Telangana Launches TGDeX -- India's First State‑Led AI Public Infrastructure | AIM
TGDeX fosters cross‑domain AI collaboration among the state, startups, industry and research. Telangana government, in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), is launching the Telangana Data Exchange (TGDeX) platform, the first state-led digital public infrastructure for artificial intelligence (AI) on July 2. The Emerging Technologies Wing (ETW) of Telangana's IT department has announced that the TGDeX was developed by the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, with strategic and technical guidance from JICA's DXLab. The platform will enable AI developers to securely access high‑quality data and collaborative tools, fostering cross‑domain AI innovation. TGDeX will empower government data officers to share information across ministries and departments securely. It's also open to private enterprises and NGOs that utilise AI for business or social impact in fields like education, healthcare, climate, and sustainability. Moreover, academic institutions, researchers, and think tanks can access high-quality datasets on the platform to fuel their research, analysis, and AI model development. While the platform serves multiple stakeholders, its primary focus is on AI start-ups and entrepreneurs at various stages of their AI journey. Startups will be able to access domain‑specific datasets crucial for designing and scaling AI solutions. Through TGDeX, they'll also benefit from value‑added services provided by incubator and accelerator partners like Telangana AI Mission (T‑AIM) and T‑Hub, creating a dynamic ecosystem that supports AI innovation. The platform is a central element of the state's AI strategy and roadmap. IT and industries minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu first introduced this plan during the Global AI Summit held in September 2024. The state government's technology ecosystem, including T‑AIM, T‑Hub, MATH (the AI/ML centre of excellence at T‑Hub), IIT Hyderabad and IIIT Hyderabad, will work together to support TGDeX in its objective to host over 2,000 AI‑ready datasets in the next five years.

Telangana Govt To Launch Digital Public Infra For AI
Developed by IISc Bengaluru, the platform will also offer access to datasets and collaborative tools for AI developers The Telangana government, in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), will reportedly launch India's first state-led digital public infrastructure (DPI) for artificial intelligence. As per news agency PTI, the new platform will look to develop cross-domain AI solutions via collaboration between the state, industry, research institutions and startups. Under the partnership, JICA's DXLab is reportedly providing strategic and technical guidance for the project. Called Telangana Data Exchange (TGDeX), the platform is slated to go live on July 2. Developed by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru, the platform will also offer access to datasets and collaborative tools for AI developers. "I invite all ecosystem stakeholders to join us in realising this vision," Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy reportedly said. The report added that TGDeX will leverage the state government's repository of public datasets and the local AI ecosystem to build a thriving AI ecosystem in the state. Under the project, the Telangana AI Mission, incubator T-Hub, MATH (AI Centre of Excellence at T-Hub), IIT Hyderabad, and the Research and Innovation Circle of Hyderabad (RICH) will back TGDeX's target of building 2,000 AI-ready datasets within the next five years. Meanwhile, neighbouring Andhra Pradesh's chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu also announced that the state government's ambitious Amaravati Quantum Valley will be operationalised by January 2026. The project, which as per Naidu will generate 1 Lakhs jobs, will be kicked off with 100 real-time use cases in governance, health, and industry. Nevertheless, the developments come at a time when the Centre has stepped up efforts to spur the adoption of AI across domains. Last year, the Union government launched the IndiaAI Mission, with an initial outlay of INR 10,372 Cr over the next five years. The project aims to build a robust AI ecosystem, comprising over 10,000 GPUs, in collaboration with academia and startups. Under this, the Centre recently selected ten tech giants, including Jio Platforms, Tata Communications, among others, to supply and manage AI compute infrastructure. The government earlier this year also floated a project to build an indigenous AI foundational model. Last month, the Centre said that it has received 506 proposals to build the ambitious project. Alongside, four startups - SarvamAI, Soket AI, Gnani.ai & Gan.ai - have been selected to build a homegrown large language model (LLM). In June, the Union government also said that four out of the eight responsible artificial intelligence solutions to be built under the IndiaAI Mission's 'safe and trusted AI pillar' will go live on the mission's AIKosha portal between September and December.

Telangana Launches TGDeX: First State-Led AI Data Exchange
The Telangana Government, in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), is going to launch the Telangana Data Exchange (TGDeX) - which is essentially an artificial intelligence (AI)-focused digital public infrastructure (DPI) - on July 2, according to a Hindu report. TGDeX - which is India's first-ever state-led DPI for AI - aims to develop cross-domain AI solutions between the State, research institutions, industry, and startups. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru has developed this data exchange, with JICA providing strategic and technical guidance to the project. The platform strives to provide AI developers access to collaborative tools and high-quality data, the Emerging Technologies Wing of the State's IT Department said about the project. For this, this data exchange will make use of Telangana's AI ecosystem that comprises government departments, academia, private entities, and open-source or licensed data providers. Furthermore, the AI-enabled platform will use the Open Data Telangana platform - the central repository of all of the Telangana Government's datasets that should be in the public domain. The platform's website claims that this project aims to inspire innovations that will help tackle "real-world challenges by providing access to rich datasets, AI models, use cases, Sandbox IDE and development tools" to "individuals or teams who browse, query, and download assets like data banks, AI models, and potential applications for analysis or building new AI solutions". "The platform embodies Telangana's commitment to digital leadership, inclusive growth and technology-driven governance," the website further says. The website claims that TGDeX will play a pivotal role in: Notably, the data exchange is open for both individuals and organisations. However, only publishers associated with a verified organisation can upload AI models or data banks. And even though users can access many resources for free, accessing restricted services or data banks might require some additional approvals. Elsewhere, TGDeX encourages users to share their feedback about the data exchange. Interestingly, the data exchange website says that it adheres to core values such as transparency, equity and inclusion, trust and accountability, among others. It further adds that it aims to ensure that "exchanges are ethical, purposeful, and inclusive for all stakeholders". How much of what is mentioned above actually happens remains to be seen from tomorrow.
