on social media, Carini can be seen sobbing and declining to shake hands with her opponent following the match, intensifying the tension surrounding the incident. A report by American magazine Variety quotes Nabil Boudi, the Paris-based attorney of Khelif, who said "J. K. Rowling and Elon Musk are named in the lawsuit, among others," he said, adding that Donald Trump will also be part of the investigation. "Trump tweeted, so whether or not he is named in our lawsuit, he will inevitably be looked into as part of the prosecution," he stated. What Elon Musk said While Elon Musk directly did not post anything on the issue, he shared an X post by American swimmer Riley Gaines who said "Men don't belong in women's sports #IStandWithAngelaCarini." "Absolutely", he wrote, retweeting the post. Harry Potter author JK Rowling shared an image from the match. In the post, she wrote "Could any picture sum up our new men's rights movement better? The smirk of a male who's knows he's protected by a misogynist sporting establishment enjoying the distress of a woman he's just punched in the head, and whose life's ambition he's just shattered. #Paris2024". In another post, she said "Watch this (whole thread), then explain why you're OK with a man beating a woman in public for your entertainment. This isn't sport. From the bullying cheat in red all the way up to the organisers who allowed this to happen, this is men revelling in their power over women,". What happens next Boudi said that while the lawsuit was filed in France, "it could target personalities overseas,". "What we're asking is that the prosecution investigates not only these people but whoever it feels necessary. If the case goes to court, they will stand trial," he added.
