Spotify Brings AI-Powered Playlist Generation to Podcasts
Macy has been working for CNET for coming on 2 years. Prior to CNET, Macy received a North Carolina College Media Association award in sports writing. I listen to podcasts basically all day, every day. I never miss an episode of Morbid, loving the banter between hosts Alaina and Ash. So True with Caleb Hearon is guaranteed to make me laugh out loud at least five times an episode. But being permanently caught up presents a problem. I can't help but get the blues when there isn't a new episode of my favorite show. If you're in a similar situation, Spotify's new update to Prompted Playlists can help get you out of a rut by using AI to find and curate a lineup of podcast episodes based on what you tell the app you want to hear. Starting today, Spotify Premium subscribers in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Sweden can use the in-app AI to find podcasts tailored to their taste based on a single prompt. For instance, you can type something like "build me a playlist with more shows like Maintenance Phase" to receive podcast recommendations that center on wellness myths and health trends. From there, Spotify's AI will build a playlist based on your listening preferences. To get started, open the Spotify app, tap Create listed at the bottom right corner of the app, then select Prompted Playlists. From there, you can type out what you'd like to see in your playlists in as much or as little detail as you want. This feature is an expansion of Prompted Playlists for music, which began rolling out in beta to Premium subscribers earlier this year. This new update is just the latest in a row of AI-powered features coming to the streaming platform. At SXSW in mid-March, Spotify Co-CEO Gustav Söderström announced the app's new feature that lets you use AI to shape your own Taste Profile, giving you the power to personalize what the app recommends for you. Spotify also announced the launch of its SongDNA feature in late March, letting you see every person involved in making a song from start to finish.

Spotify's Prompted Playlists can help you find new podcasts to listen to
On Tuesday, Spotify expanded its Prompted Playlists feature to include podcasts, an update that could make it easier for Premium users to find new shows to listen to. Prompted Playlists were originally launched as a beta feature in December, but previously only worked for music. You can use the feature to effectively generate customized Discover Weekly playlists using text prompts to "steer the algorithm" toward specific genres or themes. Tuesday's update allows you to do the same thing with playlists of podcast episodes. The feature is still in beta, though, and is currently only available in English for Premium users in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Sweden. When I tried out the updated feature, Spotify's AI took several minutes to generate my podcast playlist (including a step it described as "verifying humor"), but I was surprisingly satisfied with the results. I asked for a playlist of Dungeons & Dragons actual play shows, including a mix of popular series and hidden gems. My first prompt highlighted an issue that's worth noting if you're using this feature for podcasts -- it will pull random episodes of shows, which could be an issue if a show is designed for chronological listening. This was pretty easy to fix, though. After generating a playlist, you can go back in and edit your prompt to update the playlist. I added a line specifying that the playlist should only include the first episodes of campaigns or shows. The new sampling the AI gave me was more well-rounded than I expected, including a couple episodes of Dimension 20 and Critical Role along with some smaller shows I either hadn't heard of before or haven't had a chance to listen to yet, like Tales from the Stinky Dragon and Join the Party. Each episode in the playlist also included a brief AI-generated description of how the episode fits into my prompt. While I'm usually skeptical of AI-generated summaries like this, the summaries for shows I have watched were accurate, like describing Dimension 20: Fantasy High as "funny with real stakes." It's vague, but at least not misleading. You can add to and manually edit Prompted Playlists after generating them, or keep updating them if you're not a fan of the podcast episodes the AI pulls for you. While I still don't plan on using this feature for music, it could be useful for some listeners when it comes to podcasts, specifically compiling a "first episodes" sample pack like this. You can also set the playlist to refresh regularly so you can get new podcast samplers daily or weekly. To try out the feature, go into the Spotify app and select "Create" then choose "Prompted Playlist" from the menu. In the prompt text box, describe what kind of podcast episodes you want the playlist to include and hit "Generate playlist." The first couple of times I tried it, I got an error saying Prompted Playlists don't support podcasts yet. The issue was resolved after I updated the app.

Spotify's AI Playlists Can Now Help You Discover Podcasts Using Prompts
Just describe the kind of podcasts you want to listen to, and Spotify will suggest shows. Looking for new podcasts? An update to Spotify's Prompted Playlists feature might help. Prompted Playlists began rolling out to listeners in the US and Canada earlier this year. At launch, the AI-powered feature allowed you to find music using simple prompts, meaning you didn't need to recall the artist, album, or name of a song. Just describe what you feel like listening to, and the AI generates a playlist based on your prompt and unique listening history. Starting today, Spotify is making the same capability available for podcast discovery as well. Premium subscribers can get started by tapping Create > Prompted Playlists. Sample prompts shared by Spotify include "Create a podcast playlist with the biggest entertainment news from the past few days. Include all things music, film, fashion, and major cultural moments," and "Make a playlist of true crime investigations you think I'd be interested in. Add highly rated series with lots of twists and turns." Prompts can be as detailed as you'd like. If you are not impressed by what the prompt creates, you can edit it or provide a new one. Each podcast or episode recommended by the tool will provide a reason for why it was suggested to you. While providing the prompt, you can also decide whether your AI playlist should update daily or weekly. If you're low on inspiration, you can also check out some Spotify-curated Prompted Playlists on your homepage. "Podcast fans are always looking for their next great listen...Prompted Playlist makes discovery feel effortless and personal," says Lizzy Hale, Spotify's podcast editorial head. For now, Spotify's Prompted Playlists for podcasts is limited to Premium users in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Sweden. The feature is still in beta and comes with usage limits; Spotify didn't specify what those are, but said they might "change as we test and learn from listener feedback." YouTube Music has a similar AI playlist feature.

Spotify's Prompted Playlist feature now works for podcasts
Spotify's Prompted Playlist tool now works for podcasts, after earlier this year. As the name suggests, this is an AI thing. It lets users use natural language, or prompts, to describe what they're looking for in a playlist and the algorithm does the rest. The platform says the tool is a good match for podcasts, as listeners can use it to discover a new favorite show or "dive deeper into a topic or piece of culture." Spotify adds that the algorithm generates playlists based on both the prompt and a person's listening history, along with "what's happening in the world today." Spotify gives some examples of the kinds of prompts that could be used to generate podcast playlists, which include a user asking the bot to build a playlist "all about science and innovation" and another "with the biggest entertainment news from the past few days." It'll be interesting to see if the algorithm prioritizes podcasts from its of in-house creators over third party releases. Spotify says the tool "unlocks powerful new opportunities" for creators. This is because it can recommend older episodes from a back catalog, thus giving them a little boost. The feature is rolling out now in a beta form to Premium users in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, New Zealand and Sweden. It remains to be seen when Spotify will open up the tool to other languages.

From true crime to tech: Spotify's Prompted Playlist can now curate your next podcast binge
Spotify rolled out the Prompted Playlist feature at the start of this year. This feature lets users generate custom playlists with AI from their text input, making it dead simple to create a playlist based on their mood and needs. Today, Spotify is expanding Prompted Playlist to cover podcasts, too. Much like with music, users can use Prompted Playlist to describe an idea, mood, or subject in natural language. Spotify will then turn that text prompt into a podcast playlist, keeping in mind your unique listening history and what's happening in culture at the moment, as reflected in trends and charts. The company claims that the feature shapes how Spotify discovers podcasts for you. Episodes and chapters in the playlist will also include a short note explaining why they landed in your mix.

Spotify's latest feature is a massive upgrade for podcast-listeners
I've been covering Android and other mobile technology for close to ten years now, with a specific interest in phone accessories, e-readers, and what makes each individual phone different from another. I delight in looking at the phone market from as many angles as possible, and while my opinions may be odd, at times, they're always from the heart as much as the head. I have a background in the mobile accessories world, which explains my odd enthusiasm for cases and things that clip onto smartphones. I worked for Digital Trends from 2017 to 2025. Podcasts can be a great way to introduce yourself to a new hobby, immerse yourself in a current obsession, or just find out more about something you want to know more about. But often, you don't know enough to know the good podcasts to listen to, so you spend far too long looking, instead of listening. If that sounds familiar, then Spotify is here to save the day. Spotify's Prompted Playlist feature now works with podcasts, so it can create you a playlist of podcasts based off a text prompt (via Android Authority). Prompted Playlist can create a list of pods that refreshes every day Prompted Playlist was launched at the start of this year, and it works on a simple principle: give Spotify a text prompt, and it will use AI to create a playlist based around that prompt. Now, you can use that same feature to create yourself a playlist of podcasts, thanks to Spotify's latest update. This update is rolling out to Premium users in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Sweden, and it's easy to try it out. Just open your Spotify app, tap the Create button, Prompted Playlist, and then type your prompt. Spotify has ventured a few ideas for what you might want to use it for, and some of the more interesting are using it to build a true crime playlist, or catch up on the latest tech or pop culture news. But the really cool feature here is the option to refresh the playlist every day or week, depending on your personal preference. So you can create your own catch-up podcast playlist that can keep you abreast of the latest on your way to work, while walking the dog, or washing the dishes. It's a powerful and extremely handy creation that Spotify has just handed us, but as ever, it comes with some caveats. Because this is powered by AI, it would be silly not to remind people that AI can sometimes be exceptionally stupid and throw in something completely inappropriate for the playlist in question. So yeah, don't rely on it too much, and don't use it for anyone whose content would require moderation. While using it to create a kid's bedtime story playlist sounds cute, it would be very in-line with what we know AI is capable of for it to throw in some true crime or horror stories by mistake.

Spotify's AI-powered playlists can now help you find podcasts too
Spotify is once again expanding its AI-powered "Prompted Playlists" to bring podcasts into the mix. "Prompted Playlists" in Spotify angle themselves as a way to control the algorithm that delivers music recommendations, with users being able to prompt the AI to steer the direction of a playlist. It launched in a limited release in December 2025 before expanding to the US and select other regions in January. Now, it's expanding to more types of media. Spotify has announced that Prompted Playlists can now incorporate podcasts when generating a playlist based on your prompt. Starting today, Prompted Playlist is expanding beyond music to now include podcasts. Launched earliery this year in beta, this feature lets you steer the algorithm by creating playlists based on your listening history and real-time signals on Spotify, including trends and charts, so the playlist reflects both your tastes and what's happening in the world around you. This can include new shows, as well as just finding specific episodes that match the topic you're looking into through the podcast. You can have these podcast playlists refreshed on up to a daily basis, just like the song-based playlists. Spotify also provides a few examples of how you might use this: To explore big ideas in science and innovation To catch up on the latest pop culture To get lost in a true crime mystery This is rolling out now to Premium users in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Sweden as a part of the ongoing beta release. You can subscribe to 9to5Google's podcasts on Spotify including Pixelated and The Sideload.

Spotify's best AI feature connects you with podcasts that are actually worth your time
Outside of the office, Josh can be found digging into the latest video games, fantasy books, or tinkering with the newest features in Windows. I use Spotify almost every day, whether I'm commuting somewhere, working on an article, or just jamming out to my favorite new songs. One of my favorite things to do on Spotify is find new songs to share with friends. That used to be a lot more difficult, before the company added Prompted Playlists, a new tool that helps you find music based on what you tell AI you're in the mood for. And now, it looks like Spotify is upgrading this great feature with even more capabilities by letting you search for new podcasts, too. Related You're using Spotify wrong if you haven't tried this feature yet Prompt-based AI "vibe listening" is here Posts 1 By Brandon Miniman Prompting for new content has never been easier Ask and you shall receive Spotify has never been a stranger to throwing new music at you. In fact, the service's listening algorithm is designed exactly for that. So are the other features that it has come out with over the years, like its fantastic AI DJ, Smart Shuffle option, and the various types of playlists you have like Discover Weekly, and Release Radar. But Prompted Playlists are completely different, because they put you directly in charge of what kind of music you ask for. It's a feature that has quickly become a favorite of mine, especially for being able to find new music just to fit a specific mood that I'm in -- like if I want energetic tunes to help me focus while I work on something or relaxing vibes while I chill out on the weekend at the pool. While many of us probably use Spotify for music listening, the platform is also ripe with podcasts that are worth checking out. And according to a Spotify blog post about the latest update for Prompted Playlists, you will finally be able to add podcasts into the mix, which should hopefully make it even easier to find specific new podcasts to fit your current environment and needs. Spotify claims that more than 34 million podcasts are discovered for the first time each week, and the company has been releasing new features to help people find the best podcasts on the platform. Prompted Playlists latest update feels like a natural addition to this search functionality, as you only need to type in something like "create a podcast playlist featuring the biggest entertainment reveals and news from the past few days, including film, TV, music, and major pop culture news" to get started. The system will then search for new podcasts that align with your prompt, and you can always edit the prompt later if you want to get even more specific Prompted Playlists are still only rolling out in certain areas Some people will have to wait to try it Unfortunately, like many beta features that hit Spotify, Prompted Playlists are still only available in certain areas, including the U.S., Canada, Ireland, the U.K, New Zealand, Sweden, and Australia. One of the standout capabilities is the ability to refine and edit prompts after initial generation. Early testing revealed that the algorithm pulls random podcast episodes from shows, which could be problematic for series designed for chronological listening. However, users can easily update their prompts to specify preferences like "only include first episodes of campaigns or shows," allowing them to curate your next podcast binge more effectively
