OnePlus officially launches OnePlus 13
OnePlus has officially unveiled the OnePlus 13 today. OnePlus' newest flagship phone comes alongside an as of yet undisclosed model that sits below the OnePlus 13 in their line-up. I already had an opportunity to try out the new OnePlus 13 in November, during the phone's European preview event in the Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam. Highlights of the new phone presented at the event include improvements in the camera department, such as AI enhancement of images on all three of the phone's sensors. Also, the OnePlus 13's battery receives a boost from OnePlus 12's 5,400 mAh to 6,000 mAh, an improved IP-rating and a new energy-efficient chip: the Snapdragon 8 Elite. The phone is also the first one ever to receive Displaymate's A++ rating, who commented that the screen comes with an "excellent top tier world class smartphone display with close to text book perfect calibration accuracy". At the event, I was able to try out some of the new camera features on the OnePlus 13. Firstly, there's a newly added AI Reflection Eraser tool that removes reflections, which requires connection to the cloud. I tried out the mode when shooting photos of a couple of OnePlus products inside a display case. The mode manages to subtly but clearly remove most of the reflections, leading to a sharper image and enhancing otherwise mostly unusable images. Another novel feature for the cameras is optimisation of burst shooting, which OnePlus calls Clear Burst. There were several opportunities to try out the improvements. There were two breakdancers at the event showing off some impressive moves. I took several images of them while holding down the shutter button, which automatically activates the burst mode. Using the main camera, this resulted in a succession of sharp images, while the 3x zoom camera struggled more. I also took pictures of the spinning rear wheel of a racing bike, leading to some sharp shots despite lots of movement. Also improved according to OnePlus are the portrait modes on the camera. The three camera sensors at the back of the phone are all tweaked to mimic different Hasselblad cameras with distinctive portrait looks. I did some test shooting with these as well, including the selfie camera. Lastly, the camera showed off an impressive zoom past 10x using AI enhancement. I even tried out zooming in 120x onto pictures put up on the ceiling to test the feature. Here the results were quite impressive up to a point, with details filled in by AI making zoomed images much more clear. However, at the top 120x zoom, AI was mostly guessing the details and images became very distorted. I took a OnePlus 13 sample home with me after the event, and you can see my full thoughts on the device in our OnePlus 13 review.

The company announced the global release of the OnePlus 13 and OnePlus 13R at CES on Tuesday. The phones, which have been on sale in China since October, come with improved processors, AI enhancements, and a large, 6,000mAh battery. OnePlus offers Android phones with many top-of-the-line specs at a price that undercuts offerings from larger companies like Samsung and Google. The latest OnePlus phones are competitive when compared with Samsung's S24 and Google's Pixel Pro 9 lineup, though it remains to be seen how they will hold up to Samsung's new S25 phones when they are announced at Samsung's Unpacked event on Jan. 22. OnePlus 13 The OnePlus 13 runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Mobile Platform and comes with up to 16GB of RAM, depending on the configuration. Its two 3,000mAh battery cells combine for a 6,000mAh battery that lasted over 24 hours in our testing. The display is similar to last year's model and features a 6.82-inch ProXDR LTPO 4.1 with a resolution of 3,168 by 1,440 pixels and a variable refresh rate of 1-120Hz. The phone is now also fully waterproof and can even withstand jets of hot water with its new IP68 and IP69 ratings. The Hasselblad cameras on the OnePlus 13 include a 50MP Sony LYT-808 main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, and a 50MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. Like most phones, the OnePlus 13 now comes with AI editing capabilities. AI Unblur lets you sharpen a blurry photo, AI Detail Boost adds 4K detail to your photos, and AI Reflection Eraser lets you eliminate reflections from windows. You can also use the Magic Eraser to remove unwanted people or objects. OnePlus includes its proprietary 80W SuperVOOC charging adapter in the box, which fully charges the phone in under an hour. The phone can also be charged wirelessly at 50W using the company's $79.99 AIRVOOC 50W Magnetic Charger. The phone is available in Midnight Ocean, Arctic Dawn, or Black Eclipse colorways and in two configurations: 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage for $899.99 or 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage for $999.99. It is available now at OnePlus.com and at Best Buy. For more, check out our full review of the OnePlus 13. OnePlus 13R The OnePlus 13R is less powerful than the OnePlus 13, but shares many of its features. The phone runs on the older Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile SoC, comes with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and features the same 6,000mAh battery found in the OnePlus 13. It has a smaller, 6.78-inch 1.5K ProXDR display with a resolution of 2,780 by 1,264 pixels and a variable refresh rate between 60-120Hz. The cameras lack the Hasselblad branding, but still sports a 50MP main lens with a Sony LYT-700 sensor and optical image stabilization. There's also a 50MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom, along with an 8MP ultra-wide shooter for your widest snaps. The OnePlus 13R is protected from drops and scrapes by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i and has an IP65 rating for protection against dust and rain. Unlike the OnePlus 13, however, it is not fully waterproof. It comes in a black Nebula Noir or a silver Astral Trail and costs $599.99. It's available for preorder now at OnePlus.com and will be released on Jan. 14.
