Samsung Just Announced a 3D Gaming Monitor... in 2025 - IGN
CES 2025 is an event that's always filled to the brim with exciting new products that'll be coming out for the next year, but Samsung is upping the ante by announcing a 3D gaming monitor. The Samsung Odyssey 3D G90XF is a 27" gaming monitor that uses a lens built into the chassis, along with an AI algorithm to deliver a 3D gaming experience without the need for 3D glasses. The best part? You don't need 3D content to experience it, as the algorithm can convert some 2D content into 3D. Only time will tell if Samsung is able to pull it off. I haven't had the time to make it over to the Samsung booth, but I'll be sure to update this story if I'm able to scope it out. This 3D monitor is just a part of a wide variety of gaming monitors Samsung is launching at the Las Vegas tech show. The tech giant also launched a new version of the Samsung M9 Smart Monitor, which will also use AI. This time, the AI is being used to scan the content you're watching and adjust the picture settings to make whatever content you're consuming look as good as it can be. Of course, there are a couple of more traditional gaming monitors, too. Both the Samsung Odyssey G8 and G6 are getting a refresh, both of which are fairly standard 27" gaming monitors. Both of these monitors are way faster than before, with the Odyssey G8 sporting a 240Hz refresh rate with a 4K resolution, and the G6 clocking that all the way up to 500Hz at 1440p. Both of these resolution and refresh rate combos will require a behemoth of a graphics card, likely an RTX 4090 or something even more powerful. Samsung hasn't announced the release dates or prices for any of these gaming monitors. However, with how advanced the Odyssey 3DG90XF seems, you can expect it to be expensive.

The OLED panel delivers true blacks, vibrant colors, and wide viewing angles, making it ideal for immersive movie watching or professional color-critical work. The VESA DisplayHDR™ True Black 400 certification ensures exceptional contrast and deep blacks, further enhancing the visual experience. The built-in 4K camera enables high-quality video conferencing and streaming, while the Easy Setup Stand allows for effortless adjustments to achieve the perfect viewing position. Samsung's Odyssey gaming monitors introduce two industry firsts. The Odyssey OLED G8 is the world's first 27'' 4K OLED gaming monitor, offering a 240Hz refresh rate and unmatched pixel density for immersive gameplay. With a resolution of 3840 x 2160 and a pixel density of 165 PPI, the G8 delivers incredibly sharp and detailed visuals, allowing gamers to spot even the smallest details in fast-paced games. The 240Hz refresh rate ensures smooth and fluid motion, reducing motion blur and tearing for a more responsive gaming experience. Meanwhile, the Odyssey OLED G6 features a groundbreaking 500Hz refresh rate on a QHD screen, delivering ultra-smooth visuals for competitive gamers. This unprecedented refresh rate, combined with a 0.03ms (GTG) response time, virtually eliminates ghosting and motion blur, providing gamers with a significant advantage in fast-paced titles. The QHD resolution strikes a perfect balance between visual fidelity and performance, allowing even mid-range gaming systems to achieve high frame rates. Both models include AMD FreeSync™ Premium Pro and NVIDIA G-Sync™ compatibility, ensuring tear-free gaming experiences across a wide range of graphics cards. These adaptive sync technologies synchronize the monitor's refresh rate with the GPU's output, eliminating screen tearing and stuttering for a smoother and more immersive gaming experience. For an added dimension, the Odyssey 3D (G90XF model) offers glasses-free 3D gaming with AI-powered 2D-to-3D conversion. Utilizing a 27'' screen with a lenticular lens, the Odyssey 3D creates a convincing 3D effect without the need for special glasses. The AI-powered 2D-to-3D conversion technology intelligently analyzes the depth information in games and other content, creating a realistic 3D image that adds an extra layer of immersion to the gaming experience. The ViewFinity S8 features Intelligent Eye Care technology, which includes an eye saver mode and a flicker-free feature to minimize eye fatigue. The built-in KVM switch allows users to control multiple devices with a single keyboard and mouse, streamlining workflow and reducing desk clutter. The 90W USB-C connection provides fast charging and data transfer capabilities, further enhancing productivity. Samsung's 2025 monitors will be available for purchase starting early 2025. Pricing details vary by model, with the Smart Monitor M9 positioned as a premium option for productivity and entertainment, while the Odyssey series caters to gamers with varying budgets. The ViewFinity S8, designed for professionals, offers a competitive price point for its size and features. Samsung brings 3D back with AI-powered, glasses-free Odyssey 3D monitor
The big picture: Samsung's 2025 monitor lineup includes AI-powered features, record-breaking refresh rates, and the resurgence of 3D technology. The new products make it clear that the future of visual technology is not only about higher resolutions but also about creating more immersive, intelligent, and personalized viewing experiences. As the tech world gears up for CES 2025, Samsung Electronics has announced a lineup of monitors with features that range from glasses-free 3D displays to AI-powered smart monitors. The Odyssey 3D G90XF is a 3D monitor that doesn't require special glasses. Instead, this 27-inch, 4K display utilizes a lenticular lens attached to the front panel, which, combined with eye-tracking and view mapping technology, creates a 3D experience. The Odyssey 3D also boasts AI capabilities that can convert standard 2D content into 3D in real-time. It appears to have overcome one of the hurdles that hindered previous 3D display technologies: the lack of available 3D content. In the past, 3D displays were limited by the scarcity of native 3D material, which restricted their appeal and utility. By enabling the conversion of standard 2D content, the Odyssey 3D expands the pool of available 3D-viewable material, potentially making the technology more attractive to consumers. For gaming enthusiasts, Samsung is introducing two new Odyssey G-series monitors that push the boundaries of refresh rates. The Odyssey OLED G6 is touted as the world's first OLED panel with a staggering 500Hz refresh rate, albeit at a slightly lower 1440p resolution. Its sibling, the Odyssey OLED G8, offers a 27-inch 4K OLED panel with a 240Hz refresh rate. Both models boast near-instantaneous response times of 0.03ms, support for AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and Nvidia G-Sync-compatible technologies, and HDR 400 True Black certification. Samsung is also making strides in AI-enhanced displays with the introduction of the Smart Monitor M9. This 32-inch 4K OLED monitor incorporates what the company calls "industry-first" AI features designed to optimize visual experiences across various content types. The M9's AI Picture Optimizer analyzes input signals to determine the type of content being displayed and automatically adjusts settings for optimal viewing. For gamers, it goes a step further by recognizing game genres and fine-tuning picture settings accordingly. Additionally, the 4K AI Upscaling Pro feature uses neural networks to upgrade lower-resolution content to near-4K quality. For professionals and creatives, Samsung has unveiled the ViewFinity S8, a 37-inch 16:9 4K monitor that offers the largest canvas in its class with a screen approximately 34% larger than its predecessor. It boasts 99% sRGB color accuracy and has been certified by TÜV Rheinland for its ergonomic design.

The Odyssey OLED G6 is a 500Hz refresh rate QHD monitor, delivering ultra-smooth gameplay for high-demanding gamers. Samsung's Odyssey 3D monitor offers a glasses-free 3D gaming experience using AI to convert games into immersive content. CES 2025 is merely days away, and people from all over the technosphere will walk its hallowed halls and see everything on the horizon for the upcoming new year. However, tech companies are always keen to give us little tidbits of information so we can know what to expect. Now, Samsung is giving everyone a sneak peek into what it has planned, including an OLED gaming monitor with a stunning 500Hz refresh rate. Related Lenovo Legion 27-inch monitor review: An affordable and curved 240Hz gaming display This monitor is curved, fast, and responsive -- but you'll have to tolerate the 1080p resolution. Posts 1 Samsung's new Odyssey monitors are a gamer's dream As announced on the Samsung Newsroom, the Korean tech giant is prepping to reveal some seriously slick monitors this CES 2025. This includes a range of Odyssey monitors that aim to become a gamer's favorite screen. For the standard monitors, Samsung is releasing two models: the Odyssey OLED G6 and OLED G8. The G8 is what Samsung claims is "the first 27-inch 4K (3,840 x 2,160) OLED gaming monitor in the world," with 165PPI and 240Hz refresh rate. However, the G6 is by no means a slacker: On the other hand, the Odyssey OLED G6 (G60SF model) redefines speed as the first-ever OLED screen with a 500Hz refresh rate on its QHD (2,560 x 1,440) screen. The lightning-fast speed and ultra-smooth gameplay unleashes the potential for gamers who demand the best to gain a winning edge from device performance. Whichever monitor you pick, you'll enjoy a 0.3ms response rate and compatibility with both AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and NVIDIA G-Sync technologies. They also use Samsung's OLED Glare Free screens to keep the visuals clean of annoying reflections. The Odyssey 3D brings a new perspective to your games If you're after something a little more exotic, the Odyssey 3D aims to give a 3D experience without needing special glasses. It uses a lenticular lens and a front stereo camera to achieve this, and it can even use AI to convert games without 3D monitor capabilities into immersive experiences. Time will tell if the 3D effect from the Odyssey 3D is worth gaming on, but there's a good chance that people can give it a spin for themselves when CES 2025 comes around.

CES 2025: Samsung's Monitors Get Heaping Doses of OLED, AI
I'm an Analyst and ISF-certified TV calibrator focused on reviewing computer accessories, laptops, gaming monitors, and video games. I've been writing, playing, and complaining about games for as long as I remember, but it wasn't until recently that I've been able to shout my opinions directly at a larger audience. My work has appeared on iMore, Windows Central, Android Central, and TWICE, and I have a diverse portfolio of editing work under my belt from my time spent at Scholastic and Oxford University Press. I also have a few book-author credits under my belt -- I've contributed to the sci-fi anthology Under New Suns, and I've even written a Peppa Pig book. While Samsung had a few surprises at last year's CES, it's going all out for this year's show with a fleet of new home entertainment devices. Among them are new gaming and productivity monitors like the Samsung Odyssey 3D, a glasses-free 4K monitor, and the AI-infused Smart Monitor M9. Here's what we learned. A Gaming Odyssey The most exciting thing in Samsung's 2025 gaming monitor lineup was actually revealed in 2024. The Samsung Odyssey 3D technically debuted at last year's CES, but the glasses-free 3D display officially launches later this year. A 27-inch 4K monitor with a 165Hz refresh rate, the innovative monitor sets itself apart by utilizing light field display technology. Working in tandem with the lenticular lens on the front panel, the monitor simulates the natural flow of light in a scene to produce lifelike 3D images from 2D ones. To improve the viewing experience (and to ensure you won't get sick to your stomach), a built-in stereo camera enables sophisticated eye tracking, and view mapping technology continuously adjusts the image to enhance depth perception. Next up is the Odyssey OLED G81SF, which Samsung is touting as the world's first 27-inch 4K OLED gaming monitor. A 4K UHD monitor with a 240Hz refresh rate, the monitor offers unparalleled picture quality. That's especially true when gaming, thanks to the HDR10+ certification, the latest premium HDR gaming technology that automatically optimizes HDR graphics for HDR displays. Samsung's OLED Safeguard+ technology prevents the risk of burn-in by reducing the temperature at the core while still ensuring consistent picture quality. And Samsung's Glare-Free technology prevents any unwanted light reflection. Samsung offers a wide range of Odyssey monitors for all kinds of gamers, and that includes the esports crowd. For them, Samsung unveiled another industry first: the Odyssey OLED G60SF, a 27-inch QHD (2,560-by-1,440-pixel) OLED gaming monitor with a whopping 500Hz refresh rate. Refresh rates this high aren't new (see the Alienware 500Hz Gaming Monitor (AW2524HF), but they are rarely coupled with OLED display technology. The new monitor carries both HDR10+ Gaming and VESA DisplayHDR Trueblack 400 certification, as well as a 0.03ms response time. Samsung hopes that with the Odyssey OLED G60SF, hard-core gamers will never have to pick between visuals and performance again. More Monitors for Work and Play Building on the Samsung M80D Smart Monitor's foundation, the Smart Monitor M90SF incorporates both AI and OLED technology into the display. The company claims that the Smart Monitor M9 is the first monitor to integrate on-device AI, which hopes to both enhance entertainment and improve search functionality. One of those improvements is the AI Picture Optimizer, which analyzes input signals to determine the type of content you're viewing -- such as gaming, video, or productivity applications -- and automatically adjusts the display settings for the best visual experience. A similar functionality is present in the MSI MPG 321URX QD-OLED's AI Vision mode, though Samsung promises a more sophisticated process here. For example, when applied to gaming, the AI recognizes the genre of your game and subsequently fine-tunes the picture settings to deliver a uniquely optimized experience for all play styles. Couple that with a refresh rate of 165Hz, and you have an excellent daily driver for both casual and hard-core gamers. The smart monitor also incorporates Samsung's 4K AI Upscaling Pro tech when you use built-in Smart TV apps and the Samsung Gaming Hub. Like the M8 before it, the M9 uses advanced AI processing and neural networks to upgrade lower-resolution content to 4K quality. The final reveal in Samsung's productivity monitor lineup (and the only non-OLED model) is the Samsung ViewFinity S8 37, a 37-inch 4K productivity monitor. With a built-in one-click KVM Switch, the S8 enables productivity by turning the monitor into a single command station for multitasking across various devices with a single mouse and keyboard. A 90W USB-C port means devices can be connected and charged simultaneously. The S8 also features a 99% sRGB color gamut rating for color-accurate visuals and a 350-nit brightness rating, making it a perfect choice for any workspace at any time of day. A New Frontier for Desktop Displays We can't wait to get our hands on Samsung's newest monitor lineup. While we don't have prices or release dates for these monitors just yet, we'll be ready to deliver our honest reviews and reactions when they arrive later this year.

Samsung unveils new OLED display with crazy 500Hz refresh rate ahead of CES 2025
We're rapidly approaching CES 2025, which means new technology announcements will start arriving at a furious pace. Following LG's announcement of a bendable 5K monitor, Samsung announced its own computer displays, including a QHD OLED with a swift 500Hz refresh rate. Samsung revealed several new monitors in a post on its newsroom: the Smart Monitor M9, Odyssey OLED G8, Odyssey OLED G6, Odyssey 3D, and ViewFinity S8. The Odyssey OLED G6 (G60SF) immediately caught our attention. Samsung says it's the first monitor with a 500Hz refresh rate with QHD resolution. Asus and Alienware have 500Hz refresh rate monitors, but they're not OLED. High-end game consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X typically run games at 120Hz, so it's easy to see how 500Hz could be a game-changer for smooth performance. Add in the 2,560 x 1,440 resolution spread 27" screen, and PC games should look incredible. It also has a 0.03ms response time, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and NVIDIA G-Sync support, VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 and OLED Glare Free. Essentially, if there's an advanced monitor technology on the market, the G60SF probably has it. Of course, we'll need to see the monitor in action for ourselves before we can make final judgments, but with CES 2025 right around the corner, we'll get to do just that. Samsung announced four other monitors in the lead-up to CES 2025, including two more gaming monitors and some everyday displays. Starting with the gaming side, Samsung took the wraps off the Odyssey OLED G8 (G81SF). The company says it is the world's first 27" 4K (3,840 x 2,160) OLED gaming monitor. It offers a 165 PPI pixel density, which should create some sharp images. And while it may not provide the blinding 500Hz refresh rate of the G6, it's no slouch at 240Hz. The G8 also has all the other features of the G6 -- 0.03ms response time, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and NVIDIA G-Sync support, VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 and OLED Glare Free. Samsung also revealed the 27" Odyssey 3D (G90XF). With a lenticular lens attached to the front of the panel and a front stereo camera, the monitor can display customizable 3D images without special glasses. It also uses AI to analyze and convert 2D video into 3D, so everything you watch on this high-end monitor will come out of the screen at you. The Smart Monitor M9 (M90SF) offers industry-first AI features that enhance content through clever picture adaptation and search functions. Samsung said it's the first monitor to integrate on-device AI. While not a gaming monitor, AI can recognize the game genre and tweak the settings accordingly. It's a large monitor with a 32" 4K OLED screen. Finally, Samsung showed off the ViewFinity S8 (S80UD), a 16:9 monitor with a 37" screen. It features a 4K resolution, so images should still look sharp even with the massive screen. As is often the case in these pre-CES announcements, Samsung didn't reveal a price or final release date for any of these monitors. Hopefully, the company will tell us more at CES 2025, but we don't expect any of these devices to be budget-friendly, as they all have new and advanced technology that's sure to drive up the price.

Samsung Debuts Odyssey OLED G6 & G8 Gaming Monitors, Up To 4K Resolution, 500 Hz Refresh Rate
Samsung has unveiled the Odyssey OLED G6 & G8, its first 500-Hz OLED gaming monitor as well as its first 27-inch 4K OLED gaming monitor. Both will be unveiled at CES along with more products. Samsung's Monitor M9, Odyssey OLED G6, OLED G8, & ViewFinity S8 are Cutting-Edge Displays Ready for Gamers and Content Creators Just like ASUS and MSI, who have prepared their first 4K QD-OLED and 500Hz OLED gaming monitors to show off at CES, Samsung is also ready with its flagship products. The company has announced five new display products that are scheduled to be released at CES. The first one is the Smart Monitor M9 (Model: M90SF), one of the industry's first AI monitors, which integrates on-device AI for features like AI Picture Optimizer and 4K AI Upscaling Pro to enhance the visual experience drastically. It is suitable for gaming, watching movies, and content creation, and brings automatic AI adjustments for the best image quality. As per the company, the monitor can recognize the genre of the game being played and with that information, it can fine-tune the visual quality for better immersion. Then there are two high-end gaming monitors, both featuring OLED panels. The first one is the Odyssey OLED G8 (Model: G81SF), featuring 4K resolution and up to 240 Hz refresh rate. This is the company's first OLED 4K 240 Hz monitor, which seeks to compete with ASUS and MSI's QD-OLED 4K 240Hz panels. The second one is the Odyssey OLED G6 (Model: G60SF), which brings QHD (2560x1440p) resolution on an OLED panel and up to 500 Hz refresh rate for extremely fluid gameplay. Both deliver 0.03ms of GtG response time and bring AMD FreeSync Premium Pro for tear-free gaming. With DisplayHDR True Black 400 support, the monitors can further enhance the visual quality and bring better brightness than regular OLED panels. The fifth one is the Odyssey 3D (Model: G90XF), which is a 27-inch gaming monitor, bringing a customizable 3D experience for those who want to experience it without 3D glasses. This monitor uses AI to convert 2D content into 3D by adding depth. The fifth one is the ViewFinity S8 (Model: S80UD), boasting a large 37-inch display for immersion and easier content creation. This is about 34% larger screen size than the predecessor and the resolution is 4K for detailed visuals. With 99% sRGB color space coverage, the S8 can deliver great color reproduction and has decent color accuracy as well. ViewFinity S8 brings built-in KVM to increase productivity, an easy-to-setup stand, and a 90W USB-C connection with power delivery for charging laptops. Samsung has not revealed any pricing and availability info, but usually, companies launch their products a few weeks after revealing them. So, all these displays may end up on the shelves before the end of this month.

Samsung's 500Hz Odyssey G6 OLED joins stacked 2025 gaming monitor lineup
Samsung's new Odyssey G6 OLED is purportedly the world's first 500Hz OLED monitor Samsung has announced several new monitors ahead of CES 2025, featuring gaming and entertainment-focused variants. The highlights of Samsung's latest lineup are two new Odyssey G-series gaming monitors, purportedly featuring the world's first OLED panel with a 500Hz refresh rate. The Odyssey G6 and G8 are Samsung's new high-performance gaming monitors, with the former featuring a blisteringly fast 500Hz refresh rate. The G8 variant, the G81SF, is a 27" OLED monitor equipped with a 4k panel offering a 240 Hz refresh rate. At 27 inches, the panel boasts a pixel density of 165 PPI. The G6 has a resolution reduction over its 4k counterpart, featuring a 1440p resolution. But, with that lower resolution comes more than a 2x refresh rate improvement. It's worth mentioning that 500 Hz monitors, such as the AW2524HF, are already on the market. However, Samsung's G6 is purportedly the world's first to use an OLED panel. Both monitors offer near instantaneous response times of 0.03ms thanks to OLED technology, and they feature AMD and Nvidia's variants of adaptive refresh rate tech (G-Sync Compatible and FreeSync Premium Pro). HDR 400 True Black is also supported, giving these new G6 and G8 models HDR capabilities in games and video content that supports HDR. At CES, Samsung will also showcase a 3D-focused display, the Odyssey 3D G90XF. As the name suggests, this panel is focused on 3D gaming/entertainment but does not require glasses. The Odyssey 3D uses a new lenticular lens attached to the front panel to achieve the 3D look without 3D glasses. Samsung also equipped this particular Odyssey model with AI processing to convert 2D videos into 3D. Hopping on the AI train, Samsung is introducing a new AI-focused monitor, the Smart Monitor M9, featuring "industry-first" AI features that purportedly enhance entertainment and interactivity through smart AI search functions and adaptation. It is a 32" 4K OLED monitor with VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 support, just like its Odyssey counterparts. The monitor features two AI functions: AI Picture Optimizer and AI Upscaling Pro. AI Picture Optimizer purportedly analyses input signals and optimizes the display's settings to optimize the visual experience for whatever content is being displayed. This includes games, productivity applications, and videos. AI Upscaling Pro upscales lower-resolution content to 4K. Essentially, this feature is similar to Nvidia DLSS but functions off the monitor itself and works with any content that is being displayed. Samsung uses a neural network to upgrade lower-resolution content to 4k quality. Rounding out the lineup is the ViewFinity S8 S80UD, which is a productivity-optimized monitor featuring an unorthodox (but large) 37" screen. The panel type was not announced, but it probably uses an IPS panel due to the lack of any mention of OLED technology. It features a 4K 16:9 panel with 99% sRGB color accuracy. A built-in KVM switch has also been integrated into the display, enabling users to operate several systems through the monitor without using different peripherals. There's also a 90W USB Type-C connector for charging supported devices.

Samsung just unveiled a sleek new OLED smart monitor (and it's not just for gamers)
The Smart Monitor M9 is the company's first OLED smart monitor intended for a diverse audience, with a 165Hz refresh rate and ultra-thin bezels. Samsung today announced its first OLED monitor, which is not explicitly intended for gamers, ahead of CES 2025. Designed more to be a flexible entertainment hub, the Smart Monitor M90SF features an OLED display and doesn't require a connection to a laptop or desktop computer. Instead, it's a standalone device, sort of like a smart TV, but with a selection of its own content. Also: CES 2025: What is it, what to expect, and how to tune in The model features Samsung's suite of apps, such as Samsung TV Plus, Samsung Game Hub, and, of course, the usual streaming apps like Netflix and Hulu. Samsung's lineup of Odyssey OLED monitors for the gaming audience includes some impressive devices that will be showcased at CES, but the M90SF is intended more for mainstream consumers, blurring the lines between TVs and monitors and becoming a little bit of both. In terms of tech specs, the Smart Monitor M90SF will come with a 4K resolution display and a 165Hz refresh rate, which is a jump up from previous models we saw released last year running at 60Hz. So although it's not marketed specifically as a gaming product, it would likely perform quite well as one, anyway. The increased refresh rate is one thing that makes this device a bit more "pro" than previous smart monitors. It could also be attractive to creators looking for a flexible display that can connect to a laptop for photo editing tasks and then act as a TV. Also: I tested Samsung's flagship laptop and it gave my MacBook Pro a run for its money There's no shortage of AI on board, either. Samsung's press release mentions that the monitor automatically optimizes image quality based on the content, something that applies to entertainment and gaming alike. It also features 4K upscaling, which is intended to "upgrade" lower-quality content to 4K using AI, but so far it appears this feature is relegated solely to content from Samsung's built-in apps only. The sole photo of the new monitor that Samsung has released so far shows a sleek display with 0.35-inch thick bezels and a flat stand that resembles an iMac. For pricing, we don't have the details yet, but since this monitor features an OLED display and upgraded refresh rate (not to mention the ultra-thin bezels and sleek design), we're definitely going to assume it's on the higher end in comparison to Samsung's existing smart monitor lineup. Also: One of the best laptops for creative professionals I've tested isn't a MacBook Pro or Asus Speaking of its gaming monitor lineup, Samsung also announced three new Odyssey models, including the Odyssey 3D which will be showcased at CES 2025 and features a lenticular lens on the front of the panel to simulate 3D visuals without the need for any kind of 3D glasses.

Futuristic gaming monitors debuting at CES 2025 Credit: Getty images / Vera Vita If you're interested in the latest gaming, monitors, or gaming monitors, you probably have your eyes peeled for the releases we'll see at CES, the nations biggest spectacle of gadgets. Every year we get a whole host of sleek, sometimes translucent, sometimes curved, always new gaming monitors in January. This year, we're on the lookout for a few futuristic gaming monitors from LG and Samsung -- and more previews are sure to drop soon. LG Electronics is set to present its new UltraGear GX9 series at CES 2025, with a lineup that includes two 45-inch 21:9 gaming monitors, the 45GX990A and 45GX950A, boasting ultra-high 5K2K resolution for immersive gameplay. With these monitors, we should expect enhanced screen real estate and better compatibility -- plus customizable options through Dual-Mode, allowing users to adjust aspect ratios and picture sizes. And it's curved, which, LG says, can reduce eye strain and make gaming more comfortable. The new UltraGear OLED Bendable Gaming Monitor is the first of its kind to feature a bendable 5K2K-resolution OLED display. LG says you can transition it from a flat screen to a 900R curvature in seconds. YS Lee, the VP and head of LG Media Entertainment's IT Business Unit, said in a press release ahead of CES 2025 that "the GX9 lineup pushes the boundaries to deliver maximum value and enjoyment for our customers." Samsung announced its new Odyssey OLED G81SF and Odyssey OLED G60SF, both of which are 27-inch 4K monitors. The Odyssey OLED G81SF has a maximum refresh rate of 240Hz, an impressive response time of 0.03ms, and a display free of glare. According to Samsung, "The Odyssey OLED G8 (G81SF model) is the first 27" 4K (3,840 x 2,160) OLED gaming monitor in the world." In comparison, the Odyssey OLED G60SF is the "first-ever OLED screen with a 500Hz refresh rate," Samsung says. The company will also be showcasing the Odyssey 3D G90XF gaming monitor at CES, a customizable 3D experience that doesn't require the user to wear 3D glasses. And while the Smart Monitor M90SF isn't specifically made for gaming, it does feature some industry-first on-device AI features that "analyzes input signals to determine the type of content being viewed... and automatically adjust the display settings for the best visual experience." For gamers, it'll be able to fine-turn the picture settings and make the experience more immersive -- but it's also being billed as a great video and productivity tool.

Samsung's new Smart Monitor M9 finally takes OLED beyond gaming
CES 2025 Read and watch our complete CES coverage here Updated less than 3 minutes ago Ahead of CES 2025, Samsung has announced its first OLED monitor not explicitly targeted at PC gamers. The Smart Monitor M90SF has an OLED -- a first for these devices -- bringing the love from the Odyssey gaming line more toward the mainstream demographic. It's a big deal for those hoping to engage in HDR content, both in terms of creating it and consuming it. It makes sense, too, as the Smart Monitor M9 is built to be an entertainment hub. Like previous models, such as the Smart Monitor M80B, the M9 doesn't require being connected to a PC to run content on it -- like a little television right on your desk. It has Samsung TV Plus, Samsung Game Hub, and pretty much every streaming app you could want -- along with a remote for convenient controls. Recommended Videos We don't have a full spec sheet yet, but we do know that the Smart Monitor M9 has a 4K resolution and a refresh rate of 165Hz. That's a bump from the 60Hz models we've seen so far, and allows the monitor to double as a proper gaming monitor when you need it too. While we won't know if it ranks among the best monitors you can buy, one thing is for sure: it's truly meant to do it all. According to the one photo provided by Samsung, the Smart Monitor M9 has a new look, too, as it sports rounded corners and thinner side bezels. Thanks to the fact that it's an OLED monitor, the frame of the screen is now just 9.9mm thick, or 0.35 inches. That's a hair thicker than an iPhone 16, for reference. The Smart Monitor M9 also includes some new on-device AI features, including AI that optimizes picture quality based on the type of content and analyzes "input signals to determine the type of content being viewed," according to Samsung's press release. Meanwhile, AI is also being used to do a similar thing for games, recognizing the genre and "fine-tuning picture settings to deliver an optimal and immersive experience for every playstyle." Lastly, the Smart Monitor M9 has a "Pro" version of its AI 4K Upscaling feature, which can "upgrade lower-resolution content up to 4K quality," so long as its coming from the built-in Smart TV apps or Samsung Gaming Hub. I'm not sure what makes this version of its upscaling more advanced, but Samsung says the AI analyzes "input signals and existing image data" to deliver crisper visuals "with enhanced detail, regardless of the original resolution." Samsung has not announced pricing or availability details for the new Smart Monitor M9, but it's worth mentioning that it'll likely come in above the previous models. Samsung has entire line of Smart Monitors, ranging from 27-inch 1080p models up to 32-inch 4K options (and even a 43-inch model), though the OLED M9 definitely positions itself at the top of the stack.
