Polestar's future cars are getting a game-changing AI upgrade

The AI revolution isn't just happening on your phone or laptop -- our cars are getting in on the action too. Polestar just revealed it's bringing Google Gemini to all its fully electric vehicles, from the classic Polestar 2 to the futuristic Polestar 5. Starting early next year, an over-the-air update will let every EV tap into the AI-powered voice assistant right from the infotainment system. Instead of building its own software, Polestar leans on Google Maps (with Live Lane Guidance), the Play Store, and various streaming apps -- all integrated neatly into the car's touchscreen. Next year, all Polestar cars with Google built-in will get an over-the-air update swapping Google Assistant for the smarter, AI-powered Gemini chatbot, following Volvo's lead from earlier this year. For everyday tasks, Gemini works a lot like Google Assistant, handling voice commands for weather, simple questions, and climate or audio controls. The big difference is that Gemini taps into Google's generative AI with Gemini Live, letting drivers have real-time back-and-forth conversations, brainstorm ideas, ask follow-up questions, and even learn on the go. Polestar Teams Up with Google to Bring Gemini to All of its Car Models - Phandroid

With AI now having been made available on nearly every compatible device and appliance on the planet, it's not exactly uncommon to see its integration with electric cars. That in mind, Polestar recently announced that it plans to bring over Google Gemini via a future update to all of its models, beginning with the Polestar 2. Gemini will replace the current Google Assistant and will give users access to generative AI as well as more natural and conversational interaction with the vehicle. Beyond simple commands, users will be able to engage the new Gemini Live feature with a simple "Hey Google, let's talk" prompt. Gemini brings the next generation of AI voice interaction into the car, and we're excited to give a first look at how it will enhance the driving experience. Polestar and Google will host a guided demonstration of Gemini inside the Polestar 5 at Slush, which takes place in Helsinki, Finland, on November 19-20, 2025.
