Nagpur: Renowned spiritual leader Sadguru Sri M emphasised the importance of maintaining human consciousness in an age of Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the AI Manthan conference, organised by the Vishwa Manthan Research Foundation at IIM Nagpur on Saturday. While AI is advancing rapidly, it cannot replace the human soul and heart as love, compassion, and empathy cannot be created artificially, he said. The spiritual leader said the need is to be alert in this era of AI as the information presented may not always be true or reliable. He encouraged individuals to free their minds from the constraints of technology and use their inherent wisdom and intuition to test the information. He also emphasised the importance of ignoring ego and focusing on the soul, which is intrinsic essence of human beings. The AI Manthan conclave brought together experts from various fields to explore the intersection of AI and human consciousness. Sri M encouraged the use of AI to seek truth, but warned against indulging in emotions and ego. He emphasised that understanding consciousness requires a settled mind, and AI exploration goes beyond the mind, into the realm of consciousness. He said these tools must be used for the good of the world, moral element and consciousness. "Use AI to look for truth, don't indulge in emotions, and don't let ego take over. Understanding of consciousness happens when the mind settles down. So AI is exploration into minds & beyond," he said. Some notable agendas discussed in the conclave included AI in public sector governance, fostering innovation in AI, building a skilled AI workforce, and, most importantly, the future of AI research in India by a range of speakers. On the first day of the two-day conclave, IIM-N director Bhimaraya Metri articulated a visionary roadmap for India's ascent in the AI era. He emphasised the pivotal role of data and patterns, declaring, "Data and pattern are paramount. India is the capital of data." Highlighting the widespread adoption of AI tools, he noted, "Students across the board are utilising ChatGPT. AI will soon transform the job market, and we must advance our skills."
